Banu Indian Restaurant

Me and my friends went to Banu Restaurant yesterday. Due to some of the reviews saying the food was blant, we were initially hesitant to try this place - but as it was one of the few indian restaurants located conveniantally to where we happened to be yesterday we decided to give it a go anyway. And we were glad we did! The food tasted brilliant!! So we were a bit baffled by the poor reviews on the taste of the food. Maybe the restaurant had taken previous feedback on board and improved their food. But either way, One of my friends ordered meat and the rest of us mainly ordered veg or sea food and all of us enjoyed our food thoroughly. The person serving us was very friendly, polite, patient and made an effort to understand what we like and don't like and made recommendations accordingly (which is what we went by. He did check in often enough and request made was catered to promptly (and without additional charge) Me and my friends agreed its rare to get this kind of customer service nowadays in most restaurants. The place looked a little run down on the outside, but the inside was fine. However the manager did tell us they're in the process of renovating and soon they'll also have a grill place there. So as we definitely will be going back there for food again, we look forward to seeing the new grill place at some point too. Overall the 5 stars are for the finger licking food and the amazing customer service! Highly recommended.

What happened? Was my mum ordered food from here at 2 o’clock this morning and she usually pays by card but the thing is this time she only had cash on her so she asked to pay by cash and when the delivery driver came she had the money in hand ready to pay but she only had a £20 note when this order was £15 .70 So she asked for the change, and the Delivery man said he didn’t have any and obviously it is very stupid not to have change when you’re delivering an order and the person who ordered it is paying by cash so she overpaid anyways and then has called the restaurant about five minutes Ago and she explained everything that happened and she just asked for the change back that is all and the person who answered the phone was being extremely rude, with a bunch of attitude and yes, I was listening And then, as she finished explaining the person on the phone hung up and we just thought that was very rude Considering the inconvenience that happened when she had gotten her order I must say the food is very good, but the service is trash, childish, and I recommend to not order from this place

Lovely little restaurant food was lovely just the way we like. Everything was nice and warm we were given a hot plate for our currys to keep the food warm while we eat. Staff were very friendly and courteous. Will reccomend to friends and family.

This is absolutely pathetic. What you served as "egg fried rice" is nothing more than plain, bland rice with a sad-looking egg thrown on top — that's it. No seasoning, no flavor, no onion, no garlic, no ginger, not even a hint of salt. It’s a complete joke to call this "fried rice." I've had better from a microwave packet. Honestly, it feels like no effort or basic cooking skills were involved at all. Total disappointment and a complete waste of money.

First time I visited this restaurant and I really enjoyed the food. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Definitely recommend and would go again. Thank you

The restaurant over charged me by £100, and when I asked for them to refund me the £100 they said “we can’t do it until my brother is in at 12:00 tomorrow to bank transfer you” which sounded dodgy to me. So when I asked for cash in that case they said that they can give me cash but I had to give it back the next day and they will transfer me the money back again so that they didn’t pay VAT on the first transaction. When they arrived at my house 45 minutes later the man tried to argue with me that I should wait for tomorrow to get a bank transfer from his brother and I told him no we agreed cash and he reluctantly pulled the cash out of his pocket and gave it to me. To add insult to injury the food was cold and not great to be honest. He had told me that I would receive the bank transfer by 12:00 the next day and that he would phone to arrange picking the cash back up. 12:00 came and went with no transfer, so I texted and called to chase this up to which I was told “it will be sometime this evening now, we will call you when we are outside”. I told them no I’m not just going to sit in and wait for them to call me at whenever works for them as I have other things to do and he said that it is the only way and they will be coming this evening. I asked that since they have put me out so much that they should at least refund the full transaction including the price of my meal. This prompted him to start raising his voice down the phone at me and start insulting me with things like “so you’re this kind of guy then” etc. When I told him I don’t appreciate him having a go at me when I’ve had to chase them down to sort this out he ended up eventually just hanging up on me. Avoid this place, so dodgy.

I ordered lamb meat but was given beef (cow meat) instead. This is completely unacceptable and misleading, especially for those with religious or dietary restrictions. Mislabeling food is a serious offense. I will be filing a formal complaint and considering legal action if this is not addressed properly.

Fantastic place, the food there tastes very good and the portions are also nice, my go to place every time I want to eat a heart-warming meal for affordable price.

Popped in here rather later in the evening than I like to eat, but it had been a very long day and I was in need of sustenance. There's not much else around in this area, and this place was a) open, and b) errr... open. It wasn't exactly busy, but the staff were very welcoming and made us feel at home without being overly-fussy. We were instantly offered popadums and a drinks order was soon placed for some Cobra beer. Very soon the combination of beer and popadums started to relax the tensions of the day. I wasn't starving hungry and didn't want to eat a large meal this late, so I settled for the fish bhuna and a plain nan. The food was absolutely delicious I have to say - very tasty without being too spicy. Just what was needed for a late evening meal. A surprising little gem of a curry house in this deserted stretch of Hagley Road. Well worth visiting if you're passing - they deserve the custom.

The Banu is modern restaurant situated on the busy Hagley Road, close to the areas of Edgbaston, Harborne and Bearwood. The restaurant has been here since the 1970s and has changed management many times. I happily chatted to the current manager whilst I was eating at my table. He was a friendly chap and told me that he was in partnership in the 1980s and now fully owns the restaurant. The décor inside the restaurant is pristine and inviting. It has a contemporary approach that reflects the modern style cuisine that they serve. Their mission is clearly stated on the menu and that is to serve the best in authentic food of the Indian Subcontinent, specialising in the Indian and Bangladeshi Cuisine. The specialty dishes include Madras, Bhuna, Kurma, Balti Pathia, Rogan Josh and Karai The Chefs specials Chicken Salami Singri Saag Chicken chilli & Garlic Massalla Chicken & King Prawn Anarkali I had a very hot Madras and a Mango Lassi to help reduce the heat levels. I enjoyed the succulent chicken and the rich sauce that it was served in. The service was quite good and the staff were very friendly. I will be sure to come here again.

My husband (a native Brummie) and I were recently in Birmingham visiting family. For New Year's Eve, DH wanted to take me to dinner, just the two of us. As far as I'm concerned, he chose well. I don't remember what he ordered, but we started the evening with poppadoms and a few dips. Mango chutney - wow! Great stuff! I also had a starter of chicken tandoori, and my main was butter chicken with boiled rice. Thoroughly enjoyed it, as well as the tea served after the meal. If you're ever in Birmingham, I strongly suggest this restaurant. We'll certainly be returning on our next visit to the UK.

I'd never heard of the Banu Indian Restaurant when a friend of mine took me for the first time after we met for a couple of after work drinks. I love a quality chicken tikka masala and tend to always go for my trusty favourite. Although the creamy texture and flavouring of it was delicious, I was disappointed with the amount of chicken in my curry. I found that it was mainly the tikka sauce in my dish which did come in handy for dipping my nan bread in but not good enough when you're paying £7 for a curry. My friend ordered the chicken balti and she seemed to have a lot more chicken pieces in hers so I put it down to pot luck. If you do go here, just pay attention to the portion controls as otherwise you will end up paying a lot of money for a bowl of creamy sauce!

Banu is right in our neighbourhood and since we moved here, we´ve been a few times to the restaurant and have never been disappointed: Whether we ate in, or had take away, the food was always delicious! The value for the money is good and if you eat in, be prepared to have the friendliest waiter ever. It does not look very inviting from outside, but it is very nicely decorated inside. So if you live near by have a look yourself. It is also open quite late, which we found out recently (very handy for late night craves ;) )Highly recommended!

After hearing great things about this restaurant, I went with my then fiance for an evening meal. The food was swimming in oil and the naan was burnt. It was the kind of food I would expect to from a saturday night delivery hut. The service was good though and the restaurant was well presented. That's why I give two stars. The waiter was polite and we didnt have to wait for a table. I would not go back unless they changed the menu and the chef. Careful with parking too. I had to park down a side road and then walk around onto Hagley Road. It was a little dark going back to the car after the meal and it didnt feel very safe.

This is the worst takeaway you will probably order I have ordered from here around 15 times and everytime there was a mistake missing food the wrong food and I let it go hopefully thinking they would change but tonight they send me missing food and by the time I recieved the rest of my food the other part was cold I phoned them and they told me to walk for 20mins to the restaurant for a refund in cash when I payed over the phone and told me they cannot refund it the same way I payed they are rude and need to be closed and the delivery driver also lied and said he was a manager but he was not do not order from here ever
