The Best New Openings in Thailand, From Buzzy Bangkok Restaurants to Koh Samui Resorts

"On the Andaman Sea side, Banyan Tree Krabi took over one of the prettiest stretches of Krabi's Tubkaek Beach at the end of 2020. From its gold-accented lobby and its 72 suites and villas (each with their own private pool and Jacuzzi tub), views of Phang Nga Bay’s dramatic karst formations are bewitching, but there's more to love: The Rainforest vitality pool lounge comes with every type of aqua-fun you can imagine—steam rooms, ice fountains, and massage pools—and the funicular ride up to the hilltop Thai restaurant is worth it for the sunset drinks alone."

Our experience overall was outstanding. The views and setting are breathtaking. The staff and level of service was fantastic - they seemed to anticipate our every need. Shout out to Daria for being so attentive to our family. Their New Year’s Eve gala was over-the-top - the beachfront set up was magnificent and the range of food offerings was incredible. The staff seemed truly thrilled to be hosting this event, which made it really fun for all of us. The team managed to build out a stage and then break it all down during the nights so that guests were never impacted. The only possible negatives to cite were that lunch service was quite slow - but the staff would accommodate guests to eat anywhere they wanted at the beachfront, and the quality of the main Naga restaurant was very good for dinner, but not at a Michelin star level (not that they advertised as such). Perhaps the breadth of the menu (dozens of options of all cuisine types) meant that none excelled. The breakfast buffet was massive and quite good. The Saffron restaurant serving Thai food was also quite good. We did the Dragon Crest hike in the national park that is a 5 minute walk from the resort entrance - highly recommended for those who are at least reasonably fit. A great destination for a family vacation.

The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are stunning. The food is great, and the beach and natural beauty surrounding this location is breathtaking. I will say that what I was most impressed by is the hospitality and attentive staff that has made our honeymoon stay here truly unforgettable. They have been attentive, welcoming, and have taken care of our every need while here. Also they welcomed us with a really thoughtful surprise treats for us for our honeymoon. I would stay here a million times over again!

Utterly exceptional! I love everything about this place. The staff were truly unbelievable- authentic, warm, polite and kind. The food was 10/10 (6 days and we ate nowhere else), the kids pool and kids club were cute… but our one bedroom pool villa was the ultimate! The most prefect villa- sky starry lights in the pool, water fountains, spa with jetting, two day beds, supreme view, the world’s most comfortable bed, perfect in room amenities… divine. The sweet bonuses each day were very special- cookies, treats etc. The spa treatments and rainforest spa was really pleasurable too. The staff by the beach and pool with the sun cream, pop toys, cold face towels etc the list goes on! Chinese new year BBQ was super too! We also hired a yacht for a day which was 10/10! We would return in a heartbeat.

The resort was AMAZING. One of the best places we've ever stayed in the world. Upon check in the hotel lobby opens up to a truly breathtaking view. We were greeted with welcome drinks & towels. We arrived fairly early ahead of check in, around 1lam & they informed us that they upgraded our original room (oceanfront king) to a one bedroom villa. Since it was quite early the room wasn't ready but offered us a "staging" room to change & drop our stuff off while we explore the property while waiting for the villa. They took us in the buggy to this "staging room" which was just a normal room! We had the opportunity to lay down, change, wash up. Even the regular room was so nice! When they moved us to our Villa, my mouth dropped. It was gorgeous!! We even saw a cute little wedding ceremony from our private patio.||The property is stunning & had so many amenities.|Complimentary breakfast buffet was delicious and offered so many options. We had afternoon tea/lunch at the bird's nest which was so relaxing. The beach is nice & private. There is a resort next door but it never felt busy. They even had free kayak rentals. We also booked the "white pearl" which is the hotel's private long tail boat to explore Hong Island for half the day and it was so luxurious. They took care of everything for us, soft drinks, water, carried our belongings to the beach, set up our picnic & when it was time to head back they prepared fresh fruit & fresh coconut drinks. We were so spoiled! We got there right before the crowds so it was perfect. Spent the morning snorkeling & hiking to the viewpoint. Room service was also delicious, even had the in room shabu shabu for our final night & it was soooo much food for 2 people.||Overall, this resort was impressive. It's totally ruined me & now I compare all of these beach resorts to this one! The service was top tier & they truly deserve all the awards. Yes, it is pricey but worth it. A once in a lifetime experience you will never regret. Thank you Banyan Tree Krabi! We hope to be back one day.

The villas are expertly designed and truly unique. The wrap around pool was wonderful, with one side being shallow and the other deep. Although the same hand pulled boat across the small stream was interesting, we didn't try it. The service and food was also top notch. Daria, our host, was great and took us to the room by golf cart and showed us all the features in the villa. Asking for airport transfers was extremely easy. Only drawback is that we didn't stay more days:)

A truly incredible hotel. The location is awe inspiring, the rooms beautiful, the food was consistently amazing but what makes the Banyan Tree Krabi special, are the staff. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with open arms and a smile. Housekeeping was seamless, our emails organising trips and the spa before we arrived were answered speedily and efficiently. A real highlight was New Years Eve and all the staff were so amazing all evening from cocktails on arrival, entertainment, the hosts, and an outstanding dinner. Our thanks to everyone who made the evening so special.|A special thanks to Toey whose energy, optimism and help on the beach was really appreciated, Zen who saved our boat trip, Pop who checked in on us when we returned and Mo who was so lovely during our meal at Saffron.

Holiday with family over Christmas time||Summary|Our first stay in a Banyan Tree property|In summary a blissful location, fabulous room, great service, and the food was excellent apart from the gluten free experience which is the only reason this hotel doesn’t rate 5. I have to be honest on this for other guests coming as even with the attention of Chef and GM it’s a major concern for customer with coeliac disease (we have 2 in family)||Location|Top end of the beach so is quiet - which is exactly what we wanted. It’s also 30 mins out of Krabi so if you are looking for things outside hotel factor this in. For us no issue as again what we wanted. The views of the islands are incredible and the sunsets beautiful.|We were there over Christmas and were lucky that had no rain during days during stay. Some showers in nighttime.|Not too many mosquitoes and the hotel provides spray in room and at restaurants ||Room|We had a 2 bed beachfront pool villa. This was a phenomenal room. Very spacious inside and able to accommodate a rollaway in the master. Lovely decor. Good that had multi plug chargers|Garden was very large with lots of different seating areas so can always find shade. There are also steps directly down to the beach|Note there are 2 of these suites. The one we had was I02 and is the better of the 2 of these rooms as the garden is larger and not so overlooked||Service|Really terrific all round.|The pre arrival support to book restaurants, transfers and activities was very good|Lovely arrival and greeting from Fah who helped during the stay|Very friendly service all week from all hotel colleagues.|We had a couple of things requiring attention in the room and those were very rapidly sorted |We also had a more major matter and the hotel were incredibly helpful and professional. Thank you||Food|In general the food was fabulous. But the marking of gluten free on menu, in the buffet and communicated by waiters was very inconsistent. We did speak with Chef and GM and it improved significantly over the week but really is a major fall down that I hope can be addressed as it’s not really acceptable for a hotel such as this|Naga breakfast - really terrific selection and a variety of hot dishes each day which were delicious. The chef also kindly made me pad thai on a couple of occasions. Thank you!|Naga Dinner - terrific food with a great variety. Lovely to be able to sit outside|Saffron - lovely setting. Delicious food. Fantastic service|Kredkaew- probably the least good with not such a good variety of Thai food options and the time taken for food delivery at lunch and dinner was quite slow|We didn’t have a chance to eat in Birds Nest which was a pity||Trips|We did one trip on the hotel boat. Planned for Hong Island but we discovered this was even more touristy than the Tripadvisor reviews! Very kindly Woody (boat host) took us elsewhere for snorkelling and to another quiet beach where we chilled and had snacks. This was unexpected and very kind||Gym|Gym is good. 2 running machines, a step machine and a bike|Some dumbells and some weight resistance machines|I went lunchtime and was usually very quiet. My kids went mornings and it was busy |For improvement could do with rowing machine and also heavier weights as the dumbells only up to 25kg||Spa|Wife and girls used the spa which they said was very good

What a magical place!! Highly recommend! Not only is the property stunning but the service and hospitality are unmatched. Daria, the hostess is amazing...she noticed my kids got sun burned and she took it upon herself to have aloe sent to our room. In addition, she quickly knew all my family members by their first names and had a special cake delivered to the room to help celebrate our family holiday. Upon leaving, she greeted us with a painting she made for us and a thank you card including drawings of my family. What a personal touch! This place is an 11 on 10!! Loved, loved, loved! We would go back in a heartbeat!!
