Beautiful rooms and superb breakfast. We will choose this property over others in Shanghai.
The rooms were spacious and beautifully designed, a tasteful blend of modern Chinese elements and Banyan Tree’s signature resort style. The large bathtub and picture perfect view of the Shanghai Pudong skyline made the stay feel truly luxurious. However, the rooms are starting to show minor signs of age and could use some maintenance.
Service, unfortunately, fell short of the warm hospitality we had experienced from Banyan Tree properties in Southeast Asia. While the managers we met were friendly and professional, the rest of the staff seemed disengaged when unsupervised, which left the overall service experience feeling a bit cold.
Breakfast was excellent, classic Banyan Tree quality. The spread was extensive, with corners after corners to discover. And it came with complimentary Brut, just like many of their resorts elsewhere. Seating was limited, perhaps because guests tended to linger unintentionally, but Banyan Tree smartly compensates with extended breakfast hours.
We actually found the room design and breakfast experience better than another Forbes 5 star hotel we stayed at in Shanghai, which is justifiable for the higher rate. This Banyan Tree property is hitting above its category in the crowded Shanghai hospitality space. Overall a memorable stay!
