The 11 Best Hotels in Phuket, From Oceanside Villas to Wellness Retreats

"The adjoining stretch of Bang Tao beach might not be the most picturesque and the setting between apartment buildings not the most enticing—but none of that matters after you’ve checked in at one of Banyan Tree’s private pool villas. Somewhat confusingly, the villas—classic Thai affairs with pointed roofs and teakwood floors—are spread over three distinct areas: book the adult-only Spa Sanctuary villas for all-you-can-spa perks, or the DoublePool villas for twin pools and heaps of space. But even the entry-level villas at the main address offer plenty of comforts, with open-air bathtubs, walled gardens, and pools long enough for laps." - Chris Schalkx

We spent three days at this splendid hotel as part of our honeymoon. The villa was stunning, with two pools and incredibly spacious. The gardens are magnificent and beautifully maintained. The breakfast is extremely varied and of very high quality compared to other 5-star hotels in Thailand.||We would like to give special thanks to Nadia, our villa host, who made our stay very enjoyable by accommodating all our requests and being extremely responsive.||We are looking forward to returning soon to this hotel, which is one of the most beautiful on the island.

After coveting this hotel for many years, we were so impressed in our visit last year that we chose to return this year.|We stayed in a one bedroom double pool villa again, and were able to have the same villa as last year.|Overall, another great stay at this hotel. |They seem to have pared back slightly on the gifts in the room, however if I’d not been before I would never have missed these.|Recommend taking breakfasts at Tre. Their menu is more limited than The Watercourt, however it is considerably more peaceful, with far less children there.|The lagoon was unfortunately suffering from a lot of algae type growth while we were there.|Overall another good stay, would absolutely recommend.

Banyan Tree Phuket is a peaceful and romantic resort surrounded by greenery and lagoons. The villas are very spacious, comfortable, and come with private pools, It's very relaxing and private, it was a wonderful experience! We also enjoyed massages at the spa, which were excellent! The staff were very polite and helpful, and the property was well maintained. Breakfast had a good variety of Western and Asian options, and the quality was consistent. We also ordered room service for dinner and it was delicious. The resort is a bit spread out, so you may need to use the bicycles or buggy service to get around. The location is slightly away from the main tourist areas, but there are restaurants and the beach within walking distance. Overall, a comfortable, relaxing, and romantic stay. Thank you Banyan for the special memories!

We were lucky to stay in 5 star hotels throughout our far east trip but this one topped them all! The standard of the villas, the staff and the food was outstanding. We had a magical week, chose to stay in our own pool some days, but also used the hotel pool and new beach club. Ate in every restaurant. What a beautiful place

I recently stayed at your resort from August 3 to 7 in a Double Pool Villa with my three young children. While there were some positive aspects to our stay, I feel compelled to share several serious concerns that negatively impacted our overall experience. Issues we encountered: 1. Unclean Microwave The inside of the microwave was dirty from the first day. I purposely refrained from reporting it immediately to see if housekeeping would notice and clean it, but it remained unclean the next day as well. It was finally addressed two days later, which was disappointing. 2. Severe Insect Problems Numerous insects—including flies, wasps, and even centipedes—frequently entered the living area, making it extremely difficult for my children to play comfortably. I spent much of the night trying to deal with them, which was exhausting. 3. Misplaced Items from Another Villa Shockingly, towels meant for another villa were left in our living room, along with a note clearly addressed to someone else. This was unacceptable and raised serious concerns about attention to detail and guest privacy. 4. Large Lizards in the Villa Perhaps the most distressing issue was the presence of large monitor lizards around the villa, especially near the private pool. Some were over 1–2 meters in length—larger than my 3-year-old child. Although the manager assured us that the lizards were harmless, the issue was not just about safety. My child was frightened and refused to enter the pool again. This significantly affected our ability to enjoy the villa as a family. On the positive side: 1. Responsive Management The manager was prompt in responding to our concerns and tried to accommodate us as best as possible. 2. Convenient Shuttle and Buggy Services The shuttle and buggy services were efficient and readily available without long waits. 3. Smooth Check-Out The check-out process was quick and accurate. It is truly unfortunate. We had high expectations and saw great potential in your property, but it felt as though several issues were handled carelessly. This could have been a much better experience with more attention to detail and proactive service. I hope you take this feedback seriously to improve the experience for future guests.

My wife was impressed by the flower arrangements provided upon check-in. The facilities are a bit dated, but they remain luxurious. The staff, though seemingly busy, are friendly and attentive to guests and never make mistakes. The rooms are clean and well-stocked with amenities to accommodate the number of guests. The restaurant food is also of a high standard, and the breakfast menu offers a variety of options. While some remodeling is a bit disappointing, overall, we are very satisfied. I hope this continues until check-out.

We are still at Banyan Tree (villa 809) and with only two days left before we have to go back to the UK I thought I’d get this review out of the way. Banyan Tree is an easy five out of five. If I had to pick just one thing that could be improved it would be wifi - they need a more reliable and stronger connection throughout the resort. That said, perhaps it’s for the best - put your phone away and chill. Otherwise, our stay has been absolutely perfect. The service from all the staff we’ve come to meet here has been excellent. I’ve thought about it - what makes service at Banyan Tree better than service at pretty much any other 5-star hotel we’ve ever stayed in. The answer is - they just have more staff per guest. There’s a lot of hotel people everywhere - and they are all just incredibly welcoming and helpful. It seems that nothing is impossible for them. Thank you! Lastly, the in-villa barbecue was brilliant (thank you, Title! You made our dining experience truly memorable!). It’s priced as “per 2 people”, but I’m not sure what kind of two people it’s intended for - it’s not humanly possible for 2 people to finish all this food! We are a family of four (2 teenage kids) and our dinner “for 2” was more than we could possibly eat. This has been an amazing holiday - thank you to all Banyan Tree staff for such an unforgettable experience!

We’ve enjoying an unforgettable stay at the Banyan Tree Phuket and can honestly say it’s one of the best resort experiences we’ve ever had. We stayed in one of the Double Pool Two-Bedroom Villas, and it was absolutely stunning—like having our own private palace. The villa was beautifully designed with tasteful nods to Thai culture, incredibly spacious, and packed with thoughtful touches and amenities that made it feel like home (but better!). The two private pools were a real highlight—one of them you could step into straight from the bedroom—which, along with the private garden and serene views over the lagoon, made it feel like our own secluded paradise. The food throughout our stay was outstanding. Everything tasted fresh and full of authentic flavour, from the wide breakfast selection (the khao tom—Thai congee—was especially delicious) to bold Thai dishes and surprisingly excellent Korean and Japanese options. One of the highlights was a private BBQ at our villa, expertly prepared by Chef K. Dam. The food was exceptional and they even created a fantastic spread of vegan dishes, which made us feel really well looked after. The service, though, is what truly set this stay apart. Every single staff member we met was warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. Special thanks to our wonderful villa host, K. Mo, who took such great care of us and made everything feel effortless. The resort itself is gorgeous—lush gardens, peaceful lagoon views, and a real sense of space and calm. It’s the kind of place where you can truly switch off and relax. We honestly don’t want to leave and are already talking about when we can come back. Banyan Tree Phuket is something very special.
