If you want to try noodles, this may be the place for you. My boyfriend asked for the noodles and the broth was amazing, he said it was one of the best that he ate in Dublin. But I asked for the sushi 4x4 (just salmon) and for the tempura prawns roll and was very disappointed. First of all, half of the sushi was way too spicy and that might be my fault, because I asked for the sushi and couldn't handle it.. so here's a heads up if you like spicy but in moderation. But even so, the rest of the sushi didn't feel fresh. There were just 4 more pieces with salmon and it didn't taste right. The other pieces were with crab cake and the other with prawn and the prawn one was very "muchy". Overall the rice didn't feel good too and it wasn't well seasoned. I felt a bit sick eating. Also the size of the sushi bite is very big. The only thing that felt good was the avocado. We also asked for the miso soup and it was a nice flavour, but even tho it's small, after a while the flavour is overpowering. I feel a bit weird giving this review because the staff were very nice to us and the space was also very welcoming. They have other plates and maybe they are better, but if you are going to eat sushi, I don't recommend it.

Google
decided to go here after reading another review saying “it was a hidden gem”. Would say I’m a bit of a sushi snob, but this doesn’t even come close to even a 4/5. Service was fine but the sushi had SO much rice, tuna was chewy and was so overpriced. Just trying to keep it real and give people an accurate rating than a tourist or someone who simply enjoys sushi the simple way. It leaves you full but not satisfied, didnt even finish :/ If you’re a sushi snob like me, find a different place.

Writing this review is a bit hard because the dinner left me with mixed feelings. The overall meal was ok. Mildly enjoyable. Each course though has something off. On one case "very off". The chicken tempura tasted a bit funny. I initially assumed they had used some special seasoning. In retrospective I question how fresh it was. To be tasty my ramen required abundant addition of soy sauce even if I went for a pretty rich variant of ramen, full of meat. The dessert was not enjoyable. And at a certain point it has some weirdly flavored parts, like a very spicy hot couple of bites. A shame because the personnel was nice and the place looked inviting.

Couldn’t have been a better experience, staff warm and friendly. Always has availability without booking both times we came. Food was AMAZING and such good value. Will definitely be returning to Dublin just for this place !

Google
This place has THE BEST sushi and Mochi desert i have ever tried. Food is always fresh, piping hot, service is absolutely beautiful, waiters are so friendly and helping. I do wish they updated the inside though, so it looks more modern or just freshen it up, to attract more guests but whoever came here once, will always show up again! Thank you so much team!

Google
This is my favorite ramen place in Dublin. I love the kimchi ramen with seafood. The sushi rolls are great too. The service is always excellent. They also have a vegan menu which I appreciate since I have some vegan friends. It's better to make a reservation if you're coming for dinner. But it's usually not too busy earlier in the day.

I normally go there once a month but every month it seems to get even better. The staff are always kind and helpful and try their best to find a table no matter what. If you’re on a budget I would recommend the sushi bento box it’s €13.50. I would also recommend the chicken gyoza and Tori Kara a-ge. Exceptional service and atmosphere every time. A special mention to the art work in the restaurant unique and a conversation starter.

Google
Excellent food and service! We recently visited and the sushi was amazing, and the cocktails also delicious! We visited for my partner’s birthday - having booked via Open Table, this prompted us to give the booking occasion as birthday. I’d made the booking a month or so ahead of time and had forgotten this, so it was a lovely surprise when our waitress brought out a dessert on the house - a lovely touch! Thanks so much Banyi, we cannot recommend enough!

Yelp
So, this was the first restaurant that I ate it while visiting Ireland!!! I was greeted by warm and upbeat customer service and seated promptly! I asked for recommendations on what is best to order, and I was suggested the Ramen!!! I ordered the tempura ramen & was knocked off my socks! This tempura ramen comes with crispy tempura fried shrimp, fresh vegetables, corn, seaweed wrap, and a sweet and savory base!!! Oh my my! I took my time slurping up this goodness! Every single last drop of soup! The ambiance of this location is very zen and it feels like you are in a ramen shop in Japan. The folks who run this establishment hit the nail on every end! Cheers to good eats!

Yelp
The atmosphere here is casual, service is good. I haven't tried the food, I only come here because they have this great dessert, matcha fondue I think is the name of it, it's about (~€9), It's like matcha cake with a gooey matcha melted center and it comes with red bean ice cream on the side that sits on some cookie crumble. Definitely not ur average dessert, they also have a chocolate option, but I fell in love with the matcha one and I keep going back for that dessert. If u go and u like matcha, try this unique matcha dessert.

Yelp
One of the best Japanese restaurants I had in Ireland .Amazing staff, provided wonderful experienced. Food was delicious, great atmosphere

Sunny C.

Yelp
The sushi is very fresh and yummy. It definitely satisfied my sushi cravings! Very friendly service as well!

Alicia L.

Yelp
Ordered a sushi roll and it was way too small and too little food for the high price. The waiter recommended the california tempura roll to me with prawn tempura, eel, avocado, and eel sauce and it was a very small roll diameter wise. The prawn tempura was subpar and the roll tasted just alright-- not very impressive, yet quite expensive. Service was very good so that's a plus and I think I would go back to maybe try their bento box but I would say stay away from their sushi rolls-- not worth it!

Yelp
Probably the most authentic Japanese restaurant in Dublin. A lot of Asian restaurants here are weird hybrid shops that serve stuff like Thai Green Curry along with Kung Pao Chicken, but this place only serves Japanese food and the staff is mostly Japanese. We came around 2:00 and they were still serving their lunch specials, which were incredibly affordable. I got the Tempura Sea Bass Bento (10.50 Euros) which was a bargain for lunch, considering that most meals in Ireland cost around 12-15 Euros on average. It came with rice and miso soup. The sea bass was flaky and fresh, and the batter was crispy but light. The bean sprouts were alright, if a little bland. I also enjoyed the fried tuna fritters. The Nagoya Tebasaki Chicken Wings (around 8 Euros) had a good flavor. They reminded me of the chicken wings that Yoshinoya used to sell. I do wish it was served a little hot. My friend got the 2 course meal for around 20 Euros, which included a fish croquette and Chicken Karaage. I loved the Chicken Karaage, which was juicy and marinated well, but super crispy on the outside. The fish croquette was boring. Water here is not complimentary; they charge 1 Euro for a bottle. If you're craving Japanese food in Dublin, come here.

Yelp
Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Came here for a quick lunch with my sister during our stay in Dublin. I *think* we ordered the Banyi sushi for 2. It's the one that includes the 4 piece spider roll, 4 piece dragon roll, and sashimi. We also ordered the chicken bento. The spider and dragon roll were delicious. We did order them without the wasabi mayo since I can't eat anything spicy. Thankfully, they were able to accommodate this for me. The chicken bento wasn't too special. My favorites has to be the sushi :)

Cindy N.

Yelp
I was craving ramen and stumbled across this charming little place. I was greeted promptly by very friendly staff. The food was very good. I enjoyed the gyoza and ramen. While slightly less flavorful than I'm accustomed to, I thoroughly enjoyed my food and had no complaints. I topped of my meal with the absolute BEST mochi I have ever had. If you are in Dublin and have a hankering for some ramen, I truly recommend this lovely restaurant.

Crypterion M.

Yelp
I'm very picky when it comes to eating out, and even pickier when it comes to japanese dining because it's a difficult cuisine to master. The food here is clearly made with care and effort anf using high quality fresh ingredients, the sashimi is the biggest tell of a japanese diner and this restaurant has the best I've had anywhere in Dublin, optimum period is the cold season. Recently they started selling their homemade ice cream in flavors like green tea, red bean and sesame and more and I have to say, I don't normally like ice cream but theirs changed my mind. I won't have have any ice cream but theirs

Ellen S.

Yelp
We were lucky enough to score a voucher for a 4 course menu including drink and coffee/tea for a mere 22 euro per person. Can it get better than that? Me thinks not. This particular menu would normally set you back 45 euro, which I believe is still good value looking at the quality of the food, the originality and the presentation. Maybe for a special occasion? We started off with a bowl of edamame and lovely house drinks (I had a very sweet verdejo frizzante) - The amuse bouche, a tempura tofu, was quite a large portion - but wasn't a big fan of the flavours to be honest, a bit bland, and awkward to eat with chopsticks. My starter of beef tataki was superb, succulent slices of meat served with a lovely sweet sauce. The star of the night was definitely the sushi platter. 9 pieces of uramaki, 2 nigiri and 2 sashimi. The presentation was as pretty as a picture, some flowers and dry ice. It looked magical...and tasted even better. For dessert I opted for an Asian style panna cotta served with raspberries and poppyseed icecream. WOW, I could have had another one of those! The restaurant is small enough, with a cozy downstairs part as well. We were seated at the window, and were quite cold, which was a pity and marking them down for this, as we asked if the heater could be turned up, but they just shrug it off. Other than that service was extremely polite and helpful. Banyi is a little bit more expensive than most Japanese places in Dublin but the few extra euro are definitely worth it in my eyes, and I shall be back to try their bento boxes and more of that sushi. mmmmm!

Yelp
Yum yum yum! We stopped in the city for a quick lunch before our flight home and found this awesomely illustrated Japanese place - a welcome break from the pies, stews and burgers we'd been eating for a week! The bento boxes we ordered (pork and salmon) were delicious, filled with a range of sushi, tempura, meat, bean sprout and seaweed salad goodness. We were also given rice on the side and miso soup, and as someone who isn't a massive miso soup fan, I was pleasantly surprised! Also a special mention to the attentive and friendly service; the staff here were incredibly polite and always ensuring we were enjoying ourselves. Definitely hit up this place if you're in Dublin and want something less Irish - with €10.90 bentos for lunch, you really can't go wrong!

Yelp
I made reservation last night . Maybe because we're 30 minutes late we had a table downstairs which my friends didn't like a bit Coz the table we had is near to the toilet. We had the Christmas deals they have for 3 meal course . The starters were great but the ebi tempura is a bit over cooked that it's a bit hard to eat. The gyoza that my friends are having are the best. On the main course we had a pork ramen which I recommend the best. The desserts are also nice . And the home made ice creams are very good also. Overall we paid like 120€ for the 3 of us. For a full course meal for 3 people with a bottle of wine .

Yelp
Let me start by saying that me and my friends were very much disappointed when one of the staff came to our table and said "could you guys keep your voice down? We got complained by other guest". Seriously? We were sitting at the entrance and the other table was divided by a wall. No other guest sat beside our table. First of all, it was RUDE! Secondly, it's a restaurant and if your other guest want to eat in quite and peace, they can eat at their home. Thirdly, me and my friends were just having a good chat and laugh out loud. We weren't drunk at all and wasn't in bad behavior either. Is it wrong to laugh out loud in a restaurant when you having good conversation and companionship? That waitress killed all the moods. After all the food was just OK typical chinese using Japanese name. Only asians can tell the real asian taste. Yamamori and Fujiyama serve better. We decided to finish up quickly, pay and leave. They don't deserve any cent for tips. Good luck!

Yelp
If I were made to choose to eat at only one Japanese restaurant in Dublin, I would not even hesitate to choose Banyi. I have been here several times and this place never ceases to impress me. And somehow they manage to surpass my expectation of them every single time. This restaurant is great whether you just want to have a casual lunch with friends or have dinner for a special occasion. The staff are so friendly and very attentive that they do not even have to ask you who ordered what. Their menu changes often which I think is great as they offer variety. The food is delicious and is visually appealing. You almost don't want to eat it because the presentation is just too pretty! Haha This place is on the pricey side but every single cent spent is so worth it. I highly recommend their black sesame ice-cream and their salmon teriyaki! Yelp
This is by far the best Japanese restaurant I've ever been to outside Japan! The staff were ver friendly and I was pleasantly surprised with an "Irasshaimase" (Japanese for "Welcome") upon entering. The service was excellent, the food came pretty quick and the staff were very attentive and polite. The interior is really nice and the atmosphere is classy yet pleasant, and the walls have some beautiful Japanese paintings. The sushi and sashimi were amazing, I would have to say one of the best in Dublin!! The fish was really fresh and succulent, and the Tamago (egg) nigiri sushi had just the right amount of sweetness. The presentation of the food as well is really pretty and done to perfection, and I was surprised to see dry ice steaming out from under the sashimi! Also I really liked the miso soup here too. My dad had the beef tataki and a rib eye steak, which was served with a bowl of rice and looked really good too. In terms of price, it can be a bit on the pricer side of things, about 7-8 euro for just a starter, and 18- 20 euro per person for a main, but the sushi and sashimi selection is only 12.50, which is a good deal and great to try if your unsure of what to order, especially with the sheer amount of sushi on the menu. You can also order selected sushi a la carte, 3.50 for 2 pieces, or 4 pieces of sashimi for 5-6 euro. I really recommend Tekka (Fresh Tuna) or the sea-bass sashimi. Overall, 5/5 sushi, 5/5 service, beautiful decoration and quite authentic!

Yelp
Highly recommended. A few points to entice you: - Excellent location, right next to the Ha'penny Bridge, down a little forgotten-about lane way in Temple Bar - Lovely decor inside - nice Japanese art, incense burning, comfortable lighting, etc - Excellent service. Very attentive, very friendly (if a little formal, though that goes with the territory with the Japanese I guess) Now, it is a little on the pricier side, but, the food was really very good. For starters, I had the Fillet Beef Tataki, which is grilled fillet steak slices served with Ponzo sauce. This was ok. The beef was far too done for me, and the sauce didn't have much depth to it. If you do like good crispy beef (it wasn't tough), this would be the starter for you. For main, I split the spicy tuna roll (minced tuna mixed with scallion, chives and kimchi base), and the spider roll (soft shell crab, avocado and wasabi mayo). Both were really exceptional. Served beautifully, really tasty, and filling. Be warned that the spicy tuna has quite a kick to it! Overall, I would definitely recommend it, and will be back myself.

Yelp
I attended a really enjoyable Yelp Foodie club here. Seven of us, yelp faces familiar and not so familiar, were here to enjoy the wares of Banyi. The décor is nice. I especially liked the painted windows, really captured the Japanese tone of the place. The food I ordered was delicious, I had the Gyoza for 7.50 EUR to start and the Salmon and Avocado Norimaki roll for 9.25 EUR. Both really tasty. All the food was presented really well, the sashimi boats that Michelle and Bez ordered were especially impressive. I did think the portion of the sushi I ordered was a bit small for the price. And I know the folk who ordered the bento box were not full after it, that cost 18 EUR. The wine, chosen by Bez, was an excellent choice. An Alsace Riesling, which I probably wouldn't have ordered because of the price, 30 EUR is a little above my normal budget for a dining out wine. But I was delighted he did choose it, it really added to my meal. I also had the Cosmo Sake after my meal, which was a Sake twist on the old favourite, Cosmopolitan. For 8.50 EUR I thought it was excellent value and an excellent cocktail. The staff were extremely pleasant and very attentive. I even got a smiling thank you from one of the chefs as we left. Nice food, nice place and nice people. However I am dropping a star for the value of some of the dishes.

Melissa M.

Yelp
Trying to find decent Japanese food while away from home (Hawaii) is often a challenge. So we were quite happy to find awesome Japanese food in the Temple Bar area. I had the sea bass bento box and mom had the miso ramen. I felt the bento box was a good deal with sea bass, tempura, 3 nigiri pieces, salad, rice, and miso soup for €13.90. Overall, the dining experience was awesome. The service was excellent. Would definitely go there again.

Rui S.

Yelp
Went for the ramen and it was tasty. Didn't taste the sushi but it looked yumiiiii Very helpful and friendly staff

Adrian M.

Yelp
Was in the mood for some sushi, was walking by and decided to pop in. The menu is overwhelming, my biggest take away is that their specialty is not sushi or sashimi. Most of the folks around us ordered bento boxes with lots of fried protein and that seems to be their thing. Giving them three stars because service was excellent, However the sushi was not of good quality.

Yvonne B.

Yelp
We came here for the 4 course tasting menu last Friday which comes with a choice of house cocktail or Prosecco. The reception was rather cool when we arrived and there they didn't seem to find the reservation which resulted in being offered a table next to the door. With the current minus 1 degrees we were not impressed and asked for another table in the next room which had plenty availabilities. We got seated and were straight away told that we needed to vacate within 2 hours. Fine, we're not gonna order that bottle of wine then. With our cocktails we got an appetizer of edamame, followed by grilled tofu for my friend and two nigiris for me. We then opted for beef tataki and the sushi combo as our mains. Both dishes were nice. I don't generally like deep fried stuff and even less so if you stuff that into my maki but hey, that's being done everywhere in Dublin so I suppose people generally like it. The deserts were really good and probably the best dish of the night: the mango cheese cake with pineapple sorbet was refreshing and light and the walnut and banana spongji with coffee ice cream was absolutely devine. The service was prompt but they were working towards the 2 hour mark so that might not be representative of an average sitting. I think I may be back to try a non-set menu and hopefully have a more relaxed experience.

Alice M.

Yelp
Pricey side for mediocre food and atmosphere. Plenty of better Japanese restaurants around.

Jane H.

Yelp
Have been looking for a great sushi place since I arrived home from california(amazing sushi) last month! This place is AMAZING! I am absolutely beaming as I write this! Well worth the money if you have a love for sushi. The rolls are as beautiful as they are tasty. Staff were lovely and service was quite quick, we ordered the spicy tuna roll and I asked to put avocado in which was no hassle! It was ace! We also ordered the tiger roll(tasty but slightly dry) and the hotate roll(perfection). My new favourite restaurant:)

Angie R.

Yelp
The staff was very friendly from the minute we walked in. The decor was lovely with Japanese pictures on the wall and a traditional Japanese sliding door divider. We got there for a late 3pm lunch so it was pretty quiet with only 4 other people dinning, so the staff was very attentive. We started with the edamame and a Asahi Japaneses beer. I had the Ebi Tempura Roll and my friend had the Sushi Nigiri Classic Chef Selection Platter 8 pieces. The presentation of the food with the smoking ice was unique and gave it an impressive flare, almost making it feel like a special occasion. The sushi was very fresh and and my Ebi (prawn) tempura roll with asparagus and wasabi mayo was very tasty. We really enjoyed our lunch there. The only down fall was the bill. I felt like it was a bit high for the amount of food we got and compared to other Japanese restaurants in town. Maybe they are trying to make up for the higher rents in Temple Bar. But over all a good lunch experience.

Derek L.

Yelp
A classic sushi spot with a great selection of sake cocktails. I definitely enjoyed the drinks more than the food, but it boasts very solid sushi rolls considering the location and price point.

Liuting D.

Yelp
Second time here, everything is AMAZING!! We used a voucher this time, which was a great deal, but they didn't compromise on high food quality and service at all. We will come back :)

Jennifer S.

Yelp
I didn't travel to Ireland to seek out Japanese food, but after a few days I was hankering for some soosh. I was worried because I had never had Japanese food in Ireland, but the sushi at Banyi was legit. Super fresh and fairly priced, topped off my a friendly staff. They even let my friend order some mochi after the kitchen closed, which was a nice gesture. Pleasantly surprised!

Kelly H.

Yelp
Had some lovely sushi and sashimi here. The bento boxes are great value for money and come beautifully presented. Prices are reasonable and the restaurant is in a handy location. The staff is lovely as well.

Maebh F.

Yelp
this is definitely my favourite Japanese restaurant in Ireland, the staff was ready to await us whenever our water was low, seating was very comfortable, the green tea tasted extraordinary. the food itself was gorgeous, heavenly even, the quality was incredible I had never tasted anything that good in Ireland ever. definetley recommend this place if in Temple bar area

Martina L.

Yelp
We tried some takeaway sushi, it was our first time here and I do not think we will try it again. It was not really "bad" but I wouldn't say it's good either. Also, prices seem to be more expensive than the average.

John N.

Yelp
The closest you'll get to good sushi and sashimi. The sashimi was good for local standards and service was quick and pleasant. They didn't have Sea Urchin, but it's almost impossible to find any in Ireland in general.

Conor H.

Yelp
Lemme first start off, food was fantastic and i would like to go there again purely for the food. But the waiting staff were way too overly attentive to the point of being unbearable, I wouldnt really recommend it if you were just going out to meet someone.... unless you're wearing a helmet that had some form of pepper spray that would detract the waiting staff from bothering you every 2 seconds. They were also mega loud to the point of being "those annoying people in the restaurant" even though they actually worked there. Anyway I'm sure it was some bizarre experience but i really wouldn't recommend eating there based on the experience alone, which is a shame cus the food was delicious.

Freya N.

Yelp
I had an "early bird" Tori Kara Age Bento while I was there. Like others have mentioned, the service was exceptional, and the food was good. The nigiri in the set were rather average, but the fish used were fresh. The karaage chicken and tuna were piping hot, but do refrain from using the extra tonkotsu sauce provided - the sauce drizzled onto the chicken is more than sufficient, I think. Overall, I'll be happy to eat at Banyi again.

Christine A.

Yelp
Was really satisfied both times I had been at this place. The food presentation was nice and food is lovely! I also enjoyed the edamame they serve while waiting for the food. Giving it one star less as the food is really pricey and I did not expect the desert to be so tiny for their price. Overall, a good restaurant, but only if paying higher amount than usual for sushi and dessert isn't an issue.

Charlie M.

Yelp
This place was surprisingly good. I say surprisingly because I tend to avoid temple bar eateries and their jacked up prices. Firstly the service is really good, smiling staff, warm welcome and efficiency. Then the food, the real reason a place will make it into my good books and recommendations, it is awesome! I have been eating sushi for years and years but this place has taken some creativity into its menu, o tried the house special roll and it was unreal. We had a great experience and will certainly be back to try more.

Mel M.

Yelp
Great restaurant. Cosy and intimate with a nice atmosphere. Good quality ingredients, fantastic presentation and generous portions. Affordable and all round good value for money. The only reason I didn't give it a full 5 stars was the service wasn't up to scratch. Our waitress wasn't attentive enough and lacked any customer service skills which we could have excused if we had of received a smile throughout our dining experience but didn't seem like she wanted to engage with her customers. Disregarding that I would still recommend giving it a visit as the food is definitely one of the best I've had in Dublin.

Vanessa H.

Yelp
The Japanese cuisine is one of my favorites, so when a little birdie (okay, so maybe it was actually an ad on Facebook) told me that there's a new Japanese in town, I had to try it. Today, myself and two friends spontaneously decided to go for dinner so we made Banyi our destination of the evening. I have to say that the fact it's in Temple Bar made me a tiny bit hesitant, as I tend to steer clear from Temple Bar. However, there are a few Gems (Il Vicoletto and Vintage Cocktail Club, anyone?!) so I thought why not, can't miss out on trying a new Japanese place just because it's in Temple Bar! We got there quite early (6 pm-ish) and got seated right away as we were the only customers in there but that wasn't for long! By the time we left (7.30 pm) it was pretty full - not bad considering that they've only been open for eight (8!) days and haven't done ANY advertising so far besides Facebook! They've done a nice job with the interior with dark wooden tables & chairs and vintage Japanese photo prints on the walls. Staff were very, very friendly and welcoming, so that's immediately a plus for me. They offer a set Menu (2 courses for €24, 3 courses for €29) or you can choose from a variety of dishes á la Carte - different Appetizers, Teriyaki and Udon dishes as well as Sushi and Sashimi as well as three different Bento Boxes. They also serve Wine and Beer. I opted for Gyoza as a starter and Bento Box as my main - the Gyoza were tasty and pan-fried just the right amount. The Bento Box came with a big bowl of rice and some Miso soup. The Miso soup had a nice, strong flavor (according to Japanese friends a good Miso soup is an indicator of how good the rest of the food is) and my bento Box contained just the right amount of food. My Bento included three different types of Nigiri and the fish was very fresh and of a really good quality. My friends both enjoyed their Bento and Chicken Chosenyaki a lot and so we decided we'd top the great food off with some dessert. I asked one of the waiters (who I think might be the manager as we chatted to him a bit and it seemed to me he was one of the people who runs the restaurant) and he recommended the Dorayaki to me - a Japanese pancake with red bean filling, served with red bean ice-cream! He said that most Westerners don't choose this dessert as it's quite "exotic", but since I've had red bean desserts before when I went to Korea, I decided to give it a try. Turned out to be a really good choice - it was flavorful and not too sweet, which is just what I'd hoped for. Friends opted for Hot Chocolate Fondant (SO good!) and Espresso Ice Cream (don't be fooled by the name - it was Vanilla ice cream with Espresso poured over, so essentially Affogato, but very nice nonetheless.) Overall, I really enjoyed this place and will definitely come back - staff was very attentive and friendly, and Prices are reasonable for the food as everything is freshly prepared. I did find Dessert a bit on the pricey side (€9.50), but then again, they do make everything from scratch, even the ice cream. If you fancy something different from the usual Temple Bar Grub, definitely pay Banyi a visit!

Emily B.

Yelp
We had a fantastic time here. A little pricey, but keep an eye out for their deals and specials. We got the €45 set menu that offered four courses, plus a cocktail and tea/coffee at the end. Overall, it was an amazing value when you consider the individual cost of the plates at any sushi establishment. Unlike some other sushi places in Dublin that are all ambiance but cut corners when it comes to the product (filling a combo roll with tempura and skimping out on fish/crab), the sushi was spot on. Your money is well spent on high quality fish and food that is gorgeously presented.

Yelena G.

Yelp
We came to resteraunt around 8pm.we ordered 2 bottles of wine which cost around €40 per bottle. Then we ordered some sashimi, and a big plate of nigiri.I took venison,I had rice and salad on the side. The medium size plate cost €20.The total price of the meal was €400 plus 10% service charge. As there were 10 of us it cost about €40 each, which in my option is very expensive. I did enjoy the evening, but as the restraunt is in temple it is too expensive, so I may or may not come back one day.

Yelp
Craving for Japanese food one night, I decided to consult Google for an alternative to the relatively older and much more popular Yamamori and found Banyi. Considering it was a Friday, we were able to book a table only two hours in advance. We were seated promptly by the window when we arrived and then served a small bowl of edamame which was helpful in curbing our hunger while we waited for our order. I enjoyed the mostly wooden interior, decorated with a few Japanese photos and a non-functioning shōji (traditional Japanese sliding door, window, or divider). The incadescent lighting was a little too dim I think and I couldn't figure out if it was insufficient heating or the window seats in particular (or maybe I wasn't wearing weather-appropriate clothes) but I felt a little chilly for the whole duration of our meal. As for the food, I went for a selection of sashimi and was pleasantly surprised to see it being served on a boat-shaped platter, elaborately garnished with carved carrots and cucumbers and had dry ice fog emanating from it. It was all very ornate and the look of intrigue on people's faces were very evident (I think it triggered a copycat effect!). I prefer minimal presentations but as long as they are fresh, which they were, then I have no qualms. My partner, on the other hand, opted for the bento which is always very good value if you want a medley of flavours to tickle your taste buds. We also ordered a small bottle of sake and with the arrival of each item our table looked increasingly cramped! It required some tricky dining table manoeuvres. We took one dessert each and paid a total of €70. I couldn't justify spending a tenner for the matcha creme brulee, though. Having said that, we are not totally averse to this place as the food is good but next time we'll just pop over to Murphy's for a 500-ml customised ice cream tub and maybe skip the sake!

Yelp
An authentic Japanese restaurant, in the heart of Temple Bar, but without the typical Temple Bar price tag. A great place to go in couples as its cozy, slightly on the dark side with candlelit tables, giving you privacy even if you are close to another couple. Perfect for a romantic night out! My wife and I went there for my birthday dinner and we were quite amazed at the great service and quality of the food. The salmon was unlike any salmon we had tried before (and we love Japanese food). It was definitely fresh, and I wouldn't have put it behind the chef if he had just fished it minutes earlier. The Banyi Combo was a good choice, but the food was so well prepared that we simply had to order more. To end the night, we didn't skip dessert and boy am I glad we didn't! The Baileys Chocolate Ganache was simply divine! Talk about a mix of flavours in your mouth! Banyi is definitely one of my top 5 restaurants in Dublin for a nice, quiet and romantic night out!

Yelp
After reading the great reviews from the Yelp Foodie Club, I decided to make a trip myself and check it out! Reservations over the phone were friendly and efficient, which flowed through to the service when we arrived. Food was very good - we got the special bento box at €18.90 which includes pork tonkatsu, gyoza with ponzu sauce, sushi, sashimi wakame salad, miso soup and rice. A proper feed! My piggy friend ended up ordering the mango cheesecake which was presented beautifully and tasted great. Asian restaurants tend to not take desserts very seriously so this was a thumbs up for Banyi! Oh - and when making a reservation, ask to be seated upstairs rather than the basement! (and I just realised I ended every paragraph with an exclamation mark) !!!

Yelp
Always good to see more Japanese options in Dublin. And while Temple Bar is a hotbed for overpriced and tasteless muck, Banyi proved to be a pleasant surprise. Meals are tasty and the bento box is great value. The service is very attentive though the bowing isn't that necessary. Desserts are a bit over-priced, so I'd reconsider having them a la carte, but overall a really decent meal.

Yelp
Delicious food and relaxing traditional ambience. Very professional yet friendly service. Definitely a must for fans on Japanese cuisine in Dublin!

Yelp
Knowing that Banyi is celebrating their first anniversary on 9th May. It is only fitting that my friends and I would celebrate Tayo's birthday in here as well. I made a reservation few days in advance, by email to alert them about the birthday plan. They called me 3 hours before the booked time to inform they will give a free dessert for the birthday girl. We ordered the daily bento, sushi boat, tenpanyaki seafood and salmon teriyaki. They were all delicious, fresh and beautifully decorated. The lychee sake mojito is tasty with bits of lychee fruit, even the non-alcoholic version. The waitresses are extremely helpful and patient with our many questions regarding the menus. At the end, we found out they were giving 20% discount on the bills due to their own 1st year anniversary. Definitely my favorite restaurant in Temple Bar and will continue to come here again.

Yelp
Went here recently and the whole experience was perfect. Got the early bird bento for €13.90, which came with a salad, four pieces tempura, katsu, three pieces nigiri, miso and rice. The food was really good and the service amazing. The katsu and tempura were both perfectly fried with that perfect crunch and no sogginess. It was a delight to eat! They had a proper coffee machine so we had coffee, too. It capped off a perfect meal. In addition to the great food, the service was attentive without ever being pushy or cumbersome. This is hard to get right but Banyi does it. Also, I really have to compliment them on the cleanliness of the restaurant, especially the toilets. The toilets are downstairs, just like lots of places in Dublin, so this might be an issue for some. Please check out this jewel of a restaurant.

Yelp
Love their dinner menu, the matcha fondant was absolutely excellent! I will definitely come back again soon.

Yelp
First off...they don't serve tap water. They only offer "Purezza" filtered water for 1.50. The service was mediocre at best and every staff member appeared determined to put on an air of haughty aloofness that wasn't necessary (nor warranted). Coming from California, I may be a bit spoiled with a plethora of fresh, affordable and welcoming sushi spots, so I went in with an open mind. Bottom line? Don't do it! Walk down the street and enjoy your fish fried or grilled the way It should be enjoyed in Ireland! Way over priced for subpar cuisine and rude service.

Yelp
Sushi in Ireland keeps getting better. This place is amazing. Still not LA standard only because it's different - presentation, menu, ingredients etc. E.g. sushi served on a plate with dry ice. Chili powder in spicy rolls instead of jalapeños... which BTW makes the spicy tuna roll the spiciest tuna roll ever! Japanese staff with Japanese etiquette. Love it.
