Bảo Tàng Côn Đảo

The Côn Đảo Museum is very well organized and informative, offering a deep and moving insight into the island’s history. The exhibits are clear, engaging, and thoughtfully presented, making it easy to understand the stories behind this important place. The ticket costs 50,000 VND per visitor and is great value, as it also allows entry on the same day to five prisons and the Governor’s Palace.

Just 50k each, a place to visit "a must place to visit" for all tourists n locals who comes to Con Dao. The Island would not be this, without its history and it should most definately be in everybodys minds. Buy tickets here before going to the prison m tiger Cages. A place to visit dor sure.

Very informative museum of the past. Even though you are not there, the museum tells stories that can make you feel you are there. Anyway, the past does not make anyone heroes or who is right or wrong. It just brings miseries to the present and future generation. Just be compassionate to yourself and everyone, you are a hero. Great little museum - good history of the island, gives a lot of context to other places you will visit. Keep the ticket to use at the nearby prison. Note the lunchtime closing time from 1130-1330!

You could buy a day pass (morning till 5 pm) here for all the prison visits. Got good display. Should visit this museum first for a general understanding of the Con Dao cluster.

As a tourist, you should definitely visit the museum and the prison, not just spend time at the beach. They represent an important part of the island’s history. We recommend starting with the museum, where you can also buy the entrance tickets (50,000 VND per person). The history of the island is explained there with photos and texts in both English and Vietnamese. Right next door, you can then visit the prison complex. It is very impressive and moving. Unfortunately, the information signs inside the prison are only in Vietnamese and not in English. Also make sure to check the opening hours in advance.

This museum is now open again after a period of closure for renovation (as of 15.12.2025). The museum is pretty well curated and paced. It covered a lot of background prior to a visit to the various island prisons. It was curious to see that in a museum that had everything stated in Vietnamese, as you would indeed expect, that the critically important Life magazine article exposing the horrendous Tiger Cages to The West was tucked away in a corner and had no translation into Vietnamese, it was literally the only piece in the whole of the museum which was in English only. Maybe the 'Central Propag. Department' have purposefully done this, but in the context of historical museums it is a huge shame to omit this chance to educate everyone.
