A great place to have a Kölsch (or 10) in Berlin

Well, it’s definitely nice and perhaps one of the hip places. For me, the music was a tad bit too loud. It was difficult having a conversation. Generally, good relaxing vibe though. And unconventionally designed bar area.

This Friday I had one of the most horrible bar experiences of my life. I was there with 2 girlfriends and we all gave money to my partner to get us drinks. We were all standing at the bar and saw the waiter take our money. We ordered 2 apple juices and a small beer and he even gave my partner change back. After giving us the apple juices my partner asked for the beer and the bartender started to yell at him that he didn’t gave any money and that he already gave us the apple juices for free. He was extremely aggressive and telling us to leave the bar. There was no room for us to try to talk to him because he would immediately start to scream at us. We were all shaken up from the situation and felt extremely frustrated that this person was acting this way and basically stealing our money. I can understand it gets stressful on a busy night but this was absolutely out of line. The bartender had long dark hair and a beard. Because of this horrible aggressive character we are not coming back! Also the other bartender did not want to help us. Crazy experience.

Great little place - not overly touristy but welcoming even if you’re not local. Dark and relaxed atmosphere where you can listen to their music as well as have nice conversations. If you don’t like passive smoking then you might not enjoy it but otherwise very enjoyable.

TLDR: Stuck-up bartenders, really smoky. The most “Berlin Mitte” (not in a good way) place I’ve ever visited. They don’t serve cocktails, they serve mixed drinks, shots and beer. Main complaint: Totally hypocritical to have rude service in a historically considered safe-space/artist-haven. Details: Bartender was very patronizing and judgmental to my friend who politely asked if we could pay with card before placing an order. He became irate when they asked “kann man bei ihnen” instead of “kann man bei dir mit karte zahlen” (a bar is a businesses, a group of people, yea? more than the guy serving the drinks, no?). He scoffed and rolled his eyes at them, oh how terrible to have been “sietzt” 😂 then chose to ignore everyone in the friend group until finally one of us had waited for over 15 minutes. Edit: Apparently the guys name is Mark or something…? Ok he was playing music and working by himself, ok maybe he was stressed, but honestly I’ve done his job before. It is not that hard. Wow you hit play on a downtempo HipHop playlist in DE? Not impressive. Final note: The bar has a very limited menu and allows smoking indoors (not untypical for Berlin, but still worth complaining about because it really kills the vibe, is incredibly unhealthy, and also ILLEGAL in Germany). Hope the owners see this and stop allowing smoking indoors, hire at least a bar back so the poor bar tender can chill a bit more and not have to run around picking up empty glasses and bottles. Maybe then he’ll be kinder when someone tries to ask a very normal question.

It’s a place to enjoy vibrant conversations with a creative crowd over a drink or two!

An extremely rude barman caused a scene and started yelling to my friends (some of them German) to go back to their country! Such a toxic behavior is unacceptable.

Yelp
Cheap beers and everyone inside smokes cigarettes. Not great for your sinuses, but hey, when in Berlin. The space itself is pretty cool, with huge windows that wrap around the perimeter. Bartender was nice, and they played good music.

Yelp
Probably the best exemplar for the well known German service, I have never been so humiliated coming into a restaurant!!! Don't know what sad childhood stories are accountable for this attitude, but the hostess at the restaurant really went out of her way to be rude to a Borat level of exaggerationif it wasnt so annoying I would probably find it hilarious. Of course we never stayed in to review the food PS. we solved the problem by walking to the near by, Good morning Vietnam were we enjoyed KIND SERVICE and great food for very reasonable price

Yelp
A cool bar with a cool clientele and many different languages and accents to be heard at any one sitting. It's quite hidden and the fact that one can't see it from the street acts as a filter. There are limited places to sit around the circular bar but you can also perch on the large windowsills. The low-level humdrum of cross-legged conversation creates a pleasant atmosphere which from the outside appears like an Edward Hopper creation. The only downside is the not-so-überfriendly barstaff. Too cool.

Yelp
BEWARE THE WITCH! Wow! I am stunned. Went in there last night after having been to quite a few nice pubs in Berlin. I tried asking a few questions about what beer was on offer, and had the rudest response ever. Even though her whole body language was telling me that she'd rather not have another customer (and it was far from crowded), I really could not believe it at first. But realizing (after a second try at getting some response), that she was maybe the least likeable person I ever have come across in a bar, I dedcided to leave without tasting their beer. They might have a great deal of good beer on offer, but if the one pulling the pints has the personality of a witch, I can only warn you not to go near. There are plenty of good places in Berlin, and life is too short.
