This area of Milan (Brera) was probably my favourite, not more than a 5 minute walk North of the Duomo. If all you love is eating, drinking and shopping (which is pretty much all you can do in Milan) then this is the district you have to try and find.
Brera is a labyrinth of back streets and cobbled roads for you to explore, each one holding its own little secrets. More than once you may find yourself wandering down a familiar main road and suddenly come across a tiny alleyway that you swore wasn't there before. And anywhere you go you'll never be more than 10 feet away from some sort of bar/cafe/restaurant. Bar Brera is just one of them. In truth it's nothing more special than any of the others really. But it's the only name i could remember.
This really is the perfect place to wile away the hours with a few cups of coffee, the occasional pastry or sandwich, and hang around until it becomes ad acceptable time of day to purchase a bottle of local wine (Hell of a lot cheaper than the beer) and then step into a restaurant for a delicious 3 course meal with complimentary aperifs. Try the Milanese risotto. That's a law for any foreigner.
