Google
Cozy place to visit if you’re looking for merienda or picada. They have a variety of food and drinks and our waitress was very sweet. Only minus but very small one is that the space is a little cold, but I didn’t mind very much!

A historic café (bar notable). A beautiful place where it is possible to enjoy a cafecito, a licuado , a limonade or a full meal. The prices are very affordable.

...unbelievably good, simple and full of authentic character. This is what Argentina is all about. Understated charisma...

Lovely early 20th century period café with a strong tradition. Dusty, raw and authentic. Beautiful wooden interiors and shelves with antique bottles and biscuit tins contribute to the moody atmosphere. Great place to people watch, read a book or have a quick bite. I strongly recommend the 'sandwich de pavita': a succulent cold turkey sandwich. One of the few authentic historic bars left in the city.

Another one of my favorite historic places, Bar de Cao has delicious, affordable specials, nice staff and goodies like bread you can buy to take home. Lovely ambiance and usually not too crowded like other historic cafes.

Beautiful bar notable, more authentic then some more noted ones, out of touristic circles, but still close to the center. Easy acces by metro. Nice personnel. Correct coffee y médialunas.

Food was delicious, service on par (we had 30 persons), and the historical atmosphere was warm and inviting. Can't wait to go back

Yelp
We went to Bar de Cao with a friend that lives in BA six months each year, for the last 15 years. She recommended us to go here after watching and dancing tango.... We came Saturday night after watching and dancing tango at parque Patricios, free and for all. They have tango every Saturday afternoon. Go there and then come to Bar de Cao. You will not regret it! Bar de Cao has a long history.... my friend said that this is a great place to enjoy a picada for 2-3 or 4 people, milaneza and beer. The bar is considered an important or notable place in BA. I don't really like picadas... prosciutto, salamis, artichokes, olives etc... I did enjoy it... but picadas is not my favorite food. However, my wife and friend loved it. I loved the good beers they have. If you want to come to a place with porteño flavor... then .... this is the bar you need to visit. Order a picada and a good beer and experience real porteño food flavor.

Yelp
The menu is extensive, and is mostly classic porteño food, from milanesas to an array of turkey sandwiches (a strong tradition historically, that's mostly disappeared). In fact, the latter take up two full pages out of the whopping 24 page menu! I had to hunt for the burger page, which offers up eleven different burgers, albeit that the differences between most of them are nothing more than a list of which toppings you can have on them. Hamburguesa Cao - May as well go for the works and the one the place puts their name on, right? First off, huge burgers. According to the menu, all their burgers weigh in at 300 grams, or nearly an 11 ounce patty! It comes seated on a thick, slightly chewy housemade country bread roll that's perfect for the heft. It has bubbly melted cheese, a strip of roasted red pepper, two thick cut smoky bacon slices, not quite crisp, but well cooked, a runny fried egg, lettuce, tomato, and onion. The burger itself, cooked to about a solid medium, slightly past where I'd have preferred it, but I also forgot to ask for it rarer. It's coarsely ground and well seasoned. It's a brilliant, classic pub burger and although it was a workout to make it through it given the size, I didn't leave a crumb on the plate. The waffle cut potato chips are freshly made. What's not to like? I'll be back to try more of the menu. Fairly priced - 148 pesos for the burger, 38 for the water, 75 for the pint - a total of 261 pesos, or $17 plus tip.
