Do you know when can you eat bones? When it has been cooked in the stew for so long that its calcium breaks down and flavour comes out. This is how I know I have had one of the best stews in my life, not just the best Feijoada. The stew does not cheat - plenty of meat, sausage and beans cooked just to the right texture. The sides were perfect complements to the stew, especially the orange slices with the sauce - yes I ate it that way and saucéed the plate with it. The staff is friendly, attentive and under the classical music backdrop I was losing my mind as I had my meal. Nothing touches the soul of a sick traveller better than such a stew on a rainy day.

Google
Very nice, chilled restaurant if you want something traditional and tasty for lunch. Enjoyed the pork chops with rice and fajolada, which was great. They only had one type of croquettes with beans inside a very little meat, which tasted okay but were not amazing. Would still recommend paying a visit here!

Google
Bar do Mineiro is the perfect stop in Santa Teresa! Everything we order was amazing! We had the Feijoada (delicious!), the porção mista de pastéis, Queijo coalho a milanesa, Frango a passarinha, Feijoada Caldo and Vaca atolada Caldo. Would eat everything again now ;) The service was great, food came out fast and I love the Santa Teresa vibes. We walked from here to Parque das ruínas and to escadaria Selaron. I would recommend ubering as it can be hard finding parking in the area.

The dishes are amazing though I wish the plates would be a little smaller allowing us to sample more. 🍖♥️ I highly recommend to sample a selection of aged cachaça.

We came here two times for lunch. It was crowded but we still could find a cosy seat. The waiter of the Bar do Mineiro are super lovely and always trying to help and understand. The food came fast and was delicious. We ordered two times the feijoada. The first time was outstanding the second time proper. I recommend this place definitely for lunch and early dinner.

Yelp
Wonderful spot to stop by for drinks and / or food in Santa Teresa! Bar do Mineiro was already bookmarked before I visited and was also recommended by a guide or two from previous days of exploring in RJ. I was unaware / distracted when I had walked past it one day when I was with a tour group. We had pão de queijo at the little shack across the street. When I was back in Santa Teresa on my final day in RJ, I knew I had to make it here! I was there for a late lunch / early dinner. It was not packed like it shows in some of the Yelp fotos which was actually nice for me. That meant no wait to be seated. I had a lovely view facing the outside - I love the restaurant's decor as everywhere you looked, there was something unique and interesting to see and having the giant open windows / doors at the front provide a nice outside-in atmosphere. From the tables, to the items on the tables - love the vibe. What I ordered: - Pastels (the ones I saw in everyone's fotos on Yelp - I wasn't sure which ones they were on the menu, but I pointed them out to my waiter. He said it usually comes in many pieces and because I was alone, he could do fewer pieces for me I think). ***these are a MUST! my favorite thing I ate here*** - Feijoada (again, because I was dining alone, the feijoada for 1 would have been too much food for me if I had that AND the pasteis - my waiter made me a smaller portion where it all came on one plata). Still sooo much food, haha. I tried my best to eat everything before I left, but eventually had to ask for a togo container (they placed my food in this lovely bag with the restaurants name and logo and I was able to enjoy this later that evening). It was good, but I think the first time I try something in Brazil it has alway been the best (this was my 2nd time trying feijoada, still really good!) - Colorado Appia cerveja (this has to be my favorite beer in Brazil!) I found out that I had snatched the last bottle of the day. I really would have wanted to try a lot more things but alas, one of the cons of going out alone... I guess I could have ordered another thing togo since I had a leftovers bag. During the time I was there, I really liked my waiter as he did help me a lot with knowing what I wanted to order. He knew a little English as well so that was awesome. I ended up chatting and meeting the owner and this lady who I think was maybe his wife or really good friend unknowingly as they sat at the two-person table next to mine. The lady was very welcoming and chatted with me a little - asked me where I was from. The owner who is this really cute older man was just so humble and you can really tell a lot of friends go to visit and support his business. As I was about to head out to do more exploring, there was another solo traveler who had came in minutes before, later moved tables to sit closer to mine as it was easier to chat vs. from across the pathway. He had ordered something similar to me I think but it looked like more food... it may have been frango with a side of feijoada? Looked great! All in all, absolute fantastic time here! Will definitely come back here and hopefully I'll have a bigger party so I can try more items off the menu, haha. On my way out, I asked the owner if I could take a foto with him and he said he was okay with it! :] Thank you for existing, Bar do Mineiro!

Yelp

Yelp
Nice option in Santa Teresa for a quick bite and a few beers. Located in a great area to bar hop. It's small and crowded when we are there with great vibes, energetic noise levels, and the coldest beer we'd have in Rio. The feijoada for one was plenty for 2. It was tasty, very meaty, and smoky definitely with a home cooked flavor.

Yelp
Perfect for brunch! They lost a star because we called ahead for our large group to reserve a table and still had to wait an hour. We walked around the street and checked out the vendors and street art while we waited. The open air environment is great for people watching and loud groups like ours. We all ordered caiperinhas and pasties. Delicious! I'm pretty sure we all had at least two drinks.... The food was delicious! My tutua de mineiro was delivered and I had no idea it would be pork chops. Lol. I just ordered off the specials board. Best I'd had in years. Juicy and flavorful. The mashed black beans were very garlicky and perfect for keeping the bugs away. The kale was lightly seasoned, crisp, and easily chewed. They have a few servers who know a little English if you are void of conversational Portuguese, but it easy to just point at the menu and go.

Yelp
Whilst waiting for a seat on Saturday or Sunday at lunch - and you will wait - order a caipirinha (and possibly an order of pasteis). Consider the hanging out part before you get a table a piece of the experience. Trust me, plenty of others will be drinking, chatting and snacking in the street in front of Bar do Mineiro with you. Most come here for the feijoada and you should too!

Yelp
This was recommended to me by many locals in this area. You will pass the famous Selaron Steps on your way here and will have to walk about 7min from the steps (good exercise before you pig out) Once you get there you will see a lively atmosphere. People outside drinking beer and socializing. Right near it there is a small little bakery that sells the best Pao de Queijo (cheesebread) that you will have ever tasted. I recommend getting it as an app after putting your name down on the list for Bar do Mineiro. It is popular it is packed with locals, so may have to wait, we didnt wait long and just ordered some beers while we waited (you can drink outside in Brazil). The food was absolutley deliicious and plentiful. I got some Feijoada (famous Brazilian Dish) beans mixed with beef over white rice and garlic. Delicous! Everything else we got was delicious as well. My friend wanted to americanize the meal and ordered fries. Don't order them they were ok and they have so many much better side orders than fries. It came out to about $10-$12 US a steal for the amount of food you get. Totally Recommend!!

Yelp
Great feijoada spot! I like that you can order in various sizes depending on your group/appetite, and even the starting size is a generous helping. The hearty bean-pork-sausage stew comes with a fatty toasted cassava flour (farofa), stewed kale, and orange slices. We had a vegetarian in our group who enjoyed the meatless version, which came with stewed kale & smashed pumpkin. Yum! You can tell they cater to tourists visiting Santa Teresa: the menu has English subtitles and the staff was patient with our limited Portuguese and wild gesticulating.

Yelp
Delicious. Lovely eclectic decor & neighborhood ambiance. Friendly service. We ordered the feijoada, the oxtail, and the fried fish. Feijoada came with the usual greens, farofa, and rice--but it was all so much better than what I've had at other places. Waiter cut the fish open for us & moved the bones. Oxtail was tender, juicy, and had lovely potatoes & polenta in it...the broth was yummy and fatty. This place is a must if you're in Santa Teresa!!

Yelp
The Feijoada was okay. I may not have enough samples of this dish elsewhere to know if this was great or not but I just didn't think it came together. It was definitely plentiful in terms of serving size. The caipirinhas was well done here though. The place was pretty empty at about 12pm but it gets completely full around 3pm. It seems like a nice neighborhood joint more for beer and small snacks. Server was friendly and English friendly.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came to Bar do Mineirohoje for an early dinner on Sunday afternoon. I read a review about this restaurant having the best feijoada in town and decided to check it out. It was much less crowded then I was expecting for a Sunday afternoon and we were seated right away. We started off with lemon Caipirinhas (R$12 each) that were the worst that I've had in Brazil. They were pretty bad, not going to lie. The Cachaça that they use in the Caipirinhas is probably poor in quality and therefore has an icky and watered down taste. But the feijoada was great! Bar do Mineiro is known for their feijoada ($84/for 2 people) and it deserves all of its recognition. The feijoada came out about 15 minutes after we had ordered. We were served a small plate of rice (which could have been bigger for 2 people but we made it work), a plate of collard green and farofa, a cup of diced oranges and an aromatic pot of black bean stew with a number of different meats. Our favorite meat was the sausage. Delicious! Overall I would come back to Bar do Mineiro for their feijoada (delicious) but not necessarily for the caipirinhas.

Yelp
I asked to be brought to a place where locals find feijoada to be great. This is of course not my first time eating feijoada, but I can safely say that I was never a big fan of it. So I wanted to try what locals would deem good, to make a final decision on whether I really am a fan or otherwise of this local dish. Though slighter saltier than what I am use to, this must have been one of the better feijoada that I have had :) and they had feijoada pastels! Which I highly recommend to anyone who has not tried it before. Eat it when it's nice and hot! I was lucky enough to be with people who were use to going and brought me there before the crowd came in. Had a great table and avoided any waiting. So if you have the choice, go early! I walked pass that place later part of the afternoon and it was pack with people! And there were people waiting outside too!

Yelp
Great feijoada with smokey and chunky meats and sausages. It has a good flavor and the accompanying sides were excellent. Do I think it's the best feijoada? I don't know if it justifies the price and I'm not much of a black beans stew eater. Would I bring a tourist or eat here again specifically for a feijoada? I might - especially since I loved the Santa Teresa neighborhood. The feijoada was surprisingly served with oranges, which provided a nice refreshing taste to the palate.

Yelp
Deep in the hills in Lapa but worth it! Food is tasty delicious and typical but cheap service was good and bar/restaurant was cool open floor pan near local bars I recommend to try it out mi gente

Yelp
Feijoada the brazilian national dish. I had to eat it and I had to sample it somewhere authentic. I asked around for tips from the locals and all roads pointed to bar mineiro. We had planned to head to Santa Teresa on our last day and had ear marked some time for the feijoada. A pork and bean stew served with kale, rice and the traditional yuka flour. Climbing up the hill to get to Santa Teresa we were spellbound by the street art and artists studios. Most of the restaurants were fairly empty until we hit bar mineiro. The place was bustling with hungry cariocas and tourists alike queuing for the famous feijoada. My two travel companions ... Not the most adventurous with food were a bit sceptical so they asked me to order some snacks as well in case they didn't like the feijoada. At the end of the meal the feijoada had vanished and the both wished we'd ordered more. The proprietor was very helpful and found us a seat without a wait as we had only a short time before our flight. Great experience only wish I could have eaten there again.

Yelp
Delicious feijoada! I kept finding all these suggestions to go to Casa de Feijoada while in Rio, but I don't know...it just sounded like a tourist trap (maybe I'm wrong?). I'm glad hubs and I opted to go here, though, because it feels a bit more laid back and authentic, and the Santa Teresa neighborhood (where Bar do Mineira is located) was very eclectic, artsy and beautiful. Their caipirinha was great as well, so go ahead--do the "tourist thing" and get the feijoada and a caipirinha, because it's a great combination and really good here!

Yelp
Really good brazilian food with a couple of vegetarian and vegan options. We chose a plate to share with mashed pumpkin (so good!), soy mince, fried kale, couscous and black beans. Everything was really good and well put together. It's a cool place with old interior details.

Yelp
Where do all the hip and hungry locals head for a plate of no-frills feijoada? Santa Teresa's Bar Do Mineiro. The neighborhood itself is picturesque and amid the line of cool and cultural shops, you'll find this boteco darling playing host to a throng of pessoas willingly waiting for their taste of honest-to-goodness grub. So while there may be a wait, it's perfectly normal and worth it. In the meanwhile, you can head to the bar area and order a caipirinha or beer to tide you over. There's also the pastels (fried snacks) that'll come out sooner than you table is ready. Those you can order in advance as well. Once seated (about 45 minutes later), the 3 of us split feijoada for 2 and found the portions to be plenty. You'll get a hearty black bean stew with chunks of pork and carne seca, a large plate of white rice, farofa with pork rinds and a a pile of shredded collard greens cooked to perfection. For those who enjoy off-the-beaten-path type restaurants, this one is a winner.

Yelp
Feijoada is apparently a must in Brazil so we really wanted to try this new dish. Problem is: when it's 40 degrees outside, you don't really feel like eating the local version of goulash (lots of different meats, a huge quantity of hot sauce, tons of beans...). Not my taste. Too much for lunch considering the climate. But the place is cute. And at night it looks even better. It was packed when we passed by at 8 PM. Perfect for a beer if you want to have a drink :)
google avatar

Yelp
Order the feijoada! Everyone else recommends it and so do I! The pasteles are good but the feijoada is amazing! With the feijoada - if there are only two of you, only order for one because the portions are massive. The caipirinha especial is also amazing. My partner and I each ordered a second and probably didn't need it.

Yelp
Just been there yesterday. The pumpkin and jerked beef empanadas is amazing. You should also try the feijoada if you're going on Saturdays. Get there early around noon because the place gets very busy. This place is very hot and the temperature inside get to be unpleasant particular during the 45C summers in Rio. Wished they could install better fans or A/C. Mineiro is a traditional bar now in Santa Teresa but not my favorite. Worth going there though. No Chopp here, just normal bottled beer.

Yelp
This place is crowded for a reason. Our tour guide took us here for some traditional Brazilian food. She said that she went the other day a sat next to Kate Moss, so of course we had to see what all the hype was about. We had to wait 10min for a seat, but they served us drinks and appetizers on the street, so no complaints. The owner greeted us and was so nice. Told us how much he liked NYC, and showed off his write up in the book "Where Chef's Eat". But if anything, come here for the food. The bean and pork stew was our favorite meal in Brazil. I never knew rice and beans could be so delicious and filling.

Max M.

Yelp
It was the best feijoada I have ever had. Went there on Saturday by 3. We had to wait at least 45 minutes to get a table, but it was great. Feijoada was amazing as well as the rice and vegetables. Even dessert was great. Price? 120 reals for three people with beer and dessert. (Based on their web page, the prices went up because of the World Cup) If you are coming by car, there's parking available next to the place.
google avatar

Rhea L.

Yelp
Enjoyed our meal and experienced delicious, homemade Brazilian cuisine. I recommend trying the feijoada and the Mineiro light.
google avatar

Andrea W.

Yelp
We passed a few places before picking this one and chose it because it was PACKED! And for good reason! The fried pork ribs were delicious but I swear I could've made a meal of the rice and black beans alone! We ordered the assorted pasteries (tiny savory pastry pockets) then the main course and had about three beer a piece and it was very affordable! It's crowded but doesn't feel like it even on a super hot day. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Yelp
Love, Love this place! Local food and sooo worth it! Be prepared to wait up to an hour for a table but drinks came be served in the street as well as tapas style foods. I highly recommend the beef, black bean & rice dish... Amazing!!
google avatar

Nell J.

Yelp
This is my favorite bar/restaurant in Rio. Best Feijoada ever, and the bolinhos de feijao are brilliant too. Honestly, just a great place to just hang around all night. Locals come here a lot and people tend to crowd outside in a very social way. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch during a visit to the Santa Teresa neighbourhood on a lovely Thursday afternoon. It's located just up the road from the tram stop in the main square, and is a charming spot that is very welcoming. We ordered a feijiada complete for three, and a feijoão tropeiro for the four of us to share. When they arrived we realised we would have been fine with a feijoada for two, since portions are large. However the food was excellent, and we came very close to finishing it all (and certainly wanted to). Prices are ok and they accept cards and offer free wifi.

Yelp
I love feijoada and this place is known for it. Is it worth going out of the way for it? For me, no. If you have some friends visiting then you can kill two birds with one stone by offering them classic Brazilian food in a unique neighborhood. The place itself is a hole in the wall and service is fine. I think the feijoada at Informal is just as good and offers just as good or better atmosphere and more convenient locations so I always go there instead...except when friends come into town.

Yelp
When you go to this place, you can feel the real spirit of Santa Teresa, one of the cutests neighbors in Rio. It's all about drink beer on the street and eat in a simple place, but with really good food. Obviously, if you go there, you are asking for the "feijoada", that made this place so famous.
