Where to Go for a Less-Crowded East Coast Summer Vacation

"One of the few towns on the East Coast with a beach and ski mountain 10 minutes apart from one another, Camden’s town slogan is “where the mountains meet the sea.” That means you can go for a hike in Camden Hills State Park and end the day with a sunset swim (with both saltwater and freshwater beach options). When you’ve had your fill of the natural world, Camden’s charming downtown strip scenically located along the harbor is home to some seriously good eats, fun shops, and cool art galleries: grab breakfast at the cozy Zoot Coffee and dinner at local establishment Long Grain for deliciously fresh Asian cuisine. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Camden does attract a fair amount of summer traffic; the adjacent fishing village of Rockport offers a more laid-back, less-touristy feel. While it’s definitely worth its own trip, Camden also makes for an ideal pit stop between Portland and Bar Harbor if you’re heading to Acadia National Park this summer. Book a stay at the Camden Harbour Inn Browse more Camden hotels" - Hannah Towey

We were in Bar Harbor in May for my granddaughter's wedding at Acadia National Park. Our stay was absolutely amazing. From the moment we walked into the beautiful lobby and received a fantastic greeting from the exceptional staff, we knew we had chosen the right place for a five-night stay. Breakfast is amazing. The location is perfect. The room was spacious and beautifully decorated. Absolutely would recommend the Bar Harbor Grand to anyone traveling to Bar Harbor.

I’ve visited Bar Harbor several times in the past and I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for the first time August of 2025. We occupied room 401. Our family of two adults and two teenagers had plenty of space in the two bedroom suite. The bathroom was the cleanest bathroom I’ve ever experienced at any hotel ever, I’m not exaggerating! Breakfast is listed as a continental breakfast but it’s got a couple hot items that satisfy everyone. The vibe the hotel aims for is that of a time gone by and they succeed. The pool and hot tub were welcome on such unseasonably warm days . I would not hesitate to book this hotel on my next Bar Harbor visit.

We visited Bar Harbor right after July 4th to celebrate a big birthday. The Grand was incredible! They decorated our room with towel swans and left a gift and a lovely card. It was a wonderful surprise and a beautiful touch. The staff was friendly and helpful, from a warm greeting when we arrived (with a map orientation and helpful tips) to helping me find the right tea at breakfast. The room was large and well done. The bed was comfortable and we loved eating breakfast on the front porch after returning from sunrise in Acadia.

What a wonderful place to stay in Bar Harbor! The hotel goes above and beyond to make sure guests are comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, a trail mix bar for our morning hike, water and popcorn were nice touches - the kids and adults were very happy! Our room was comfortable and spacious. The location is perfectly central to downtown Bar Harbor and the entrance to Acadia. If we make it back to Bar Harbor, the Bar Harbor Grand Hotel would be our first choice of places to stay!

Google
Highly recommended. Super location with easy access to Main Street with restaurants, nice shops, and the shoreline walkway. Love the attention to detail for a wonderful experience. Examples are included in the photos - nice electrical covers in the rooms, naturally flavored water in the lobby, Starbucks coffee in the room, and much more. Nice clean, spacious rooms. The included breakfast has many options that are well prepared. Heated swimming pool. The staff is friendly and helpful. Plenty of free parking behind the hotel) street parking is metered.

Google
The Grand Hotel was ideally situated, and we were delighted to discover its proximity to the town and several locations on our itinerary. The hotel staff were exceptionally helpful and welcoming. I particularly appreciated the design and interior, with its thoughtful touches that created a sense of home. The breakfast was enjoyable, and I especially loved the refreshing fruit-infused water provided throughout the day. The free parking was another convenient aspect of our stay.

Google
This was a great hotel choice for visiting Bar Harbor. We were able to park our car for the week and walk to all the downtown destinations. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful, the rooms were clean, and the little amenities (taffy at the desk, coffee all day, lemon water on tap, etc.) were icing on the cake! The breakfast was delicious and the blankets provided for sitting on the porch in the rocking chairs were a great touch. Highly recommended.

Google
Best Hotel Breakfast I've ever had! They had various stations to choose from - coffee station (hot and cold brew) yogurt bowl station, breads/toasts, fresh fruits, fruit juice, eggs (hard boiled and omelettes) bacon, French toast, cold cuts, pastries, oatmeal station - LOTS to choose from! The breakfast staff was super friendly and attentive! My favorite part of the stay was access to this breakfast before a long day of exploring Acadia!

Yelp
This hotel is definitely worth the price. Location, location, location!!!! You park in their lot with a pass and can walk all over Bar Harbor without the hassle of parking. The check in experience was great, with friendly workers. Our room was ready and was extremely nice. There was lots of room and the bed was comfortable. We did struggle with getting the air conditioning right, as it's right above the bed and blows on you. The swimming pool was a nice treat and speaking of treats, they always sit out something in the afternoon. The front porch with the rocking chairs was super enjoyable for early morning and late evening. The breakfast is really nice with fresh fruits, pastries, etc. I would highly recommend staying here.

Yelp
I was hesitant to book here because there weren't many reviews, however I'm so glad I did! We really enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were very clean and cozy. Beds are very comfortable. The continental breakfast every morning was much better than chain hotels and the staff was very friendly. We enjoyed the infused water available at all times and the little treats they put out for guests. The location was great. Plenty of restaurants and shops in walking distance and only a short walk to the waterfront.

Natascha D.

Yelp
A very warm and classically designed hotel. Neil made check-in after a 12 hour drive amazing. His kind demeanor was greatly appreciated. Check out was easy and quick thanks to Alecia. My only complaint was the shower. I think that my room was handicap-accessible, which may explain the design of the shower. When the shower was in use, the water leaked out onto the bathroom floor.

Yelp
My cousin and I decided to last minute book this hotel for a night stay because we wanted to drive in from Portland to check out Acadia national park for a day - the best idea!! We arrived around 8pm to check in and the guy at the front desk was so nice and helpful in planning out our trip from catching the sunrise, figuring out where we should grab a late dinner, and things to check out the following the day. As soon as we got in the room, I was like wait I haven't been to a hotel this clean in a little while and everything about it had these charming little details throughout the room and property. The beds were so comfortable and we loved that there was free parking. It's in an amazing location where you can walk all over Bar Harbor and about 10-15 minute drive from Acadia. Also who doesn't love a free breakfast? They had a variety of options to choose from and it ended up being great to grab in between catching the sunrise and heading out for a few more trails before checking out. I'm definitely coming back here with family in the future.

Yelp
A hotel with character and it's located right on Main St. I mean, how cool is it that you get to stay in an older but clean hotel that's surrounded by restaurants and shops. The rooms look exactly like what's depicted on their website. I booked my room through Hotels.com and got a ridiculously affordable rate and it comes with breakfast! With that said, there are quite a few Inns and Bed and Breakfast around the area so you definitely have a lot to pick from. This just happened to draw my attention because of its look, price and location.

Yelp
Good memories from our stay at Bar Harbor Grand, so here's the gist of it: Ran my first marathon and was footsteps from the start line, an amazing location, private parking lot, gigantic complimentary breakfast, very comfortable beds, and a friendly staff. We were off to a rocky start when they didn't have the requested crib in the room, but it was all quickly remedied, and everything was smooth sailing from there. I loved how clean and nice everything was, but more than anything, the location was the best part for sure. Prices weren't too bad on a busy fall weekend either. The breakfast was nice with fruit, oatmeal out of a crock pot, danishes, good coffee, and even some eggs and other things you wouldn't necessarily expect. Would definitely recommend this spot in Bar Harbor, and you're very close to Acadia as well by car.

Yelp
This is a great hotel, especially for families. The convenience for downtown fun is great. The pool and hot tub are a huge bonus. The breakfast was good. Love the fruit and yogurt options. Maybe consider adding another hot option. The gym is lacking but it's enough to get a quick workout in. The service was great. Everyone is very friendly. I would definitely consider again.

Yelp
Great staff, location, breakfast, rooms, room and hotel appointments. It's modeled to be like an old historic hotel however it's modern. The bathrooms were excellent! The beds were excellent. The whole hotel was very clean. I don't impress easy. The free breakfast was probably best I've had at a hotel. Eggs, sausages, fruit. All great. They had some cider donuts that were phenomenal and were def not from a chain. They had cereal and other foods added well but that's just what I had. Had a view of Cadillac mountain in distance from my room. The pool wasn't open yet but it looked nice. The fitness center is the only area I would say this place was lacking in but there is one there and it has some free weights that don't go up very high in weight and a treadmill. Better than nothing but nothing I could do Anything with. There is a laundry room downstairs as well which is nice. To me the location is excellent. It's literally 5-7 minutes to the water walking. It's a bit quieter where it is and it's great because you can relax. The town is a college town and there is the occasional drunk douche bags yelling out near the water in hotels off balconies so this is more quiet, family friendly for sure. If you cant literally walk 5 minutes you probably better staying in town more. But this place has charm, it's clean, great staff , food. I like to find things wrong with places, it's my super power. I def recommend this place unless you have to be on the water in the middle of chaos.

Yelp
This hotel is our favorite hotel in Bar Harbor. Downtown, easy to walk to the shoreline, restaurants, and they offer lovely rooms with really comfortable beds and amenities. The service is friendly and attentive, and they offer a nice breakfast with many choices, that our entire family enjoyed last week. The pool was a bit hit with the children as it can get warm in the summer. Huge pool towels too. Very close to Acadia National Park (15 min). We will be back again next year. Thank you again. Thanks Sandra for taking such good care of our rooms too! Such a nice woman.
google avatar

Yelp
A nice hotel right in Bar Harbor. The room is very nicely sized and the hotel is both close to the center of town and provides parking. The staff at check in were cheerful and helpful. They provide a free breakfast in the lobby with eggs and sausage, cereal, fruit and pastries. Something for everyone. Not a gourmands delight but a good and convenient way to start the day.

Yelp
Arrived to enjoy the first opening night of the season with this hotel exceeding all expectations! The hospitality and unique comfort measures are beyond the usual. The 2 bedroom suite is huge accommodating a 5 sister's trip to the gorgeous Bar Harbor with a spacious grand restroom and 3 queen beds. From associates (desk staff, fully stocked & hand-prepared hot/ cold complimentary breakfast served graciously by Lori and on-site managers Neil & Janine) all went out of their way to make us feel at home with all the amenities. Great value!

Yelp
A wonderful experience. We spent three nights in this very comfortable hotel. Room was clean, bed very comfortable, nice hot shower, great complimentary breakfast, and a very nice staff. We found it to be the perfect location as well. We will definitely stay here on our next visit to Bar Harbor l!
google avatar

Yelp
Stayed here for two nights and paid the extra for the two queen bed room and single side room with a queen bed. The extra cost coupled with the amazing "extended continental breakfast" which is code legit morning breakfast was worth every penny. The thread count on the sheets is unreal. Very soft and probably worth more than my own home sheets. The room is very clean and has pretty much everything any other major hotel chain would have (fridge, microwave, etc). I will be coming back here in a heartbeat. It's a shame I only found out about this now. The pool is small but nice, with just the right amount of room for small children to play. The location of the hotel is perfect. if you walk down main street to the end and take the shore path, the end will take you pretty much back to where the hotel is. The staff here is incredibly nice and friendly and was willing to help with anything we needed. Again, I can't stress how nice it was to stay at conveniently located hotel that has an amazing breakfast (probably $15/person value added to the stay). I don't need to try out any other hotels in future trips.

Yelp
This is the best hotel I've stayed in since covid. When we arrived they gave my son a free stuffed animal soft deer, he loved it! The room is nice, spacious, as well as the bathroom. I love eucalyptus and they have all B&B works stress relief in the bathroom. They also include a small sanitizer for you. There were lightbulbs out in the bathroom and they came up and fixed them within five minutes. I needed toothpaste and they asked if I minded if they brought it up to the room to me! What service. We came back the second day and housekeeping had been in, I was not expecting this, as since covid I haven't seen housekeeping. It was a splendid surprise. They gave another sanitizer in the bathroom to take and they left a nice handwritten note on the hotel paper pad. The breakfast options are mostly to go items but a great array and so many options. Being gluten free, I was very happy to see a few gluten free options too! They also have coffee available 24/7.

Yelp
Cute little inn style hotel. Darling desk ladies. And the most comfy beds and sheets. The toiletries are bath and body works, and cleaning staff was attentive. The breakfast room was a full house! Great blueberry muffin, eggs, bacon, etc. (Didn't like the coffee, but there are a couple great places across the street!
google avatar

Yelp
Would definitely stay here again! Our room was very clean & spacious! Everything was clean actually to the point that I had to complement the staff. Breakfast was great and we all enjoyed the refreshing fruit water throughout the day.The staff was super friendly helpful and fun to talk to!

Yelp
We went to the Acadia National Park. 6 miles away. Right on Main Street. Everything is close. The service is great. The breakfast is free and fabulous. It's expensive during peak times, but it's a pretty nice place. I liked the porch. Rocking chairs and an inn table to put your beverages on. I loved it. Food in the area is expensive and every food establishment has to have lobster on the menu. The going price for a lobster dish was $29. They even had lobster ice cream. The price for our room with taxes was $336 per night. Pricey, but a nice place to visit.

Yelp
This hotel is nicely maintained, clean, and a great location. We have been staying here for years when we go to Bar Harbor and we have found it to be consistently good.

Yelp
Really friendly staff, very welcoming environment, and prime location!! I also appreciated how thoughtful the front desk was.

Monica K.

Yelp
My family and I had the pleasure of staying at the Bar Harbor Grand Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The hotel was clean, decorated nicely and was so conveniently located. We easily walked to shops, restaurants and down to the harbor. Most importantly, the staff at the Bar Harbor Grand Hotel was helpful, knowledgeable about the area and very friendly. Breakfast was delicious each morning and we especially appreciated the service of Sam each morning as we enjoyed our meal. She was friendly and helpful, kept everything spotless (even during the busiest breakfast times), and never rushed us. I would happily and whole heartedly recommend this hotel to anyone asking where to stay in Bar Harbor.
google avatar

Yelp
theres is nothing grand about this hotel, its old, the walls are thin the bed and pillows are god awful and old and the wifi is 1-2 MB at $240 a night that is a rip off. For breakfast we had blueberries in a plastic ketchup container. I don't recommend this hotel at all. There's better bed and breakfasts in the area
google avatar

Yelp
We stayed 7 nights for a family reunion of sorts. We had to change our reservation a few times and they were lovely about it. The rooms are nicely appointed with comfy beds and a King suite was large with a comfortable chair and plenty of closet and bureau space. The heating/cooling system works great and there is a fridge. The room and the public spaces were clean and pleasant. The breakfast was fine, not fancy but completely acceptable if you are not looking for "great" with eggs, potatoes, and bacon each morning, muffins, yogurt etc. The location is great, at the opposite end of Main street from the water so a great place to start and end your walk in town. There is a great front porch with rocking chairs, great for a glass of wine! The pool was small but a nice pace for a quick dip. Rates were very reasonable and the staff were great. We would definitely return!
google avatar

Yelp
First trip to Bar Harbor and we stayed here after reading some of the reviews. I would/will stay here on my next trip. Hotel is located right in the hub of everything but still quiet. The room was massive and we had a view of Main St. Loved the breakfast which provided a variety and was nicely done every morning. Room was clean and maid service was great. No elevator in the North wing but we are in our 30's so it was no bother at all (only 3 floors) Parking is easy with the lot right behind the hotel. We did laundry here as well since we were doing a multiple day trip and the washers and dryers did great. Coffee provided all day (Keurig) and there is even a microwave in the breakfast area that I'm sure staff would allow you to use. There are even rocking chairs in the front where you can sit and have your coffee while watching the crowds. Internet was fast and reliable. There is a heated pool as well that some people were using but we are from the south and it was just too cold to try that out. Honestly, I can't think of one negative to say. We will be back and be bringing friends with us!

Char M.

Yelp
Lovely old grand hotel. The staff was delightful and helpful. Very clean and Victorian.

Jennifer L.

Yelp
We had a pleasant time here with clean rooms and excellent staff who made us feel at home! Thank you to Jared who checked us in and out, Neil and Michael who lent us nice wine glasses to enjoy out on the front porch, Lori, who ensured breakfast, and Karen. We can't wait to go back!! Bar Harbor, ME is such a beautiful place!!
google avatar

Teresa L.

Yelp
This is a nice hotel with spacious rooms, beautiful light fixtures and a large bathroom with a large vanity. Breakfast is free, but it is basically sweet stuff - waffles, cereal, oat meal and muffins. The did have some obviously little omelets filled with American cheese that were obviously pre-packaged. That is what I ate, since it was a source of protein. I was able to choke two of them down. This hotel is located in the center of Bar Harbor. There are many shops and restaurants in the area, but at least half of them are closed now in mid November. The hotel is located just outside of the Acadia National Forest, which is the reason we visited Bar Harbor. Cadillac mountain is amazing beautiful. The main road travels around the Atlantic Coast in most places with many hiking trails and scenic stops. The Bar Harbor Grand Hotel is the perfect place to stay if you plan to visit Acadia.
google avatar

Patricia T.

Yelp
Great hotel in a fantastic location. Within walking distance to the waterfront as well as numerous shops and restaurants. Only 1.5 miles to entrance of Acadia Nat'l Park. Hotel offers free parking, free wi-fi and complimentary breakfast for guests. The rooms are clean, spacious & well- appointed.
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
Good location, friendly staff. Good continental breakfast. We left some items in the room and they were kind enough to mail them to us. That was much appreciated. Curiously we had no curtains in our 4th floor room. This seemed a bit of a surprise to the front deck when brought up at checkout. I would stay here again.

Yelp
Forgot to post this from our visit back in October... The hotel is perfectly located in the center of Bar Harbor and it's walking distance from anywhere in town and it's just a few minutes from the entrance to the Acadia National Park loop road. It is rather big, offering many amenities and accessory services (although we didn't get the chance to try any since we stayed only one night). It comes also with a complimentary breakfast, but the selection at the buffet seemed to be very limited so we decided to skip it and find some nice slice of blueberry pie in town. Room was huge, clean and comfortable... we just had some issues with sleep quality since there was something outside of our room doing intermittent noises (something like a loud beep) every now and then during the night (we were located in room 101, conveniently located at ground floor right behind the reception desk with a view on the parking lot). So just in case, ask for a higher floor room if possible (again, not sure what was the source of the noise but it was definitely annoying).
google avatar

Paula B.

Yelp
This hotel is centrally located and has a parking lot. It was a short walk to downtown Bar Harbor's stores and restaurants. There is a small workout room and laundry room in the basement. There is also an outdoor pool. The rooms are modern and clean. Breakfast is included and in addition to the usual complimentary breakfast items, there is french toast and waffles that you just heat up in the toaster, hard boiled eggs, and yogurt. Yum! Nice visit. quiet and slept comfortably.
google avatar

Yelp
This was our first time with this hotel and chose it for its more affordable pricing during peak season. The front desk staff was always kind and helpful. As we were checking in my 4 year old was cranky after a long ride and one staff member met us in the parking lot and gave him a stuffed seal, which was a great gesture! We stayed in a spacious double queen, equipped with a small fridge a nice TV and DVD player. The bathroom was spacious and complimentary brand products were available for use. The beds were very comfortable and we had plenty of room for a pack and play for our infant. There is a big beautiful porch with chairs to sit on, though no private balconies. Breakfast is included and there is a nice array to choose from including fruits, breads, cereal or yogurt and eggs with sausage or bacon, depending on the day. The pool seems larger in photos, but it's a nice enough. One draw back was only having 1 elevator for use. There were times we were left waiting a good while to get to our room. The hotel is a few blocks away from the ocean, but within walking distance, with a lot of great restaurants and shopping close.

Yelp
We needed to escape New York in July of coronavirus. We could not have picked a better spot and we were flying blind

Yelp
My wife and I stayed here this June . We found the hotel's interior modern, the room and bath spacious and extremely comfortable. Breakfast was very adequate, with the only drawback that there was no kitchen to cook eggs (which. we easily survived). If not for that minor flaw, I would have given it five stars. I am partially handicapped, and the facilities were excellent for that. The front desk staff excelled. My only problem was that I made my reservation through Orbitz!!! They charged me about $11.00 more a night for the room, plus "taxes and FEES, so that their "discount price" was actually significantly more than I would have paid had I called the hotel directly. I will definitely stay at this hotel again. Thank you Bar Harbor Grand Hotel for a great experience.
google avatar

Mark C.

Yelp
I am staying here with my wife. Great price for the accommodations and great value. The best part was the morning continental breakfast! So many great choices and options! Would definitely recommend this hotel to someone staying in bar harbor. Check out the breakfast!

Yelp
This hotel gets a 5 plus review from me! My husband had to have emergency surgery at MDI and this hotel was the closest to the hospital. I had to have a room immediately as this was an emergency, and they gave me the last room they had and gave me another room for the next night when my husband was discharged from the hospital. They treated us like family and went above and beyond the call of duty. They made sure my husband was comfortable. I could not have asked for a better place to stay. Looking forward to coming back when we can actually enjoy the stay in Bar Harbor!

Yelp
SNAIL PACE WIFI: GRAND HOTEL The hotel was not ready for me, even though I had registered online two night before and had a reservation confirmation on my iPhone. The TweedleDee manager was condescending and obsequious at the same time. The accommodations, despite the hoighty-toighty names are Holiday Inn du jour. We bought a package and discovered that the fancy included dinner was a half-mile away at their sister hotel. No transportation was offered. The dinner at the sister hotel, The Bar Harbor Inn & Spa, was delicious and an awesome deal.

Yelp
The staff made our weekend wedding an amazing experience. We worked mainly with Norman and Dennis who made sure we and our guests were taken care of in all instances. We had ten rooms and every group was pleased with their experience. The continental breakfast is one of the nicest we have experienced. If you are coming to Bar Harbor, you can't eat the location or the staff. This is your place.
google avatar

Bobby C.

Yelp
Love the hotel! My girlfriend and I stayed here for a wedding. It has a decent sized parking lot and the rooms are clean. Bathroom was pretty spacious. One somewhat neat thing was the use of shampoo and soap dispensers in the shower. Something you don't normally see at hotels. There are also washers and dryers in the basement. You can walk to anything in Bar Harbor. If you go in the other direction for a mile, you can go hiking. Only negative things are that it may be a tad pricey for some but for the cleanliness and service, I don't mind at all. There is no person at the front desk after a certain time, by that I mean like after midnight or so. I would definitely stay here again.

David S.

Yelp
Fantastic location. Nice people. Clean rooms. Great breakfast. Attention to smaller details. Beds comfortable. AC was super quiet. Fruit water each day. Cookies. Dvd players and movies and games to borrow. Lots of parking. Wifi worked well. We will be back.

Gwen G.

Yelp
Great hotel! Room was clean. Location was walking distance to everything. Breakfast was wonderful. Afternoon cookies were yummy.

Yelp
Visited Bar Harbor and stayed at the Bar Harbor Grand Hotel (a replica of the Rodick House from the 1800's) from 8/21/2017 - 8/24/2017. It's located easily within walking distance of everything in Bar Harbor Village, and has free parking and a very nice continental breakfast (with eggs and sausages) in their breakfast dining room. Nice heated pool, and a small gym. It's the sister hotel to the Bar Harbor Inn & Spa, located on the water's edge in the Village, but at a more reasonable price. The hotel also offers free complimentary umbrellas when it rains, and postcards (historic Rodick House versus the current Grand Hotel today) to mail. Room was very clean, and staff attentive to the needs of the guests. Will enjoy visiting this hotel again in the future.

William H.

Yelp
I can not recommend a hotel experience more highly. The family suite was excellent, with a perfect location and a view of main street. But the best aspect by far was the service. Management, the two men working the front desk on the afternoon and evening of Memorial Day are stars. Bradley is a stand up individual who has an adept ability at serving clients professionally and courteously. I am not entirely sure of his name, but the young man working the front desk at 2:45 that afternoon (Matthew?) was generous, courteous, and akin to hermes himself in his grace and pace of towel procurement. These men deserve a bonus, a raise, a promotion, or perhaps all three.

Yelp
This is regarding a stay we had in April 2016. Bar Harbor Grand Hotel is a nice little hotel in what is ultimately a nice little town. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was nice, and the free breakfast was good too. All you need in order to enjoy Acadia National Park. The staff was also very nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel to any couple who is staying in Bar Harbor.

Susan P.

Yelp
Just left Grand Hotel after a 2 night stay and it was truly Grand for sure! Clean and friendly, especially Tammy, our check-in girl! The best thing about this hotel is that you can walk to everything- town and the walk to beautiful shore path is right out your door! Thanks for a great stay- see you next year!

Yelp
Steps away from the village center. Very professional young woman at reception - totally smoke-free (they document this w/your signature - such a comfort), spacious room, comfortable bed, pillows, chairs, couch, responsive AC/heat w/ceiling fan; has good wifi, bring your own shampoo/conditioner, water pressure is great, soft, plump towels. Third floor on the street side not disturbed by street sounds, granted was there off-season. Complimentary breakfast was good array and in plenty, included yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, etc. Very pleased w/the stay!

Kellie L.

Yelp
We stayed during the first weekend in November, and even though a pretty major winter storm hit the area, our stay was wonderful. The hotel itself reminded me of Newhart or Murder, She Wrote in the best way. The staff was so polite, and the location was perfect for walking around downtown (if there hadn't been sleet). Our room was on the 4th floor in the corner, and it was very spacious. We had a king-sized bed, dresser, TV hutch, two end tables, a table with two chairs, and even a ceiling fan. The bed was comfy, and the pillows were surprisingly firm - not like your usual hotel pillows. The shower had great pressure, and I appreciated the free WiFi and continental breakfast, which was pretty massive with coffee, all kinds of juices, muffins, cereal, waffles, pastries, fruit, and more! It's served from 6:30-10:30 a.m. A quick recommendation - bring your own toiletries. As a light packer, I usually forgo my own and hope for the best at the hotel. Our bathroom had shampoo, conditioner, and bar soap. The shampoo and conditioner were pretty darn terrible - I have shoulder-length hair, and I had to use almost the whole bottle to even get it to lather, and the conditioner came out like water. There is a hair dryer in the room, but it's your standard wall-attached hair dryer with a big, circular nozzle. All in all, a fantastic stay for only $106/night!

Yelp
I stayed on the 4th floor, and the Internet was crap. After being in a National park all day, and a town where access isn't great, I really hoped the Hotel would be better. Probably try somewhere else next time. Oh ya, also no black out curtains - impossible to sleep in.

Yelp
I find it inherently difficult to find a hotel on the Internet. The pictures are always great, the comments welcoming, and then you arrive and the horror begins... Not so here. What you see on the internet is what you get. This hotel is actually downtown Bar Harbor, as it says on the website. You truly can walk to everything. Parking and breakfast are included. And, shockingly, the rooms are charming and clean. (I mention the last because I have paid more and had to leave for the smell or bugs.) Refreshing, especially for a tourist town.

Yelp
We just returned to California after four wonderful days in Bar Harbor!!! A bit more crowded than it was in past years' visits, but wonderful just the same. First time at this hotel and it was excellent. A special shout-out to Norman at the front desk!!! He was friendly and helpful...and a great baseball fan...helping me root on my Giants!!!! Rooms are spacious and very clean. The breakfast is terrific...In my past visits to Bar Harbor, over the past 20 years, I've stayed in local cottages, but the Bar Harbor Grand was a great deal and a great stay!! Our package included dinner at the Reading Room Restaurant!!! Well worth the whole deal!!!! Can't wait to return.
