Long queue, had to wait for about 1 hour to get my table which was actually promising. I don't mind queuing for great food. It's ok, nothing mind-blowing. I'm sure their produce is fresh. Somehow it was lacking overall punch in the flavors. The sepia was a bit on the chewy side. The mussels were actually plum and juicy just the soup was very peppery. I guess that is their signature taste. I really wanted to like it. Was just not my taste. But for sure it was freshly made and served quickly. The croquettes were creamy and crunchy, golden brown yet lacking flavor. And for sure I couldn't taste the mussels. The olives were great! Overall it's ok. By no means is the food bad. Was it worth waiting for 1 hour? No. Would I eat here for a quick bite? Yes. The waiter was efficient and worked like a machine but I never saw him smile in the 2 hours I've been there .

Google
Easily top 5 meal in Valencia. We ordered the sepionet (grilled cuttlefish fish with parsley garlic oil), Valencia mussels (in a savory and watery broth), patatas bravas (with a dollop of garlic whip) and a glass of vermouth and tinto de Verano. Everything was delicious. I would recommend this same exact meal.

La Pilareta is a charming traditional restaurant in Valencia that beautifully captures the essence of Spanish cuisine through its exceptional tapas offerings. The highlight of the menu is undoubtedly the iconic mussels, which are fresh and flavorful, setting the tone for a delightful dining experience. The grilled cuttlefish is a must-try; it's perfectly cooked, tender, and bursting with flavor. The battered squid, or calamari, is another standout, crispy on the outside while maintaining a succulent interior. To complement the meal, La Pilareta serves a delicious traditional red vermouth, adding a perfect touch to the vibrant atmosphere. Overall, dining here is not just a meal but an immersive experience in Spanish culinary traditions that should not be missed when visiting Valencia.

La Pilareta in Valencia truly stands out as a gem in the culinary landscape. From the moment you step into this charming eatery, you're enveloped by an authentic Mediterranean vibe that promises a memorable dining experience. The fried calamares here are nothing short of spectacular. They strike the perfect balance between crispy and tender, making each bite a delight. Similarly, the Grilled Cuttlefish is a testament to the kitchen's mastery over seafood, grilled to perfection with just the right char and a smoky flavor that complements the natural sweetness of the cuttlefish. Don't miss out on their potatoes; they're a simple dish done exceptionally well - crispy on the outside, soft and flavorful inside. The mussels are another highlight, fresh, succulent, and served with a preparation that enhances their natural briny taste without overpowering it. The atmosphere at La Pilareta matches the quality of the food. It's unpretentious yet inviting, reflecting the vibrant yet relaxed spirit of Valencia. The service is warm and attentive, adding to the overall experience, making you feel like you're dining with friends. If you're planning a revisit, you're in for another treat as the menu, while rooted in traditional Valencian cuisine, always seems to have something new or a seasonal twist that keeps dining here exciting. La Pilareta isn't just a meal; it's an experience that beckons you to come back for more. Highly recommended for anyone looking to savor the essence of Valencian gastronomy.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Valencian tapas in Barrio El Carmen, then head over to Bar La Pilareta. Serving locals and visitors alike since 1917, they are known for their Clochinas (Valencian Mussels). Definitely a must try! The bar will be busy starting at 21:00, but just step inside to see if there is a vacant table. We got lucky and the waiter came over and got our drink order right away. If you want to beat the crowd, you can head over at 20:00. Recommendations: 1) Toasts: Rebana pan con Tomate 2) Tapas: Patatas Bravas, Calamares, Clochinas 3) Sandwiches: Lomo con Queso

Yelp
Great food. Great wine. Potatoes bravos. Very hospitable. Got some English in. Relaxing.

Yelp
Probably the rudest and most hostile waiter I have come across. Food not that great. Pleanty of other bars with same or better quality in the area.

Yelp
Simple place with outstanding comfort and seafood. Ordered 3 "tapas" for two at the bar and it was too much! Fried calamari were huge and even fresher than they were large. Crispy and not oily. The sepioneta (grilled cuttlefish) was a masterfully combined buffet of flavors: the sea, grill, and fresh parsley/garlic oil. Lastly, the grilled swordfish. We really didn't need to order this for the two of us, but we're glad we did. Meaty yet light flavored, with fresh parsley oil. They took credit card, and total was 28 with 2 beers and 3 tapas.

Yelp
Cramped, earthy La Pilareta is great for hearty tapas and clóchinas (small, juicy local mussels), available between May and August. For the rest of the year it serves mejillones (mussels), altogether fatter if less tasty. Ask for an entero, a platterful in a spicy broth that you scoop up with a spare shell. At the bar, etiquette demands that you dump your empty shells in the plastic trough at your feet.

Yelp
Very popular, great atmosphere, great service and the best sea food I have had in Valencia. What is not to like? I observed a few tourists turning in the door when they saw it was full. They had no idea what they were missing. If it is full, just wait by the bar and have a glass of wine. Or do as the locals: have mussels while standing, throwing the shells in the baskets on the floor. Very "authentic" experience. Also goes by the name of Bar Pilar. Btw, the names of the street changes quite rapidly, so using a GPS is well advised :-)

Yelp
This place was awesome. If you stand at the bar you chuck your mussel shells on the floor. The waiter was so friendly, the portions were big and relatively inexpensive so great bang for your buck. And the Arnadi, a pumpkin mousse desert, was AMAZING. Must have!

Yelp
According to my friends, this is where you go for Valencian mussels. I enjoy staying with people like this. They are proud of their city, its culture, and cuisine. This is how to travel. We enjoyed a variety of tostas (longaniza, choriza y morcilla) and a hearty helping of clochinas with sliced bread to soak up the broth. Another satisfying meal in Valencia!

Yelp
This restaurant had quick service. It's nice to sit outside in the evening. The food wasn't that great as all the reviewers are saying. Don't get the calamari. It's too rubbery. The sangria was nice and light to drink, but it was in a bottle and they didn't make it from scratch like other restaurants.

Yelp
Histórico bar de tapas. Imprescindible comer aquí si pasas o vives en Valencia, es todo un espectáculo, tanto por el ambiente que crean los camareros como por la comida que te ofrecen. Muy típico de aquí las clóchinas valencianas.
