15 Best Bars in Puerto Rico | Condé Nast Traveler

"At this elegant, dimly lit, Prohibition-inspired bar, exquisite artisanal cocktails rival those of any mainland American city. Expect refined touches on classics, like a piña colada with coconut water and cinnamon syrup, as well as inventive concoctions like the Cortadito: bourbon, espresso, and chocolate bitters topped with white chocolate shavings. There's also an extensive wine and Champagne menu featuring some big-spender bubbles; this is that sort of place." - Kris Fordham

Google
Look for the red light and enter into a nice bar with plenty of personality and well crafted cocktails. The detail into each drink was appreciated! Ask for Tap water though, they will crack a bottle implying that you need to purchase still.

Fantastic cocktails in a relaxed, welcoming environment. Knowledgeable bartenders who are truly enthusiastic about their craft and about ensuring that everyone enjoys themselves. Will definitely come back and recommend to others.

Great drinks and atmosphere for a date night or night out with friends. Cocktails are inventive and lengthy list by liquor type

We came with a few friends for drinks and had a great experience! The bartender made amazing drinks and the service was fantastic. Highly recommend!

Google
The cocktail game is A-1, no cap. On the hunt for a speakeasy in PR we stumbled upon this gem. The cocktails were very delicious and unique. The names are very clever and fun and the mixes were all intriguing. Tons of unique combinations of flavors. The interior is very dark and sexy. I recommend making a reservation as this saves headaches and time. I won't disclose how to find the spot because what's the fun in that lol. Enjoy the Hunt. The staff was very knowledgeable and the atmosphere inside is also very elegant and sexy. Next time I'm in PR I will make another visit. Definitely a date night spot and be prepared to pay for quality. Cocktails do range at $15 price tags but honestly you look.fir.these types of places to elevate your experience and sometimes that means digging a bit deeper into your pocket. Very much worth it.

Google
I came back after almost a year from my original review and this bar and restaurant continuing to improving, their quality of drinks, food, security and customer services. During my last visit I saw a art exhibition from one of the bar's staff. It's by far one of my favorite's places. A unique bar, great environment, with nice decoration and outstanding customer service. It serve food with great taste and better variety of drinks. Enjoy with the company of your best friends and love one's.

Google
Unidad is unique and gets a well deserved gold star from me. It is in fact my favorite bar to have ever visited and will remain a permanent staple in my visits to San Juan. The cocktails are made with an excellency that cannot compare to any place I have visited in other places. The bartenders are in fact the definition of mixological sorcerers, carefully crafting each elixir with an intoxication that can't be described. I came two nights in a row and left incredibly pleased. Make sure to reserve ahead of time, they have seen a surge in popularity and it's no longer a secret like it once was. There is no dress code, but I recommend looking a bit dapper for this one, as it has a charming esthetic. Although I am a bit of a frugal spender, the value of this place far exceeded my expectations and thus I feel it is justified in the pricing.

Google
The cocktails are extraordinary. I got the smoky but berry fresh and the presentation was so great and the drink was amazing. We also got food and the steak was perfectly cooked. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This bar is a VIBE! A little hard to find but that's the point. Very unique and cozy atmosphere. We were a party of 4 with reservation, but they do take walk-ins depend on availability. From the moment we stepped inside the staff was welcoming and friendly. The girl that was taking care of us, very knowledgeable, asked us our predilection on hard liquor so she could suggest different cocktails. She nail it! I had the 'Walk in the Woods' which is their version of an Old-fashion, amazing! My friends had 'De La Tierra' with mezcal and Rose and Peper with vodka/gin. They loved them. All cocktails had A+ on presentation as well. Besides the amazing cocktails they also have a small sharing-style food menu. We ordered several things like the steak, chorizo turnovers, ceviche with malanga chips, octopus salad and beef carpaccio all of them delicious. This bar for sure will remain permanent on my list of favorite bars in Puerto Rico!

Yelp
Advertised as a Speakeasy Bar with a large variety of cocktails and drinks. Limited wines. Nice varied menu and food was excellent. Employees were all courteous, friendly, and attentive. Front entrance has no signage just a Red Light outside to indicate the Bar. Seating area with bar when you walk in. In the rear there is a cozy sit down area also to eat. No parking, just street parking. Would certainly recommend !

Yelp
This is a definitely IYKYK type of place. We needed a place for drinks before dinner and stopped--well tried to stop by. Luckily when we looked lost right out front a couple of construction workers shouted from across the street, "Looking for La Unidad?? It's the red light there. Press the button by the door." Glad they helped us out because the place has a vibe and the drinks are great. After our quick stop before dinner, we decided to go back a couple days later to check out the menu. Everything was amazing! Carpaccio, avocado salad, and octopus. The team nailed it. Looking forward to going back in my next visit.

Yelp
Let me tell you a little secret When we were in San Juan, we wanted an intimate, speakeasy vibe for our last night in the city. Stumbled upon this from Google BUT were a little confused to where the door was (as most speakeasy's are). We saw a frosted glass door with human shadows lurking about inside. Decided to ring the door bell and hope for the best! BEST being a key word here. Luckily, we came early enough to avoid having to have a reservation but it was not slow inside. Very beautiful bar and seating with typical speakeasy feels. The waitress was very helpful with speaking in English and Spanish (whichever you prefer works). We tried almost every drink on the menu and highly recommend this for a TRUE cocktail experience. Each drink was unique and presented nicely. Another MUST DO when we come back for vacation

Yelp
After a delicious meal at Casita Miramar, we walked over to this speakeasy for a nightcap. We only stayed for one drink since we were tired and full, however, I could see this place being a really good spot for a date. We had a nice private table in the corner on the side of the bar. My boyfriend got their take on an old fashioned and I tried their blossom mule. Both of our drinks were well made. I would recommend this place to someone looking for a romantic/vibey spot for drinks.

Yelp
Ambiance and drinks - A1! The cocktail menu drinks are good but so is anything you order from them. I'd definitely consider this a hidden gem (because I actually had to search for it - it's pretty discreet).

Yelp
Bit of mixed feelings on this place. I saw the high reviews and it's pretty close to where I'm staying so decided to check it out. Glad I came and I'm tempted to go back to give it another shot because I feel like it has potential, but slightly missed the mark when I went. Here's the breakdown: The good: it's so, so cool in there. Genuine speakeasy, unmarked door, really high class interior. They also have wifi, which I've noticed most places in San Juan don't, so if you're like me and stuck in a grandfathered cell contract that doesn't give unlimited data, it's a real boon. The waiter was nice and the first drink I had, the tropic thunder, was super tasty and unusual. Really thoroughly enjoyed it. The bad: service was slooooow. It took somewhere in the ballpark of 30 minutes to get my first drink despite it being empty in there, almost to the point where I said something. Prices are higher than other cocktails in the area although not by much. My second drink was chaotic evil - I saw the ingredient list which involved maraschino and capellini (yes, the pasta) and though wow, this is so bad it has to be good: like when you first heard of dipping fries in your frosty and then it turned out to be the perfect combination. Nope, it was just horrendous. The drink itself was a murky shade of black and it was garnished by a tiny fork with literal pasta on it. I didn't even finish the drink. Appreciate the creativity (sincerely!), Id always prefer a creative miss to an easy hit, but seriously - in this case I feel like I was punked. Did nobody try that drink before putting it on the menu? Anyway, the drink list is interesting enough to return and give it another shot, but one repeat of my haunting black pasta experience and I might be out.

Yelp
Speakeasy vibes. Drinks were great staff was super nice. All their cocktails are great. Good bar if you want to hear the conversation you're having.. or if you're by yourself

Yelp
A very inventive cocktail menu with very friendly and helpful staff. They seemed short-staffed on the night we were there, so service was a little slow, but they were clearly doing their best. Like any creative cocktail program, you might not *love* everything you order, but that's the risk of trying something new! Still worth a visit for any cocktail lover. The "speak-easy" vibe really only applies to the unlabeled front door; once inside, the noise was quite loud with big dinner groups and the music choices (punk and modern rock) felt out of place.

Yelp
Pop rocks on my cocktail, yes please! This "speak easy" was a delightful find next to our airbnb and made exception cocktails. A great date spot with mood lighting.

Yelp
[[FOLLOW ON INSTAGRAM @SEE.ENJOYMENT]] -- Dinner at @barlaunidad last night. A very unique bar with outstanding customer service and a calming environment that'll make you feel so relaxed and cozy as you enjoy your meal. The mixologist at the bar provided a variety of drinks to choose from and will surely put on a show while preparing your drink. To start off I had the usual lychee martini as well as a go to margarita. I than requested a special drink that's sweet yet STRONG. Introducing the Golden Rose: Bourbon (substituted with vodka), Herbs Liquor, Mezcal, Garden Syrup and Orange Bitters For dinner I had their NY steak cooked sous vide with tomato salad and their special mushroom sauce. Overall the night was a high end experience at this little hidden gem located in the metro area of PR.

Yelp
Craft drinks that are worth the walk from the hotel. Blown away by the flavors and captivated by the ambience, which feels like a mix of a cigar lounge and speakeasy.

Yelp
Went to Bar La Unidad looking for a place a little less crazier than the strip with La Factoria and the vibe here was exactly that-- the complete opposite. A more mature crowd and the music was more top 40s-ish. The decor is fashioned off of a speakeasy and they specialize in multi-ingredient cocktails. I got the smoked tea and it was good, a little too smokey but good. A good chill/low key place to grab a drink before or after dinner.

Yelp
The drinks we had were excellent and so were the service and ambiance. The bartender skillfully and carefully made the drinks, which were very reasonably priced. If you're looking for the entrance, it's at an unmarked location except for a black door with a logo of a few connected rings on it. Their conspicuous location brings in a sophisticated and interesting clientele. I think we were the only tourists there (most everyone seemed to have just gotten off of work), which made for a nice and more authentic experience. Go!!

Yelp
Interesting bar of mixed drinks with a twist. For some reason all four different drinks for our group were quite smoky. Also I was invisible as the tender absolutely walked away after serving my wife, without ever a thought to whether I would like a drink. I had to wave down another bartender to finally order. My drink was very acidic and smoky. I would not order that again. Somewhat disappointed in the service, attentiveness as the staff were busy entertaining themselves at the cost of customer service.

Yelp
This might be the very best bar I have ever been to!! The cocktails were inventive and delicious and the bartenders were knowledgeable and friendly. I had the Cordadito, 10 x the Fun (with super fun pop rocks) and El Tropico and my husband had the Peaches and Cream, Walk In The Woods and a glass of rare scotch. They were doing a photo shoot with one of the female patrons showing off and drinking the cocktails during our time there which was kind of weird and annoying. This is an absolutely must try for everyone.

Yelp
I went on a Wednesday with my partner. It was a slow night, very intimate and nice. The bar is dimly lit and romantic, and the bartenders were super friendly and attentive. Highly recommend this place if you are in the area.

Adriana M.

Yelp
The drinks here were spot on! Steven, our bartender, is not only friendly but very skilled at his craft! Considering the quality of the drinks, they are very reasonably priced. The ambiance is very laid back, great place for couples or a group of friends trying to catch up and have a good time.

Jacob M.

Yelp
Drinks were quality, however took a while and server seemed a bit inattentive. Forgot a cocktail at one point. Also only water options were bottled which seemed odd for a bar. Spent $8 on water- almost $16 until we noticed we were charged double before pointing out the error. Kind of a bummer as we had just recommended the place to strangers.

Yelp
I love this place. Very intimate and cozy. The bartender is very friendly and suggested cool drinks. The Old fashioned is a most.

Yelp
Good bar, not great. The bar is decorated nicely and the staff is very good. However, the cocktails werent as good as expected. Also, there vibe was not the one we were expecting.

Yelp
Awesome place! Great cocktails and atmosphere! Look for the door with 3 rings just past Soda. Tough to find but worth it. Bartender was great! Could drink here every night. You must find this place!

Yelp
Angie is an amazing bartender. We had such a great time we went back multiple times. Really creative and cutting edge drinks being made.

Yelp
Love this place, definitely a cool vibe. Would definitely recommend for couples or friends night out with great drinks options.

Yelp
The bartender made me a great Aviation when I asked her if she had the ingredients. Tanqueray is the house gin, so what's there to complain about? It's a small space, but I could still hold a conversation. Lots of fun.

Yelp
We literally stumbled into this hidden gem in San Juan's trendy Miramar area. We had a group meeting at next door's Soda bar and arrived too early. We saw the minimalist sign on the door next door and were very intrigued. When we walked in, the surprise was incredible. The ambiance inside resembled a speak easy bar of the prohibition era with dark woods and big seating areas, just the right lightning and the best of Sinatra era music. The place isn't cheap; there ain't no happy hour here, which made it all the more exclusive and elitist in a part of town famous for its dollar beers and plastic cups drinks. This place is all the opposite. It is what you look for when you go to a fine dining experience; but for cocktails. I had 3 drinks from the menu. By then the lovely mixologist already new my taste and created 3 more not in the menu, but that very well should be. We ordered some appetizers, spicy hummus is great, highly recommended and some cheese tables. We didn't hear the same song twice, ever in the whole night. I say the whole night because we never made it next door to Soda. It is definitely not your every day bar, but for a great time, go to la Unidad.
