Your casual brasserie, offering all the classics. The rooms decoration is art deco. Food is fresh and has a good price/quality ratio. Popular terrace. Service is efficient and welcoming.

If you’ve had good food before, you’ll know the food here is bland, tasteless, and does not live up to French standard. Even the salt wasn’t salty. The silverware was not clean. I went through three since the first two had food remnants on them (see napkin in picture). There was also a piece of foil baked into my mozzarella that I bit into (see plate in picture). If it wasn’t for the fact that we were turned away from three different restaurants for not having reservations and having been very hungry from traveling all day, we wouldn’t have eaten here. The power also went out but that is normal. Lovely location. If you want edible, this is your choice. Or maybe for a quick drink?

A busy place on the corner of the Cours Mirabeau but great service, really good food - plat du jour salade gourmand and merguez couscous then very good desserts. A lively atmosphere - quintessentially French - and lovely decor.

Google
A very quirky French café and brasserie with a very, very long history. The prices are excellent 👌 and I recommend the Baignat or the Croque Monsieur/ Madame! The mannerisms of some of the waiters is just funny and tbh quirky. Don't believe half the stuff you read re: reviews. If you want to take pictures inside (particularly Les cigales ceramique!) and the interior- you should ask permission, they told me that people usually don't. One for the entomologists for sure!! Vive Les insects!

Google
Pretty authentic French bar. Orders are shouted by the servers to the kitchen the old school way. The whole place will know what you are ordering at your table The service was good specially that Le Grillon was pretty packed and people waiting for tables.

Food was okay. I had the steak off the menu served with chips and salad. Chips appeared to be from frozen and the salad was not dressed. I was however provided with oil and vinegar. Being on the main drag the atmosphere was good and the staff friendly.

Stay away…The food and drinks were horrible. Pina Colada tasted like sink water. Asked to get something else and was told I had to still pay for the drink. The Bacon on the Club Sandwich was grey and eggs were green. Couldn’t eat it. The rest of the food didn’t have much taste. Decided to cut our losses and left. Wish I would have read the reviews… my bad.

Google
The restaurants located on Cours Mirabeau are not just the places to eat but are the representation of what Aix en Provence provide as an culinary experience. One will expect the same with such a quality experience. This was not the case when I visited the Bar Le Grillon. We just had the café Gourmand and tarte de pomme. It was not at all tasty. Not fresh, not well prepared and not well presented.

Yelp
Incredibly kind service on a Saturday night and a nice price point for the food. We sat inside and were given several choices for a snack-type appetizer. We were a party of three, and it definitely seemed that the restaurant was a social place. I ordered the pesto pasta, which was good. The cheese on top was my favorite part. There was certainly a lot of pasta and I felt like I got a great amount of food for the price, however, I would have appreciated more pesto for the volume of pasta. Our server was incredibly kind and attentive despite having many tables. I would definitely return.

Yelp
Service was the worst we experienced in France, italy , Portugal or Spain in the last 2 years of Travel We made to wait for over 2 hours for our order despite our requêsts. Our server was not attentive of caring enough to fix this matter

Yelp
We just stopped for a cold drink on a hot day Seemed a bit pricey- service was fast- lots of outdoor seating Restroom on second floor

Yelp
Loved the steak frites, tarte tatin, and cheese plate. Friendly service, as well, and the ambience in the area is nice for sitting outside.

Yelp
Absolutely the best hamburger I have ever eaten. Great service, very attentive waiter. Highly recommend. Worth the trip to Aix-en-Provence.

Yelp
No English menu. Meat not done to request Nice staff who translated the menu at our request, but overworked Never came back to get the wine request

Yelp
The best aspect of this place is the location - conveniently situated on the cours mirabeau. At the same time, that makes it touristy and the prices to be slightly inflated. However, the decor is gorgeous, service is very friendly (even to an american standard). Food is decent as well. The rose is good and always a good choice in Provence. My salad entree was fresh and for the main course, the fish was just okay but the vegetables were very flavorful. Dessert was meh - mousse au chocolat was too dense and cold, but probably just because it was in the fridge. There are 3 seating areas - outside, inside first floor (RDC) and the second floor (or first floor in France). I ate with a large group so we were seating on the second floor - super gorgeous, although I can see how the terrace would be a great place to people watch.

Yelp
I liked it... Bustling, 99% locals when we're here mid-March. Very friendly waiters helping out the people that don't speak any French like me. 7 o'clock and people are having a beer free popcorn and olives. Salad Nicoise was darn good, steak chewy good and frites hot. Mustard for the croque monsieur is spicy hot out of a crock. Big table of kids yucking it up while we are here (seems like a good life)... The restaurant itself is quite interesting and I like the different sections. The heat lamp in our middle area is quite lovely. Pay at the bar... Did I say how nice the wait staff is? Smile and they seem sincere.

Yelp
This was a lovely restaurant with very helpful servers. We enjoyed the crawfish and the fish plate. The food was extremely creamy though so heads up on that that's a problem for you. Everything was very delicious and we enjoyed the crème brûlée to end the night!

Yelp
We ate here several times while in town; it's on the Cours Mirabeau, so convenient to everything, has a lovely patio (though the "no smoking on the veranda" sign is an utter joke...), and apparently is a venerable institution. One of the waiters has even worked there for 40 years! We had delicious ice cream one day, drinks another day (which included tasty tapas including toasts with red pepper remoulade, olives, chick peas, and oddly, popcorn). Because it's on the main drag it's always crowded, and thus prices are a bit inflated due to demand. Adjust your expectations accordingly. Be sure to peek inside (even if you eat outside) and see all the cigale (cicada) decor (the cigale is the symbol of Provence). Apparently all of Aix knows that this is the place to chill, because it's always busy. Grab a seat and enjoy!

Yelp
Typical of a the cafe/restaurants right next to busy town centers. Good spot if you just want to have a coffee or drink and people watch but the food is mediocre and overpriced. Don't come here if you're hungry, you'll be disappointed because of all of the much better places just around the corner. That said, it's actually very pretty inside and it's in a prime location.

Yelp
First things first: the food is RECORD-BREAKING TERRIBLE!! Absolutely WORST food my friend and I have ever tasted in a restaurant - like it had been frozen, tasted expired, bitter, horrible. Another friend had warned me, but I had to make the mistake of finding out for myself. Another time I went there, I received a nasty attitude from one of the servers, who was ready to fight because I mispronounced 1 word in French (French is my third language, and I'm advanced level too, but we all make mistakes). The location is beautiful and central, but for that reason it is overcrowded with unsuspecting tourists. The upstairs inside is also nice. Maybe it's an OK location for a short drink, but NOT for food. Don't be looking for a restaurant experience or anything. This place's strength is ambiance and location. I would otherwise give this place 2 stars for its redeeming location, but the food was just so record-breaking terrible that I simply cannot go above a 1 star regardless of the place.

Yelp
I ordered the menu of the day and enjoyed my dinner. I was amongst friendly French people and they also cater to tourists with an English menu. The meal was satisfying and I enjoyed the look of this French bistro. I ordered the creme brulee and thought that I've had better creme brulee here in the States.

Yelp
On one visit to Aux en Provence, we sat outside at one of their umbrella'd tables for close to 5 hours. Just listening to music, sipping on champagne and coffee and a waitress would come by periodically with a tray of complimentary mini plates of quiche and such and set them on our table. Loved the people watching and just taking in the beautiful weather! The staff here is very nice and were very accessible even with all of those tables they were covering. The location is in a great central location and in such a beautiful location. I know some of the reviewers were saying that birds were everywhere but I didn't feel like I was on a set of The Birds or anything like that. At most a group of small birds would come to a table if the servers didn't clear the table quickly but then would fly away again once people would come close. Maybe because we were under an umbrella I didn't notice...eh C'est la vie!

Yelp
This place has apparently been around for ages. Visually, it takes on the outdoor-seating style of their neighbor, Les Deux Garcon. The only reason we came to Le Grillon was because we were dead-tired and sat down at the first place we found. Of course, we had no expectations for it. And no expectations were really met... I got the foie gras, which came with flat breads. It was 20 euros, which I thought was a bit overpriced. There was also a 3-course lunch/dinner prix fixe menu for just 14 euros. All I remember that my friends got was salad, an overcooked salmon, and chocolate mousse. It didn't look that good, but for the price, you get what you pay for. Service was slow, but then again, this place is for people who don't need to rush to get to the next place.

Yelp
Lovely outdoor patio and good ambiance. The house aperitif and the crème brûlée was very good.

Yelp
Pros: lovely location. Relatively reasonably priced for the area ($14, 18, and $30 set menu options, local wine is well priced), mostly friendly staff. Amazing eggs and mayo, really good ratatouille. Creme caramel awesome. Cons: Fish was most likely frozen then overcooked. Rice had no flavor. Wife's chicken was a bit dry but okay. Lots of options in the area so won't come back, but the cheap wine kept us here for a while.

Yelp
Entrecote of leather. Just stay away. However. This place is great for watching people sit on the outside far right (as you face the restaurant) and watch as the birds crap all over people. Just order something to drink and sit under an umbrella or covered area and watch as unsuspecting diners are bombarded with bird plop. Imagine their surprise as they realize the seats and chairs are exposed to the trees and the well fed birds above. Yes, they got me too.

Yelp
Perfect location, slightly overpriced (but this is to be expected). I had a very filling lunch omelette. Choose the 15 euro formule (always a good idea at French restaurants).

Helen H.

Yelp
I love to have their warm goat cheese salad for lunch with a glass of white wine. I end up soaking up all the remains with wonderful French bread. And the people watching is fantastic on the Cours Mirabeau.
