I’ve heard about Polish milk bars from our tour of communism. I had an idea that they are similar to Filipino turo-turo (point-point) where you can tell the person behind the counter what you would like. There are usually several options and the meals are generally inexpensive.
As it has been chilly, I’ve been craving soup. The lady taking the order thankfully speaks English so I didn’t have to embarrass myself with my limited Polish knowledge, phew!
She told me what she had for soup and I selected beef stroganoff. She asked if I wanted bread with it which I declined. I wanted to try their pork cutlet which I obliged to have with mashed potatoes. The soup, the pork dish and water amounted to less than $15 which is certainly less expensive than most cities in the US.
The soup and dish were both delicious. Just couldn’t give them 5 stars as I felt the pork would have been much better if it was hot and crunchy(it was just warm). The soup could have also been hotter. I think they don’t wipe the tables as often as they should either.
This milk bar is nicely decorated though. Considering it is very close to the city center, it is undoubtedly great value for money.
Oh, btw, they have an English menu but I didn’t see it until before I left 😄
