Atmosphere: 5.5/10 Set in Toronto’s Little Portugal neighborhood, Bar Mordecai leans more lounge than cocktail bar. Heavy red lighting dominates the space, making it tough for photos. The Wes Anderson-inspired theme doesn’t quite translate—there’s a mismatch between the concept and the actual design. As the night progresses, especially on weekends, the music gets louder and the vibe turns more clubby with DJs in rotation. Spatial layout feels underused and conversation gets harder later in the evening. Drinks: 5/10 Recommendation: – The small menu includes a few drinks on tap, with alcohol content listed. While the concepts show some creativity, flavors lean basic and lack balance. Presentation is minimal—garnish comes in the form of custom ice cubes only. Average glassware, but nice coasters. Overall, the drinks feel a notch below Toronto’s usual bar standards. Service: 7.5/10 Friendly team, but not not very clear in the roles of the staff. Water served on arrival. Prices are below average for the city. That said, the team could have been a bit more attentive.

Had my birthday there on Friday and what an experience! Me and my friends all work in the industry and to have our server patiently taking his time with us and explaining everything about their espresso martini was the highlight of our night. If you are looking for nice food, drinks, ambiance and service this is the place! We were all so happy and I had one of my nicest birthdays there, will be back! ❤️

We visited the BLACK LAGOON pop-up bar in October, and overall, it was a great experience. The atmosphere was unique and immersive, with spooky and stylish decor that perfectly captured the Halloween vibe. Karaoke rooms and a menu with a variety of creative food options, though the portions were on the smaller side, so it's something to keep in mind if you're looking for a more filling meal. Despite that, the food was tasty, and the overall ambiance made it worth a visit. If you're into themed experiences, especially during the Halloween season, BLACK LAGOON is definitely worth checking out.

Love it here! The atmosphere and dj after 11 is some of the best in TO. More mature crowd of 25/30+ which an awesome if you feel too old for the Apt 200s of the world, and people actually dancing!! This is our go to for a fun night of dancing in TO.

Photos are not doing any justice what so ever to the experience this place provides. Food: blew me away. Must try everything if you can. Drinks: I had a server recommend me a couple of drinks and they were phenomenal. One with mezcal and other one was with tequila and cucumber.

Have my birthday party here every year in the karaoke room! The themed rooms are the best! Especially thanks to Andrew who was amazing last month! Accommodating and attentive he made the birthday party great! Great vibes and decor.

Google
Cool vibe, reasonable price, and solid happy hour deal! Service was just okay, like we were really pushed to leave our table when our time was up which was a little abrasive and the food was good but not mind blowing either. I’d say the happy hour deal is the best bet for a good time. The karaoke downstairs looked super fun though!

Yelp
We'd just finished a delightful dinner on Ossington and were in the mood for a nightcap, when I remembered Bar Mordecai. I'd been wanting to check the place out for ages, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity. We showed up on a Saturday at around 7:00 and the place was half full. I was immediately a little put off by the open and far from intimate vibe, but the longer I sat at the bar, the more I began to dig the place. We were able to order from the Happy Hour menu, so we pretty much had to grab the Mini 'Tini & Shrimp Cocktail Tower ("two mini grey goose martinis plus shrimp cocktail"). It arrived a little while later and it's definitely a fun concoction. As advertised, it's two small martinis and a tiny shrimp cocktail presented in a tower. The various components were all quite satisfying, so I'd say it's a must order. I figured I should probably try a cocktail, too, so I went with the Freaky Money ("bacardi ocho rum, elora "borealis" pale ale, campari, dillon's chocolate liqueur, guava, peppercorn, coconut, angostura"). I mean with a list of ingredients like that, I pretty much had no choice. It's surprisingly good! All the components work shockingly well together and it's a fruity cocktail with an edge to it, essentially. I'd definitely order it again. I noticed that Bar Mordecai also has a cool-looking basement complete with private karaoke rooms, so I'm sure we'll be returning to check that out eventually.

Yelp
I absolutely love Bar Mordecai! It was my first time going to this place and honestly I have no regrets whatsoever! From the moment you walk in, the ambiance and decor set the perfect mood. Everything from the service to the drinks is top-notch. I had a glass of Chardonnay, and it was perfect. I can't wait to come back and try more. The attention to detail is just chef's kiss. Definitely going to be one of my new favorite spots!

Yelp
Would absolutely recommend and am shocked that this place wasn't more packed early on a Friday night (though I'm honestly glad that, unlike other restaurants in the area, this one had breathing room)! We sat at the bar and ordered the entire happy hour menu (which, by the way, goes all the way till 8pm-- yes!) and it was so good: Oysters Patatas bravas Chicken kofta Bannock with hummus and labneh and warm olives And two teeny martinis And then we shared one small plate of sea bream with fingerling potatoes and tomatoes. And then we tried two cocktails: -Final Boss (this one has BOBA and I'm obsessed) -Rat Boy (Kat, the bartender, created this and gave it a Simpson's reference!) All of it was perfect. The vibes here are immaculate; the staff are super kind (shout-out to Kat and the amazing hostess) and there's loads of great happy hour deals to try.

Yelp
Came here for a family dinner on a Wednesday night. The interior were pretty nicely decorated and the space was pretty open. There weren't too many people there but we were still sat at a relatively tight spot. Feels definitely more like a lounge vibe rather than a sit down restaurant. The food was pretty good and their happy hour deal was decent. The Patatas Bravas and the shishito at a discounted price made them pretty worth it and both were pretty decent. The potatoes were a little bit wet though. The pulpo had a great texture was a little bit lacking in flavor. The cook on it was perfect though. Finely the burrata was definitely the star. It was light and fluffy and paired perfectly with the bread. Overall was a good meal but most dishes needed slight adjustments to get it there. If only it was a bit more of a comfortable dining spot, but if you're coming in expecting lounge like seating, you wouldn't be disappointed.

Yelp
Such a cute hipster bar in Dundas West. It's pretty roomy with lots of seating at tables or the bar. They can also take your jacket for you at the host stand. The bathrooms are all gendered as in it's individual toilets with their own door and a shared sink area. Love the disco hall in the bathroom. They have a pretty good selection of non alcoholic drinks including a non-alc of the day which I tried. It was citrusy and very delicious. For food, the croquettes and cauliflower with hummus are must get. We also got shishitos peppers which were a daily special and patatas bravas which are bigger chunks of potato. I personally like my patatas bravas with more crunch and these were more soft.

Yelp
Went here over a weekend for drinks with friends. Very cute interior and happy hour even on Sunday! Washrooms are down a flight of stairs next to another bar level area with private karaoke rooms lol. Food is good but it took a long time so this is definitely a place where you need to take your time. Fun chill vibes though. Get resos or come early or you may have a long wait.

Yelp
Good ambience and service was great. The spicy margarita is 10/10. The gold dust woman was not too my liking a bit too bitter. Pearl morissette rose was good, not too sweet and dry which is what I expected.

Yelp
Woah, this place is so cool!! I found Bar Mordecai on blogTO's top 40 restaurants with amazing interior design and I was so excited to see that the furnishings and decor were inspired by Wes Anderson. The photos online made this place look beautiful, but in person it was spectacular. I'm absolutely obsessed with it. I made a reservation for 2 people online and we were immediately seated as soon as we spoke with the hostess--something that I haven't experienced much with other bars' reservation systems. We ordered 4 different drinks and 5 different food items, of which I can't remember the name of but they were all INCREDIBLE. The food was so impressive and every bite tasted like heaven. The service was also amazing, our waitress was so kind and would regularly come to check up on us. I seriously can't wait to come back here, I'll be bringing all my friends :)

Yelp
Lively spot with great drinks, a vibey dark bar upstairs that turns into a dance floor later at night. Loved the music too, DJ was great. Downstairs they have a lounge and karaoke rooms which seem fun.

Yelp
LOVE this place! Our server...the interior....the food.....the drinks, fantastic! Me and my 2 friends came here just before their happy hour ended and ordered 6 things since everything is small format - the shrimp, cauliflower, cheese croquettes, beet and tomato salad, eggplant and of course the oysters with mignonette (picture attached)! Food was all done shortly after hitting the table. For drinks I had two Tame Impalas, refreshing and springy flavour. Could have had 3 more! Our server was delightful, didn't catch their name but very professional, attentive and brought out everything very quickly - it really heightened the dining experience! Will undoubtedly be back again.

Yelp
Beautifully designed establishment. Gorgeous bar, good vibe, fine service. But the food was atrocious. Filled with 20-something's seemingly enjoying their meals, made me sad to think what the decade behind me thinks is acceptable to eat. The dishes we over sauced, the cuts of meat were incredibly poor, and overall everything was lacking taste. The food actually made me nauseous. There are a few items on the menu- salad, croquettes, etc- things that are easy to make and hard to screw up, and even these items were over saturated but eatable. Also, it's worth noting, when the server cleared our barely eaten mains and casually asked how everything was, i mentioned I was disappointed with the quality, and she had no follow up which makes me feel like they all know the food isn't good and they don't want to get into it. So, know this going in- go for drinks, go for karaoke, but please have some pride for what goes in your body and avoid the temptation of the menu.

Yelp
Great food, atmosphere and staff. We were celebrating a birthday here in the flower karaoke bar and stayed here all night. The music was great and all very dance worthy. Pretty straightforward to book online and was able to accommodate a bigger group. Would definitely visit again and recommend to friends.

Yelp
Went to a birthday and tried the fixed priced "dinner". Food was incredibly UNDERWHELMING and not enough for our table. Only exception was the croquettes, delicious, but we only had one croquette / person on the table LOL. Never again.

Yelp
Saw this place on a random TikTok and since my partner and I are both Wes Anderson's fans we knew we had to swing by! Their happy hour runs from 6-8 Wednesday to Sunday which makes it really convenient and the drinks are SUPER affordable. We got a draft beer, a glass of the house white wine and the non-alc drink of the day. Everything was so so delicious, their white wine went down so smoothly! I loved the non-alc drink (I'm not a big drinker) and even enjoyed sips of my partner's beer! We started off with 5 raw oysters then moved onto the cauliflower + hummus and the carne asada with chimichurri sauce. The carne asada was so so tender and well seasoned (although a lil on the saltier side) but incredibly delicious! The cauliflower was also yummy and I love the spices they put on it and the toasted bread was paired perfectly with it! The lil bits of cranberry gave it an extra crunch and a hint of sour/sweetness. We ordered the Spanish flan for dessert which wasn't my favourite but nevertheless the entire night was such a pleasure! The location and the decor are absolutely beautiful, they even have a downstairs and the bathrooms was so aesthetic. It wasn't as busy as I thought but I def recommend coming here and I will be coming back soon!

Yelp
Horrible venue. Will rush you out of the bar and karaoke area to push more patrons in. Horrible service and policy. Spent alot of money eating and drinking and they pushed us out like vagabonds. Hope this place closes. Way more bars and restaurants in the area with better service. Avoid this place unless you want to feel like low life cattle.

Yelp
I am livid with my experience this past Friday night. I am a professional in the downtown core and when I was told that this is the place to go on a Friday night I was so excited to see it that i even got four of my closest friends to join me. I am use to line ups at bars and I figured because there was a line up at 12:30am it must have a good vibe for folks to wait to get in that late. Naturally at most popular bars it's not uncommon for doorman to collect something on the side for some pocket change letting folks by pass the line. This particular bar had one guy running the show and boy was he collecting serious money and not shy about it at all. At one point we said to him that we have been in line for an hour and his letting so many folks in that's paying him what about the regular line. Then the manager came out just as he let another 5 guys in for 100$ which I saw him handing the guy but he denied it. The manager finally saw how upset we were and let us in but let me tell you while the one bouncer was checking our ID's that guy came over and berated me so much for "putting him on blast' his words in front of the manager disposing him and then proceeds to ask if i'm married and before I could respond he said"probably not cus no man will put up with a woman as difficult as me." I was in shock and if it was not for the other security guy with the tattoos that came and sincerely apologized on behalf of the bar. I would have put in a formal complaint of harassment. I am a professional woman in her 40's and I have never heard so many degaratory and sexiest comments coming from this doorman as I stood in line. I am shocked that the manager didn't even say anything to him while he treated us this way. We did end up having a nice time and the venue is very nice. I just didn't like the way we were welcomed as firstimes. Not sure if i would return.

Yelp
Weak pours. Awful vibe. Empty bar. Man at the door says not sure we have room. Bar is empty. Spend your money elsewhere. Just awful
