"In the summer of 1984, the SSC Napoli shockingly signed one of the greatest soccer players in the world during the time, the Argentine Diego Maradona, for a record-breaking sum. After finishing in the lower half in of the league the season before he joined, Maradona took Napoli to win the Italian league in 1987 and 1990, as well as the UEFA Cup in 1989. During that time, Maradona would become a legend on the Argentine national team as well, by winning the won them the World Cup in 1986. After the player’s sudden wave of success, the population of Naples was sept up in a transcendental wave of euphoria. In a short time, Diego Maradona became an icon of the city. After he left Napoli in 1991, the team would revert to mediocrity. Today, Naples is filled with countless pictures, stickers and murals of Maradona in the streets. The star player has become an icon of the city and the secular equivalent of a venerated saint. To pay homage to Maradona, do as the locals do and head to Bar Nilo, a local watering hole that contains a shrine to the athlete. The bar’s altar is filled with photos of Maradona in the different stages during his career, from his early days in Argentina to his highest career achievements at Napoli. What really pushes the shrine over the edge is that, much like real Catholic reliquary, the bar claims to feature a lock of Maradona’s hair. It rests in a place of honor at the heart of the shrine. Know Before You Go Order an Aperol spritz to sip on while you gawk at the memorabilia." - Windshieldwiper, znqssqdfsq

Absolutely a must see! Besides the best espresso, cappuccino and sandwich, Bar Nilo is also Maradona's shrine.

Stopped to chill for a bit and people watch whilst trying to sort out a phone issue Treated like a princess by the rather lovely barista who I have to say makes amazing spritz 😍 As I was already sat outside he didn't make me wait for another drink despite a queue ahead and this was appreciated as a wee bit stressed ( left a bit tipsy so 5 stars on the drinks ) Returning a few times this year and will be my first stop for brekkie and spritz Never change folks 😍😍😍

Nice little bar. My partner and I were doing some tourism strolling around the historical centre when we came across this place and were drawn to it for all of the Maradona memorabilia outside. We took a moment to look at it all and found it a fascinating place. Inside they have a literal shrine to the wee fella. I later noticed all of the anti-Juve and anti-Sarri statements which I found hilarious 😂

A much-photographed cafe with Diego Maradona's tuft of hair, located in a prominent location. A must for a quick stop in the city center.

Early in the morning we went to the coffee shop to buy an espresso... When I saw what was in the cafe, I was really amazed, I asked the waiter if it was really a lock of Maradona's hair, he told me that the owner of the cafe was friends with Maradona... After that there was a conversation with the owner of the cafe, a kind man, we had an interesting conversation related to his acquaintance with Maradona, which is obviously true when you see that he has a very friendly joint picture with Maradona... After that, he told me that I could take a look, take a picture as a souvenir if I wanted to... Of course, I knew all about it, but I performed such etiquette, just looking at the reviews when I realized that people without manners rush inside to take pictures, so the owner's reaction is normal... It's all about manners, it's all about behavior, don't be classic tourists, the owner is a great person when you behave normally... I take this opportunity to thank you owner for a first-hand interview about the legendary Maradona... See you again for sure!
