Bar "O Avô"

Lovely little local place but do not miss it! The food it great especially the tradition dishes. But most importantly the service is warm and welcoming! We had the pleasure of being attended by Andrew who was extremely friendly, and offered his personal options on both the menu and the island. Thank you Andrew and thank you to the chefs for the amazing food!

You HAVE to come here if you go in Funchal. Right in the streets of the historical side of Funchal, this bar offers a lot of good options. One Espetada, one Scabbard fish with banana, two beers, two coffees, 40 euros in two with an offered liquor after bill. Everything was fine, foods was exceptional, staff was very kind!

Enjoyed our dinner here tonight. Great place to be, super nice people in the service - no wish open, inclusive perfect suggestions of the wine! Thanks for making our dinner a nice and relaxing experience!

The best steak I've had in a long time. Friendly and cheerful waiter. The restaurant could raise its profile for tourists because my husband and I found it to be the best meat meal during our holiday. Sides were basic tomato and chips but still. The place is really modest on the outside and the menu doesn't stand out from other restaurants in any way. I can only say that it is an incomparable and affordable place near the beach boulevard.

Lovely food in a no frills restaurant. The waiter was lovely polite and spoke perfect English. The food was local fare and I hade a fish dish with banana which was delicious , everything was lovely and 4 glasses of complementary Madeira wine as well.Just a very pleasant experience.

Another great stop in Madeira. Our server was excellent. Recommended some great items and how it should be cooked. Explained how some things were made. All very well priced.

Such a lovely place with the most thoughtful and kind employees. The beef espetada was delicious and they ensure you are taken care of. I especially love how warm and sweet the waiters were. Highly recommend if in Funchal!

This place is awesome. You can get local food for a good price. We paid 20€ for two meals, three large beers and one for poncha. But the best part is the bartender and his bar. He is an extraordinary guy with an not so average maderian bar ;)
