Bar "O Avô"

Had a lovely meal here, service was fabulous and friendly! Andrew (the waiter) really made this experience so enjoyable, he is such a helpful lovely person. The food was incredible, very generous servings and well cooked. Really lovely environment and friendly atmosphere, would highly recommend. ❤️

Food was nothing special and prices are higher because it is close to the city center. But the waiter was very nice and friendly. Also the restaurant is located on not very attractive place in the middle of not very flat pavement what wasn't very comfortable.

You HAVE to come here if you go in Funchal. Right in the streets of the historical side of Funchal, this bar offers a lot of good options. One Espetada, one Scabbard fish with banana, two beers, two coffees, 40 euros in two with an offered liquor after bill. Everything was fine, foods was exceptional, staff was very kind!

Lovely little local place but do not miss it! The food it great especially the tradition dishes. But most importantly the service is warm and welcoming! We had the pleasure of being attended by Andrew who was extremely friendly, and offered his personal options on both the menu and the island. Thank you Andrew and thank you to the chefs for the amazing food!

Friendly place with no pretence: good traditional food that felt Portuguese, nothing fancy, but what locals eat. If you think going to Madeira should not taste like a burger, or a pizza, and want something simple, served by a kind and no nonsense staff, all at a decent price, this is a good place. I will come back.

Lovely food in a no frills restaurant. The waiter was lovely polite and spoke perfect English. The food was local fare and I hade a fish dish with banana which was delicious , everything was lovely and 4 glasses of complementary Madeira wine as well.Just a very pleasant experience.

Very calm and relaxing location, tasty food, great value, and super friendly staff!

This place is awesome. You can get local food for a good price. We paid 20€ for two meals, three large beers and one for poncha. But the best part is the bartender and his bar. He is an extraordinary guy with an not so average maderian bar ;)
