I will always love Bar of Chocolate for its delicious, dessert-themed martinis, dim lighting, and cozy ambience on the iconic, cobblestoned Wharf Street.
Unfortunately, our experience on Saturday the 22nd was less than stellar. The wait, despite BOC being packed, luckily wasn't too bad. We told the host that whilst 5 of us were there, we were waiting on a 6th. She sat us at the last available table, which barely fit 5 of us, but we were just grateful to get a table.
From the get go, despite all of us being overly friendly (given how busy it was), we were met with a rude attitude. Everyone who I was with works in customer service and understands what it's like to be understaffed and overwhelmed, but no one ever verges into rudeness unless a customer is being extremely disrespectful (which we weren't).
If we asked for a singular menu (omg), for an *additional* menu to share among the 6 of us (we were given 1), or for a 6th chair to accommodate the 6th person in our party (we were sat at a table meant for 4 and barely fit), it was a problem.
We were expected to figure out ourselves how to seat the 6th member of our party at our table, and told that they wouldn't be able to squeeze her in. ...What? Then why'd you seat us to begin with??
We then politely asked if we could move to the table next to ours (that party had left, and there was no one waiting to be seated), and again, this was met with rudeness. We weren't trying to make things harder on anyone, but we did expect for our friend to have a place to sit instead of awkwardly standing up next to our table.
To top it all off, the music was ear-splittingly loud and we had to fight to hear each other, pretty much yelling the entire time.
We still tipped close to 25% just because we appreciated getting into the bar despite how busy it was. But still, the behavior from our waitress was seriously unacceptable.
