On the Grid : The Walton

"New to the neighbourhood, it’s fast becoming a weekly haunt with the locals - we come here at least 3x a week. In the mood to grab a paper or novel and have a coffee? This is your place. Fresh pastries and nibbles from The Tempered Room? This is your place. A drink and some food with a new or longtime love? This is also your place. As soon as you walk by you’re struck by the quaint and homey white exterior, and serenaded in by the jazz and swing music softly playing. The Walton just transitions so beautifully from morning to night, with an interesting list of delightfully potent cocktails and interesting charcuterie options. Must eats: Skagenröra, The Rosethorn, Coster’s Lost Wallet." - Sid Lee

Nice cocktail bar with fun drinks and great service. I liked their interpretations of some classics like the espresso martini and Pisco sour. Their variations demonstrate some personality and the showcase of local ingredients is always a plus. Each cocktail is about $21-$26. The back patio is a really lovely area in the summertime. Also good to keep in mind the food is only smaller snacks like nuts, chips, and olives. I recommend the bakery punch.

Atmosphere: 7.5/10 Little Italy. A very typical neighborhood vibe, matched by a straightforward bar layout—plenty of counter seating and tables for groups. It doesn’t immediately stand out design-wise, but the backbar is impressively stocked. Music has a funky edge but stays at a pleasant volume for conversation. Drinks: 8.5/10 Recommendation: Cocktail de Paris Menu design is a highlight: sophisticated, easy to follow, with clear ingredient descriptions and playful illustrations matched to each drink. High-quality glassware, unique coasters, and minimalist garnish and presentation. The drink list leans creative, with fun names and thoughtful combinations. Cocktail de Paris was excellent—well-balanced and satisfying. Oh La Vache #3 didn’t land as cleanly, coming off a bit unbalanced. Service: 8.5/10 Water on arrival, highly attentive and professional team. Pricing is a bit above average for Toronto, but service is polished and smooth.

Canada’s #1 bar and one of the top 50 bars in the world was an absolute joy with creative and tasty cocktails, the best friendly and attentive service and, eh, I just loved their bread ( from their nearby bakery). I especially loved the Cornichon martini and the GOLDEN LIGHT cocktail featuring Wild fennel, bee pollen, pisco, honey jasmine cordial, lemon Can’t recommend this place enough!!!

This was a beautiful spot right from the front door. I was greeted by Adrianna and she was such a lovely host. The exceptional customer service extended to the bar where they helped me pick the perfect drink. I gave them my tastes and my cocktail was wonderful. Please check them out and know that you’ll get perfection from the front door to the walk out.

Google
Sleek and intimate spot for some excellent cocktails. Walk-in only. The Fire Escape from the seasonal menu was my favorite by far, it was so well executed. The seasonal pumpkin drink was quite nice too. Super friendly and attentive staff.

Amazing back patio! Cocktails were on point. Big fan of the take on the classic 'Espresso Martini' flavoured with seaweed and sesame! Service was friendly and personable. Will go back for sure!

In 2024 Bar Pompette won best bar in Canada. Early 2025 when we arrived it has continued that trend. The atmosphere and vibe were amazing and the staff were kind and helpful. Nick, the bartender when we were there, was a great example of what class, skill, and hospitality should be. This bar is deserving of your time and money.

Yelp
Ordered: Nitro Colada (~CAD$20): pineapple, coconut, curry leaf falernum, white rum, nitrogen Pursuit of Hoppyness (~CAD$12): non-alcoholic; passionfruit, yuzu, tonic, sencha, citra hops Aya's take: Bar Pompette made it to #29 on North America's 50 Best Bars 2024 list and we decided to give it a try while we were in town. Only 3 bars on the list are in Toronto and I'm so glad we happen to be close to Bar Pompette. The ambiance is really cool; classic vibe with some retro art and books throughout. The Nitro Colada (~CAD$20) is by far one of the best crafted and most unique cocktails I've ever had. This is one of the first times I can say the price is actually well-justified! The Nitro Colada is light, creamy, and silky. It's like drinking a cloud - I don't know how else to explain it. If they sold that by the bottle, I would buy it. The Pursuit of Hoppyness was pretty solid and can be made alcoholic, as well. It didn't really stand out to me too much in terms of taste but I'm a fan of passionfruit so I knew I couldn't go wrong. If you're in Toronto, definitely come to Bar Pompette and definitely get the Nitro Colada!

Yelp
I went to this bar based on all the hype online. It's a small knit place with limited seating, but very cozy nonetheless. We sat at the bar, because I find you get the best experience when you watch the mixologists do their work. The drinks were good, the people sitting next to us were obnoxiously loud (I get it's a bar and all). The espresso martini = 10/10

Yelp
Bar Pompette is a must - go! I'm from Vegas & have been to many cocktail bars. We were at Bar Raval and it wasn't our vibe so we found this area that had a lot of great reviews about their drinks. This is the best cocktail bar we've been to!! Not only are the cocktails delicious but they're different & unique. There's something for everyone which is nice. It's strictly a cocktail bar so no food or anything else to be expected. Nick is the bartender and he is super knowledgeable and friendly. I went to the restroom and saw my cocktail was gone. He put my cocktail in the fridge so it wouldn't get warm - service is just top notch! Would highly recommend this place any night you're free! This place opened in 2022 so fairly new but it's definitely a local bar. However, it's only a 10-15 min uber ride and totally worth it!

Yelp
We stopped here for a cocktail after dinner. From the street, this place definitely looks cute. But once you step inside... it gets even cuter. BUT! go enjoy your cocktail on their back patio. It was literally the most charming patio I've seen in a while. Okay so besides the ambiance, they have a cocktail menu with many different, unique cocktails. We had a hard time choosing. We finally found some cocktail and placed our order. The service was amazing as well. If you're looking for a cozy spot to enjoy a cocktail, check this place out! They also have outdoor heaters in the patio around for when the weather gets cooler.

Yelp
Bar Pompette is a gorgeous French cocktail bar with the coziest back patio. Surrounded by tall walls and gigantic fairy-light lined trees, stepping out the back makes you feel like you've stumbled into an intimate secret, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The cocktails were all fantastic. We tried most of the drinks on the menu that night and they were all top tier. One of the standouts is the silky Nitro Colada, a beautifully executed elevated Pina Colada. 11 am in Marseille was also phenomenal. The service was very professional and courteous. The small bites were delicious. This is the perfect date spot to take someone you really like. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This is a fantastic cocktail bar right in Little Italy! Amazing drinks selection, all curated with unique flavours and ingredients. They have snacks you can order as well - I had the ricotta which came with bread and was super tasty. Wish I took photos of the drinks! I tried the Hive Mind, the Paloma Quemada, and the Peat and Pit. They were all super tasty but the Paloma was definitely memorable and had a really nice blend of flavours. Service was lovely and friendly too. I'll definitely be back and would highly recommend!

Yelp
There must be an inside joke somewhere about the name being replaced by pompous :) We liked the location and the patio so we tried it. Couldn't get out fast enough. The cocktails come in sample size glasses. The flatbread that says it has smoked eggplant, is actually a pita bread with a brown sauce on it and THAT is all the "Aubergine" that you're getting. The staff with their exaggerated french accents, although friendly, judge you if you just get drinks and appetisers but it's fine, because Casa Paco is right across the street and I rather take my money and appetite there

Yelp
Tasted great, perfect balance of tart, honey and fizziness. Topped with elder flowers. Good place to go to after a night at The Royal (right across) or their sister restaurant Pompette (great French cuisine) right around the corner.

Yelp
Felt like I was in one of my neighbourhood watering holes in Paris - great ambiance. Drinks were solid and the bartender was so engaging. Loved our time there.
