Bar Restaurante El Canton Santillana del mar

While the atmosphere was nothing special and the servers never smiled, the service was fast and THE FOOD WAS FANTASTIC! We only went to Restaurante El Cantón, because it was the only well rated place for lunch in Santillana del Mar that wasn't outrageously expensive that I could book online that morning (before getting on the road when restaurants weren't open to take phone reservations). What a pleasant surprise. I loved the grilled artichokes (alcachofas) and the hake (merluza) stuffed with scallops and shrimp (vieiras y gambas). My dessert was the best flan I've ever had. The wine and coffee were excellent.

Very happy with our dinner experience last night… super attention from the staffs, the food was excellent and the presentation of the dishes was really well done. Everything top notch and would easily recommend

My wife/I went here for dinner on a short break in Santillana del Mar. Nothing was particularly bad, but nothing was particularly good either. We were seated in a covered part of the terrace. It was a damp evening so this made sense. But we were surprised to find that the restaurant was almost empty, so really lacking in atmosphere. The service was functional, it worked as expected, but without any personal interaction. The food was OK. Large portions, but mediocre quality. Smaller portions and better quality would have been better. And it was too expensive, at just over €60. Although Santillana del Mar is a tourist town, and you expect to pay more, this felt like a tourist rip off. We would not go back.

We (group of 9) had a very good experience We were lucky to get a table on a very short notice. The service was very friendly and the last but not the least the food was exquisite. HIGHLY recommended

Great food and dog friendly both on the large sunny terrace and in the restaurant. Service was a little hectic, but this was due to understaffing. The waiter assigned to the tables inside did a fantastic job - especially considering that he was cover 7 tables, 2 of which were large groups! He deserves a pay rise and promotion!!

Very attentive service and gorgeous food. We had the scallops and sirloin steak. We’ve eaten three meals since being in Santillana and this is the best so far. Our dog was also made to feel very welcome with her own bowl of water. Personally I’d prefer not to see a TV with football on - it spoils the ambiance but that’s just my preference. I am sure a lot of people like to watch football while eating. One of the few restaurants to be open for dinner slightly earlier at 19:30. I would definitely visit this restaurant again.

Elegant setting, very reasonable prices, huge portions (share several dishes, the schnitzel would cover two normal dinner plates!) highly recommend! I gave five stars not because it’s a haute cuisine or fancy restaurant, but because for what it’s trying to do, it’s perfect.
