Bar Restaurante El Canton Santillana del mar

Very attentive service and gorgeous food. We had the scallops and sirloin steak. We’ve eaten three meals since being in Santillana and this is the best so far. Our dog was also made to feel very welcome with her own bowl of water. Personally I’d prefer not to see a TV with football on - it spoils the ambiance but that’s just my preference. I am sure a lot of people like to watch football while eating. One of the few restaurants to be open for dinner slightly earlier at 19:30. I would definitely visit this restaurant again.

While the atmosphere was nothing special and the servers never smiled, the service was fast and THE FOOD WAS FANTASTIC! We only went to Restaurante El Cantón, because it was the only well rated place for lunch in Santillana del Mar that wasn't outrageously expensive that I could book online that morning (before getting on the road when restaurants weren't open to take phone reservations). What a pleasant surprise. I loved the grilled artichokes (alcachofas) and the hake (merluza) stuffed with scallops and shrimp (vieiras y gambas). My dessert was the best flan I've ever had. The wine and coffee were excellent.

We (group of 9) had a very good experience We were lucky to get a table on a very short notice. The service was very friendly and the last but not the least the food was exquisite. HIGHLY recommended

Elegant setting, very reasonable prices, huge portions (share several dishes, the schnitzel would cover two normal dinner plates!) highly recommend! I gave five stars not because it’s a haute cuisine or fancy restaurant, but because for what it’s trying to do, it’s perfect.

This is absolutely the worst meal Ive had in years. They are completely unapologetic and couldn't give a fig. I recommend you avoid this place. If you want service you’ll get none. If you order fried artichoke you’ll get them covered in cheap mayo from a bottle. If you order an Aberdeen Angus burger .. please go to MacDonalds or you will not be able to eat the rubbish they produce. Honestly Scintilla is a bit disappointing! Its just a tourist trap and rather over done. A lot of rather less than charming Spanish people. If you want to walk then do your research before as the Tourist info cannot give you walking maps but Komoot and others are useful. Oh by the way nothing really opens til 11am. Laurie Lee wrote it as it is!

We got there late, almost too late. There were so many other diners, and the kitchen was almost closed, but our server eventually took very good care of us and was really cool. We had a huge steak, a la piedra. And it was delicious.
