Super cute place with delicious food. Charming atmosphere in an old building. Weight staff was super friendly, although not always attentive or fast. Cazuela surubi and chipa guaso were amazing

The best restaurant in the worst neighborhood of Asuncion. This is one of the few areas in the city where, especially at night doesn't feel great to go walking (although it is still completely safe), but as soon as you enter the San Roque - very much a restaurant rather than a bar, as the name otherwise suggests - you leave the city and the 2020s behind. Both the atmosphere, the decor and the menu feel like you jumped back in time to the 1970s or 1980s. The style is incredibly outdate, to the point of being endearing, but the place is very well kept and popular. The menu is pretty extensive, usually a bad sign, but if you read with care you'll notice it is actually a few ingredients in many different preparations, which is much better. Classic recipes include the ones that remained popular (breaded steaks, filet mignon, roast chicken) and the ones that have been largely forgotten and are now hard to find anywhere else (mostly offals). Portions are generous, food is impeccably prepared and very tasty, prices still very honest in spite of the growing popularity of this historic restaurant that opened its doors125 years ago (in the year 1900). What's not to like? Recommended!

I dined here on my trip to ASU as I heard that this was a landmark establishment and was walking distance from my hotel. When I arrived the restaurant was half full but by the time I left it was pretty full. The attendant let me decide where to sit. I had a tasty and very large portion of meat dish and it was delicious. With the main course and two glasses of wine, my bill was fairly reasonable. I will be back for sure.

Terrible service and tasteless food. Save you the trip. Meat was not tender and was chewy and that was a tasteless mandioca, red sauce on gnocchi tested like water with ketchup. Sopa paraguaya was TERRIBLE to the point I had to spitted out. Cesar salad and milanesa were ok. Service needs to improve as our waiter was in a bad mood and did not want to answer our questions and take the time to explain what everything was. Do not come!

Nice place to try empanadas, but just about that. The food is below average, the place is so old (I get it, they try to make it look like in the old days, but that doesn’t justify the dirt in this place), horrible decoration, and it’s not so cozy. The waiters are really friendly tho.

One of my favorites restaurants, have a delicious food, it's a historic place here in Asunción and I recommend this place if you are looking for a good lunch.

I recently visited Bar San Roque and had a fantastic experience. The hamburger was simple, but really delicious. The apple juice was freshly made from real apples, which was a nice touch. The restaurant was spacious and one of the oldest in the city, so it had a lot of character. I would highly recommend trying out their surubí, as it was one of the best dishes I've had in a long time.

One of my favorites. Old time feel, excellent service and good food. A locals regular spot. Will return so.
