On the Grid : Bar Seco

"Sipping your Sunday vermouth outside on the terrace is fast becoming tradition in Barcelona. If you want to follow the local trend and you happen to walk past the door of Bar Seco, don’t be fooled by appearances – although it looks like any other bar in Poble Sec, it’s one of a kind. Head inside and you’ll be amazed by the friendly service as you sample some of their freshly-made, ecological, 0 km dishes. And when you’re done, eat to our health with a hearty plate of wild potatoes – delicious!" - ZeClé

Great value lunch menu for EUR 16 including three courses and a beer. Bistro level flavours, caring about tiny details which make a big difference. The chef is Hungarian and very friendly. Our kids enjoyed the cold, refreshing soups and tasty deserts. We came back for a second time and would come back again anytime!

We stoped in after the usual “we can walk the entire city” American attitude got the better of us. While they were very busy the service and food was very quick all things considered. We were immediately welcomed, conversed with and served some of the best food we have had in 2 weeks in Spain! There is only one chef and you can tell he loves his food. We would be regulars if we lived here! Thank you so much.

Great time spent at the Bar Seco after a visit of the Castle Montjuic. Climbing down from the castle to the Seco took us about 30 minutes but was chill and just the right thing to work an appetite. The terrace has the usual 10% extra fee so we ate inside and the food and service were really great. We started by sharing some plates and followed by ordering some bigger bites like the Tuna tataki or the veal burger. Nothing was disappointing, quite the opposite and very fairly priced. I really recommend a stop here for drinks and a meal, waiters are very friendly and speak English fluently.

Our last night in Barcelona, Catalonia was the pinnacle of what was nothing short of a brilliant trip because of Bar Seco. We'd just arrived from Ibiza and were returning to the States the next day. We stopped here during our evening walk for an espresso and sangria. The atmosphere was nothing short of amazing! Everybody seemed to know each other, as if they were family and that is how they treated us as well. To our Bar Seco friends, we've been unsuccessfully trying to duplicate your sangria, which was the best we'd ever had. Thank you for the amazing chocolate ganache and thank you for the brilliant espresso. But most of all, thank you for being so warm and welcoming and making us feel like family. You made our 40th anniversary so very, very special! William & Elizabeth Kiefer

Great food, freshly prepared and variated, with a Middle Eastern touch. Good draft beer and friendly staff. The tables outside in the sun are a welcome treat in spring.

Great food with amazing and fresh produce. Nice atmosphere inside as well. Price is fair for the quality you get. Shared two tapas, had a 2 course menu and a drink for a total of 20€. Highly recommend

Excellent place to stop for a meal or tapas. The Vermut is outstanding (we had two servings to confirm how good the first was. For us, it was a destination on the way down from Montjuic Castle, but there's no need to go that far before enjoying Bar Seco. The Patatas del Seco and the Croquettes were both very tasty. Spacious patio in the square out front and a cozy space inside. Hoping to pass by again during our time in Barcelona for more vermut.

Yelp
Don't be fooled by the negative reviews of this quaint neighborhood eatery - they were for the previous owner. Bar Seco is a delightful neighborhood place, with mostly-local or regionally fresh raw ingredients made into just like you cook for yourself you only had the time. I ate here several times on my recent trip to Barcelona & particularly enjoyed the menu del dia. This gave me three courses for only about 15€ all in all. Started with a warm goat cheese and tomato salad. Wow! I thought That I didn't like tomatoes but I have not had fresh and rape local tomatoes in forever. These were amazing! They were lightly seasoned. Warm goat cheese was placed on top. Already almost full, I was glad that the portion of my curry entree was sensible, but filling! my friend had vichyssoise and a pork main. She said they were light and delicious. Topped off with coffee and dessert - what a treat. There are a few tables outside with umbrellas for shade. It's fun to see the local ambience of kids and neighbors going by. Definitely a delicious spot to stop in and eat for any time of day. TL/dr: tasty neighborhood go-to for fresh, simple food.

Yelp
I love the atmosphere here! The food was great, drinks were very well done and beautiful! And if you don't speak Spanish well everyone here, especially the owner speaks English. If you have diet restrictions they have gluten free and vegetarian options. It a very friendly place!

Yelp
We happened to wander by this little gem after visiting Montjuic and were not disappointed. We ordered from the menu del dia. My daughter and I had bombas and hamburguesas, while my husband and other daughter ordered salads and vegetarian lasagna. The menu also came with a drink and chocolate cream for dessert. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming too. Definitely worth visiting on a trip to Barcelona.

Yelp
First meal in Barcelona! Coffee was to die for- get the cappuccino! Had scrambled eggs with asparagus and spinach. The poached eggs with pumpkin was delicious. Definitely a cute spot to grab a bite if you're in the area

Yelp
I am an American tourist and the Bar was a highlight of my stay with my boyfriend Ben. The staff Paul, Nazir, Alice and Diego made us feel so welcome and gave us the best tips on restaurants and beach destinations. Plus the food and cocktails were superb! Cannot thank this special Bar Seco enough. Mucho Gracias!

Yelp
We arrived a bit too early for lunch (kitchen opens at 1), so we took a walk and returned at a more appropriate time. Worth holding out for. Excellent selection of vegetarian burgers, served with a simple yet delicious salad. Good beer selection. Bartender made some nice recommendations and was very patient with our not so good Spanish. Cool crowd, fun vibe. Kids and dogs welcome. There is outdoor seating with table service right across the street. Just check in with the bartender first to place your order.

Yelp
Cafe Seco has both indoor and outdoor seating on a quiet corner sidewalk plaza nestled next to the slopes of montjuic adjacent to the interesting refugio site. The glass walls give the cafe an open airy ambiance and provide lots of light. The food is delicious and the vibe is friendly and relaxed. Bar Seco changed concepts a little 3/12 and added more food. It is a great local gem. I spent a week in the Poble Sec neighborhood and visited Bar Seco several times for breakfast and dinner - including a great post-Barca-v-Arsenal dinner.

Yelp
This vegetarian friendly burger joint is super cool. The food is fantastic. The atmosphere is great (a huge terrace). The locals seem to be regulars which is always a good sign. The menu is varied enough to return a few times. (The Thursday Tapas night is cheap, good food, and fun!)
