Just a week ago, Bar Spirit Forward was crowned India’s Best Bar in the 2025 edition of the 30 Best Bars India list, and that was all the nudge I needed to make my third visit—this time with the intent of finally putting into words why this place continues to stand out.
I visited on a Friday evening, and as always, one of the first things that made me smile was their thoughtful personalization—guest names chalked onto the table or bar counter. It’s a small touch, but one that immediately sets the tone for how intentional and guest-centric the experience here is.
Since my friend was delayed thanks to Bengaluru traffic, I started with the “What We Do In The Shadows” cocktail—an intricate blend of gin, mezcal, watermelon, passion fruit, citrus, vanilla yogurt, cherries, and Malbec. Visually, it was stunning: a deep cherry hue slowly infusing into the drink, almost hypnotic to watch. It felt like theatre in a glass. As always, their signature ice cube stamped with the unapologetic middle-finger symbol made an appearance—cheeky, rebellious, and unmistakably BSF.
Alongside the drink, I ordered the Lil Wrap—lettuce wraps coated in a bold Kung Pao glaze. Light yet flavour-forward, they paired beautifully with the cocktail and made for an excellent opening bite.
When my friend arrived, she opted for something custom-made, and the team was more than happy to tailor a cocktail to her preferences—vodka-based with basil and citrus notes. Fresh, bright, and perfectly balanced, it reinforced one of BSF’s biggest strengths: they don’t just serve cocktails, they listen.
Next up was the Hellfire—a punchy mix of house tequila, Aperol, calamansi and chipotle cordial, pineapple, lime, and finished with Doritos salt. The umami hit from the salt elevated the drink entirely, giving it depth, heat, and a savoury edge that lingered beautifully.
For food, we ordered the Crab Rangoon—crispy wontons stuffed with crab and cream cheese—and the Dak Bulgogi, smoky grilled chicken skewers finished with scallions and sesame. Both dishes were elevated by the same soy-based dip served alongside—tangy, refreshing, and incredibly flavourful. Honestly, it’s the kind of sauce you wish they’d bottle and sell.
Yes, Bar Spirit Forward is on the pricier side, but every element—from the storytelling in the drinks to the precision, hospitality, and creativity—justifies it. This is a place that knows exactly who it is and executes its vision with confidence.
