A friend was in town from the other side of the pond, so we hung out in the Village for the afternoon. It was a terribly hot day, so we ducked into Bar Veloce for a couple of beers and cold AC. It didn't disappoint. It was mid-afternoon and fairly empty, so we had the bartender's full attention. Unfortunately, I can't recall his name, but he was extremely friendly and attentive. I'll definitely be back.

Google
Great place for lots and lots of wine. Very fun spot, we sat out back and made sure we had bug spray so we wouldn’t het bitten, Valentin and Nicholas took great care of us. We were there for hours, and had some paninis as well which were fun and not hugely filling but enjoyable. I love it here, would happily come back again and again

Google
Beautiful spot! Noah was really kind and helpful. Great atmosphere for a date or catch up with friends or even alone. Happy hour is great and goes until 7. $7 wine glasses and $28 bottles.

Google
We had the best experience here . The service from valentin was amazing and the ambiance was great. The wine we had exceeded our expectations not to mention the food. I would absolutely bring anyone here!

Google
We stopped to grab a salad and was pleasantly surprised to have the best brusheta with figs and prosciutto. We also had an excellent arugula salad with meat and cheese.

Google
Great spot for happy hour drinks. Kind of expensive if you go outside happy hour. Bartenders were very fast and friendly.

Google
Best wine bar in nyc. Well 2nd best ;) the chelsea bar veloce location will always be #1. Order the Lambrusco 🍷! You can’t go wrong

Their happy hour is an absolute delight and their salads are what dreams are made of

Yelp
Love the vibe however the wines have too much of a bite I ordered the Nerello and super tuscan cab merlot blend. The staff was warm and welcoming which i appreciate

Yelp
We stopped by here for a quick drink while waiting for our reservation. It was decently full on a cold november night, which was a good sign. Inside, everything was pretty dark and I found myself needing to use my phone light to read the menu. We got the stuzzichino trio and two reds. The server bought everything out pretty quickly. The trio was alright. I thought the olives was a bit hard for some reason. The reds were not bad but I can't say that it's a bar I would go out of the way to come back to. Yet, if you live in the neighborhood, I can see how it's a spot that everyone would choose to meet up at.

Yelp
I've seen Bar Veloce a few times and finally stopped in for a quick drink and small bite before an early dinner on a Saturday. The bar was pretty full but we were able to find a seat for three pretty quickly. It was pretty warm out so we all started with a spritz. I had a rosemary spritz and didn't love it. There was a strong artificial flavor taste that it left in my mouth. For my second drink I switched to a white wine and it was much better. Makes sense to order wine at a wine bar! We initially only were going to stay for a drink as we waited for more friends but ended up staying for two drinks. We grabbed a charcuterie and cheese board as well. All was good and reasonably priced. Server was very attentive and brought us out more bread as soon as we finished the first. He also made sure to quickly bring over another table setting when another person joined our party. Great service!

Yelp
After dinner drinks is always a fun time. This place got a lovely vibe and picks up more as time get later. I came with colleagues after dinner and still made it within their happy hour deals. We shared a bottle of wine and champagne. Low dim lighting, high seating (I'm a shortie), lovely service from the staff and gopd music. It did get louder/crowded later, but it was good times. Long line for the restrooms. Very mellow.

Yelp
$15.24 for a pint of Guinness that you poured as incorrectly as you could ever imagine. What a deal!

Yelp
Great place to catch a drink. Small bar vibe, convenient location. Bartender was great, he was serving probably 15 people at the bar himself

Yelp
Came on a Saturday night, such a calm and relaxing environment! Happy hour was until 7 pm - $5 beer $7 wine! Service was great.
google avatar

Yelp
We keep ending up here, and that's okay! Never actually a destination in its own right, but good for a glass of wine and even a snack before a late reservation in the area. There always seems to be a pair of seats, service is efficient, if brusque, and the noise level is conducive to conversation. Wines by the glass are decent for the price, and a panini with fontina and mushrooms took the edge off. You could certainly do worse!
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
I had a wonderful time here! I came on a Saturday night to have wine with a couple of friends. It was very spacious and it never got overly crowded so it made for a comfortable hangout spot where you could hear the conversation you were having. I tried the pinot noir and the montepulciano and both were great!

Yelp
Decent covered kind of outdoor spot. Kentucky clipper, martini, and wine were all fine. Didn't get a chance to try the food this time.

Yelp
me and my friend were so disorderly and the bartender was such a champ about it. He really nice and made great drinks thank you!!

Yelp
BV (may I call you BV?) is a charming wine bar with a more adult feel than the bars in the vicinity. Let me first say that the owner, Frederick, is a sweetheart! He quickly helped my friend and me organize an event here, reserved space, accommodated a large group, and even extended the happy hour deal for us to 9:30pm and on. This service alone made us excited to go! Second, the ambiance is cozy, dimly lit, not crazy loud, and great for just about anything, from a date to a large gathering. The space is long and narrow, with bar stools on both sides, so it could get a little tight, but it's not uncomfortable. There's not a lot of seating, so you may have to wait if you come during peak hours. Third, service was fast and unpretentious, and held it down. And last, everyone seemed to love the wine. The usual happy hour deal ($7 per glass of wine 4pm-7pm) kept everyone going there for a while. Keep this place in mind for a more stylish spot for drinks or small plates after work or school. Great local business!
google avatar

Lou C.

Yelp
Great little spot, not touristy, lots of locals. Drinks are priced consistent with other Greenwich Village spots, server was very friendly and the atmosphere was very cool and laid back. A nice small plates food menu which we'll try out when we return!

Yelp
I've been coming to this place for a few years and they have the best wine happy hour in the village. Highly recommend to come early to secure a spot for some delicious wine and great time!

Jamie F.

Yelp
Great vibe !!! Love it service was great -- got the spritz drinks were very good also the barback was so cute!!

Yelp
Staff gave away my cc to someone else - never happened before. Staff pretty unapologetic about it - owner seems nice about providing some form of comp (free drinks) but then disappeared and no longer committed to anything
google avatar

Yelp
Adorable wine bar with $7 happy hour. I have yet to try the desserts here but may indulge in the future! There's not a whole lot of seating - bar stools at the bar and a handful of shelf tables with some additional bar stools if you're coming with a group of 3-4 people and don't want to sit at the bar. In classic NYC fashion, the space is very small especially if it is crowded. PS. Bottle of rose is $48.

Yelp
This was first time at this location; although, I have been to the East Side spot several time. The layout is nice and it gets a lot of nice natural light. I stopped in while waiting to meet people for dinner in the neighborhood. I took at stool at the bar. I was "greeted" by the bartender, Shawn, who rattled off the happy hour specials at a speed I cold not follow. I thanked him and reached for the wine menu. He told me that everything in menu was full price -- as though I could not deduce that for myself. I ordered the chianti and went to put the menu back. As I did so, Shawn took it from my hand and placed it back the "correct" way. I then received a really meager pour of wine that cost $16.00. It was good; what little there was. I don't plan to come back. Despite living in the City for 17 years, I do not subscribe to the philosophy the if the prices are expensive and the staff is rude, it must be a good spot.
google avatar

Patrick O.

Yelp
Classy, unfussy, thoughtful service. $7 happy hour? What are you waiting for? The bartender was kind, courteous, and prompt. I would come back again and again, the end. Thanks friends perfect way to end my trip to the city.

Yelp
Cute spot with a good selection by the glass. Definitely recommend for a drink before, or after dinner

Olivia H.

Yelp
There's a reason this place is always empty. Went to grab a drink with a friend after work and was met with a bad attitude and sense of disinterest by the bartender. We left after he ignored us for almost 15 minutes. There's lot of great bars in this area so highly recommend skipping this one.

Yelp
I've been to Bar Veloce before with coworkers for Happy Hour. I think they offer select wines for $7 a glass. We opted to sit at the bar since we were just there to have a drink before dinner. I had the rose and my friend had a glass of their Prosecco. I liked my rose and I think she enjoyed her Prosecco. They were cooking up something that smelled SUPER good behind the bar, but I wasn't sure what it was. Service was fairly attentive and the bartender was friendly. No complaints here. If you're in the area and in need of a spot to grab a drink, I highly recommend Bar Veloce.

Yelp
As I emerged from the Spring St. subway station on a sunny but windy afternoon, I thought to myself, "What am I going to do?" I was 45 minutes early for my dinner with my friend and had time to kill. I had two options: 1.) Get coffee and look at my phone. 2.) Get drunk and look at my phone. As I toyed with the two options, I passed Dominque Ansel. Ahh, yes. Dominique Ansel. I had already spent eight hours of my life getting cronuts and figured, sure, why not go here. I went in, only to find (surprise) a long line. I figured I could wait because the line wasn't that long. For some reason, after waiting 10 minutes, I couldn't seem to stick it out. In my head, I calculated, I'm going to end up spending $10 for coffee and some sort of food that is going to fill me up before dinner (I can't drink strong coffee on an empty stomach and although I hadn't drank it before, I assumed the coffee would be strong). So I jumped ship on the line (which hadn't moved much) and started yelping happy hour places. That's how I came to Bar Veloce. The decor inside, I found to be simple and lovely. It's an italian wine bar using a lot of wood. I like wood. Like tree wood. Get your mind out of the gutter. Ok, mine was in the gutter and now yours probably is too. Unless you're innocent minded then don't go looking for what the gutter minded meaning is otherwise you'll be joining us gutter minded people... I'm digressing. Okay... I'll continue with the review: The decor was beautiful and they were having happy hour on prosecco! I wasn't even aware of the happy hour special but the bartender graciously informed me. The glasses are $7 and they tasted great. The bartender even recommended a great red wine that I loved and took a picture of. I didn't catch his name but he was great. He was very friendly, easy going and easy to converse with plus his attire was a major plus (he was wearing a bowtie folks, love it). I didn't look at my phone as much as I had thought I would while I waited for my friend. Four glasses later, I was pretty lit. I could've drank more, I'm not sure, but I had a great time. My friend came eventually and probably judged me as I tipsily spoke louder and louder. I'm sure everyone judged me. That's okay, still had a great time. I would definitely go back here for more drinks and more appreciation of this great wine bar with the great service.

Yelp
Weirdly bad service? My friend and I grabbed a bottle of wine after seeing a movie nearby. We ordered food which was extremely subpar but fine. The vibe is very "classy airport bar" but it was not crowded on a street that is normally heaving with people. We had two bottles of wine and food and closed out our sizable tab. When I went to pay I was told they were doing last call. I didn't take that as a hint that they were closing soon. There were still customers inside. While we were about halfway through our second bottle, the bartender came up and abruptly told us that it was closing time and we needed to leave. I asked if we could finish inside (perhaps a noise issue?) and he said "I dont care where you sit, wherever is fastest to finish the bottle." This was surprising. It was before midnight and there were about 12 customers inside the bar, additionally, we were being quiet and had clearly ordered more than most people. Nobody else seemed to be told to leave. What had been a nice discussion with a friend about surrealist French films was soured by his rude and seemingly bizarre manner.

Yelp
I stopped in here for a weeknight happy hour and this place was exactly what I was looking for. Their menu seems a bit pricy typically but during happy hour they had several more reasonable options. I got the rosé and liked it a lot. I really don't know the appropriate terminology for describing wine but I liked it because it wasn't super sweet and tasted light and fresh. I also got the truffle ricotta toast and it was very thicc with ricotta--it was such a large mount of ricotta that I could barely fit it in my mouth! The creamy ricotta was complemented by a generous splash of truffle oil which made for a salty, rich snack. I had only intended to get a little bite before dinner but ended up being full for hours after eating this. I would suggest changing up the ratio of bread to ricotta because I had a lot of leftover ricotta with no more bread to eat it on, but other than that it was exquisite.

Yelp
Nice place, a ton of wines, and very little liquor. We sat down and asked if they could make a tequila cocktail, and received a very rude response in the negative ("if it's not on the menu, I can just pour it on the rocks or add soda to it") from the bartender (Doug S). We sat at the bar and service was absolutely terrible (wasn't even that customer of a night). Maybe it was an off night, but the horrendous attitude and service from the bartender totally killed the mood.

Yelp
Loved loved loved! The friends I stayed with frequent this palce and it was perfect. The atmosphere is excellent.. really nice, pretty, cozy , yet not pretentious which can happen a lot in the Village. This is a great spot This is primarily a tapas restaurant. We got a variety of plates including; lamb, the potatoes, some sort of puff pastry with mushrooms in it and I hate mushroom, but they were good because it's more of a paste than anything. The wine list is extensive and they have a great happy hour as well featuring $7 wines. In NYC. Talk about a dealio.

Rachel L.

Yelp
If you actually like wine and decent service, DO NOT go. The server gave the wrong wine to everyone in my group and when the mistake was pointed out, she didn't understand why we cared about having the wine we ordered. We spoke with the bartender about it and asked or wine to be re-poured and he didn't understand either. We also ordered food which never arrived and when asked about it, she said she forgot to put it in the system. For a wine bar, they knew absolutely nothing about wine and couldn't even deliver the wine and food we ordered.

Yelp
I like to think I'm a pretty easy-going person. Food-wise, maybe a little hard to hit a 5 star, but certainly not hard to please. I write this one-star review more saddened that we didn't really get to try our first pick place and had to go elsewhere. A friend and I decided to come here because it seemed cool, had a decent amount of reviews, and looked relatively empty. It certainly has a classy feel to it. The width of the tables are really only a couple hand-spans, encouraging drinks more than food. Not surprising as the menus are almost all drinks with a section of complements to the various drink choices. All and all, we were excited to try this place We sat down at the narrow tables (not the bar) and who we thought was a waiter gave us water (warm) and a menu. After a bit of looking we had decided on what to order and patiently waited for the waiter to come back -- but he didn't. About 15 minutes pass and we find ourselves trying to make eye contact with the 'waiter' and when we finally do, he points us in the direction of the bartender, who was already busy at the relatively filled bar. I guess he wasn't a waiter. My friend and I thought it was weird, but if that's the way this worked, ok. So my friend goes up to the bar to put in our order, but finds himself waiting there for another 10 minutes. After talking to the lady next to him, he says she's been waiting for about 15 minutes with no luck. Not even a head nod of acknowledgement or comment of 'be right with you' from the bartender. Just confused waiting. Being a bit hungry and impatient, we ultimately decide to go somewhere else. I suppose just come here with time on your hands and perhaps the need to feel ignored, and you'll get just that. Perhaps make sure you get a seat at the bar, maybe it's better? I might come back, but honestly SoHo has so many options that you can easily walk around the corner and be served immediately. (which is what we did)

Yelp
Ripe, classic, Italian-centric NYC wine bar, from one of the originators of the NYC "wine bar" concept..... Often too warm, and low ceilinged, with one tiny bathroom, but always good, lesser known wine choices with consistent service... I would prefer the music turned up a bit, and some more fresh flowers around, but they know their spot better than me... The hidden gems here are not only within the wine but the Italian tapas type small bites as well..... The tuna bruschette with the pickled red onions is a steal at six bucks! WTF can u get for six bucks anymore? The crowd teeters on a blend of twenty-thirty something chicks, some gay dudes, and a few middle-agers..... If ye seek some obscure Italian grapes, properly served, within an old school NYC wine bar vibe, this spot pairs well with all that....

Yelp
AMAZING WINE PRICES ON SUNDAY Fantastic bartender and atmosphere could be improved for my taste.

Yelp
Bar Veloce is a very happenin' wine bar - perfect for sharing a drink or two with a friend or a date! It's tight inside, with crowded seating - optimal for 2 or 3 people parties. The wine list is pretty extensive, and the service is quick. We both had the rosé and really enjoyed - it had less of the distinctive pink color, but with that, less of a sweet and "girly" taste. It was easy to drink! We also shared a plate of cheese!! Name a more iconic duo, I'll wait. The parmesan cheese plate came with more than enough cheese, and was addictive. Somehow, the bread stood out even more than the cheese. The 4 breadsticks are served warm - they're easy to snap apart for crunchy + soft bites all at once. Definitely a spot to check out in SoHo!

Zachary T.

Yelp
Favorite happy hour near SoHo. Great to sit by the doors/windows when the weather is nice. Good prices on happy hour wine bottles, and pretty decent stock.
google avatar

Jillie B.

Yelp
So...this used to be Bar Carrera, a really good Spanish tapas place. And now it is Bar Veloce, an Italian place with small plates. Same owners. The bar is nice. They updated it and behind has a more minimal look to it. So, I am going to be honest, I was really craving the old menu. They now have a one page menu of small plates, paninis and cheese platters. Not exactly a meal. Wine menu is comprehensive and they had good selection. The kitchen seemed to be one guy behind the bar. He was very nice and did a great job but its odd that its only him. Servers were really nice. The Nutella panini dessert with vanilla gelato was amazing. I would definitely go back but more as happy hour kind of thing.

Yelp
Stopped in for a glass of Borolo and had some olives while waiting our table at Domo Domo. Good wine and tasty olives. Will come back for more...

Yelp
Coming back. This is a great spot for drinks after work. I love that it's somewhat tucked away and cozy inside with great street views and some street seating. Their wine list was great with a nice variety to choose from. I secretly wanted cheese but I was with my Vegan friend, so I skipped out. Next time. Great vibe.

Kunal A.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible service. I ordered 2 glasses of wine. The bartender didn't even try to engage in any sort of conversation. He didn't even smile or say hello. He poured the 2 glasses. I paid the bill, and he said, "What's up with the tip? Most people tip 18%-20%." Did I tip a standard percentage? No. Why would I when he didn't even make the effort? Moreover, he literally just poured 2 glasses of wine in seconds. Had he made us cocktails, it'd be an entirely different story. He made a fuss about the tip. He said, "Most people tip because they have a good time." I said, "I just got here and ordered." He said, "You should have paid at the end then." He proceeded to tell another customer about it while putting away the receipt and capped off his performance by refusing to give me 2 glasses of water after I asked politely. I hate places where the workers think that they deserve a tip regardless of the level of service. They just feel entitled instead of being professional. If you want to make a service charge mandatory, that's fine. Put it on the menu. This bartender wore dark glasses with a thick frame and has a tattoo near his wrist. There are so many bars in the city with professional bartenders. Avoid this one at all costs.
google avatar

Arthur A.

Yelp
Good wine selection and very helpful sommelier. Food was just ok, though I liked the tomato bruschette. Seating is set up almost entirely for groups of four. Bar area is pretty chill. Sitting toward the far end will put you where the food is prepared.

Yelp
I think this location is better than their East Village location. Came here for a going away get together and we all got prosecco. The set up here is small, but it's cute and they have a good selection of things.
google avatar

Angel P.

Yelp
Great place, I came with some friends and had a great time. Good drinks, great desserts. I do not why it is not more popular, but still a great option if you are looking for a nice place with good music and nice drinks.
google avatar

Anna F.

Yelp
My husband and I passed by this bar nearly every night we were in NYC as it was just around the corner from where we were staying. We finally made it in our last night and really enjoyed our cocktails. I know this is a wine bar, but we rebelled and got cocktails instead. I had the ginger island storm which has rum, ginger and prosecco to top it off. I loved how the prosecco added that carbonated fizziness. Jesse was a great bartender. There were some unpleasant patrons next to us, but luckily they left and didn't ruin our expeience as everything else was great.
google avatar

Larry G.

Yelp
Great bartender - personality, style and service with a deep knowledge of his well drinks, his liquors and music. Served us some apps, hits and misses, with a good knowledge and care for the menu. He does Veloce well well at what would be an otherwise uninspiring stop on Houston. Thursdays. Good night to go to Veloce on Houston after shopping at Rafetto's next door. But as far as Veloce goes, The 2nd Avenue location has a lot more going for it. Separate review coming.
google avatar

Judy F.

Yelp
Ehh cuz I didn't know it's a wine bar only. I haven't gotten into wines yet. But yes, it's a nice quaint place. Lots of communal tables, smaller tables and bar seating. It also serves food. The wine servers provided me a sample, before I asked to be served a glass.
google avatar

Natalia V.

Yelp
Are you tired of shitty drinks for Manhattan prices? This place looks a little basic on the outside with busy Houston St traffic, however it's an oasis of peace and very charming interior once you make your way in. The staff is very professional and friendly, I came on a busy Halloween parade night and was not left waiting too long. Happy hour is 4pm - 7pm with rosé, prosecco and other tasty wines. Wine quality is outstanding!
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
This place is soooooo cute! If your looking to have a glass of wine after work COME HERE! $7 happy hour specials and cute cheese platters! Super chill place to hang out. Dog friendly!!!!!
google avatar

Justin C.

Yelp
What a surprise find after dinner with friends at Arturo's. The ambiance is romantic. I am in love with their walls installed with mirror. Sean, the bar tender, was polite and sweet, as he answered all my questions about the cocktail which they served. The drinks, Negroni Gin, tastes so exquisite that I would say this bar is by far my favorite place in NY!

Yelp
Me and a few other friends ended up looking for a bar at 10pm just to catch up since I was visiting NYC for the day. At first we went to a bar a 2-3 blocks away but it was too crowded and had no seating so we looked elsewhere. We noticed that this bar was completely empty so we decided to come in since it looked classy. Since we were just looking for a quiet place just to chat over a few glasses of wine, we thought this place was perfect. If you're looking for a high energy bar with dancing this is not the place for you. We ordered two bottles of wine to share (a riesling and pinot grigio) on the cheaper end of the menu. The pinot grigio was the lightest wine I've ever tasted--I didn't particularly like it but luckily two of my friends are lightweights so they appreciated it. The bartender was also very friendly and served us well with new wine glasses for each bottle. For what I was looking for, this bar was perfect. It gave us a quiet place to enjoy a few glasses of wine together and talk. We didn't need to yell or strain to hear each other and while it was empty when we arrived, a few other groups came in afterwards.

Yelp
Visiting from Atlanta, went to bar Veloce with my husband and Nephew who works in the area. When we entered bar Veloce we absolutely loved the atmosphere, however, our warm feelings were promptly destroyed by the bartender, Shawn P. I asked about his bourbon list and my nephew inquired about mezcal, whereupon the bartender informed us that this is an Italian wine bar, we don't have lime, and we can't make any cinco de mayo type drinks. This statement was delivered in a nasty and condescending tone. Due to the rain we didn't want to leave so we ordered cocktails from the list (they did in fact carry liquor). When Shawn poured our Manhattan's he spilled some and he left it there, we had to ask for a napkin to wipe it up ourselves. I am giving 2 stars because the drinks were decent and we otherwise loved the cozy atmosphere.
google avatar

Sabina D.

Yelp
Shawn was incredibly friendly and hospitable. He recommended the best drinks and helped deal with unpleasant customers with ease and sophistication. We really appreciated how he managed to deal with an especially rude customer who was being rude to others. shawn
