Bar Yoshi

The food was incredible. Service was outstanding and the atmosphere was perfect for us to kill 1.5 hours waiting to board the ferry. We had the chicken steak and shrimp yakitori and all were so tender. The lobster lo mein and the tempura shrimp roll with salmon on top and spicy tomato sauce were specials and were lip smacking good! The painkiller drink was a perfect blend and for a change a mixed drink not too strong for me. The Seas and Desist was also very good. Expensive but worth it.

Wow! What a great spot! We never made it into the main building but the smaller side building they call O Bar was so fun. We made it our regular spot during our week on Nantucket. We tried many other places but O bar had a vibe and service that made it hard to beat at the end of the day (or whenever we wanted a drink 😂). Food was top notch, drinks were amazing.. great variety of cocktails, I really recommend the painkiller. The service was always great, bartenders Sarah and Felipe really stood out and after visiting multiple times, with the place always busy, they were always kind, professional and quick! We highly recommend and will return again.

Snacked our way through Nantucket but the notable and most exceptional dishes here were the Ichiban roll and the chicken Yakitori! Yum! Cute spot and we got a great seat with a water view! Highly recommend!

By far one of my favorite restaurants i’ve been to on the island. Our server, Vlad, was very knowledgeable and attentive. He gave great recommendations and it was such a great experience! Wish we could have stayed longer but the host will come tell you that there is a limited time at your table. I understand though due to reservations.

nice location on the waterfront (pier)... food was wonderful... serving portions were nice for sharing... interior layout was good... service was great... a bit pricey... we walked in but looks like reservations are taken... the 4-stars is being awarded because it took a very, very, very long time to get seated as the hostess was more interested in chatting with a favored-customer than hosting new customers... will think very hard about returning to this place

Great Asian inspired little cozy place. Love the atmosphere. Waterview is available inside. The food was good - some dishes were great . We tried different sushi rolls and some of the main dishes. I loved the calamari and the shrimp tempura roll. The drinks were great. I loved my extra dirty martini. The service was great.

I absolutely loved my time at Baryoshi! I went for lunch and it was my birthday that day and the server heard that and after my DELICIOUS meal- he gave me a complimentary dessert with a candle and it was fantastic. The oysters were fresh and delicious the rolls were fantastic just the perfect rice to roll ratio. They are very dog friendly which made my time even better as my friend and I had her golden retriever with us. Next time I’m back on island I will definitely be back!

Had an incredible experience here. Sarah was our bartender at O bar and specially curated an amazing cocktail for us. She gave all of the best food recommendations and really made our night special. Would highly recommend!

Q. What is good at Bar Yoshi? A. Everything! Seriously, I mean that. Great prices. Great seafood. Great selection is alcohol if that's your jam. But most importantly they have a great selection of Asian fusion dishes. Wonderful staff. Seasonal, but always able to get in during summer tourist season, Resy or call directly. Out go-to if we cannot get into CRU. No negatives whatsoever.

This isn't your average sushi restaurant. Bar Yoshi has some seriously high quality ingredients, preparation is next level, and the outdoor seating area is so relaxing (and great for people watching). Service is generally attentive although not the best I experienced on the island. Definitely worth the price and I would come here over Cru for great seafood all day long.

Another gem on the island that has reviews that I don't quite understand! Everything we ordered here was perfect. We started with the scallion pancake with salmon and the shrimp Shumai. Both were special in their own ways and were very good. We then got the ichiban, California and dynamite roll. My personal fav was the ichiban. The fish was fresh and was presented perfectly. The amount we ordered was great for two people and will forever be a staple when visiting. Service was quick and ambiance was pretty being outside! Definitely recommend for some yum sushi!

Enjoyed dinner with the fam at Bar Yoshi. The shishito peppers are a must if they are available. Perfectly blistered and seasoned. Edamame app is a healthy serving and a toddler favorite the sushi rolls were fresh and also toddler approved. Service was very good. Server was attentive and Pleasant. Would visit again.

Food and service were great! We got the vegetable spring rolls and beef Yakitori for starters. Highly recommend both. I had the ramen with chicken for my meal and it was delicious.

Reservations are limited bc patio and bar are open seating. So glad we asked, so we knew to pop by for lunch. We were seated quickly outside across the way. Two glasses of Veuve and poke bowls - we're so happy. Service was friendly and attentive. Great spot to people watch. The tuna in the poke bowl was perfectly firm and cold. It's a huge portion. Same with the edamame. Biggest portion I've ever seen.

Had the most amazing time at Bar Yoshi!! Started with a cocktail at O'Bar. The raw bar was sooo fresh. When our table was ready Amanda came over and got us. She was the best!!!! I had to try a few apps because they all sounded so good. The piggy rice was to die for!!! And the calamari was crisp and so flavorful. Oh and the drinks!!!! I have never had a better margarita. They make their own mix fresh every day. Our server was very attentive and the vibe was great. Everyone in the place was having a great time. We tried a few rolls. The tuna avocado was my husbands fav. I had heard so much about the desserts (that are made from scratch on island!!!) we loved the key lime. We finished the night with espresso martinis. I can't wait to go back. Once the weather warms up we love sitting out on the patio. Honestly no better sushi spot on the island.

Never again. Went today at 1:30. Solo. Went to the bar where there were 4 places, only holds about 10. Was going to order to go for myself as I was on a mooring working. Was told by the bartender she couldn't do that. I said Ok I'll eat at the bar. 5-7 minutes later she took my drink order but followed up by saying that they are backed up if your ordering sushi. The thing is....i wasn't ordering sushi. I left while she explained it to other customers at the bar. I wouldn't go to this place if it had the best sushi or anything anymore. Went two weeks ago. Spent 125 for myself on takeout. Forget this place.

Come for the sushi, stay for the plates...Yoshi has always served up great sushi, but the Piggy Rice and the ribs are not to be missed! Lively atmosphere on the wharf and attentive service.

What began as a lovely evening quickly turned into one of the most unsettling restaurant experiences I've had. My friend and I came in hoping for a quiet night of good food and drinks--and at first, it was exactly that. The bartender/waiter serving us was warm, attentive, and genuinely brought joy to our table and those around us. With barely anyone else in the restaurant, his energy helped fill the space in the best way possible. Unfortunately, the evening took a very upsetting turn. The owner, Terry, suddenly walked in and publicly reprimanded this kind and professional server--right in front of us and other guests--for reasons that were baffling. He claimed the waiter wasn't doing his job, when in fact he was doing it beautifully. The tone Terry used was aggressive and humiliating. He went as far as sitting the server down outside and berating him to the point of tears. It was deeply uncomfortable to witness, and frankly, unacceptable. No one deserves to be treated that way--especially not in front of customers while doing their job well. We were so disturbed by the interaction that we looked up the owner afterward and were not surprised to find a trail of lawsuits and troubling reviews that reflect a pattern of unprofessional conduct. We won't be returning--not because of the food or the atmosphere, but because of the way this manager chooses to treat his staff. If you value respect and human decency, you may want to think twice

AMBIENCE 5 SERVICE 5 FOOD 5 This island gem & (its sister O Bar) never disappoints. Doesn't matter if we are seated inside or out, sunshine or clouds. Bar Yoshi is always a grand idea!

The food was mediocre at best. Seated at a table near end of bar. Waitstaff were all gathered around and laughing and talking very loudly right next to us. We each ordered one app. then left because it was so loud/unsettling. While sitting in a different little restaurant a few minutes later-hostess from Yoshi-called to ask if we were no-shows?! Apparently when we checked in for our reservation, they checked in the wrong party.

Great service atmosphere and food! Get the piggy rice! It was delicious! Can't wait to go back!

I had the most amazing experience at Bar Yoshi last week. The drinks, the service, the atmosphere were all incredible but the STAR of the show was their manager, Andressa. Upon arriving, she was beyond welcoming, checked in on us a few times to ensure that our drinks and food came out to our liking. Also - their espresso martini is hands down the best on the island and 10/10 Instagram perfect. Thank you Andressa for an unforgettable experience!

Service was outstanding, food was very good and the location right on the wharf was awesome. The vibe is spot on. Definitely bring your check book if you plan on getting a lot of food. The avocado role is like $25 which for what you're getting is absurd.

Food and drinks were excellent, but service was above and beyond. Vlad deserves a raise!

First of all this is for management to consider. Ambiance and service was fantastic. I'm sure the chefs are great as well. But whomever thinks the sushi and the sushi portion's are acceptable need to reconsider the head chef position. I have had better sushi at the local supermarket takeout. They could have just purchased takeout sushi and put it on a plate. They also sell sashimi, in 3 slices. Three slices? Who does 3 slices unless it's part of shrinkflation? And each sushi roll barely has any actual raw sushi in it that you need to really look hard to find it. Our group comes from California so maybe this is just the Nantucket over priced experience. My recommendation is the skip anything raw and go for the rest as all the other food was terrific. Skip the sushi.

It's always our go to when we arrive on Nantucket. This week, their yakitori and Ramen bowl sure hit the spot. But you can't go wrong with the Nantucket Bay scallop tacos, my go to at Bar yoshi the service was attentive, and the crafted cocktails hit the spot and a chilly Nantucket spring evening.

I will never come back here. Went here with a group of friends and we were denied alcohol because the staff thought we were underage when we are all 23-25 years old. I have also fined here multiple times. Beyond rude. Handled so poorly. Staff was rude, besides our waiter Percy who was very nice. We had to have a police officer come and prove that we are of age in order to be served alcohol. It's a shame because the food is pretty good. I've never been treated like that at a place before. They gave us complimentary champagne to apologize but gave us a drop in each glass. Not cool.

This is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants on the island. I have never (not in four years) had a less than stellar meal here. The presentation and food = outstanding, but what really makes the place special = the staff. Attentive and knowledgeable, they will make you feel like you are the only table they are tending to. Two standouts are Vlad (request him!) and Amanda. Wow! We ate there twice during a four-night stay and both meals were exceptional. Amanda and Vlad contributed to such a great experience. We also tacked on a few drinks at the bar and an appetizer when we arrived. Bartenders are some of the best on the island. I love this place and we know good food coming from the DC restaurant scene. Make a reservation when on island. You will not regret it!

Yes. Just yes. This place was hyped up to me and it knocked it out of the park. The piggy rice was amazing. The ribs, amazing. The sushi, amazing. Our waiter was also super friendly and open. He gave great recommendations. Reservations were full but they have lots of walk up seating and we didn't have to wait too long for a table. Granted we went early which probably helped with the wait. I can't wait to come here again

Someone already mentioned about the sushi being worse than supermarket sushi- the fish and hard rice were lukewarm! The U8 shrimp at $8 each were the absolute worst seafood we've had anywhere! They were tough, smelled old, and were very unappetizing! Another star knocked off for the unfriendly host.

Bar Yoshi is right on the water, and has a warm and cozy yet modern atmosphere. We stopped in for drinks and an appetizer. I had the Island Time cocktail, and it was nice, but could've used a bit more flavor. We ordered the Nantucket Tuna and Salmon rolls. They were great, fish tasted fresh. Would definitely come back again!

Worst dinner experience on Nantucket. Measly, yet incredibly expensive, bland sushi rolls. The sliced fish was paper thin and translucent. Do not get the rainbow roll, it was absolutely pathetic. And $30. But what made the dinner 1-star (zero stars) was the terrible service we received at the bar. The bartender was rude, aloof, inattentive and dismissive of our concerns. Want some water? Expect an eye roll. She absolutely should not be in a customer service profession. Will not return and forewarn others who are considering going. The ambience and cocktails were fine.

Loved bar Yoshi! The hostess was super nice and the bartenders were very helpful with giving samples of the wines. We waited at the bar for about 15 minutes (we did not have a reservation and had a party of 8) before we were seated at a table outside. The sushi was just the way I like it and the atmosphere was superb

Went for a last minute, early dinner by the wharf. Originally, we were sat outside but after 10 minutes with no service we decided to go inside and sit at the bar. What a great decision, the bartender acknowledged us immediately and served water quickly. We started with the spring rolls which were crunchy, flaky, & well portioned. Next, we had the dumplings, and they were good. Lastly, we shared the Ichiban roll, most popular according to the bartender. It was great. We were in-and-out in 25 minutes!

Nas and Percy rock! Wonderful gentlemen. Wonderful servers. The food here is great. The location and ambiance are exceptional. Highly recommend. Can't wait to come back!

Great from start to finish! There was a short 20 minute wait to eat inside, we mentioned that we would look around at other options and the host offered us a glass of complementary glass of champagne - nice touch and it was the start of a great dining experience. Every dish was excellent, the service was great, and the chefs were fun and high energy. Great place!

The food was just out of this world. We got the dynamite roll, poke bowl, scallop tacos and wagyu bao buns and everything was a 10/10. Very good food and they made one hell of an espresso martini

Overall our experience at Bar Yoshi was great! The service was good as well as the ambiance. For our appetizers we ordered the crab rangoons and steamed pork dumplings and overall they were good appetizers but the crab rangoons could use more crab filling. For our entrees we ordered the rainbow roll, tempura shrimp and avocado roll, dynamite roll and ichiban roll. The fish was fresh and every roll was tasty. Would definitely come visit again.

I don't entirely know how to review this place. It was once a tiny little hole in the wall located somewhere downtown; today, it's on a major pier in touristville central, and the new space is sleek, with truly beautiful design elements, a wonderful place to sit and catch the breeze on a hot summer afternoon. Service could not be kinder. We had the nicest server named Carlos, who kept tabs on a huge number of tables and whose gracious personality wholly made amends for a slow kitchen. (They were unexpectedly mobbed that day.) What I don't know how to review is the food because I have a fundamental dislike of sushi nouveaux -- and that is what Bar Yoshi largely serves. But Nantucket has few other options for sushi of any sort, nouveaux or traditional. So... just throwing out some observations: - Bar Yoshi doesn't use sushi rice, but rather a Calrose-type of medium-grain rice. It was well seasoned and well prepared (to a good texture), however. Given the hot weather, I personally prefer a touch more vinegar. - The fish was of good quality, although there were some overly fibrous cuts in some of the maki. - Gyoza (slightly thick-skinned) and wakame salad were standard fare and enjoyable to us. - Nigiri is made larger than is standard in Japan, with a higher rice to fish ratio. The fish was quite fresh, the rice a bit more compact than what we prefer. - Ceviche was wholly inauthentic and underwhelming on the spice, but the ripe avocado was quite nice. There was a mistake somewhere in the pipeline and we received vegetable spring rolls instead of vegetable maki rolls. Our kind server gave us the spring rolls on the house -- and our bunch ended up liking them quite well. (The filling included glass noodles, tiny pieces of I think wood ear mushrooms, with a touch of lemongrass.) When the actual vegetable maki came, they included avocado and cucumber, but not carrot, which our kids happen to like (and which I remember as being part of the vegetable roll, here, in the past). It's fairly spendy for what it is. If you're a sushi snob with access to authentic, excellent sushi where you are, you're advised to avoid. If you enjoy new-fangled sushi (the kind with tempura, mayonnaise and such things rolled into your maki), made with fairly high-quality fish, then this is your place.

Worst place ever. We wanted to have a nice sushi dinner at our house on a Friday night. First off, they stop doing takeout at 5 PM and it's only by phone and "limited, first come first serve" So we drove 20 minutes and sat at the bar to make an order and asked to have it boxed up. The bartender told us they wouldn't do takeout and to ask the host stand for a takeout order. The host said sorry we don't do takeout after 5 pm. Unfortunately this place will never receive a dime from me for the rest of my life because they don't care about the customer experience. Not everyone has time to sit at your stupid restaurant and call in an order before 5 pm on a Friday. Terrible customer experience, terrible.

Of the many meals we enjoyed on island, this may have been the most enjoyable. The location is cozy, waterfront and comfortable. Not nearly as stuffy as other options in the area. The service was prompt and kind, helpful and responsive without being overbearing. The bar manager (Conrad) was kind enough to bring us a sample of their house daiquiri; DELISH!!! We enjoyed a few ice cold Grippah IPA's from the nearby Cisco brewery which complimented the cool, fresh seafood well. We started with the seaweed salad which was garnished with micro-greens and edible flowers. We both love seaweed salad and this offering was exceptionally fresh and the garnish furthered the refreshing nature of the dish. Definitely order this as a compliment to almost any other dish on the menu. With the seaweed salad, we had 4 oysters and 8 clams. All were very good and tasted fresh, though I wish the cocktail has a bit more horseradish for some kick! Overall, very good raw dishes. I would also order the tuna carpaccio/crudo next time, it looked awesome. After our initial orderings, we added 3 sushi rolls and 2 skewers of yakitori. All three rolls were outstanding. The tuna scallion was a notch above the standard tuna roll, a nice though minor improvement to a classic roll. I'd like to think the tuna was at least regionally sourced if not local to the island, however I did not verify the source of the tuna with any of the staff. It was delicious all the same. The Nantucket salmon roll was also very good, it was as fresh as salmon can be on the east coast. The dynamite roll was awesome. The best of the 3 rolls, topped with a spicy sauce. Would highly recommend any of these rolls, others on the menu looked good too. The yakitori was terrific. Both chicken and beef were well cooked with nice texture on the outside and moist, juicy on the inside. We didn't try the shrimp yakitori but I'm sure it's delicious, as well. I will undoubtedly return to Yoshi on future visits to Nantucket and hope them all the best!

Where do I begin. My brother and I used to frequent this place when it was Sushi by Yoshi. Food was always good, but the service sucked and staff was typically rude. I've come to Bar Yoshi a few times now, and the food has actually gotten worse. For $3 for each piece of sushi(around $20-30 per roll)it's definitely not worth the price. The restaurant also throws on an additional gratuity fee, separate of the tip, without disclosing it to customers, in lieu of paying their employees. They simply slap on a fee at the end of each check, in the hopes their customers won't notice. It's not the cost of the fee that bothers me, but the fact that I am being charged for something that was not initially disclosed- that's simply unethical. Overall, considering food, service, hospitality, and prices, I wouldn't recommend coming to Bar Yoshi.

Bar Yoshi made our night such a vibe! Bartender Justin shook up the BEST espresso martini I have EVER HAD. Amazing service in a cozy and lively setting. Highly recommend for any occasion.

I would go back to this place every night if I could for the smoked salmon app, haha! such a fun restaurant, great outdoor/indoor vibe, and ALL of the food was phenomenal. don't miss the smoked salmon app and the dumplings! Will definitely be back on our next trip :)

Wow. What an amazing meal and amazing ambiance! Outdoor seating is the way to go at this place. The food was fantastic and the vibe made the experience that much better! Highly recommend for yummy sushi and a good time.

My fiancee and I came here for her 30th birthday and were treated to fantastic sushi and drinks. We enjoyed the laid back and friendly service and would definitely recommend a meal here to anyone visiting Nantucket - we will be back :)

Nantucket has two main sushi places. Let's call this the no frills option. Sushi by Yoshi is about as down to earth as a Nantucket sit down place can be. Prices aren't crazy, portions are normal and the food is good. Sushi by yoshi was a great escape from the Nantucket scene. The best roll I had was a sweet potato roll that the waitress recommended we try. Drinks here were beer and wine. Most reasonably priced.

What a special place! I had an outstanding dinner. I was warmly greeted and seated at a table by the window. The location on the water was beautiful, and my server Mack was exceptional. I wanted something different than I would ordinarily order, and his recommendations were spot-on. The food was delicious. Because everything came together perfectly, this was my favorite restaurant during my week on Nantucket. Go- you won't be disappointed.

Service nice - pretty decor but seriously disappointed with the fish. Stop and shop Has equal quality. My neighbor commented -Lola has better sushi - was dying to try the updated space but all about sushi and sashimi (which they don't offer but have a few (3) ceviche?? Options!?? Idk-it's an island for god's sake-shouldn't the sushi and sashimi be mind blowing ???

One of the most spectacular meals I have had on island. Second time I have been to this establishment and I will definitely be going again before I leave. We went around lunchtime during the dead period so the service was quick and the place was not relatively busy. Our server, Conrad (who I believe is the manager) was excellent and was very welcoming and accommodating to any questions. The space inside is beautifully decorated and had great natural lighting. On the day we went, the specials were a scallion pancake topped with smoked salmon and calamari, both of which we got. We also ordered a shrimp tempura avocado roll and a salmon poke bowl. Scallion pancake (9/10) - Not sure the smoked salmon paired perfectly, but it was fantastic nonetheless. Not quite as good as Nautilus' scallion pancakes if you are looking for something truly amazing. Calamari (11/10) - Now, I am not sure if they offer this every day but if they don't, they should. This has got to be the best calamari I have had in my whole life. When it came, it looked a little inconspicuous and not like your typical calamari you would get - but boy was it good. My sister and I both looked at each other with wide eyes after trying it because it was just that good. This is a must have if it is available the day you go. Shrimp avo roll (7/10) - A little bland and pricy but I think the same can be said for everything on Nantucket... Liked the sauce on top Poke bowl (7.5/10) - Best (and basically only) place to get poke on island. The rice was well seasoned and the bowl had a good amount of toppings. Wide variety in choices for proteins. Salmon was great. Additionally, they timed the courses very well. A lot of time on island there will be a large lapse between the starters and the main course but the staff did a great job firing the main course after we finished the starters. I would recommend going not at peak times to get the best service. Shoutout Luna, our amazing back server!

We stopped in during COVID on a sunny Sunday afternoon in early September. We were immediately greeted by a young man and seated for lunch outdoors. The server was very polite and nice and took our order right away. We ordered the edamame, shrimp shumai, tuna ceviche, tuna and scallion roll and the tuna tempura roll. The food was delicious! We loved the sushi and everything seemed very fresh. My only note would be that the ceviche was served with a side of what looked like supermarket cheap tortilla chips, which seemed odd and kind of ruined the presentation. Other than that, everything was very good. I'm not sure why everyone is complaining about the service and ownership; we did not encounter any issues at all in that area. I would recommend for sushi and a delicious lunch spot!

I went to bar Yoshi tonight for dinner and I was alone with my small dog and have never felt more welcomed! The young professional hostesses knew exactly how to manage my seating with the addition of my dog and make sure we were comfortable and the other guests were comfortable as well. Food is amazing as always, and the service and the drinks are equally great! I highly recommend this place.

Sat inside with a reservation and had such inattentive staff. Drove in ready to take an Uber home and couldn't even get drinks. Vegetable spring rolls were good, dumplings were cold (unsure if that's planned). The chicken stir fry previously on the menu was the reason I came, but it's not there :(

People said in some of their reviews that this place was a 1-star restaurant because of a rude manager and poor performance in the food department, but actually it's not that bad. There wasn't even a rude manager... Our waiter was a really nice young man who checked on us often about the food and more water. For the food, I didn't mind at all! It wasn't low-cooked or over-cooked. It tasted pretty good for a Japanese Restaurant on an island. I gave it a 4-star only because the food was expensive. In NYC, the same thing I ordered (the Tokyo Ramen itself was $22) probably would have cost only $12.

Incredible sushi every time! It's on Old south wharf, a shelled street right off of the harbor. It is a very cool location and a great place to sit outside on a nice day. We dine there often.

Stopped in at 0'bar for a drink before dinner....super nice, quaint, on the water vibe (even though you are inside!). Bartender was very attentive even though we were not seated at the bar! Loved this atmosphere!
