The very best prague restaurant / pub you can ever imagine! Really. Great food, georgeous beer and fabulous service. Nice and quiet summer terrace / garden under grown chestnut trees with string lights. Dont miss this place, it is a hidden gem!

A cool slightly breezy patio will draw you in for an early dinner. Warm friendly attentive staff. I had a light soup and salad which was perfect, crips fresh colorful salad and mushroom and potatoes soup. Wonderful Moravian Cabernet Sauvignon.

Google
Wonderful place. Sometimes the best places a “difficult” to find (TG GoogleMaps!). The decoration and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. The staff great and the food was luscious, and the beer … OMG A must stop in Prague!

Update: I went today, and it was just like it was 25 years ago - old-school Czech food, great beer (now from Vinohradsky Pivovar, absolutely top-notch), friendly staff, and very reasonable prices. The decor hasn’t changed and it doesn’t need to, I really like the Old Prague vibe and can attest to the fact that it’s original, or at least it’s the same as it was in 1999. I love love love this place and am over the moon that it’s back! Original post: I am DELIGHTED to see that this place is reopening soon. It was one of my favorite haunts for many years, but my guess is that it fell victim to the pandemic like so many other restaurants in Prague. I will definitely come back next trip.

This restaurant was an amazing visit! It had just re-opened the week before we visited and we came for lunch around 2pm. Tucked away in a beautiful alley halfway up the hill to the palace, the food was exceptional, the atmosphere & decor was inviting, the staff were super friendly, the beer was tasty - absolutely excellent visit from start to finish. The meal came out quickly and the portions were just right - not too huge, not too small, excellent value. Would highly recommend the mushroom dill soup (came with delicious bread), the cabbage dumplings, the duck - honestly we didn't have a single bad bite and all 4 of us picked a different dish & starter.

Google
Lovely place with wonderful staff. They were so lovely and the food didn’t disappoint either. Its location so close to the city centre that you are shocked by the prices. 10/10 would come every day!!!!

Yelp
Our best meal in Prague. Delightful food, great service, excellent wine list...really perfect in every way. Not sure what else to say. I had the goulash and the gravy was...life-changing. My partner ordered the "King Skewer" and HIS life was changed by how delicious THAT was. Yum.

Yelp
Tasty dinner. It's down a quiet alley, has some outdoor seating. Typical Pilsners on tap. I had the chicken schnitzel for dinner. It was delicious, cooked perfectly. It came with mashed potatoes that were the most delicious I have had, super creamy and smooth. Everyone enjoyed their meal. A good dinner for the last night in Prague.

Yelp
Meh, wasn't actually all that impressed with this spot. The staff was a tad bit on the rude side and the food was good, just not exactly great. There is essentially a lot of indoor seating and a couple outdoor tables and this place gets reserved relatively quickly. Got in, ordered the pork loin and some potatoes. The loin itself was good, nice and juicy but the potatoes parties were a bit dry. The service pretty much sucked as the waiter seemed disinterested in helping customers and more interested helping himself. Overall, not a terrible place considering the food is good and reasonably priced but don't come expectations any sort of service... Pros- Location Non touristy Decent food Near outdoor seating Good menu Nice prices Cons- Terrible service Smoking Usually reserved so be prepared to wait Potatoes

Yelp
My husband loved the goulash soup in s bread bowl and the local beer. I enjoyed the risotto. Very authentic Czech restaurant with one exception, the service was excellent. Tap water available! Definitely recommend finding this great place. Honza and Petr were excellent waiters.

Yelp
Lovely Mom and Pop style Czech restaurant. The food was really good, some of the best I had while in Prague. The beer was also really great. We got a large pitcher for the table, which was ideal for us. It is on a very quiet, residential street, so walking there at night was a bit scary. It was four of us, so we ventured there despite the darkness and late hour. Once we got inside, it was apparent that we had lucked out. We felt like we were having a real Czech dining experience. It wasn't commercial and filled with tourists. The waiter spoke English, so that was a big help. If you are looking for something more on the fancy side, then maybe this is not the place for you. But a nice simple Czech meal, for sure! Overall, I'd be back if I was in Prague.

Yelp
Great traditional Czech food in a quiet neighbor. The environment makes you feel like you are in a country restaurant, not in the city.

Yelp
The meat platter was excellent. The sausage, duck, and pork were all good. The compliments of the dumpling, potato, gravy, and cabbage made the meal perfect. Add a pint of the local beer and you have yourself a very traditional Czech meal. The ambience of local music and local decor added an extra authentic notch. Service was very friendly and prompt. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We had a great time here. It was busy outside but empty and dark inside. We decided to wait for a table outside. I love watching the world go by, which was good because we waited for a very long time to eat once we sat. We had good beer (a really nice list) and good company so we didn't care. My husband noted that the waiter had numerous cigarettes while we waited for our food and we had to work hard to get his attention for more beer as well. We did hear a big crash in the kitchen halfway into waiting for our food. I suspect we lost a dish or two. The food was good once it arrived and we were famished. We had spent a long wonderful day at the Prague Castle.

Yelp
Fantastic place I found this place on yelp when I was looking for traditional Czech food. We started with the Beer cheese-nothing special but it had a perfect little taste to it. It came with a little side car of beer as well Paprika sausage-the mustard and the horseradish complimented this dish perfectly Beef goulash-delicious and hearty. It had a hint of cinnamon or cardamom in the sauce that gave it that extra pizzazz Duck with cabbage and dumplings. This was the real deal and it was amazing! Duck was perfectly cooked and the different kinds of cabbage and dumplings was great. One was like a potato style dumpling. Bread style. All fantastic. There is a little area outside with booths for a perfect Prague setting. We loved it.

Yelp
Awesome. Found this via yelp. Ate at another 'traditional czech' the day prior and were underwhelmed so we were happy to give a second go. Garlic soup, awesome. And strong. Just like God intended. Duck with dual sauerkrauts and dumplings, perfect. Goulash, near perfect. Some extra zing than most. Venison with the show stealer...mashed pumpkin! Amazing and delicious...everything! I will never eat plain mashed potatoes again. Service was excellent though the place was packed. We were one of two tables of tourists. The rest were locals. This place is a standout!

Yelp
Traditional Czech cuisine done right! A great place, tucked away off the Main Street that leads to the castle. We did a quick search for places to eat around the castle and I'm so glad we found ourselves here! We ordered a series of meat dishes but the star of the night was definitely the braised ribs. So juicy and tender! If I had to pick a death row meal, I'd pray this would be on the table! Served with mustard and fresh horseradish. I also thoroughly enjoyed the potato soup in the bread bowl. My friends and I ordered an app, a main , a couple sides and two pints of beer each and our bill was under $20usd per person. I think this may have been the best meal of our trip! The staff weren't super friendly and the waiter seemed preoccupied but man did the food make up for the service! I have sent every one of my friends who have travelled to Prague here and none have regretted it!

Yelp
Restaurant is located on a pedestrian only street. Have to walk uphill on Trziste a bit before you see it on the side. Traditional old school pub-like setting with wooden benches and tables. Very laid back and chill. Also, not too much lighting. There's free Wifi with solid connection. Service staff are pretty nice. FYI, cash only (Euro or CZK) so I had to go to an ATM to withdraw currency. Food wise, I had the beef bouillon and baked Czech duck with a half liter of Pilsner Urquell. Afterwards, got the Czech plum dumplings with butter and breadcrumbs. The Czech dishes were unique and not something I'm used to, but fairly delicious. Would recommend to tourists staying in the Mala Strana area.

Yelp
We came here for lunch after our Segway tour. It was hot as "you know what" and we sat outside. We ordered a beef dish, beef cheek, goulash and the pork knuckle. All our traditionally prepared dishes were delicious. Flavorful and seasoned perfectly. Also, the restaurant is located on a quiet, off the beaten path location. It's cute as heck. BTW, after I ate the entire knuckle myself, please note that in the Czech republic, it is typical practice to share knuckle with a few people and not for one person to eat. You can eat it alone like I did, but don't expect to eat for the rest of the day (or even next morning).

Yelp
It pains me to leave this review. I went to this restaurant based on a recommendation of The Hotel Constans In which we are staying. My friend & I both ordered the potato soup, and I ordered the snails. When our waiter brought the soup out he brought one potato soup & one goulash. When I said we both ordered potato soup he got extremely mad, took the goulash away, brought back the potato & practically threw it at me! Then here come my snails. He slams them down & says "are you sure"? That's when I said enough. The owner/manager was very apologetic. I walked out. Btw the soup was good but never again. Oh and also the waiter was doing some sort of shots with his buddies.

Yelp
Too full to write a complete review at the moment.... But do NOT miss this place if you ever find yourself in the Mala Strana area of Prague.

Yelp
We stayed at a little Airbnb very near this traditional Czech pub. When considering where to go for dinner, we noticed the big plates of good looking food on the tables outside as we checked in with our host. We decided to give it a try after an outside table was open for dinner complete with blankets if we got cold. The menu had some great options and we were both able to find a few things that we wanted to order to share. Wow, the food was amazing. We shared a bunch of things: Sausages, dumplings, goulash, green beans, and a few other things that I can't exactly remember. I know that we weren't disappointed with the food or beer and thought if we came back here any time soon, we would head here again. It seems like on the weekends they have big live music concerts in the huge downstairs area. So if that interests you, be sure to check that out too!

Yelp
The restaurant want empty but yet we were turned away because we didn't have a reservation. We had a long tired flight and we were hungry but yet we were turned away

Yelp
Waited 30 minutes to order and after ordering plenty of food and beer, the waiter got angry that my girlfriend had a water bottle and didn't order water from the restaurant. It was really petty.

Yelp
AMAZING FOOD and best service we've had in Prague (friendly, helpful, funny). It's quiet and local. Do not miss this. We took a risk and had the pork knuckle. Holy moly. It was spectacular. This was a truly wonderful experience. Beer Garden is being redone and opens tomorrow. We are bummed to miss it, but so glad we found this gem.

Yelp
Went to dinner here on our first night in Prague and everything was delicious. Would particularly recommend the beef goulash and the potato soup. Also the decor and the atmosphere are phenomenal!

Yelp
My husband and I dropped in for food here based on the Yelp reviews while we were in the area exploring the palace. Typical prompt, unsmiling Prague bar service but they got us everything we needed. I asked for tap water which should've cost 15 kc, but the waiter brought out a bottled water for 35 kc. Only a little more than a buck, but still he acted like I wouldn't know the difference. We each started with a soup, which tasted great on a cold afternoon in mid-October. The goulash was good and the meat was very tender. My husband ordered a steak and it was served rare (we should've learned this is how most Czech restaurants like to serve meat, unless requested otherwise). We ordered blueberry pancakes for dessert, which was was a nice ending to our meal. I would recommend this place only if you're in the area. The food is solid, but similar to what you can get in almost any other Czech restaurant. Reasonably priced. Above meal for 2 plus water and a soda costed us less than 700 kc. Other things to note: when you choose to pay by card, you have to pay the bill towards the back of the restaurant at the counter. Also, we got a table relatively easily at 12:30 on a Sunday in mid-October, but they started turning people away shortly after. The restaurant was only half full, though they claimed they had reservations. Google maps and apple maps might give you weird directions for a few passageways that does not exist. You just need to figure it out on your map and possibly walk around the interferences.

Yelp
Very nice restaurant at the top of a dead-end street. I ate at a table outside but the building seemed to be quite large inside. I had the pickled sausage (with sauerkraut and peppers) as starter and the stuffed (with cheese and plums) pork tenderloin as a main. Both were delicious and beautifully presented. The only off note was a somewhat stale roll in the breadbasket (but the bread itself was very fresh). They declined to take my credit card. Well, the waiter took it but then came back and said I had to pay cash; the card is a Visa, pre-cleared for international travel. He then said they would be happy to take USDs. World travelers will be familiar with this type of transaction, though somehow I didn't figure Czechia to be one of the countries where this sort of thing would happen [it often has to do with the "real" exchange rate]. The (multilingual) menu says nothing about it. And Yelp claims that they do take cards. Not a disaster, but be careful. But definitely go eat there, I'd do it again.

Yelp
We've been in Prague for almost a week and tried different places, both restaurants and fast food. Jesus, these guys are good. Hidden from the crowd and traffic, it's perfect and you can actually sit with people and talk to each other without having to constantly try to ignore the noise as you have to in other places which are located right on the crowded street. The place itself is not fancy looking. Also not very nice looking 'facilities'. However, the look of the place is never really important to me, and usually the best places are not fancy or good looking. The food. OMG the food is awesome. Domestic cuisine at it's finest. We had a potato/mushroom soup served inside the actual bread. After that we had marinated pork ribs. I couldn't get enough. A perfect meal in a hidden place! Just awesome!

Yelp
I wanted to take my Japanese friend to try some traditional Czech food, so this place was my quick choice. Food is great, prizes low and it is in Malá Strana, so beautiful walk after dinner. Both meals we had were great, she loved Svíčková especially. Only thing was poor service. We waited long for the bill. But we had Plzeň beer so waiting was not so boring ;)
google avatar

Byba s.

Yelp
The atmosphere is nice but they refuse to service Slovak people. I am a Slovak-American and I am proud to be able to speak their language when I'm visiting Prague. I should have spoken English to them. They refused to serve me outright. First the waiter said it would take an hour to get me a table, that he is busy. When we found a table - another couple was happy to share their table. The waiter came by to say it will be an hour until he can bring me a menu because he is that busy. It's not a huge restaurant - 1 hour is an exaggeration. I should clearly read it as "we don't want Slovaks here".

Yelp
Tasty food, excellent beer, good service at a great price. Couldn't ask for better, really. Ate here on a quiet Wednesday evening and had no trouble getting seated. I'd certainly come back.

Joel G.

Yelp
Best place I ate at in Prague. Of the three days we had there we ate there since for lunch and once for dinner. The chicken schnitzel was some of the best chicken I've had bar none. Highly recommended.

Christophe G.

Yelp
Next to the US embassy, this bar/restaurant offer an interesting and generous choice of meats. She had a 1/4 duck and I got pork ribs on green beans. Their beers choices are generous enough in my opinion. The restaurant isn't crowded but it only have large tables and booths and they had to dismiss some customers. So if you can, try maybe to call to make a reservation. The restaurant swims in a dark atmosphere, which is great to have a private diner or evening considering that only your booth will be illuminated. We would have appreciated a free Wireless connection for or mobiles phones.

Yelp
We stopped for lunch and we are so glad we are did. The "sparrow" dish was some beef dish that tasted like a ghoulish - Indian dish. It was fantastic. The beef cheek with sweet dill sauce was great. Beef goulash was delicious. Pork knuckle was huge and tender. Great price for delicious food
google avatar

Noam E.

Yelp
Really pretty good and reasonable prices. Had the potato soup in bread bowl for starters and then the traditional duck. Lot of food and well done. Wine glass was generous. Would recommend this place to others. If you want to sit outside you may need a reservation.
google avatar

Yelp
Had beef stew here with bread dumplings and it was delicious! Great beer and good prices for such a nice location right by the castle. Staff seemed pretty disinterested but I won't hold that against them -- just don't be in a hurry!

Michael S.

Yelp
Hidden away, but awesome. Great beer. I had pork's knuckle and ate as much as I possibly could, then the staff harassed me for not eating more, hilarious group of people working there. We also tried sausage, goulash, and some other great stuff. Felt like a traditional European pub. You will not leave hungry and you will not leave unhappy.

Rich B.

Yelp
If you are looking for an authentic Czech restaurant, this is it. Best goulash and potato soup! Live tradition Czech music!

Kate D.

Yelp
Excellent authentic Czech food with a wonderful atmosphere. The "real deal". I had the wild boar with rose hip sauce and dumplings and the house Bohemian IPA. Delicious! Staff was very nice and responsive when my companion and I asked if he could turn the music down so we could converse.

Yelp
Amazing place. I just stopped for lunch. The food tastes really good. The prices are quite fair. The staff is very friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Fantastic! Great proper Czech food served in a great atmosphere with real local characters for a great price. Plus Svijany, probably the best beer on Earth, 3 types on tap. I visit this place every time I'm in Prague. Do it! You won't be dissappointed.

Yelp
Love the Prague Allnighter Northern Soul events. Good beer and traditional Czech food. I like it because tourist do not know about it.
