Turin, Italy Travel Guide

"A historic café that embodies Turin's grand café culture and city salons; as one expert explains, "The historic cafés of Turin are true hidden gems... Entering one is like taking a step back in time to learn about past customs and traditions," with interiors of elegant mirrors, porcelain, and wood paneling that recall the city's 19th-century political and cultural life." - Laura Itzkowitz Laura Itzkowitz Laura Itzkowitz is a writer and editor based in Rome. While the cakes were delicious and the venue historic and rather pleasant, be aware! We queued for around 15 minutes for a table and then a further 30 minutes to be served and an additional 25 minutes for it all to arrive. Staff were not attentive, were quite rude, and it just seemed like general chaos only held together by the fact it's historic setting and tourists are their main custom. Take a photo from the outside, walk on by and find one of the many other good cafés within a few minutes walk. Waiting over an hour for a coffee/cake is just ridiculous!!

In the elegant heart of Torino, Baratti & Milano is a café that whispers tales of love, history, and Italian passion. This iconic locale, born in 1870 as a small confectionery shop, has been the stage for countless romantic rendezvous, intellectual gatherings, and sweet nothings shared over cups of velvet-smooth coffee and exquisite pastries. Legend has it that the café's founder, Giovanni Baratti, created the iconic "Bacio" (kiss) chocolate, a delicate blend of hazelnut and cocoa, as a tribute to the city's romantic spirit. Today, as you sip a cappuccino amidst the café's art nouveau decor, you can't help but feel the whispers of history and love that linger in the air. As the afternoon sun casts a golden glow through the windows, the atmosphere becomes even more enchanting. The perfect spot for a romantic tête-à-tête or a sweet escape from the world, Baratti & Milano is a place where time stands still, and love is in the air. Whether you're a hopeless romantic, a history buff, or simply a lover of beautiful spaces, Baratti & Milano is a must-visit destination. Let its charm, elegance, and passion captivate you – you'll leave with a taste of Torino's sweetest secret.

We had friends visiting in October and brought them to this historical caffe-restaurant for lunch. Beautiful dining hall, friendly service and a limited, but good-quality lunch menu. Definitely reserve in advance, and worth a visit just for sitting in another time and space for the duration of a meal.

We went here twice during our visit in turin and didn't make a reservation in neither, had no problem getting in and finding a table however it is recommended on weekends. The signature coffees are really unique and worth trying and the hot chocolate was really delicious as well. The atmosphere is beautiful and it has a very classic vibe. The prices are on the higher side. They also have a selection of chocolate pieces you can buy that are amazing.

We went there twice because of the quality of the coffe and chocolate. We found a table easily both times.Pergaps because we just wanted coffee. And we bought chocolates. They were pricey but tasty. A must visit for tourists, we saw a lot of people that seemed locals too.

We managed to get a table at Baratti & Milano without a reservation, which was a nice surprise. The service was friendly and the place itself looks beautiful, with a classic, elegant atmosphere. The prices are on the higher side, but I guess it’s expected for a historic spot like this. I went for the classic Bicerin and it was absolutely delicious. They also have a selection of sweets and chocolates you can buy as souvenirs.

THE best hot chocolate in my life and I am not even exaggerating. I am not a fan of heavy, rich chocolate..but this is so different. The style and ambience of the traditional cafe is epic and so beautiful. Staff were also friendly and helpful.
