"Near the racecourse in the Garrison part of the city stands a former military prison from Barbados’s time as headquarters of the British navy's Windward and Leeward forces. Since the 1930s, the two-story stone structure with gardens has been put to happier use, housing the Barbados Museum and Historical Society. Exhibits cover the island’s coral structure and natural history, as well as the original Amerindian presence, the slave trade, sugar cultivation and rum production."
An interesting place to visit for some history and background to Barbados. Lots of exhibits but the inside galleries are very hot and humid so you tend not to dwell too long on them. Fans definitely need to be installed. Some galleries were locked. Nice grounds.

Pros: Rihanna's Umbrella ☔ at start. 😆 Great history lesson and inspiring geo, plant, animal and human life that contributed to this island. Bravo on a great display of history and labelled well. I think this is a must see and didn't mind any heat as it was warm but not too hot.
Cons: Restrict photos in some rooms but you can take nature and photos of scenic area.

As others have said the museum is unbearably hot. Half of the ceiling fans were not working which meant we were dripping sweat. It’s a shame because we were enjoying learning so much but it was too hot!
A few of the exhibits do have AC which was nice.
The main parts of the museum is a bit dated so it’s time for a refresh but overall the content was good.

This was my third visit, and I thoroughly enjoyed the new exhibit updates—especially the children’s section and the Irish connection exhibit. Both were truly inspiring!

Great museum, offering lots of information about the geology and history of Barbados. Some of the rooms have aircon, which is wonderful on a hot day. The grounds look great. If you want to learn about Barbados and its history, this place is a must.
