They opened up for the season this weekend. It was packed. They have a great selection of veggies, and fruits. All the great pies, fritters, turn overs, cider, apple slushies, and apple doughnuts are there. Great treats. Stop in and get some super treats.

Ron Harless

Google
I have purchased apples for apple butter every year for the past 12-15. The price is right. The service is great. And the apples are excellent as well as their apple pies. I highly recommend recommend this business as they are excellent to work with.

Google
The absolute best apple cider donuts! The apple fritter and apple turnover were delicious too. Great prices and tons of other homemade goodies to choose from; the produce is always fresh!

Google
This was our third year in a row stopping by to get cider and donuts. We are blown away every time at how delicious and so flavorful the donuts are! We couldn’t help but get 2 dozen this time to bring back to share with friends and family. They also have such a great variety of apples to choose from as well as other delicious baked goods… and cider, of course! There’s nothing better than a cider donut and a cup of hot cider on a chilly fall mountain morning!

Samuel Petty

Google
Great place love the bakery! A must stop if in Waynesville

Diana X

Google
Delicious apple cider (not too sweet as it often happens with store bought cider), fresh and delicious apple turnovers and cider donuts, great selection of apples and berry/fruit jelly and butter. First time here and we loved it! The only thing we didn’t like is a really long checkout line. But I guess it’s because backed stuff is too good 😀

Lindsey Mitchell

Google
The best baked goods and apples. Their apple butter and jams are delicious as well. If you don't get anything else, please get an apple turnover. I've been going here since I was a kid and I look forward to going back every year. Their apple muffins are probably the most underrated in my opinion; they're delicious!

Google
Love the trees bursting with life!! Great farm stand with fresh fruit and vegetables! They also bake pies and apple turnovers!! They had me with the apple slushy machine ! Refreshing and sweet on a hot summer day!

Yelp
If you like apples, you have to stop here in the fall. My wife loves Rome apples and they are hard to find. She bought half a bushel here and raves about them. This is a popular place. In addition to apples, it has seasonal fruits and vegetables, jams/Jellys, and a killer bakery. If you're in the area, you'll want to stop here.

Jan M.

Yelp
What a lovely stop full of fresh fragrances, highlighted by the sweet sent of baked goods. We had a lovely chat with the farmer & his young son about NC weather and how they harvest different varieties of apples starting in August. Order your fritters ahead...the line was out the door (although it moves fast, those at the front said they'd only been waiting 5-10 minutes) Mix & Match a 1/2 or full peck of 6 or 8 different apples. We're also trying locally harvested AND CLEANED Black Walnuts for the first time
google avatar

Muffy F.

Yelp
They have some good stuff but ZERO customer service so if you're not happy with something just go complain to a brick wall.
google avatar

Stephan C.

Yelp
They certainly have a plethora of apple varieties. I brought a peck and each one was perfect! Apple cider and apple cider donuts are just amazingly delicious! But the PIÈCE DE RÉSISTANCE is their Mountain Fruit pie. Trying it...?I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. The best pie I've had. Honestly, when you're in the area, you've got to stop.

Yelp
Closed until August 1 2024. Can't Wait! We love the delightful baked goods and fresh vegetables.

Yelp
Love this place. The apple cider donuts and fritters and apple cider are amazing! So delicious!!

Yelp
Huge selection of fresh apples and fresh baked goodie's . Visited on a Thursday afternoon and it was very busy.

Yelp
We called Barber Orchards before going and the young lady that answered the phone said their apples are organic so we drove from GA to NC to get some apples from them. We bought a smaller bag and a big sized bag from them and when we got home, I went to wash some to eat and one of the apples had a sticker on it and it's not organic! Liars! Liars! Liars! We even bought baked goods from them because they said they use the same fresh apples... they should be closed down for lying to people about their produce being organic!
google avatar

Lindsey B.

Yelp
Delicious cider, cider slushee and friendly service. Lots to choose from. We bought a big bag of honey crispy apples to bring back home along with 2 gallons of cider for family and friends. They have their beautiful apple orchards across from the little shop and a few picnic tables out front. J don't like the apple doughnuts though - I highly recommend skipping those.

Yelp
Family run business. Very clean and definitely the place to be! Many varieties of apples to choose from as well as jams and jellies. The fresh baked treats smells brought me to the front of the place. Wow. So much to choose from! Bought apples, tomatoes, apple butter and apple fritters! Yum!

Susan O.

Yelp
Barbers Orchard did apple cider donuts for our daughter's wedding on the 26th of October as part of our dessert table. WOW delicious, but we knew that because we had tried them a year prior. We knew we had to get some for the wedding. Our guests raved about them and a few guests actually stopped by on their way out of town to get more along with other baked goods. Professional from the first phone call we made to pickup. This was on the heels of a devastating flood event in the area, but these guys didn't miss a beat! At some point in the evening, this mother of the bride looked and had to run over to the table or she wouldn't have gotten one, there were only 4 left. Melt in your mouth delicious, packaged up nicely, great job!

Yelp
Great apple EVERYTHING - apple turnovers, large pies, donuts, fritters, cookies, cake. Best around pies of all kinds. Bunch of great fresh produce.

Yelp
We were visiting Maggie valley for the Thanksgiving holiday. I found Barber's on Facebook a few weeks before and decided to visit them while we were there. Purchased apples, apple pie, apple turnovers and apple fritters. Wow were the baked goods phenomenal! Especially the pie. We hope to retire in the area in a few years and will definitely be back for our apple fix!

Yelp
A nice fruit stand right off the main road. This location is easy to get to from the main road (The Great Smoky Mountain Highway). You turn south onto Balsam road and the Fruit Stand is about 200 feet from the turnoff. There is plenty of parking across Balsam road and in front of the large roadside sign advertising the stand. There was a large long building with a warehouse at the east end and a small store at the west end and near the road. The warehouse section has containers where you can fill up your own bags of various types of apples. The closest part to the road is a store. When I arrived there was a line of about 30 people in the line leading into the store. When you reach the counter you can order all sorts of great food like apple fritters, pies, loaves, donuts, and more. There is a menu along the counter and back wall. The various items were pricey but good. The staff was efficient and friendly. There was a long line when we got there and a long line when we left. The food was delicious and well worth the price. I highly recommend this as a stop if you are in the area.

Yelp
I'm not a big donut person, but I go out of my way to come here for their apple cider donuts. We love their donuts, fritters, and apple cider. We grab several of the 1/2 gallons of cider and freeze it to enjoy later. Worth the trip!

Yelp
Excellent locally produced fruit - excellent bakery - would stop there again! Their Apple Cider donuts are fantastic!
google avatar

Susan S.

Yelp
Great place for baked goodies! Their fresh made pies are the best I've ever had. Also love the donuts, turnovers and fritters. Bakery usually has a long line, but staff is very efficient and it moves quickly. Staff is also friendly & helpful. You can also purchase fresh apples and other seasonal produce as well as jellies, jams, honey etc. A very busy place, but very neat and clean.

Yelp
We were really excited to visit Barber Orchard's. Since we live in Florida we do not have apple orchards in our area. Barber got great reviews and we couldn't wait to visit and buy some apples. The shop was neat and organized. The employees were very friendly and helpful. We ended up buying an apple donut, apple bread (cake), and a peck of red delicious apples. Well, the donut and the cake were fantastic! Unfortunately the apples themselves were not good. They tasted grainy and we had to throw away a half dozen because they were rotten inside. It's very disappointing that they would sell apples like those to customers. If it were only a few "bad apples" I wouldn't mind. However, they were ALL grainy and unpleasant to eat.

Robert D.

Yelp
Apples. That is what you will get here, along with a multitude of others items. You can get apples by the bushel or just one. The building is a warehouse that is 3 different sections. The left side has pallets of apples and you can get them in bags, 1/2 bushels or bushels. The middle section is filled with produce(whatever is in season) and various other sundries(jams, jellies, etc.). The right side is by far my favorite area. That is where they sell delicious baked goods. They have cookies, donuts, pies, cakes, turnovers, loaves, cider, among other things. Unfortunately for my waistline, I can personally attest that the donuts, apple loaves and turnovers are delicious. Just be aware that the line for baked goods can get long sometimes. If you happens to be traveling down 74/23/Great Smoky Mountain Hwy, do yourself a favor and take a few minutes and take a look around.

Yelp
Very good choice of apples. Honey Crisps throughout season!!! The bakery is awesome with apple donuts, fritters, pies, cakes and juices and jellies! Incredible. Lots of fruit and vegetable options too. The only disappointment was when I opened the HoneyCrisp bushel I bought, it was about a peck short of an actual bushel!!! Buy in the broken down bags instead of full bushel box. Would have been a 5 star if not for that. Staff were very friendly

Yelp
Best apple pie around . Krispy Kreme version of apple pie . This place never disappoints, but be ready to know what you want

Cindy F.

Yelp
Donuts , muffins where awesome. The turnovers where filled with dry minced apples-no flavor. The veggie selections where great.

Julie E.

Yelp
If you love homemade apple pie, you'll want to stop and purchase one (or 5!) We buy several and freeze them for special holidays.
google avatar

Kiera B.

Yelp
Everything is so fresh! The colors of the fruits and vegetables were amazing and everything tasted great! You got to walk around and pick out what your wanted, and they had a small area that was a bakery; selling apple cider, apple fritters and donut, cookies and more. What an experience! Definitely recommend coming here early so to beat the crowd, a lot of locals love this place and now I do too.
google avatar

Roger H.

Yelp
Locally produced apples of many varieties at the stand from their Orchard that is nearby. Great prices...$8 for a half bushel of McIntosh apples. They have a fantastic bakery too,,,with apple turnovers, bread, pies, fritters, and some fresh veggies. Sorry but... How bout them apples!!!!!!!! Going back to get Winesaps today!

P P.

Yelp
Nothing spectacular! Average food Apple muffins edible, but dry Apple turnover dry hard around edges Had zero donuts, was told will not have any till end of week. Where are they coming from?
google avatar

Yelp
I have been driving on the Smokey Mountain Parkway since my son played football against Western Carolina University. We love the town of Waynesville, North Carolina. I woke up and wanted some dark fresh apples and my husband suggested we drive to North Carolina. We enjoyed driving to the front door of this quaint old orchard which was established in 1932. There were winter squash, giant cabbages, corn, all kinds of canned goods, a bakery with delicious fried apple pies and all the apples you could imagine. We purchased a peck bag of wine saps and 1/2 peck bag of mutsu. I cannot wait to make homemade apple butter and applesauce and decide which apple is best. This is a classic old orchard!
google avatar

Yelp
This is THE place in Haywood county for apples and apple products. I bought my usual once a year Apple pie and 1/2 gallon of apple cider. These are a staple around here. This year we added some apple fritters to the bill. They do not disappoint! Already got into the fritters! They also sell apples by the 1/2 and full bushel. There are more types of apples that I never heard of that they grow and sell there. You will agree with me when you go there.
google avatar

Janice D.

Yelp
The bakery products are outstanding, the selection of apples is excellent but the people working the counter in the bakery are the cause of the long line customers flowing out the entrance and down the path. There are only 3 people waiting on customers which is an inadequate number for the amount of customers. They work very slowly and the checkout procedure itself is inefficient leading to an excessive amount of time spent on each customer. And why is no one enforcing the 6 feet apart on the line other than inside the bakery?!?!

Yvonne W.

Yelp
Have a variety of sweets to choose from in the bakery. Love the apple doughnut. Very good fruit stand
google avatar

Devin W.

Yelp
So this was such a fun stop while I was recently visiting! We came and were greeted by seeing the line of beautiful apple trees! What a sight with all the beautiful fall colors in the leaves! Stopped out of the car to take a picture of the apples on the trees as it was so cute. We went in and were greeted by friendly staff who offered us a sample of the apple cider. We all enjoyed our sample and made our way to the bakery where we got apple slushees, an apple donut, and an apple pie to go. All of these items were DELICIOUS! I ended up buying a small bag of gala apples that I plan on taking home to Arizona as they were so good! This is definitely worth a stop while visiting or if you live here.. you already know! Decent prices and overall looks like a great place to get your vegetables as well. Large selection of apples, jams, butter, and even had coffee! I needed to go and get this bag of southern pecan coffee which was so good when we tried it at the house. Would definitely recommend this place and will come back when I come again to see my parents.
google avatar

San L.

Yelp
It was great! Everyone was wearing a mask and was staying 6FT apart. Everything in the store is high quality and tastes amazing!! Would highly recommend to anyone going in that direction,I would also suggest their frozen peach cider and apple fitters.
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
I saw Anne W'S photos on here and since I drive by on the highway a lot I figured Id have to stop! Yes this is a nice place. There was a line of about 20 people when I got there, but I got in line and they do all they can to keep it moving and the wait wasnt bad at all. They have cookies, breads, pies, turnovers, fritters, donuts and more. There is a line for baked goods at the west end and a separate line for apples, and vegetables. If you pre order, your order will be ready to pick up at the apple/veg line as it is usually shorter. Thats very nice of them to do that for you! There was also a self serve sample of cider alongside the bakery checkout. I ordered some turnovers, fritters, and one apple cider donut. Of the three, the turnovers looked the best, but the fritter turned out to be the best. The price of the fritter was $1.05 and it was rather small size. Thats ok as some of them at other places are way too large and you feel like you gained 2 pounds eating them. SO this smaller size is fine and keeps the cost down. These fritters are good, but not the best Ive ever had. The turnover? Looks beautiful, but when you bite in its chopped apple in small pieces. I was wishing for something like the filling of an apple pie but no, not at all. If you were to look at the inside you wouldnt know it was apple right off. It also had something, ??cardamom?? who knows, but it had a perfumey taste and smell. I will post a side shot of the turnover. Looks more like mincemeat than what I would expect in an apple turnover. The cider donut wasnt very exciting. It was more like the hostess donuts that came 12 in a 3 x 3 x 12 inch box. So yes this is a nice place, and there were all sorts of NC apples. I didnt buy any apples but Im sure they are good, as I have bought plenty of NC apples. The help does a good job and its a fun stop, but I cant give it a 5 star as the baked goods I had just were not up to a 5 star level.

Sarah A.

Yelp
We visit this stand every time we are in Maggie Valley. The caramel apple cookies are to die for! Apple tunrovers, apple fritters and the apple cider! So worth the 20 mintue drive from the valley
google avatar

Yelp
Everyone I came in contact with was nice and informative. The lady at the register especially made this stop a good one. The apples are fresh and the Apple Doughnuts are incredible!!! Will make this a stop every chance I get coming through the mountains.

Sandy F.

Yelp
I was so disappointed this past Saturday. Barber Orchards has changed the recipe for the crust of their apple turnovers. They always had this great flakey crust and now it more like all the other apple turnovers everywhere else - doughy and with sugar and egg or something brushed over the top. They are, in my opinion, no longer good. There were several of us and six of the turnovers didn't get eaten. This hasn't ever happened before. Anyway, like I said, a big disappointment.

Yelp
My family has been going the Barber Orchard since the late 70s. They were selling apples off of a loading dock next to the "rock" house. We had friends who were from Waynesville. The quality - goodness - has only gotten better. I am very happy for the expansion of building, foods and selection of different kind of apples We like the wine saps, doughnuts and apple loaf but everything is good tasting. If all goes well my family will be there later this month.. -- Thanks for continuing this great tradition -- Mildred Gaebler 10/14/2017

Yelp
Grew up in Michigan so I'm an Apple girl and fresh cider. They have it all ! I'm now a pink lady fan thanks to a recommendation of one of the wonderful workers. The bakery, wow , the donuts eaten warm in the car with ice cold cider outstanding. We had two fritters omg warmed up for breakfast with coffee and yep more cider. We absolutely love and will be back.

Melissa B.

Yelp
We love Barber Orchards! We make sure to visit anytime we are in the area!!! The bakery is fabulous and the apple cider is out of this world!!! Thanks for remaining in business all these years!!
google avatar

Tony R.

Yelp
There is nothing fancy about this place, a basic we sell apples and bakery items but they have nice fresh apples, many varieties to choose. They have pre-filled bags or you can pick your own and mix and match out of the crates. I did notice the sizes of the apples on the pre-filled bags were much larger than the u pick. There is a bakery side that has fresh made pies, breads and everything apples but we were there at a bad time as the line was about an hour wait. (That's when you know its good)
google avatar

Christina L.

Yelp
Fabulous local spot! We were fortunate to attend on a Sunday afternoon in the fall when the apples were super-fresh. But you can get mountain apples nearly everywhere in October. What is really special at Barber's is the cider and baked goods. One look at the long line tells you that the bakery is popular, and we discovered why. From blueberry pie to apple bread - everything was very well done and delicious! This will be a regular pilgrimage on each visit to Waynesville or anywhere nearby.
google avatar

Wayne R.

Yelp
I love this place and stop here every year, sometimes more than once. Apple cider is fresh, unpat, and sharp. Mountain Berry pie fantastic! Not open all year; it opens Aug 1 and runs thru New Year's. Me, I can't wait!
google avatar

John C.

Yelp
Great to visit in the fall during apple season. They have a wide selection of apple varieties and baked goods made with their apples. The apple cider is awesome. If you are staying anywhere near Wayneville or Sylva and it is the fall, you must visit and get some fresh picked apples. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g49648-d5570073-r314945850-Barber_Orchard_Fruitstand-Waynesville_North_Carolina.html#

Yelp
Best apple pie I have every eaten. Best blueberry pie I have ever eaten. If you miss this place it's your loss!!!

Steve G.

Yelp
Best Apple turnover I have ever had. Apple Cider was great too. Wish they were open year round. Always a line but worth the wait. Be sure to try the apple fritters too.
google avatar

Lonnie B.

Yelp
The best place on Haywood County to buy apples. Great selection and decent prices. The bakery is way over-rated. The line was long. They recommended doughnuts, fritters, and turnovers. All three are much better at the grocery store and much cheaper. More hype than it delivers.
google avatar

Elbert B.

Yelp
First visit here but will not be the last.Staff were helpful and answered all questions about apples and provided fresh samples. We bought 2 pecks to sshare with friends. We alsobought apple fritters, muffins and turnovers. These were delicious. Will definitely visit again

Yelp
The produce is yummy. The staff was friendly. And the Apple cider donuts were amazing!

Yelp
Had a chance to drop in on our way home from a nice little mini-vacation in the mountains of NC. This fruitstand was a little underwhelming when I first walked in. TONS of apples sorted by type but that's all it appeared to be. Then I noticed the little bakery area off to the side within the same area. This is where the magic happens :) I tried an apple fritter, apple cider donut and an apple turnover. All of which was amazing and NO not all three at the same time! Very fresh and a selection of jams, jelly ands even barbecue sauces that are spread across three walls for you to choose from.
