Google
The most popular restaurant in Fisherman’s Wharf, a colourful touristic area on the docks near downtown Victoria. It’s certainly an amazing site to see, and nothing at all like Toronto or Montreal. The atmosphere was quite lively with many visitors and live music at the Mexican restaurant. The scenery was beautiful with sunny skies, glittery waters, and colourful buildings. I thought this place was alright, but the chips here could have been better, and the fish could have had more flavour.

Amazing food and a beautiful waterfront view! Barbs Fish & Chips never disappoints. Just relax, enjoy your meal, and as long as you don’t feed the birds, you’ll have a perfect time. Highly recommend!

Google
I had the fried cod & chips and the salmon & chips. The salmon was incredibly tender and full of flavour, and the cod was just as amazing. The fries were perfectly crispy and not greasy at all. Service was quick and efficient. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to enjoy a quality fish and chips experience.

Google
A very good address for a good fish n' chip. The product is of good quality and not too fatty. Prices are reasonable, though expensive. However, the wait can be long (due to success) and seating is very limited. Best served outside mealtimes, for greater serenity.

Cute little spot on Fisherman’s Wharf right by the entrance. You sit on plastic picnic benches under a canopy to eat. We almost didn’t eat there because we wanted a view and chairs but changed our mind. It was very clean. We had the special and a side order of shrimp. The batter was light and crispy, and the fish was nice and moist. The coleslaw was tasty. Fries were pretty standard. The fried shrimp were pretty small but a decent portion and crunchy batter. It hit the spot for lunch.

Google
Barbs Fish and Chips is one of the busiest kiosk in Fisherman’s Whatf in Victoria. They sell fish and chips (cod or halibut), they also have burgers, soups and drinks. I ordered the 1 piece cod fish and chips. It was ok, but not good as I expected. I had better fish and chips elsewhere. My main issue with the food is that the batter separated from the fish as soon as I bite on it. The fish is falling apart too and very greasy compared to other fish and chips I’ve tried. I am aware it is deep fried, but other fish and chips I’ve tried hold their breading and it is not as greasy as this. It was a good try, but I will try other place next time I want to have fish and chips.

Google
Barb's Fish & Chips serves fresh and well-cooked fish and shrimp, making for a satisfying seafood experience. The food is flavorful and enjoyable, and overall, it meets expectations. However, the location at the Wharf presents challenges, except summer. The wind can be strong, affecting the dining experience even though the area is covered with a tent and shed. Unfortunately, these measures don’t fully block the wind, making it uncomfortable to eat at times. In colder months, the wind blows everything around, which can be frustrating. It seems like management is aware of the issue, but there hasn’t been much effort to enhance the dining setup for better weather protection. Investing in a more stable, enclosed dining space would make a huge difference. Despite this, the quality of the food and friendly service make Barb’s worth a visit—just be prepared for a breezy meal!

Google
We loved Barb's Fish & Chips. The food was great and the unique setting was fun. We order 2 piece fish and chips. I believe the fish was cod. Just under $24 for an order. This is respectable considering the location. The fish was juicy, tender, tasteful, with a nice crunch coating. It was very good. Fries were delish - large fries, soft on the inside, just enough salt. The coleslaw was very nice too - it tasted fresh and wasn't too mayonnaisey. Staff was friendly and the service was quick enough - we were early for dinner (approx 4:30pm), not much of a line-up to order, and the food was ready in about 10 minutes. If you have a hankering for fish 'n chips and are downtown Vic, I'd recommend Barbs!

Yelp
This place is good. Not the best in the city as advertised. But good. My wife and I stopped by here Friday night after a long day of e-biking this beautiful city. Which is perfect for biking by the way. It is located on the wharf. They do not serve beer so I grabbed an IPA from the fish store next door. The service was ok. It is noisy with a band playing down on the wharf and not really helpful staff. We had the two piece fish and chips, shrimp basket, and seafood chowder. The fish was good, fries were great, and shrimp was basically something you can grab at Walmart. The seafood chowder is really good. The coleslaw had no flavor. Let me know if you agree or disagree.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place ever since a local recommended it a year ago. I love the location and atmosphere and would love to come back when I'm not on a cruise ship timeline. We showed up right before closing and were probably the last order of the night. We ordered one serving of the halibut fish and chips, and it was HUGE! The halibut was incredibly fresh, but I wish the batter and fries had been crispier. This place definitely satisfied my craving, but my gut says there's even better out there.

Yelp
We made the trip to fisherman's wharf, in search of some delicious meals; the food hit the spot as the fish was crispy and the chowder was fantastic. The service was speedy, based on the amount of folks ordering, and friendly to boot. Nothing beats enjoying your meal on the beautiful docks.

Maribel R.

Yelp
Had the Fish& chips w a side order of fried shrimp. Everything tasted hot and fresh. The fish was a good size, we ordered the 2 piece piece for 2 of us to share Pigeons will surround you.

Yelp
Sea side style shack with a few tables. fish and chips were fresh so the wait was longer than I expected. Pretty busy with not much room to sit, got in and out as quickly as possible so others could have my seat. Lots of other such shacks around the area, was good but did not stand out.
google avatar

Rod M.

Yelp
This was easily the best fish and chips I've ever had. I also had a slice of carrot cake and it was very good as well, but the fish was amazing. It is a walk up but the service was excellent both at the ordering counter and at the pickup window, very polite, welcoming and proficient. The ambience was perfect for this meal, open air and on the waterfront. This was my first visit to Victoria but I hope to return and I will definitely visit Barb's when I do.

Yelp
Usually try to get fish and chips from here whenever we visit Victoria going back to when we first came here several years ago Flavorful and great fries. Ordered online to save from waiting in line and was pretty painless. Took our order back to where we were staying at which was close by and ate outside enjoying the evening overlooking the harbor. Looking forward to our next visit

Yelp
The food was amazing the view was great. There was a variety of nationalities dining together. The food was cooked to perfection and priced accordingly. The staff was friendly and accommodating , and was fluent with multiple languages. the food was fresh and served hot.
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
Food was pretty good, but the WAIT, oh the WAIT! About 20 minutes in line to place order (that's fine, was around lunchtime); but then another 40 minutes waiting for food to come out. 40 minutes! AFTER placing order. Really need to step it up here folks! Would not come here again...

Yelp
Reportedly over-rated by our local friends, but we found that it was still a decent experience. You really cant beat the location, right on Fisherman's wharf, it is beautiful at almost any time of day; although it can get a little populated/busy during peak hours. My wife and I already had Fish and Chips at 'The Fish Store' as recommended by our friends, but we still wanted to try Barb's while we were here. We decided to try their calamari which was decent. I'm glad they used real squid instead of frozen, so the rings were not chewy or plastic-y. The batter was well seasoned and tasted great.
google avatar

Molly B.

Yelp
Quick service, pretty good fish and chips that are decently sized. It would be great if there was more seating though.
google avatar

Yelp
Got the 1 piece fish and chips. Big piece of fish, well done. It was very crispy, not at all greasy. Nice light batter. Fish tasted fresh. Fries were also good and crispy. Cole slaw was also good. Nice experience, I can see why they've been around a long time.

Yelp
We are from Seattle, so we know good fish and chips. One order was very pale and soggy, sort of oily. The fries are pretty good. We had a 2nd order of fish and chips that we got a few minutes (miscommunication when ordering, and I didn't notice...carefuly if you order 2 - 2 piece fish). The clams were very good. The slaw was so-so and the tarter sweeter than we're used to. The chowder my wife was excited about because it was a seafood chowder, not just clam chowder. But it was just OK. All needed seasoning. The location on the warf is nice, with a great view on a sunny day, and it was fun to explore the warm after dinner.

David B.

Yelp
my 2 star rating is for the food only...I didn't place the order or deal with the staff and the scenery is always fun & interesting and we're always prepared for a long wait, especially when a cruise ship is in port. I come by with my mom once a summer with and have always really enjoyed the fish & chips...this time, we were both quite disappointed. The chips were only warm and worst, the fish was dry somehow, despite cod being an oily fish. I actually don't think it was cod but not certain. We both commented maybe we'll try a different eatery our next time we stop by Fisherman's wharf.

Donald S.

Yelp
Not as good as red fish blue fish. Batter was mushy and chowder was pedestrian. Location was not worth the walk to the other side of the bay.
google avatar

Andrea J.

Yelp
Legit fish & chips! We visited in a nice, sunny day and dined near the water. The service was average, not too fast or slow. There were quite a few patrons in the area and the of all the eateries, this one was probably the busiest. The portions were a good size and the price was reasonable. I had a 2 pc cod, fries, and slaw for around $15 USD. I'd definitely visit again.
google avatar

Christina L.

Yelp
Good cod and chips. The batter is not my fav out of all the different fish and chips places I've tried in Victoria, but the quality of the fish is good! The chowder was thick and tasty but a bit too salty for me. The buttery bread that came with the chowder was amazing - the highlight of the meal. Tartar sauce is a bit too vinegary for me but that's personal taste. I prefer the tartar sauce at the fish store and red fish blue fish.

Yelp
Fish and chips were yummy. Grateful for the tent covering to eat under because it was pouring outside.

Yelp
Every new city that I visit, I usually have a place in my mind that is a must try. In Victoria, I had this place bookmarked as a must try and rightly so. This is a small shack on Fisherman's wharf. They do have some seating on the wharf or you can pick up your food and sit anywhere in the wharf area or the park nearby. I came here after a long day of travel, so decided to order online and pick up food just in case this place was crowded. I ordered clam chowder that came with yummy garlic bread and a salmon burger with fries. The burger was really good, so was the chowder. This was one of the best meals I had during my short stay here. Prices were reasonable and food was top notch. Would definitely come back here again when I am in Victoria next.

Yelp
I've had this spot on my list of places to visit when I finally make it to Victoria. Well I finally made it and it was great! Us overeating Americans see 1 piece fish & chips and think that is such a small amount of food. Trust me, it's very filling! However, if you're bringing a very hefty appetite then go for the 2 pc. I loved the beer battered taste of the fish. The breading gave that authentic taste you expect when you're eating fish and chips. The fish was very hot and stayed hot the entire time I was eating it. The inside was nice and flaky while the outside was crunchy but not hard. The tarter sauce had great flavor and paired perfectly for dipping. The fries were also very hot and served as a necessary side for the meal. They also were great to dip in the tarter sauce. I also like that Barbs is open a little later than some of the other restaurants at the wharf so you have until 830 to get your food versus 8pm.
google avatar

Inigo M.

Yelp
Excellent battered/fried pacific cod, not greasy at all and the breading was just right. Seafood chowder also good. Pleasant staff.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to order fish and chips at Fisherman's Wharf in Victoria. Located midway between the harbor and the cruise terminal, it was an easy walk on a sunny summer day. Plenty of covered seating on the floating dock. The two piece fish and chips dinner was so delicious. At 15.95 Canadian it was just a little over $12 USD with the conversion. The fish was piping hot and fresh and the serving size was quite large. Loved their large cut chips and cole slaw. Perfect with the malt wine vinegar and tartar sauce. It is easy to see why they have been ranked #1 in Victoria for the past 35 year.
google avatar

Amy Y.

Yelp
Tourist spot because it's near the pier. My mom's friend wanted to take us here to try their fish and chip. Fish and chip was fried fresh and hot. Big piece of fish. It was good. Fries were good. Thick fries is what I love! There is a gorgeous ocean/pier view while eating here. Busy with tourist here and there. Definitely a must try when you're in the area.

Yelp
Food shack on Fisherman's Wharf, a cool area on the dock of Victoria's harbor with food shack's and house boats, that is known for their seafood (especially their fish and chips). Order at the front counter and wait until your buzzer goes off for you to pick up your food from a side window. Have a couple of outdoor picnic tables to eat at. Some picnic tables are in the shade under umbrellas, and some are in the sun. My dad and I ordered a 2 pics fish & chip (1 & 2 piece options), a clam strips, and a clam chowder. The fish and chips was fantastic, and the clam chowder was very tasty as well, but the clam strips were only okay. I am spoiled growing up on the east coast however. 8/10
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
HUGE pieces of fish, very good value and still good quality fish. We were expecting the typical touristy place kind of quality but were pleasantly surprised. FYI batter is dairy-free for those with allergies. All utensils and containers are compostable here. Once you are done, walk down the little pier and peer down the power posts to see schools of fish just feeding off of the algae.
google avatar

Bill R.

Yelp
Nice fresh halibut in a thin crispy coating. I would disagree though with their claim of islands best seafood chowder. Mostly potatoes and very little seafood.
google avatar

Rusty N.

Yelp
We had the best fish and chips ever here today. The cod was perfect. Large portions. Prices have gone up. This is our second time there and enjoyed it the first time also. It's very good. Fishermans wharf was very busy.
google avatar

Lulu C.

Yelp
Best Fish and Chips I've ever had! A bit pricey but you get a TON of sauce and coleslaw. Plus the order comes with a HUGE amount of fries (as seen in the photos). The fish was super tender and the batter was airy but not greasy. Even though it's in a touristy area, this place feels authentic and worth your money. Excellent service too. Yum!
google avatar

Marianne C.

Yelp
We went here in the middle of the afternoon and it wasnt as crowded as it may have been. Ordering was quick and they gave us a buzzer machine to let us know when our order is ready, to avoid crowding near the pick up area. We think the quality of the fish was good. Not too much batter. The chips were crispy and not too oily. Would definitely get our fish and chips here again next time!
google avatar

Angela G.

Yelp
Really great! Super accommodating! Fries have no salt, which works for us, and is worth noting! Thanks sm!
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Great big pieces of fish. Also very tasty. Service was good, on the slow side but very busy. Caught them late in the day so they were out of chowder. Grabbed our food to go.
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
4.5 stars. Excellent fried fish with cod. Very light batter that's almost tempura like. The fish could have a bit more salt to it.
google avatar

Sarah T.

Yelp
Haven't been to Barbs in over 17 years since I was a teen but came here for a revisit with my family. Sampled both the halibut and chips and salmon and chips. The halibut was perfect and the salmon was a thick piece of salmon. Both fish dishes were perfectly flaky and moist, with just the right amount of batter and minimal grease. My 5 year old loved the hot dog and chips kids meal and my husband enjoyed his Barbs burger which normally burgers at fish and chip joints are sub par but he said this one was good. Nice and clean tables with ample amounts of cutlery, napkins, salt, pepper and vinegars. I do wish they had a chowder or two on the menu, that would be a fantastic addition Overall a must visit!
google avatar

Bryan R.

Yelp
Had a beauty show of a Fish and Chips Dish May long! The fish, was excellent - love the lemon they put on the side for you... I think that's called courtesy or possibly mind-reading The chips, great! Loved me their slaw and the tartar sauce was the right find of horseradish-y, stoked to be back there and they are all so hard working! Are you ever going to sell Beer?
google avatar

Marc B.

Yelp
Waited for 35 mins for the place to open once opened ordered the salmon dinner and was told they don't have salmon ITS A FISH PLACE!
google avatar

Valerie B.

Yelp
I was enjoying a nice stroll around Fisherman's wharf and felt like a light snack before dinner. I spotted Barb's Place and recalled reading good reviews. I decided to try their fisherman's chowder and it was delicious. It is the cream based chowder and was nicely thickened. You can either eat at tables outside or do takeout as Barb's is a takeout hut on the water. The chowder came with a nicely toasted slice of garlic bread was also very good. It was the perfect snack. The fish and chips looked very good. I may have to try them some time.
google avatar

Kelsey P.

Yelp
I'll be completely honest - I don't like fish and chips. I didn't even eat any when I was in London. That being said, I ate here twice on our recent trip to Victoria. My husband got the fish the first time (I had the shrimp), and even though my food was delicious, I was jealous of his fish, so we had to go back. The fish was amazing - tasty batter and fried to a nice crisp without a super fishy taste. Their house made tartar sauce was also pretty good - my husband even ate it, and he hates tartar sauce! The fries were nice and crispy, too. The shrimp was well cooked, nicely breaded, and was a very generous helping. We'll be back the next time we're in town.
google avatar

Ann K.

Yelp
The Halibut was delicious, and though I normally prefer baked fish to fried, the Halibut was still quite good in a fish and chips style. The fries weren't too good, being much too thick for my taste. However the star of this meal was definitely the fish, so I didn't find the lackluster fries to be too much of a disappointment. The side slaw was alright, considering that I don't enjoy that much mayonnaise in my food. I probably would have enjoyed a vinaigrette more, but what kind of fish and chips place serves that kind of slaw right? The tartar sauce was good with the fish, nothing extraordinary about it, but I do love my condiments so I was pleased by its presence. I ordered the two piece dinner and split it with my mom- we both had one of the fish pieces each, and found it quite filling. I also had a few croissants prior to coming here, so I was stuffed afterwards, but I assume that a person who only ate here for dinner might need the two pieces for themselves. My brother got a burger, which I consider a shame since it came with beef and this place is obviously a fish shack. Ah well he's thirteen, he's allowed to make bad food decisions.
google avatar

Warp K.

Yelp
Tasty. The fish is lightly battered and perfectly crispy. Fries are good but nothing special but overall a bit pricey for what you get. Would eat there again though.

Linda K. M.

Yelp
Will definitely go back for the Cod & Chips Dinner and the Oyster Sandwich. Both were so fresh and tasty. The best fish & chips place in Victoria! Yummy..

Yelp
We stopped here after walking around the wharf. This place had the biggest line on the wharf so we figured it must be good. What we swallowed: HALIBUT AND CHIPS: The batter was crispy and addicting. The halibut was moist and flaky and insanely delicious. The Canadian accidentally ordered me two fish so by the time I was made it to the second piece of fish, I had to peel off the batter. It was just too much by then. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/5BxJrMyXFYQ5beT_wjN7nw?userid=2B9F15-xrqh4qgGADMo-yw#qq906S1NVgbm_O87CHlN9w CALAMARI: These were just OK. The Canadian doesn't really like seafood (but he likes some calamari) and he didn't like these at all. The batter was a bit blah (almost just like a light dusting) and it was flavorless. The calamari was a bit chewy so that was disappointing. I don't get what the chopped green peppers or onions were for? Too small to pick up as a finger food and they definitely didn't add any flavor to the calamari itself (in fact, they made them soggy faster). http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/5BxJrMyXFYQ5beT_wjN7nw?userid=2B9F15-xrqh4qgGADMo-yw#y1zGdpeZMtZkN8PbbZYdmw CLAM CHOWDER: How can clam chowder be runny? And where were the clams? Another disappointment. There were nice bits of fish in the chowder, actually, now that I think about it, "Creamy Fish Potato Soup" would have been a better description of this soup. It was OK, but I wouldn't call it 'clam chowder'. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/5BxJrMyXFYQ5beT_wjN7nw?userid=2B9F15-xrqh4qgGADMo-yw#63wgU4WI6knnw597OSK48w GRILLED OYSTERS (two): I wanted raw oysters or even breaded oysters and they gave me these. Hmmm. They were alright but not what I ordered. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/5BxJrMyXFYQ5beT_wjN7nw?userid=2B9F15-xrqh4qgGADMo-yw#qwvGsoKZYTnTyf0GUxD7bA To top it off, we asked for Tabasco sauce (What's clam chowder without Tabasco sauce?!?!) and they said they ran out that morning. HUH?!?!? That's like a STEAK JOINT WITH NO STEAK SAUCE! SEND SOMEONE TO GO GET SOME! WHACK! Good thing the seafood joint (that sells the sardines to feed the sea lions with) was nice enough to give us some of theirs. Our above meal with two drinks came up to $80. Ouch. A bit pricey for mediocre seafood.
google avatar

Hany E.

Yelp
This place was pretty good! The line however, was extremely long and they could probably have better prices. The fish was extremely hot so you know it's cooked to order. Seemed like a great summer hang out. Again, only bad thing I have to see is that I think they're are a bit over priced considering it's fried fish overall.
google avatar

Vince N.

Yelp
When a place has the longest line, that has to be a sign! Right? Well, usually... ATMOSPHERE: They're located on the floating pier in Victoria's charming & picturesque Fisherman's Wharf. There's lots of outdoor only seating, both covered and not, with great views of the floating houses, harbor & skyline. FOOD: Fish & Chips - It was probably cod fish, a good sized filet cooked nicely with a tasty batter. Came with natural cut shoestring fries and tarter sauce. I got it for takeout because we wanted to eat on the run and assumed it would come in a paper tray or some sort of container, but it came wrapped in 3-layers of butcher paper which was very difficult to handle. The eat-in food came in those disposable trays. Hello!? SERVICE: The female order taker was super friendly and helpful. It took about 15 minutes to get our food. OVERALL: Friendly service, good food, and great views. Eat there for a better experience.
google avatar

Simone T.

Yelp
Cute little spot on the wharf with plenty of bench sitting on the pick up window side. They are a little pricey but the fish is so fresh and the pieces are huge. I ordered a two piece and was full after one so I could have went with just the one piece. The fries were just ok nothing fantastic here. They have an extensive condiment station with a variety of vinegars and ketchup, and also the cole slaw was nothing to write home about.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
When we went to pick up our online order, the staff seemed very confused and asked us to wait longer. I had tipped a decent amount and by the time we got home, we realized they had forgotten our drinks. Very young staff that didn't seem overly enthused. Food was pretty tasty but a little Over priced for the overall experience ‍‍

Yelp
Recently had halibut and chips as well as the clam strips. The best fish and chips I've ever had by far !! Looking forward to going back again !!
google avatar

Kristi L.

Yelp
Barbs was able to make me a quick fish burger in the few short minutes I had before going on a whale watching tour! The cashier was really helpful and knowledgeable for how much time each item would take on the grill, and helped me choose. On top of that, it was ready even quicker than she quoted! I like that they give you a buzzer that you can carry around the wharf that will go off when your meal is ready. The burger itself was absolutely delicious. A huge piece of fish, the batter wasn't too heavy or greasy, and the bun was really nice. I ate it at a table beside the restaurant, which was a nice clean area.
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
Yum! It had been 20 years since we last visited and they have recently expanded/rebuilt. But, the fish and chips were still fabulous and HUGE portions, my husband and I could have easily shared and we don't usually share ;).
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Our tour guide suggested we go to Barb's for some really good fish and chips. He was right! There was a long line which tells you the food must be good. We ordered a couple of two piece Halibut and chips. The portion size was huge and delicious. We thought 54.00 was a bit much for fish and chips and plastic forks. The fish is definitely delicious with nice crispy exterior and big thick fries with a small side of Cole slaw. It's a real fun atmosphere and located on the wharf with seals squealing in the background. Lots of fun and delicious fish. I am definitely going back
