Barbuda Cottages

If you are a world traveler, this is a must for your bucket list. If you just love the Caribbean, turquoise water, white sand beaches where there’s never a crowd,.this is also a must. I chose Barbuda Cottages for my birthday to get away unwind and be surrounded by nature. I could not have picked a better place in the world to come with my best friend and be off the grid and truly relax. I give the family run business 10 stars because they are so accommodating, knowledgeable and friendly !! They were very helpful from the moment I got off the plane in Barbuda to my Adventures including Princess Dianna Beach and the pink Sand Beach beach excursions I love the restaurant Uncle Roddies. The view is amazing. Looks like something out of a movie and they have a great bar in the evening with live jazz music some nights. The only thing I could have asked for was a couple more days but I will be back! Treat yourself. Life is short. If you deserve a reset this is a place for you.

We had such a lovely stay at Barbuda Cottages and would not hesitate to return. ||We loved our cottage-clean, spacious and comfortable. It had a gorgeous view of the beach and we enjoyed breakfast on the screened in patio. Kelcina was kind enough to arrange for groceries to be waiting for us in the cottage. It would probably be best to do this as the grocery store did not have much selection. ||Even though the cottage did not have AC we found sleeping comfortable. It did however get a bit dusty inside due to having the windows open-that being said we were on the island during a windy period so results may vary! The bed was super comfy- we slept so well all week. Clean, comfortable, modern with an island feel.||A car is a must and driving is easy. Just make sure you dodge the potholes and watch out for crossing donkeys and horses :) You will need a car to get to Princess Diana beach (Nobu, Shack-a-Kai) and to the fisheries docks for your boat trip to the pink sand beach/bird sanctuary or lunch at Barbuda Belle. ||The beach onsite (coral group beach) is lovely. We often had it to ourselves and appreciated the new comfy beach loungers. The sand is powder like, the water is shades of turquoise and blue. We had the fortune of being there when a turtle nest hatched-what an experience!||Uncle Roddy's onsite is a treat! Staff are so friendly and the food is on point! I was quite happy with my options as a vegetarian. The prices are very reasonable as well.|It seemed like the place to be on the island-from locals to yachties. ||The only (minor to us!) downsides to our vacation were:||The sandflies - despite using 'off' regularly we both got quite bitten. The most on any vacation and we have been to many islands as well as throughout Costa Rica. I usually brush comments about bugs off in reviews as I have never had issues-but the sandflies of Barbuda liked us! There was a big rain storm one night and the bugs seemed worse after that so again-results may very but be prepared. ||Our only other word of caution would be that flights may not always be reliable-if there is an issue you could be out of luck or have to brave the (rough?) ferry. Our flight was almost cancelled but the wonderful Kelcina was able to work her magic and despite some airport drama (15 people wanted on a 6 person flight and some people's reservations were not honoured) we made it back to Antigua to catch our flight home. We were lucky as the word was the flights were going to be cancelled for 3 days after that....but what's a vacation without a little excitement haha. Just be ready to have a back up plan or perhaps stay a night or two on Antigua on your way home. At least you'd have a little wiggle room then!||We took these issues in stride and at the end of the day it was part of the full Barbuda Experience ;) We would certainly return. We have been fortunate to see some beautiful beaches but Barbuda's are close to the top/if not at the top. This is definitely the place to stay in Barbuda. Kelcina, Oliver and their staff are kind, gracious and very accommodating hosts. The cottages are right on the beach, comfortable, and very clean. There is a restaurant on site- super convenient and the food is good. If you need help setting up a trip to the Frigate Bird Sanctuary or the caves, they will accommodate you. Need a car? They have those for rent, too. We had a great stay and would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful little gem of a place!

We stayed at Barbuda Cottages for three nights. Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay: the cottages were nicely furnished, very spacious and clean, with a super nice porch that had an incredible view over the sea. There is a fully stocked kitchen, but no A/C (which we knew about before booking and was not a problem at night) - WiFi was surprisingly good, given the remoteness of the island. The location is perfect, there is nice beach right by the property and it is just a few minutes’ drive from Princess Diana beach (which is gorgeous). There is also Uncle Roddy’s restaurant on-site (open only for lunch and dinner, not breakfast) which offered great service and food. The owners, Kelcina and Oliver, are also very nice and helpful. Overall, we would definitely recommend visiting Barbuda (we travel a lot and I cannot think of another place with so beautiful beaches and so few people) and staying at Barbuda Cottages, it is a perfect location to unplug and relax. That said, I believe there are some areas of improvement, mostly around communication. We booked a car via the property (there are very few cars for rental in Barbuda, seems the norm to book via your accommodation) and the day before arriving we wrote the property to confirm if the car would be at the airport at our arrival - we got no reply. Eventually, one of the owners was at the airport to greet us (which was great), but it would have been nice to know that someone would have been there to pick us up, we were not really sure what to expect given the no reply (and would have also been good to know that the pick-up charge was 80 ECs, which was only clear to us when we settled the final bill). Additionally, it would have been helpful if they had mentioned that the rental car did not take credit card (and there is only one ATM on the island and that works only half of the time). There was also some unclear communication around arrangements done with a water taxi to visit some of the locations on the island (piece of advice here: ask about this as soon as you arrive so hopefully this can be arranged ahead of time, there seems to be very few water taxis and they seem not to be too flexible about where they take visitors). Finally, and this is just a suggestion, it would have been great to have a short document or a map with a summary of which locations should be visited on the island, how one can get there (i.e., car or boat or walk) and what can and cannot be visited (we found that many roads are closed due to construction or we found that some roads may be open, but have really bad terrain). In most other places we visited, Google Maps and other trip reports are perfect to provide this info, but in Barbuda, Google Maps is more wrong than right and trip reports are very few (and info is often out of date), so it would be super helpful if the accommodation could make this info available in the room.

Barbuda Cottages was an incredible escape for our family ~ we could feel the stress melting away the moment we arrived. We stayed in the two bedroom/two bath Green Cottage which is well equipped with everything we needed. The cottage was a few steps from the beach and listening to the waves while drifting off to sleep was a highlight for me. ||Kelcina, Oliver and the entire team are truly amazing at making all guests feel welcomed and spoiled. Spectacular customer care! Kelcina assisted us in making reservations, reserving transportation, and also connecting us with a taxi on Antigua on our way home. We appreciated that the property is eco-friendly using solar power, etc. ||The onsite restaurant, Uncle Roddy’s has a delicious selection of food and drinks. We ate lunch and dinner there on several days. The menu was extensive enough that we were able to try several different dishes ~ all very yummy. Two of us are vegetarians and we had enough choices as well.||Thank you to Kelcina, Oliver and family for taking great care in making our stay so special. We feel blessed to have had the opportunity to stay there and are already plotting our return visit. For now, our amazing memories & photos will need to suffice until we go back!

The most wonderful and accommodating establishment in absolute paradise. Pictures do not deceive like at some other places. So beautiful and peaceful. The restaurant is also absolutely perfect. I was not expecting such amazing food, cooked by the coolest chef! Everyone on the island is also just so chill. I never once felt like a tourist. Absolutely marvelous, and I can’t wait to return and bring friends!!

Barbuda Cottages are amazing. Kelcina and Oliver are wonderful hosts. The beaches are beautiful and the perfect place to relax. Uncle Roddys restaurant is so yummy and we loved our meals there. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend

My family and I just returned from a glorious 4 night stay at Barbuda Cottages. Kelcina and Oliver are amazing hosts - they are so thoughtful and kind and go out of their way to ensure that you have a great time on the island. Their warmth and hospitality are unrivaled. You feel as though you are being welcomed into a close family member’s home during your stay.||I was eager to stay at Barbuda Cottages, having visited the island in September 2022 when the hotel was closed, but its fantastic restaurant Uncle Roddy’s was open. After enjoying several delightful meals at Uncle Roddy’s, I had to return for the full Barbuda Cottages experience. And I’m certainly glad that I did!||We stayed in the 2BR/2bath green cottage (Aloe) toward the southern end of the property. It was perfect for our family of 4. We enjoyed eating meals on the spacious enclosed porch and gazing out toward the beach. The kitchen came equipped with a refrigerator, stove, and other appliances. Our fridge was conveniently stocked with items that we requested in advance. We enjoyed the cool ocean breezes at night that came through the bedroom windows.||Barbuda Cottages is situated on Coral Group Bay beach, in close proximity to Princess Diana Beach, Shack-A-Kai, and Nobu. ||The owners can arrange car rentals and a wide range of activities on the island, so be sure to ask them.||I can’t wait to return to Barbuda Cottages for my next visit to the island!
