RE: management’s response regarding different room configurations. Thank you for clarifying, I’m aware of different types of rooms, which is why we chose ‘superior king’ to make sure we have adequate space. However the room we got was neither superior, nor king. If fact, a room like that should not be a part of a 4 star hotel at all. I can’t even imagine what your ‘standard’ room looks like. This is definitely not a 4 star hotel. The lobby and location are nice, but that's about it. Customer service and rooms are atrocious. Front desk staff was very indifferent to guests' experience and showed zero inclination to help. I've gotten more hospitality from a toaster at airbnb than from them. Also, while checking in, I witnessed a gentleman, who only spoke french, trying to get help with parking at the hotel. The receptionist's reponse was (in english) "I understand what you are saying, but I cannot help you as the garage is operated by another company". No intent to even try to help to resolve an issue with parking that YOUR hotel provides. We booked a superior room with king bed and got ... a shoe box with barely a full bed. The room was so small, I had to shuffle sideways to get around. We were lucky that we only had small carryon suitcases as there was absolutely no room for anything bigger. There were no drawers to put your things away at all, so we had to have suitcases on the floor during the entire stay. At one point I needed to use the ironing board and I had to sit on the bed to iron as there was no room to stand. There were no hooks in the bathroom to hang your towels, so the only option was the floor. The shower door didn't close properly, so there was water everywhere. On top of that, during the shower, water temperature changed from cold to hot randomly, which made it for a very unpleasant shower. I've heard other guests complain about this issue as well. Mini fridge in the room did a great job at keeping your water at room temperature. Really glad we only booked 2 nights and I was so happy to leave.

THE WORST CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE I’VE EVER ENCOUNTERED ****BE WARNED**** I rarely leave reviews, but my experience with this hotel was so frustrating and unprofessional that I feel obligated to share it. From the beginning, the management team was completely unreachable and the supervisor was never available at any point, no matter how many times I called or emailed. It was almost impossible to get anyone who actually had the authority to resolve issues. What makes this situation even more disappointing is that I never even stayed at the hotel. Due to an unexpected emergency, I attempted to cancel my reservation months in advance of my check-in date. Despite the early notice and the circumstances I explained, the hotel still refused to provide a refund. There was absolutely no flexibility, no empathy, and no effort to work with me even though they had more than enough time to rebook the room to someone else. This level of service is unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one marketed as a 4 star property. A true 4-star hotel prioritizes guest satisfaction, communicates clearly, and handles situations with professionalism. This hotel did none of that. If you’re considering staying here, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. The lack of communication, poor customer service, and refusal to resolve simple issues are clear signs that guests are not a priority. Save yourself the stress and choose a hotel that actually values its customers.

Location is perfect, everything is walkable. Train to the mountaintop, the Guggenheim, both old and new town. Service is also excellent. You really experience this a as a modern hotel. The beds were slightly wobbly, not weird as ours were on wheels. And in the shower there is not much circulation, so there are some spots which are obviously harder to clean. Still a very good experience.

I had a 2-night stay at Barcelo during my business trip to Bilbao. I enjoyed my stay overall. The hotel is located in a very nice spot that is close to old town and to Guggenheim museum. I experienced good service and room was nice with comfy bed.

Great breakfast with many choices of food & very comfortable atmosphere. All hotel staff provide very good & professional services, especially the reception & the technical staff. The lobby lounge “EL Hall” is excellent, we were there everyday.

Good location and breakfast ok, but terrible reception and service. I was told by receptionist to email a complaint and even though I put the Manager’s attention and filled in their survey, I didn’t get any feedback during my five days stay there! The hotel is fair for business travels but if you are a tourist, please make sure to choose another hotel along the Nervion River and avoid this hotel who doesn’t care about their guests.

Excellent hotel with good rooms, attentive staff, and well located near the city center. The reception and bar are gorgeous, and they do good cocktails. Only downside is parking: only 50 slots for 300+ rooms... Plus you can't reserve a parking spot, it's first arrived first served, so better get there early. Otherwise you have nearby underground public parkings that are about the same price and are not far. Overall great experience.

The shower arm was broken. The room’s door did not close correctly. So, my room was left open all day long by the cleaning staff while I was away for the day! Luckily nothing was missing when I came back in the evening. They changed my room for the second night. The new room had a larger bed but was smaller in general. So, I do not feel it was a fair deal for me.

Very nice. Modern. Friendly staff. Late checkout available which was helpful. Beds are comfortable and rooms were updated and included all amenities. Wonderful shower

The hotel is definitely for business travelers but who cares, it's a great hotel. I stayed with my friend for vacation and not for business. The place was amazing, still. The hotel was very nice and chic. It was a minimalists dream at best. The room and hotel was very clean. The front desk staff was very friendly and informative especially for someone who only speaks English. If they did not know anything then they would find the answers for me. The only thing I wished is that it had a separate business center with computers and not just one in the lobby. The location was perfect! Close to everything. Do yourself a favor... make sure you book with breakfast .. you will be doing a disservice to yourself if you don't. The breakfast spread is ridiculous!

Wow! Great breakfast, great front staff, great bar snacks if you come in late, great room and fantastic access to the downtown, the river, and the Guggenheim! Good rate for a business-like hotel and not super far from the airport! No complaints!

Stayed here for conference from Saturday to Wednesday. Check in process was fairly easy. We checked in a little early without a problem. I thought the staff could have been a little friendlier, but it was not too bad. The room was modern and well appointed. It was not super large, but big enough. The bathroom was clean and modern. There was a shower only, no tub. The products were mid range. I do wish they would have USB outlets or charging devices as a standard. I think any modern hotel should have these. The bed was comfortable. I slept well. I was on the sixth floor and it was not noisy at all. The hallway was also quiet. The location is quite good. It is near the Zubizuri bridge. The Guggenheim is one tram stop away or a 10 minute walk. The tram stop is a 3-5 minute walk. I was in town for a conference. The conference center is 20 minute walk, but you can easily take the tram. Old town is a five minute walk. The center of the city is 5-10 minute walk. Cabs are plentiful if you do not feel like walking. The breakfast is 16 Euros. It is buffet style. It was Ok if you need to get a quick bite, but was overpriced. Food was average. There is a bar with reasonable priced drinks. The lobby is spacious. Very nice lobby. Comfortable chairs and sofas. Wifi is fast and free. Nice perk. Overall, a nice stay. If I return to Bilbao, I will strongly consider staying here.

This is a business hotel where business travelers check in, sleep, have breakfast and spend their whole day at work or somewhere else. If this is your intention then its not a bad choice. Our room was very basic with no view which was no big deal but there are a few things that were deal breakers for me. One of the most important things for me is quiet and this hotel is loud and noisy. The noise is coming from the inside. You can hear the woman walking in heels from the hallway, the dragging of furniture from the room beside and above you and every single noise you can imagine. This failed my quiet test from the moment I stepped in the room. if you are a light sleeper, stay away from this hotel. The service is spotty at best. I asked for restaurant recommendations and I always tell people that I would like to hear your personal recommendations, where locals go. The guys just gave me a street name and bade me goodbye. You ask for bus to the airport and you get different answers. Service was average at best. The only thing that was good was the breakfast, lots of options but beware of the business crowd that starts at 7 am. We had to get early breakfast due to our flight and it was a madhouse down there. The location of this hotel is pretty good as well. I personally do not recommend this hotel and am not a fan since there are so many other options that may not have the same issues that I have experienced. I have to say that TA disappointed me with this one BIG TIME!

Upsides: Location. Breakfast Buffet. Working Wi-fi. Downsides: My room wasn't cleaned to my satisfaction. Shower spilled into the bathroom because of partially missing seal. Front Desk staff not always fluent in english (nor french). Only tiny windows in my room. Overall I expected more but the location and the great breakfast make up for a lot.

Good hotel that is close enough to the city cente, the old town (casco viejo), and the Guggenheim and surrounding attractions. It helps that Bilbao is small enough, but you can walk your way pretty much anywhere from here. A taxi to and from the airport will set you back about €25 at most. The rooms are clean and big enough. The bed is huge; I had to wave to my girl friend to get her attention. The interior is fairly modern. The shower is nice. The room contains a safe, ironing board, an expensive minibar, and an electric kettle. The TV is limited but why on earth would you want to watch TV when you are here?? The WiFi is also good; they give you a login at the lobby when you check in. Would recommend and possibly stay again when visiting Bilbao another time.

It couldn't have been a more 4-star review if you had put a gun to my head. Why? Well, it's not a 5-star, but it was the experience I wanted. My particular room was very small, though I'd seen others that were significantly larger. I was fine with this. I wasn't trying to luxuriate. It was a good price, and they provided good service. The one nit was that service was required. My TV didn't capture more than 1 channel when I got into the room. They came by, managed to get 2 others to show up, but said it would take them some time to fix it, and that when I went out the next day, they'd have it addressed by the time I returned. It was a little odd, but I suppose they didn't want to inconvenience me while I was there. And they had it working with all of the channels when I got back, as promised. So they were true to their word. The location is on the opposite side of the river from the main activities, but it's a quick hop over one of many of the lovely bridges to get into things, and didn't take long at all. I would happily return to this property to stay again, though I would probably get a bigger room.

Great location, good value, nice staff cause us to like this place quite a bit. Modern and clean and on main road right on the river, close to the pedestrian bridge Zubizuri, walkable to the funicular, the Guggenheim, and the old town, in fact we walked everywhere. No health club and its underground parking was filled when we arrived but there is a public underground car park not too far away. A really good choice, imho.

Well located hotel with modern clean rooms. Very plesant stay at an affordable price. Friendly english speaking staff. The restaurant served good food and well priced. Only issue was sound proofing in rooms was not the best. You could hearing walking in shoes from room above and talking in hallway.
