Yelp
Let me give you the bottom line right up-front - this is the best hotel I've ever stayed in while visiting Europe, and is amongst the best of the best I've stayed in during any of my travels.
I had signed up for the My Barceló affinity program before arriving and even though this was only my first Barceló stay, I was warmly welcomed on arrival as "one of our family". Even though we arrived at the hotel in the early morning, the very nice young lady who checked us in had already made arrangements for our rooms to be ready on arrival, a very welcome surprise after a long overnight flight. We were also greeted by Sonia Palmero, an absolutely wonderful woman who is the hotel's Public Relations Manager, the team that's in charge of making sure that all of the hotel's guests are comfortable and well-taken care of. Sonia's truly genuine enthusiasm for her guests' comfort made for a wonderful welcome to Madrid, and we had the pleasure of chatting with Sonia several times throughout our visit, with our new friend making sure we had everything we needed and giving us some great suggestions about cocktail bars and restaurants we should check out during our time in Madrid. The hotel's greeting extended to a plate of baked goodies awaiting us in the room, a nice touch that put a smile on my face after a long night of sleepless travel.
The hotel has a modern décor that combines mid-century modern design with some cool design elements, including the big bear in the lobby tipping its top hat to you as you enter the hotel's lobby. The art continues throughout the hotel, in each floor's elevator lobby and in various corners of the hallways, all done in a tasteful yet playful way. The design carries into the Garra Bar, where we made good use of the 100 euro credit that we had for on-property spend.
Now, to the rooms, which were surprisingly large for a European hotel. The lovely décor of the hotel continued right into the room, the huge windows letting in a lot of light and making the room feel even more spacious. Our rooms also had small balconies that were perfect vantage points for watching the goings-on on Gran Via and in the Plaza de España. The bed is obviously the most important part of any hotel room, and this one was quite comfortable, making for a good night's sleep.
Probably the most amazing feature of the Barceló is its daily breakfast buffet - incredibly generous, with everything from freshly baked breads to omelets made to order to tortillas de patatas and more. I'll let the accompanying pictures speak for themselves!
The hallmark of this hotel is definitely its staff, providing the kind of professional service one would expect in five-star hotels but in a much more comfortable, friendly, and easy-going manner. It's this genuinely friendly approach to service that made this a great stay, and I'll definitely be considering the Barceló group for future hotel stays based on this experience.
The hotel is centrally located, right on a Metro stop and a short 10-minute walk to Sol, Madrid's central square - so with its great location, excellent amenities, and wonderful staff, your hotel selection for your next visit to Madrid is a no-brainer! (Say hello to Sonia for me when you visit!)
