I came in today for the first time 7.12.25 and this bakery is so Beautiful 😍 so many lovely treats, bread, and sandwiches! I was Floored! It is very pretty decorated, the girls are very nice and helpful. People were forming lines quickly my boyfriend and I ordered 2 boxes of a variety of baked goodies from powdered cream French horns, strawberry shortcakes, tiramisu, s’mores cake, etc. This will definitely not be my only visit as this place has so much to offer. Clean, and display is full of great baked treats! Plenty of seating and kid friendly.

Google
Just went to this bakery for the first time . Oh.my.God. The atmosphere is amazing , and the amount of choices they have is to die for. The tiramisu was phenomenal!! I can’t wait to go back and try something else . And the best part?? It was sooooo cheap!!!

Google
This bakery is the true fall River experience. Everyone speaking Portuguese, people knowing their customers and catching up with family details and such sweet staff. I always stop when I'm in town. Give yourself plenty of time, the lines are usually long and the atmosphere is enjoyed best in slow motion. Keep up the good work ladies 🥰

Google
Went to Barcelos Bakery for the fresh sweetbread and they did not disappoint. I had called prior to see if they had the coconut sweetbread and was told it’s available on Sunday hence 4 Stars for food. My wife liked the tiramisu like I stated in the comment section of the photo. Would have been a perfect score if not for missing a menu item that’s on the menu.

Google
This place is amazing. We had just stopped here on our on our way to RI. We purchased 4 sandwiches and 8 pastries, and paid under $45. We definitely expected it to come out to at least $60. The sandwiches were absolutely delicious, so if you're in the area, I'd highly recommend stopping by! (The Cacoila sandwich, Portuguese tuna sandwich, and Chorisso & pepper sandwich, were our favorites) Delicious food, Friendly service, Great pricing! We will definitely be back for more!

Google
My favorite Portuguese bakery in Fall River. Great selection of portuguese pastries. Almost forget you're in America when you hear the Portuguese music and the vavos in the background. My favorite Queijadas and Natas in Fall River and likely all of the south coast. These little Portuguese custards are delicious. the best around in the area.

Monee J.

Google
Every single thing I tried here was amazing, from the pastries to the coffee. Mocha Latte was perfectly delicious and the chocolate croissant was absolutely perfect. Not too sweet while still being extremely chocolate!! The Nata's are wonderful, and probably one of their best sellers. If you are from the south and love buttermilk pie ... this is for you!!

LARRY K.

Google
What an amazing place this is. Early Sunday morning, this place was buzzing. Tables full with patrons enjoying breakfast, with a line out the door waiting for service. Very organized and an incredible selection of baked goods. You could come here every day for a year and try something different and delicious. I left with a wonderful box of goodies.

Yelp
Worked in Somerset today & knew I had to make a couple of Portuguese stops on my way home First stop -- @barceloscafe in Fall River! I grabbed a bifana sandwich, chicken croquette, stuffed quahog, sweet bread, & of course, a pastel de nata. Haven't made it through everything yet, but what I have tried was delicious! Before heading out, I swung by @portugalia_marketplace -- super clean, beautifully organized, & packed with amazing options from take-home goods to ready-to-eat bites. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

Yelp
Small bakery, named after the picturesque town of Barcelos in northern Portugal, has a wide variety of typical portuguese breads, cakes and pastries. We bought a few items to try and were not disappointed. Parking up front, good service. Nothing really to pick on. We got the huge palmier, the malassadas (similar to the ones you can get in Hawaii, also of Portuguese origin), and a number of smaller pastries. Check out the photos. Recommend.

Yelp
Absolutely thrilled I live within walking distance of this family owned bakery. As soon as you walk in you can smell the fresh bread and bakery items. It's a Portuguese bakery so instead of sausage egg and cheese sandwiches they have some sort of meat I wasn't familiar with but ended up enjoying. They have sweetbread , Papas de carolo, and really just an endless variety of mouthwatering treats. Everyone there was very friendly and the service and line move fairly quick. Outdoor seating as well with umbrellas too. love this place!

Yelp
Amazing Portuguese baked goods. Went for the malassadas, left with malassadas, sweet bread, natas, and those little puff bites...oh my. All so delicious! Wonderful, sweet and helpful staff. And clean, adorable atmosphere. Probably the BEST sweet bread AND natas pastry I've ever had in my life! Highly recommend!!

Yelp
So good! Make sure you get some bread, it sells out! So many wonderful tarts- we'll be back for sure! Lovely staff and very helpful.

Yelp
Stopped into Barcelos to see what all the hype was about. Wow! This place was crowded. The line was long, but they did a great job at getting folks through the line quickly. We got sweet bread and a few other sweet treats. I thought the sweet bread was tasty. They definitely have a large varied selections. Everything was tasty! There are so many options in Fall River so I'd probably visit one of the smaller spots next time. Just to have a bit of a lower key vibe.

Yelp
Ordered a flan choco cake for Thanksgiving. Very disappointed, they lost our cake in the back had to wait 15 minutes. The cake itself was dry and the flan had the texture of scrambled eggs. I don't know what went wrong but will not be reordering any time soon.
google avatar

Sujatha H.

Yelp
Such helpful staff! I wasn't familiar with some of the specialties and they helped guide me with what was traditional, some favorites, and what was in the delights. We ended up getting a mix of traditional pastries and some Portuguese rolls to make breakfast sandwiches tomorrow. The guava pastel de nata was very tasty. As well as the chocolate brigadero (spelling?) were very tasty! Can't wait to try the rolls! Beautiful bakery with a very nice selection and great staff!

Yelp
What an amazing place! My first visit to Barcelo's Bakery & Cafe guarantees that I'll be back. I arrived at 10:30 on a sunny Friday in November and there was a line out the door. When I finally got in, I saw that all the tables were full in this comfortable spot decked out in Holiday decorations. The display cases were chock full of delectable-looking bakery items, but my eyes were drawn to the delectable Pastels de Nata, the little custard tarts that brought me here. I took a dozen home with me and they are the best I've ever had. I also wanted some Malafadas, but they sold out early as they do daily according to my server. There plenty of other tempting treats for me to choose from, though, and I did. Lots of fresh breads of all kinds were available as well as a wide variety of sandwiches made to order, all with a Portuguese flavor.

Yelp
This bakery used to be so good a few years ago now the pastries are sometimes left over from the night before the coffee is outrageously overpriced for what you get the owner disrespects her staff to the point they quit and there always looking for help because nobody wants to work for them and they charged there hours and close early when before they were open late we could go out at night and get a coffee and now we can't food is good but overpriced we used to love this place and were there every night and every weekend morning but haven't been back in a long time! SORRY we really did love this place before
google avatar

Kyleigh D.

Yelp
The best pastel de natas in the area! Very reliable place for good coffee, pastries and food. The customer service isn't always the friendliest but it's an authentic Portuguese experience.
google avatar

Vee M.

Yelp
Bakery packed at 8am Sunday. Lots of parking all around the streets. Service is excellent and goes through the large crowd fast. First time here and the lady at the front counter was so kind telling us quickly about all fun things they had. The Portuguese sandwiches are worth a try! The lobster tail was crispy yet filled with whipped cream inside. Perfect place for amazing bakery goods and pastries! Lots of seating to enjoy! A must try!

Judy H.

Yelp
A favorite place to be while in Fall River. You never leave disappointed unless they are out of something you wanted.

michael m.

Yelp
Super friendly but mixed quality. Portuguese influence and products. Highly variable depending on the baked items. Good and warm welcome Burck On way what you want.

Home Cookin A.

Yelp
Let me put this in a few words "I will never go back again. ". We were visiting Fall River to pick up some Portuguese meat for a special event and this bakery was recommended. Everything looks beautiful, but it all taste the same: same Phil crusted, the same cakes the same, terrible , not worth the trip.
google avatar

Vicki F.

Yelp
Amazing -- and authentic -- pastry spot full of locals. Stop in for the malasadas and buns, stay for the sounds of Portuguese spoken in line. Staff was super welcoming and gave me great recommendations.
google avatar

Jonathan C.

Yelp
Nice ham, egg and cheese sandwich. They asked what kind of cheese I wanted, and I chose Portuguese, which is St. George cheese. To me, it was like sharp cheddar . They also have coffee milk! Score!

Yelp
stopped here for road trip breakfast since it was just off the highway. crowded on a sunday morning but the line moved quickly. I wish the pastries were labeled because I didn't recognize a few - staff was helpful in answering questions though. I had a ham, egg, and cheese toasted sandwich and pineapple turnover and my mom had a coconut pastry - everything was delicious and fresh. coconut pastry was especially good - a balance of sweet and savory flavors. would definitely recommend and stop here again^-^

Yelp
We stayed overnight at Providence RI and was looking for places to have breakfast. As I searched I found more Portuguese community in the Fall River area. Barcelo stood out as a traditional Portuguese bakery especially that they make egg tarts! We drove 20 mins or so to Fall River it was worth every mile!! As soon as we arrived, trying to cross the street, cars were stopping for us with a kid. People were so wonderful there so friendly and polite! At the bakery we went crazy bought alot of baked goods such as the loaves for our friends in Maine, for breakfast and a chorizo sandwich for lunch!! Loved the donuts and bolo arroz!! Custardy bread and egg tarts!! Everything was great!! What a great find!!

Yelp
This place can be very busy so be ready to wait in line (especially if you're going on the weekend). They have a big selection and the prices are very affordable. The staff were all very efficient. I've never dined in but there are a decent number of seats for a cafe with a nice outdoor area in the good weather. There's an abundance of Portuguese bakeries in the area but this is a great one to try out!
google avatar

Peck O.

Yelp
Great selection of pastries. All the ones I tried were extremely fresh. Fresh bread that was perfect. Coffee was delicious. Service was excellent. Very helpful and patient. Great spot. Will definitely be going back.
google avatar

Bridgette Q.

Yelp
They have a nice selection of sweets and savory options. The staff is kind, some service bumps, not everything is labeled- so some minor confusion, but they're patient and make sure they get the right items. To be fair, I got a bunch of desserts. They have coffee & and pleasant atmosphere with an updated space . A nice surprise in Fall River, while I was stopping through.
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful bakery in Fall River with a multitude of options to pick from. Did not have to wait long at all to be helped while picking out desserts. I got two desserts and thought one was 5 stars and one 3 stars so I met in the middle and said overall 4 stars! I would try again!
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
The malassadas were so good. I had dessert before my lunch. I had a cacoila sandwich , the meat was so tender and flavorful and the bread was flaky soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. I hade a latte with my meal that was made perfectly. The shop was super clean and the variety of bake goods and fresh bread is amazing. I can't wait to try everything here! Also the wait staff here is amazing and very friendly! Prices are very affordable. I got a Latte, cacoila sandwich, chicken salad sandwich, 2 turnovers , meat pie and a malasada all for $21.50 .
google avatar

Yelp
This place some tasty authentic Portuguese pastries! They are delicious and I would recommend the queijada de villa. They are delicious and in individually wrapped.
google avatar

Yelp
So initially the only thing I had tried here was the malasadas. Best around and I drive from New Bedford anytime I have a craving for them. Today I brought my mom and grandmother since we were in the area. I had to bring them to the bakery I rave about! So I got the opportunity to try a bunch of different items from here finally... Custard Cups - not sure of the spelling. They are the standard Portuguese custard cup. I'm 36 and have been eating these since I can remember. All over the area. These by far, like the malasadas are the best I've EVER had. Pops - fresh. Crunchy flaky outside. Soft tasty inside. Tiramisu - my favorite dessert. Very well done here. Not the best I've had. Will buy again. Strawberry cheesecake - fresh as can be. Better than I expected. I really enjoyed this. No complaints! They had a line literally out the door. The kick ass staff handled it perfectly and quickly. Wish I could remember who helped us. Super helpful and nice. Will be back very soon!

Yelp
So if you play Violins or Cellos And if you like Reds, Pinks, or Yellows You'll love this egg tart And it won't make you fart So come try it right now from Barcelos When Messi's team loses, that's a Barca-loss. This is not that. Pretty spectacular Portuguese bakery that is massive and one of the most popular and recognizable ones in Fall River. I like it a lot and come here anytime I come to Fall River. They have good products and lots of good grocery store items as well. Their custard tarts are good, although not on the stellar otherworldly level of New Jersey and Toronto. Altogether I'm a massive fan.
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful bakery in Fall River. As a first timer I was impressed with the amount of selections, all freshly made. Plenty of staff and 2 large eating areas if you're eating in. There was a small line at lunch time and it seems as though the shoe town loves this place. I had a chorizo breakfast sandwich and it was fabulous. Also tried a coupe coconut desserts- nicely made and tasty.
google avatar

Donna L.

Yelp
I am not impressed by the customer service here. The array of baked goods is lovely - I haven't tasted mine yet, so cannot comment on the quality, but they are pretty. However, despite about 5 people behind the counter, only one currently serving a customer, no one welcomed customers when the came in the door; no one said "we'll be with you in a moment", no one even smiled. And when one of the women decided to wait on a customer, she simply spoke to the person directly in front of her despite the fact that two other people had been waiting longer. If there is a system of where to wait in line, where to order, it is not obvious. Just a little bit of attention to the customer would go along way to improve the experience at this bakery.

Bernadette V.

Yelp
Great service and amazing pastel de nata I make sure to stop by and get several dozen when im in the area every year!
google avatar

Yelp
Of the top six Portuguese bakeries (I loved every one of them), I think Barcelos is the best.
google avatar

Yelp
Love this bakery, the selection is incredible. The staff is awesome, very friendly and efficient.
google avatar

Larry K.

Yelp
What a wonderful bakery this is. Was highly recommended to me by locals and it did not disappoint. The selection of breads, pastries, pies, cookies, sandwiches was overwhelming but I managed to select an assortment of goodies sure to bring enjoyment to the party.
google avatar

June K.

Yelp
I bought desserts to bring to lunch at a friend's house. They loved the Natas and Rice Pudding. I wish I could have bought one of everything they all looked delicious. This is my new "go to" Portuguese bakery!
google avatar

Dante H.

Yelp
I ordered a bunch of things from here, maybe an egg tart and a savory sandwich or roll or something, but I only really remember the malasada so I'll be focusing on that. The other items were pretty cheap and tasty tho, and they had nice cheese. I remember when I was in third grade I went to the most popular Portuguese bakery in my state. This was the first time I ordered food alone and, since I was nervous I ordered a "manapua" instead of a malasada, but the workers knew what I meant and, after a brief laugh, all was good. I doubt they would've understood me here. In fact, a lot was different from that Portuguese bakery of my childhood. There was groups of people sitting, sipping coffee, and eating pastries. It seemed very European. The customer in front of me and many of those sitting were speaking Portuguese as well. I wasn't really sure how to order, like do I order at the cash register or the pastry counter? Anyway I got a malasada without a hitch. It was very different from that of my childhood (Leonard's, champions, pipeline, and Agnes alike, if you know where I'm from). It's big and a bit dense. It was also kind of oily and a bit cold, perhaps that was why it was a different texture? It was also breadier and sweeter than the sort of tangy malasadas of Hawaii. Either way it was tasty and very filling. Worth a try whether you've had malasadas from Hawaii or not, and also a cute bakery nonetheless.

Yelp
I was in Fall River to look at a few investment properties and I had an hour to kill in between viewings and I stopped into Barcelos Bakery to grab a quick bite to eat and was so happy I did!!! First of all it as authentic Portuguese as I've seen! From the moment you step inside you are made to feel at home. The bakery has tables so you can sit and enjoy a coffee and sandwich or pastry. I ordered a chicken sandwich a latte with oat milk and what I can only describe as a little slice of heaven in the form of a fried dough ball covered in sugar that melted in my mouth!!! The prices were also unbelievable! The sandwich I ordered was MAYBE $6.00. I got the grilled chicken on the softest bread with Caramelized onions and bacon and tomatoes it was so fresh the chicken was grilled to perfection. The sandwich was delicious!!! My iced latte BLEW Starbucks out of the water for a fraction of the price!! I couldn't believe the prices everything was so fresh and the prices were unbeatable! I would make the hour drive every day if I could just to eat here. I wish I could clone this bakery!

Yelp
It's right in the heart of the community. All the pastries are baked fresh. It smells fabulous, and that the coffee is strong and that's all you really want your neighborhood spot right!! service with a smile a great place to just chill in the afternoon if we have to get some work done I love this place.

Yelp
This seems hard to believe, my sister stopped to pick up some food at this place, and had to wait, a few people were ahead of her, what she saw she couldn't believe! There was a young girl waiting for her order, and an older woman as well, the young girl questioned about her order, cause you felt like it was a long wait, the employer came over with her sandwich and wrapped very messy like, then she SMASHED IT, and gave it to the girl, Who was so Upset, she left Crying, my sister said; she asked the clerk why did You do that, that was terribly Rude, and told her she didn't want her order and left without it, and said; She would never go BACK! When I asked my sister about this? I believe it was because the Girl that questioned her order was BLACK!!! Wow! I am placing this review in Hopes that this kind of attitude can't be tolerated, and think about this if you in Fact would want to do Business with these Hypocrites, I know I will not, and neither should you! That's Amazing to me, and hard to accept! So Please don't let Rude ignorant people think that this is Ok, cause it isn't, I wish I was there, I would have said; more than my sister did! Scum !!

Yelp
So i am looking for a place to have a cup of coffee and do some work for a little and I find this place barcelos Bakery. Although Google Maps had me going in circles a little bit I finally found it by looking at the line of people waiting to get inside! I walk inside and I'm overwhelmed with the beauty of the decor and the walls of bread and the case upon case upon case of pastries and Portuguese classics! really incredible really amazing blown away and amazing helpful staff. But with the number of people that are in line and no signs on any of the food you better know what you want before you get in line because the people behind you get impatient! It's like The Soup crazy dude in New York City no Portuguese bread for you. But what an incredible friendly Place! love this place!
google avatar

Yelp
You do not have to be Portuguese to love the tasty treats at this gem of a bakery in Fall River. If you want the best quality authentic baked goods and sandwiches, this is the place to go. The servers here on a Monday morning were super friendly and helped us navigate the huge selection of unfamiliar items. They have both sweet and savory items. Early on a Monday morning the place was packed with locals, a good sign. We purchased the Malasadas, a cross between a doughnut and Italian fried dough. The were a big hit with everyone, especially the grandchildren. The chicken croquettes were crisp on the outside and filled with a mashed potato chicken mixture which were delicious. I would have liked them hot but they were served at room temperature. The cream filled doughnuts were also a big hit. They were not overwhelmingly sweet and the cream was perfect. Coffee was excellent and served in big cups. They have and outstanding selection of breads and rolls, but the gem was the large sweet bread, hot of the oven, the best I have ever had. They make excellent French toast. This is now a must stop for me the next time I am in The Newport area. It is only a 30 minute drive and worth every minute.

Yelp
This restaurant is my all time favorite for Portuguese food. My family and I have been going for over 30 years and it's better than ever.

Yelp
Incredible selection. Delicious treats! Very friendly workers. My kids didn't want to leave!

Yelp
Price wise, this bakery is a steal!! The coffee is strong! I usually go with a double shot latté and it comes with plenty of foam. If you want to try something Portuguese and authentic: The Portuguese Bifana or caçoila sandwiches are SO SO SO good. I like adding a slice of Portuguese cheese and having it put on the panini for an extra something. The chouriço and peppers on a regular Portuguese roll is also juicy and tasty! Back to my basic as always wife . She's picky and doesn't like to take chances, so she always goes for the grilled chicken sandwich. She adds bacon, mustard, onions and cheese. Adds it to the panini and bam! The great thing is the girls are basically willing to customize any sandwich to your taste without question. The pastries are most generally always fresh. We love their Portuguese queijadas (custards), especially the Nutella ones. And the red velvet cheesecake is also a favorite. Lastly, try their sweet bread and the butter biscuits! Make sure you take a bag home and have it with some coffee and milk!!

Yelp
Best bakery for sweets in the city of Fall River. They have such a selection of pastry and cakes and Portuguese sweets it's unbelievable! I haven't seen a bakery like this in the city until I walked into this one. Most bakeries are either all Portuguese or all pastry and cakes. Barcelo's has so much of a selection it's unbelievable. Also, they have tables and chairs if you want to have a coffee or expresso. They may even have chorico rolls, if I remember. Very happy with this bakery! My favorite

Yelp
I went on a Saturday morning around 8, and there was already a line and the bakery already packed with customers. It was a cultural experience, a local Portuguese bakery in the Fall River area. The process of getting orders went fast, kinda reminded me of a deli, where people are shouting for the next customer to keep things moving, however because of this I felt like customer service wasn't necessary warming, they were just rushing and trying to get the job done but for a busy bakery, what would you expect. Staff speak both English and Portuguese. Food review: I got a breakfast croissant roll with ham and cheese, the croissant was nice and flaky with buttery goodness. Although I have to say the ham seemed kinda dry. But overall good. I also wanted to try a bakery item, so I decided on the egg tarts since I heard it was one of the bakery's best item. Reminded me of Chinese egg tarts, custard brûlée center. I love how the crust was flaky, thick. Perfect combination of custard and crust. Personally the custard was a little too sweet for me compared to the Chinese egg tarts but still remarkably good! Summary: Definitely a local gem to try! Pros: Quick service Opens super early 4 am Amazing bakery items Low to average pricing - medium ice latte, 2 egg tarts and a croissant with ham and cheese was only $7

Yelp
You can't get any more authentic than this for a traditional Portuguese bakery in a traditional neighborhood of an ethnic community on a Sunday morning as local church services are letting out. Cases and cases of fresh wonderful pastries, the likes of which I have not had in nearly 20 years. It was our first time here though I have been to similar in East Providence. We stuffed ourselves with too many of our favorites but it was a one shot deal, just passing through. But thanks to Yelp, it's reputation is known beyond the neighborhood. There is a high sweetness factor so be prepared. Because of my gray hair, people expected me to speak Portuguese but I don't so we got by pointing since there were no labels. There were a few things that needed explaining and the staff was bilingual, but not all the other customers. My husband's coffee was good, my tea not really. My bad choice. It's a coffee place from gazing at other tables. They open every day at 5am as authentic east coast local bakeries should! Long lines in waves as groups came in dressed from church, but the line moved quickly as the local regulars all knew what they wanted. A really lovely stop on our way from Cape Cod to Providence.

AF S.

Yelp
This is a cozy neighborhood bakery with a bit of flair. The staff is cordial and helpful. Fresh bread is available for purchase and beautiful desserts in their display cases. The coffee was good too! I will definitely visit again and bring a friend.

Yelp
Excellent pastries and bread. No consideration for public safety during this Covid 19 pandemic. I can understand customers not wearing masks when eating at their tables, but when I saw customers roaming with no masks on and no effort from employees to encourage guidelines from CDC, I had to leave and will not return. My life matters too.

Yelp
This is definitely one of the cutest bakeries around! When you walk in it is clean, modern and Mediterranean beautiful. Seating is ample, mostly small tables and charges with a few comfy seats and televisions around. Long pastry cases dazzle your eye. The most difficult thing about here is what to order! Items do not have names on them so it's all about what catches your eye, and love at first sight. They have some classic Portuguese lunch options like chourico and peppers, and other common meats. Very delicious! They also have cappuccinos, coffee and other warm beverages. I've had the cappuccino and it's pretty good! We've come to hang out and relax and we've also come with friends. The staff is usually pretty friendly, especially about bringing your order to your table and helping clear empty dishes before you leave. I have found it to be a bit overwhelming to not know what certain things are in the cases, and the staff has seemed to be annoyed. We had friends visiting who aren't from the area and are not familiar at all with Portuguese foods and treats that we are spoiled with and the staff wasn't so helpful. Overall this is a great spot to relax! The treats do seem to look better than they taste, but for the overall package this is a must stop on your local food tour. Make sure to get some sweet bread for home, best grilled with butter!
