15 Best Bars in Madrid

"Everyone gets a front-row seat at this snug underground music lair, which hosts flamenco nights, funk shows, and late-night DJs. The arched brick ceilings make you feel like you're in a subway tunnel—with the reverberating acoustics to match. The crowd is as diverse as the musicians. Expect an older, more sedate clientele at the nightly live music shows (the Sunday flamenco acts are excellent) and a trendier, younger set on weekends—especially after 2 a.m., when things really start heating up." - Benjamin Kemper

Google
Small but great music bar offering live music acts (check the website or programme outside the club for upcoming events). €12 gets you in and a free cocktail, €10 gets you in and a beer. Thereafter, drinks prices are pretty steep at €5 a beer and €13+ for a cocktail. Sound quality is good and the crowd is mixed, mostly 30's and up. The venue can be hired for private functions, but check out the whopping price list.

Amazing live music 5€ entry with drink included

Loud, dark and crowded late night (early morning) club. Some obviously love it, but it wasn't for me. Maybe I'm too old for this site. ;-)

A lot of men, public of 25-35. The music is not that great, sort of electronic mixes of 2015 songs. Nice staff, the entry is 10€ + a free cocktail. We had a good evening tho!

I go out here quite a lot! It's a fun place to go out with fun music. Some nights they have live music too! It has two floors, so when it gets busy they open the basement, where they play different music. Entrance is 10€, including a drink. Don't get there too early though, as it tends to be dead before 1-2 AM.

It's a relatively nice bar. However it is quite small and it has a weird distribution. When I went to the concert, there was no air ventilation, so it smelled like warm death. Also alcohol is quite expensive.

Located right before the meeting point of Malasaña and Gran Via, BarCo is a superb bar that hosts outstanding jazz,  funk, rock and blues live performances. The acoustics is top notch and the place attracts a chilled out and happy crowd. This is an extremely popular place so arrive early to avoid the long queue.

Pop and/rock music. Great Ambien and normally crowded. Recommended to go before 2AM so there will be no queue normally for the entrance. However the major part of the people arrives normally at 03AM (more or less). It opens until 06AM. I totally recommend it. The only "bad point" is the alcohol served there...recommended to take only beer

Yelp
Every other Sunday they have a R&B Soul kind of band. The singer Christine is amazing. I could have listened to her all night. Its a jam session sort of feel and the band members swap out and all sorts of talents show up to participate. There were rappers, singers, dancers, instrumentalists. And my best friend that I was with got up there and tore the house down. Everyone loved her. It was amazing. There is such a welcoming spirit here. Another singer, Ginger, made sure we were introduced to people. Christina bought us drinks. People danced with me. I couldn't have had a better experience here. The decor is very urban, jazzy, blues-ie, and the crowd was so diverse. Definitely my kind of spot. Made our last night in Madrid a winner.

Yelp
Attended the Cool Weather Jam while I was in town. Had a great time dancing to the various musicians. There is no seating, so dress casual and comfortable. Drink prices were reasonable. Met some really cool people from all over the world. I recommend checking their website to confirm the activities for the evening.

Yelp
This is exactly the reason Madrid is a "night city." At first I didn't understand, but with events like Barco starting at midnight in the middle of the week. I get it. On the particular night I visited, Freshness was performing. It's a jam session, the group plays and sings as if it's improvised. The singer sings random things, random songs, sometimes make up the words, sometimes actual songs they wrote. Once he looked at his two guitarists and sang, "whaaaaaaaaat are you doing????" because they were totally lost. Freshness had a guitarist, bass, drummer, trumpet, keyboard. They play and accompany the singer, and they're very good!! A moment later, somebody from the audience asks, "Hey can I play the next song with you?" and swaps with the guitarist. Later someone swapped with the drummer. We had 2 other different singers as the main singer went to bar to take shots. The keyboard guy is cute, he got a solo and he's amazing. It's thanks to the singer (who's so lovely, I talked to him of course!!!), I find him really cute too and he's full of energy. It's thanks to him I want to take dance classes again! That is one highlight of Barco, but they have tons of other musicians play. Freshness plays every Wednesday. AND OH YES, you meet a LOT of locals here. But also a lot of tourists, because nobody really goes out Wednesday nights. (Back in Toronto, Wednesdays are study days) The bartenders are snobby. It's 5€ for a Mahou beer though. I for one had a lot of fun here, I got a cute guy's number (but we never chatted after hahaha), and the atmosphere is soooooo cool. I arrived at 11:45pm and nobody was there, I asked if there's a show? The show starts at 12:30am, intermission at 2, then starts again at 2:30am. Crazy huh? And these locals have work at 9 the next day! I LOVE THIS!!! You only live once! The bar got a LOT busier at around 1am. By busy, I really mean it! A lot of people!! Almost club-like! Ah, Malasaña you're so cool.

Yelp
We were just visiting Spain for a week, and so glad we decided to stop by here. Band was great and we had so much fun dancing to Elvis and other random fun songs. We saw Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell and all that yada yada tourist attractions, but being at this wonderful music venue, and wandering back to our hotel at 4 am on one of the rainiest nights, was one of the most memorable parts of our trip. Would definitely visit again if we had the chance

Yelp
BarCo is the best way of enjoying the night in Madrid. Very tranquil and relaxing place. Prices were not so expensive for the live performance venue. Shots from 3€ beer Was 5€ you better check the website for scheduled performances.

Yelp
Very nice club, I loved the music. Really enjoyed my night. Only thing: don't leave your stuff anywhere in the club. My coat and the ones of my friends got stolen. But apart from this, I'd recommend anyone willing to have a good night out to go there :)
