"I Want to Buy Everything at the Barefoot Contessa I adore this little boutique on Main Street that’s simply stuffed with gorgeously girly styles and flirty retro clothes. You can find plenty of Canadian designers here too, and there’s an especially good selection in the jewelry section. While you’re there, browse their organic toiletries, lust over their must-have shoes and start plotting how you need your bedroom to basically be an offshoot of this store..."

My partner bought me a Christmas present from here which unfortunately wasn't to my liking. He was able to return it however, and was given store credit. We went in yesterday and I picked out this amazing typewriter. I'm very happy with this purchase and what a great find. Also, very grateful to the owner who took the time to find us a place where we can have the typewriter cleaned and inspected as needed which I appreciate. The store itself is beautiful with many great items.

A lovingly curated store with collectibles. The interior is warm and welcoming and the display surfaces are covered with charming knickknacks. There are pretty jackets and dresses in vibrant hues and quirky touches abound. The decor pieces and brooches are endearing. The shop assistant was very friendly. I hope the store ramps up its offerings.

I love barefoot contessa so much, this store makes my heart sing. I have shopped here for years, as they have been in business on main st for decades now, and they always have gorgeous inventory in store. If you’re looking for gift items, a dress for a special occasion, or one of a kind curated vintage finds, look no further. The owner is really friendly and you can tell she is so passionate about her little shop. It also always feels great to shop and support local. Worth every penny and you’ll be happy with the treasure you pick up from here!

I love the shop! There was this young, kind girl with brown hair, very beautiful, who showed me things inside; she helped me choose something I didn't even see at first, but now I love it so much ^^ I recommend going to this shop and talking to the employee. I assure you that you will have a great and wonderful time! Thats something more and more rare to get, and we need to protect shops like this one! I will totally go back to it to buy gifts for my mother next time I'm in town!

If you are sensitive to smells this is not the place for you. Even walking by the store the smell of incense (and? other things?) is *extremely* overwhelming. I can’t support a business that can’t take smell sensitivity seriously, it’s a real thing that people should be aware of and think about the clientele with more consideration. I only went inside here one time and had a poor experience with the woman who didn’t acknowledge me.

Lovely local clothing shop. Plenty of romantic floral dresses, jewelry and accessories. When I knew I had to buy a dress for a wedding I would be attending, I immediately thought of coming to this store first to find something unique. I wasn’t disappointed!

I would like to share my same frustration as others who have consigned their items here. I have also consigned many of my high quality items here, and under the agreement I have requested for my unsold items to be returned. When the Commercial store shut down and moved all their items to their Main shop, I did not hear a word from the owner about this. I have called, emailed, sent messages and not a response back. I have lost many of my consignment items from this shop. There's no respect and integrity to her business. I'm sorry but I have to speak out about this. This apparently has been happening to many others as well. I am always happy to support small businesses but not when there's no communication or integrity to their work.

Google
This has one of my favourite stores, so today decided to go in and with hopes of finding some dresses. Most dresses were vintage, which is nice but there was not a lot of options for sizes or those vintage style and modern options of dresses. As well when I walked into the store, one of the store workers was loudly airing her personal business which created, what I felt, a negative energy. I immediately wanted to get out as I felt uncomfortable and awkward as if I was walking into a private conversation. I felt invisible and disappointed. Might take a break from visiting the store for a while.

Yelp
I love the unique selection in this shop. Lovely incense, perfume, vintage items, and unique and wearable clothing. Comfortable place to shop with lots of space in dressing rooms, helpful staff. Always very tolerant and helpful with my kids too.

Yelp
Cute little store on Main street carrying a variety of pretty things from dresses, jewelry, and gifts. They even sell crystals as well as tarot cards. Some items are new while others are pre-loved. Items are on the pricier side, but they are one of a kind.

Yelp
I wish I could give zero stars. This lady is a SCAM ARTIST who stole the hundreds of dollars worth of clothing I brought in for consignment. About two months after I brought my things in she closed up shop on Commercial Drive, so naturally I called, several times. Voicemail was always full. I sent private messages on FaceBook, no reply. NOTHING. She did nothing to notify me that she was closing, gave me no opportunity to pick up my items, made no attempt to contact me whatsoever or give me any payment at all. I have no doubt she sold my things, and kept the money. I received zero dollars. She should be ashamed of herself for defrauding me and her customers with these kind of business practices. I hope she goes bankrupt.

Yelp
My daughter loves the styles at Barefoot Contessa. At the Commercial Drive location she purchased a raincoat. Simple & stylish and priced affordably. The store looks like a mish mash of "stuff" but if you look closely it's actually very neatly placed and organized. The style is very girly and unique, it's like going into grandma's attic and finding treasures from way-back-when. She did find a few things she liked at this location, unfortunately they sold out of her size. My reason for the 2-star rating is because of the limited selection of items. They don't carry much stock. One of this or two of that. It seemed very "Odds & Ends". Customer service was lacking. The store itself had a musty smell to it. The flooring was old wood and in some areas you need to careful or you could trip on the parts where the wood cracked and lifted. We were wearing flipflops that day and stubbing a bare toe on the edge of the cracked wood would really cause damage. I'm hoping they get it fixed soon.

Yelp
I was stressed & cranky before going into this shop but the place was like a reset on my nervous system! So charming, girly, quaint, romantic, enchanting.....loved it, the products, the details... ‍

Yelp
I want to give this place a better rating so badly because the clothes are just so darned cute! That being said it's a bit hit and miss on the quality. I have some items that I've had for years and they still hold up, but I've also bought items that have literally fallen apart after wearing a few times. I hope they can work this out so I can trust everything that I buy from there.

Yelp
Gorgeous, beautiful, and stunning. Oh, you thought I was describing the store? Yes, that works too, but really, that's what people will be saying about you when you wear your purchases from Barefoot. I've been shopping here for 6 years. It's a rare day when there isn't something I want to buy from Barefoot. The clothes here I haven't found anywhere else. It's all very feminine and girly, but sometimes that is a good thing. They have a small but interesting selection of shoes, too. The staff are just the sweetest, and are happy to offer advice and tips on fit. Which is great for me, as I tend to shop alone a lot. I think the best features I realized this weekend were the mirrors and lighting. You must think I am insane, but the mirrors and lighting didn't make me look bloated and crappy, like most stores do. I actually looked good, which made me feel good, and then I bought a dress. It was on sale, and had a print with cherries, how could I say no? The pricing isn't cheap, but for quality, unique and beautiful clothes, the prices are reasonable. Especially if you find something on sale, as I did.

Yelp
I'm not much of a girly-girl, actually if I didn't have the body parts, I wouldn't even know that I was one. I don't own a single pair of heels or a even one tube of lipstick. But something about this shop just makes that hidden princess inside me sing. Maybe its all the pretty soft lighting or the random knick-knacks all over the place. I step inside and I want to try everything on. Keep in mind, I can easily wear the same jeans and tshirt for 5 days straight and not care. The shop is just magical, that's the only way to describe it. The best thing is that they have deals every Tuesday, like half off party dresses or two for one specials.

Yelp
This store is all so lovely, feminine and twee. The type of independent and unique small business for which Main Street is best known. Its pretty quaint decor and merchandise is an eclectic mix of retro, vintage, French country and ethnic influences. One will find dainty antique crockery to fun and fancy occasion wear. I love to visit this store just to browse their accessories and unusual little finds. Although they do carry a varied collection of womenswear, I find that some of the clothes, many of which have hefty price tags are of average quality in terms of tailoring and finesse. However, they do have great sales in summer and winter. Staff are always friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Flirty, feminine, funky, this place is delightful gem on Main Street. The decor is shabby chic with pink all about so you can't help put feel girly. I am always guaranteed to find something I love there because they sell beautiful, unusual clothing, jewellery, and odds and ends. They always have a great selection of dresses for occasions ranging from casual to semi-formal. If you are looking to spoil yourself a little (the dresses range in price, about $90 and up) and feel like a princess, then Barefoot Contessa is the perfect place to find a dress. And chances are, no one else will have it either, because this ain't no Forever 21. The jewellery selection is quite extensive and they sell a lot work by Vancouver designers, so it's nice to support your own city. Because there the jewellery selection is so great, I find it a perfect spot to go gift shopping. I can usually find a piece in my price range that I think will suit the taste I'm shopping for (and I usually find something covetable for myself, too). There are always cute accessories too- the hats and hairbands are always decidedly chic and girly. There's even stuff for the wee ones! They sell the most darling (see: heart meltingly cute) baby/toddler clothing as well as really neat and nostalgic vintage games. (I bought an old school fishing game for my cousins and they absolutely loved it) And to top it all off, the staff is always helpful and friendly. They are not pushy or impatient, which is great for an indecisive fashionista like me. Hmmm, me thinks a shopping trip is now in oder....

Yelp
If you are looking for an escape from the usual on Main Street, pop into Barefoot Contessa for something different. The Barefoot Contessa is aptly named. Entering this store definitely feels like stepping into a modern day princess's dressing room at her summer villa. Lots of pretty frocks are on display along with unique jewelery, feminine home decor, and sweet gift items.

Yelp
A girly girl's dream! Tons of adorable dresses at relatively reasonable prices (everything I ever look at seems to be $79), perfect if you're looking for something to wear to a summer wedding or other semi-formal occasion. Really, I wish I had more excuses to dress up! This is also a great place to purchase gifts as they have tons of cute jewelry at a variety of price points - from $10 - $100+. Every time I go in here to pick out a gift, I always end up leaving with one (or two) things for me... I just can't help myself....

Yelp
their sale for 'boxing week' is fab! Five bucks, five bucks, five bucks.... hairbands, sunglasses, knee socks... and 50% off clothing.

Yelp
Awful attitude not going back there ever again, a lot of overpriced low quality items

Yelp
Of all the pretty places you could shop, this is one of the prettiest I've seen anywhere. This store, which has a location on Main Street and one at 1928 Commercial Drive, sells lovely women's clothes, much of which is designed and made locally or in Canada, along with charming accessories, stationery, some baby clothes and accessories, and an eclectic mix of home decor and gift items. No matter what you are in the mood for, if it's precious and girly The Barefoot Contessa will have it. The clothes aren't cheap, but neither should they be as they are all made with such care and attention to every lacy detail. It's not all frilly, though, much of what they carry is actually a bit edgy, too: think pretty girl cruising around on her motorcycle. This store is a must-visit for anyone who loves things that are delightfully pretty, original and very creative.

Yelp
This is definitely the shop to go to if you want to be kitted out like a girly-girl. Racks of floaty dresses, ruffles and lace, satin and sashes. Even their maxi dresses, a fashion abomination generally, are cute. And I loved the kids corner, especially the vintage picture books - A to Z of Puppy Dogs! Even though I didn't find what I was in the market for, I enjoyed the look.

Yelp
Really cute place. I always find something fun to take home. Staff are lovely and helpful too.

Yelp
I went to the store today after passing few times and looking at the store from outside! The display is so beautiful! I'm a girly-girl. I adore anything that has ruffles, lace or floral prints! This store carries all kind of dresses that any girl would love to have! Very unique and different than most places around Vancouver. I'm not easy to satisfy, yet I managed to find 5 dresses in half an hour! The dresses are very well made and beautiful! Their jewelry section is worth checking out as well! They had a nice collection of feminine cardigans and blouses. I didn't buy any of them since I'm trying to "save" and they are a bit pricy. To be honest, you can find some of them cheaper online. Three out of the 5 dresses I liked were available online for $20-$40 cheaper. However, you still need to pay for shipping/import tax if you are getting them online. I honestly loved the store and so does my friend! I'm definitely going when they have sales and the prices are more student-friendly!

Yelp
Sugar and spice and everything nice. Barefoot Contessa, with its sweetly pink storefront, is as pretty as it's going to get. The boutique itself is akin to walking into a giant, life-size fondant cake. The last comment is meant in the most complimentary way possible. Inside are the kinds of confections any repressed princess craves to wear. Lace, tulle, drapery, flounce... Despite all the apparent froth, substance and quality are always close behind. Barefoot Contessa is the perfect place to go when you need a fun little dress that will last you a lifetime.

Yelp
Barefoot Contessa has a pretty good selection of party dresses, tops and accessories. The prices are pretty reasonable. I manage to find a really nice well made dress that could easily be found on the racks of a BCBG store but minus the fefty price tag. Their stuff are unique, feminine and girly. They also sell scented candles, soaps and other girly stuff. So it's a great place to get a little something for oneself or birthday gifts.

Yelp
Such a sweet store! I recently revisited this Main Street boutique and was pleasantly surprised to find it had expanded into the space next door, as well. Double the pleasure, and double the selection of footwear for Fido!

Yelp
Horrible experience. I'll never shop here again. Once they have your money it's good bye. we bought a Christmas present for our family member. The goods didn't fit and when we tried to exchange for a different size or product they said 'all sales final' bye. WHAT! no exchange or anything! There are MANY better places to shop that have REAL customer appreciation policies.

Yelp
occassion: find a dress for a friend's wedding first impression: i stepped into pretty women land. the store was pink and girly and all around wonderful. the staff was nice and friendly, while at the same time giving me enough space to browse. the ladies who helped me gave good pairing suggestions and didn't rush me. i read the notice in the change room that all purchases are final, so make sure you know for sure you will love what you buy - this is not very hard in this shop! i ended up buying a cute (pink!) dress and a belt to go with and a little bow, and the total came to $118 after tax - really not bad for 3 items! i will definitely come back for more.

Yelp
This is one of the first places I check for something fun, girly, and unique to wear to a party. A previous poster remarked that the dresses are not great quality for the price and she has a point. I am occasionally frustrated when the only dress of a particular design that they have in my size has a small hole or a missing button. Nonetheless, their dresses are so cute and perfect for new years, weddings, and banquets. PS. take a peak into the jewelry cases. Their selection of necklaces, headbands etc. is somewhat limited but the pieces are delightful!
google avatar

Olivia M.

Yelp
Beautiful dresses, generous and lovely staff. I spent a little less then $200 on a hat and dress and was happy to do so. So, pricey, well staffed, unique items, and a general delight.

Dezy N.

Yelp
This store was the highlight of my dress buying experience!!! not only is the appearance of the store amazing but i absolutely loved the selection! They had fun original dresses that no one else at my event had. The service was nice but not pushy. One tip though: since they only order a few of each style if you find a dress you like don't wait: buy it! I learned the hard way after falling in love with a royal blue chiffon dress. love this place and I suggest it to anyone and I will be coming whenever i am in need of a dress!

Yelp
PROS: This weekend my mom and I set out on a quest to find a dress for my semi-formal. I was in a bit of a grouchy mood, because I was expecting to have to go shopping all day to find something cute, sensible, and something that wasn't going burn all my money. I went to Barefoot Contessa for the first time and was SO happy with what I found! Considering that I went shopping not long after Christmas/New Years, apparently the store only housed the leftovers from the holidays, but even that seemed very impressive. The clothes are adorable and well cut, so I managed to find a handful of potential dresses. I walked out with an adorable Bette Davis type of 50s dress, which I feel great in! CONS: The sales girl was just a tad aggressive for my tastes. I tried only maybe 8 dresses in her eyes every single one looked great, despite one blatantly being extremely tight in the bust. She was very friendly, but I prefer a more laid back approach when it comes to shopping. Another thing is the sizing. If you're a very petite person, you will love this store. I'm a very average person in terms of my body, so I'm almost always able to fit into a medium. The medium at this store fit in most cases, but wasn't comfortable and was very tight at the breast. If you've got a bit more love on your hips, it might be a bit harder to find clothing here because they only go up to a large. So I managed to find something AFFORDABLE and CUTE! It brightened my day!

Amanda L.

Yelp
This is one of my favourite stores to wander through on Main Street, but my experience has changed lately. Not a friendly vibe off the staff who seem too busy to really help, and so I probably won't go back. Store is adorable, so it's a shame.
