Barefoot Scuba

I recently did my PADI Open Water Diver certification at Barefoot Scuba, and it was truly an incredible experience. I stayed at one of their A-frame huts, which offered a mattress, a fan, and a mosquito net - more than enough for a solo diving trip, especially at the low cost. There are bigger, better cottages available for those who’d like a fancier stay. I’d done a fair bit of research before choosing a dive centre - and every single recommendation spoke highly of Barefoot, especially the high standards of instruction and the strong emphasis on safety at all times. My instructor, Avinash Lall is one of the best in business, and his calm demeanour and crystal clear instructions helped us stay calm and take the right actions in every situation. We went to Nemo Reef for the shore dives, and to White House Rock and SS Inchkeith Wreck for the boat dives. We faced a fair bit of currents during the boat dives, but thanks to Avinash’s clear briefing ahead of the dives for what we’d do in each situation, we had absolutely no issues. At every single point during the four days of the course, be it at 18m depth or in currents, I felt absolutely safe and in great hands, which really helped me let go of any concerns I had, and really enjoy the experience of being immersed in the underwater world. Although the visibility tended towards the average side due to a variety of reasons, I was truly awed by the wild beauty of the ocean life, and the rich colours they had to offer. From trigger fishes, anemones, snappers, barracudas, razor fishes, damsels, shrimps to a wide variety of nudibranchs, corals, sea cucumbers and the elusive Mr Turtle, I feel blessed to have witnessed such amazing flora and fauna. For anyone wondering which dive centre to go with, I’d suggest not to make ‘price’ the only criteria. Look at reviews about the standards of instruction, quality of instructors, equipment, safety, etc. In every one of these, I’d give top marks for Barefoot. Thanks also to the wonderful management team, instructors, divemasters, divemaster trainees, and to my buddy for making this dive experience so memorable! Would 💯 % recommend!

Enjoyed my open water certification to the hilt. Special thanks to Ravi (the instructor) for being thorough yet patient with our batch of 4 guys - his calm and composure rubbed off on us as well. The rest of the training crew including the dive master trainees and the larger team at the dive shop were extremely helpful. The property itself is beautiful and serene. The perfect getaway for folks looking for some calm and quiet by the ocean/beach along with the thrill of scuba. The resort staff (kitchen+housekeeping) are extremely kind and helpful. They accommodated our every request with utmost patience and attention to detail.

Wonderful in one word!! Located in Govind Nagar just about 2.5 KM from the Swaraj dweep port. It has only few cottages but one of the best option in this island. Booked a sea front duplex cottage airconditioned. It has a earthy feel with the minimalistic wooden furnitures, has a aura of freshness. The house is impeccable with clean bath, towels and bed. The ground floor has drawing room with tea/coffee amaenity, minibar and bathroom with bath amenities. The wooden staircase takes to the bedroom upstair, has a electronic safe and a balcony with Lazy chairs. The sea view from the drawing room is breath taking. Staffs are well trained and helpful. Restaurant was under maintanence and hence the food was served in the room. Food options are limited and quality is manageable. However there are great restaurants nearby, one of such is full moon Cafe. WIFI is free but is only connects around the reception area. There is no phone / intercom in the room, one need to go to the reception is anything is needed. One disadvantage is the approach to the hotel is through a few meter long narrow pathway that has potholes and filled up with rainwater. Thoughtful addition is a bucket of water and a mug in front of all the cottages to wash sand smear feet to avoid dirtying the room. Note: There is an option for Candle light dinner by the beach, night lamps lights the pathway guiding to the beach. Wokeup early and saw the sunrise in the private beach of the hotel. Had a great experience! It was value for money and definitely recommendable. Note: there's a Barefoot Jungle Resort ( literally in the jungle) near Radhanagar Beach with a private beach located approx 10 km from the port.

We as a family of 4 did snorkling here. I was a first timer and that too not being a swimmer ; trainers Gayatri, Bidyut and Srikanth were simply awesome. They were thoroughly professional and guided very well. Bidyut was explaining different fishes and spotted an octopus ! Gayatri filmed the whole activity like a pro. Srikanth guided calmly to take fear of water out of us. Loved the whole event

I recently completed both my Open Water and Advanced Open Water certifications here, along with specialty dives in Night, Deep, Nitrox, and Peak Performance Buoyancy, and the experience was nothing short of breathtaking—and not just because of the regulator! From the moment I arrived, the hospitality and professionalism of the team were evident. The instructors were not just knowledgeable but also incredibly passionate about diving. They transformed complex concepts into easily digestible lessons, ensuring I was always comfortable, confident, and safe under the surface. Whether we were descending into the deep blue or navigating through a pitch-black night dive, I felt completely at ease thanks to their expert guidance. The support staff and boat crew deserve a special mention—they were the unsung heroes of every dive. Always ready with a smile, they ensured the gear was prepped to perfection, the boats were ready to sail, and the transitions between dives were smooth as a sea cucumber. The accommodation was clean, cozy, and calm—the perfect place to relax after a long day underwater. It’s a diver’s haven both above and below sea level. The vibe is laid-back but organized, and there’s a clear emphasis on safety, sustainability, and making guests feel at home. The specialty dives added layers of excitement and depth—both literally and figuratively—to my training. From hovering like a pro during buoyancy drills, each specialty dive was an unforgettable experience. And the night dive? Let’s just say diving by moonlight with bio-luminescence dancing around me was pure aquatic magic. Overall, Barefoot Scuba Resort doesn’t just teach you how to dive—they help you fall in love with the ocean. Their name might be Barefoot, but they leave deep footprints in the hearts of everyone who visits. If you’re considering diving in the Andamans, stop thinking and just take the plunge. You’ll surface with skills, memories, and a serious case of dive fever.

A great place to learn to dive! I went to Havelock to do my Advanced Open Water licence and couldn’t have chosen a better place. The instructors at Barefoot are knowledgeable, professional, and simply the best people you could ask for – funny and super friendly. The resort itself is beautifully located with its own private beach access, and I felt at home here very quickly. I can only recommend this place to anyone looking for accommodation on Havelock or planning to learn diving.

A huge thank you to Ravi and the Barefoot Scuba team for not only great diving, but also for putting on a big lobster dinner party for my birthday. The dive center itself is beautiful, tucked away among the palm trees just a short distance from the shore. The staff were always more than helpful carrying and setting up gear. Although the weather prevented diving at some sites further away, the sites chosen were beautiful with a variety of fish and nudibranchs. Thanks to everybody for a wonderful time diving on Havelock Island!
