Barker-Ewing Whitewater

The trip was incredible. Jen did a great job as our guide. He was so knowledgeable not only about the area but the history of the Tetons and Wyoming. We really enjoyed learning about it all. And the views are just indescribable. Look forward to coming back! We also got to see 2 different Eagle moments, a moose and a mule deer.

Beautiful tours from capable and knowledgeable guides that are interested in the individual guests. We went on a scenic ride in the morning with Dan where we saw the gorgeous Tetons. Johnny the bus driver was efficient and fun as well. In the afternoon we were driven by Christy through gorgeous mountains with just a bit of traffic. We were then led by Kevin on a thrilling ride through the rapids. I always felt that I was safe in the hands of the guides, but they were also very friendly and talkative. Overall a fantastic experience for any visitor to the Jackson Hole region.

This outfit is the best! They really do care for your safety and they want you to have maximum fun! Everybody from Janelle in the office to Johnny the bus driver to Temple the river guide - top notch folks! Will definitely use again and highly recommend!

We went on the 8-mile whitewater trip with our guide, Will. It was a great trip and Will was super cool. Will was an equal opportunity guide meaning, you all will get wet! Definitely a must while in Jackson.

We thoroughly checked out all the white water rafting Outfitters and decided to go with Barker-Ewing. We were not disappointed at all. Great crew. Nice facilities. Knowledgeable staff. Kegan and Alex were the best guides. We will definitely be back. Thank you all for the great experience.

Beautiful experience made along the river. It was possible to see not only a beautiful landscape but also many animals such as eagles, pelicans, ducks, but also elk along the shore. The guides were available for any questions. The persononal was very competent and available. The price was adequate. I recommend taking a boat ride in the morning as there are few people and it is easier to spot the animals.

We had a great time on the Snake. Collin was our guide and did a great job of making it fun. Our son “rode the bull” on some of the rapids. Daredevils in your bunch need to do that!

Our rafting experience with Zack in the beginning of June was amazing. The water was very cold in the beginning of the season so we were given the wet suits. We were very lucky because in our boat there was only 5 of us and Zack, the guide. He is an amazing person and experienced rafter. We will never forget his jokes and positive attitude. He is a really great asset to the company! Thank you for such an awesome vacation fun in Jackson, Wyoming.

My family and I had a great experience on Snake River! We did the 9 am rafting trip and it was a beautiful day on the river. The rapids were refreshing and only wished the trip lasted longer. Will was a greatest guide! He was very informative and even pointed out wildlife along the course of the trip. He is a very personable guy with a great sense of humor and made the trip enjoyable. The entire staff went above and beyond to make this a safe experience. Highly recommend a trip with Barker-Ewing!

Great trip overall. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Tom was our tour guide and did a fantastic job. He was informative and the boat held some great discussions throughout the trip, which makes it more enjoyable. I was imagining more rapids, but there was a lot more slow parts of the river. The big Kahuna was the one rapid that managed to get everyone except our guide wet. They were taking pictures there which you can purchase online or go to their shop and buy them for 20% off. We even thread the needle towards the end between a couple large rocks. It's worth doing a small 8 person boat. I'd even go in May or June to get more rapids because going at the beginning of August the water flow slows way down losing some of the rapids. They do offer water jackets you can put on under the life vest when you get there. The water was cool but not cold enough to need a wetsuit in August unless you can't handle cool temps. They do offer all that when you Check-in to rent too. If you have young kid, 4th grade or older they let them sit at the head of the boat. They have to be strong enough to hold on going over the rapids.

I don't know why it took me so long to write this review, but here it is! I enjoyed my time spent at Barker-Ewing Whitewater very much. I always have an itch to spend more time in nature and this was the perfect company to do it with. I went with the whole family, old and young. We all did the overnight visit. The guides were very hospitable and friendly. I had my grandmother on this trip and she did struggle on the trail to the camp, but the guides helped in any way they could to get her there safely and comfortably. The tent was fairly comfy (for what it was) and I was able to get some sleep. It's nature, so if you cannot handle it, it may not be for you. The whitewater part was fun and I didn't fall in, so I was happy. I would recommend this place to others, as it was a great time in nature!

Had such an incredible white water rafting trip with this company. First when we got there, we didn't have any water shoes so we asked them how much a rental would cost and to our surprise it was only $5 per item you wanted to rent! That's epic! Because at other whitewater rafting companies they charge and arm an a leg. Our raft guide Everett, the Viking looking guide! Hands down he is the best, if you can request him do it! I promise you his jokes are the best especially if you and your group have a great sense of humor. So glad we went for this company and had such an incredible time! Definitely suggest taking a tour with them and make sure you say hi to Everett if you get him as your guide. Tell him this review recommended you to request him.

Highly recommend. The team was very cool. Fun for both beginners and more expert white water rafters. They gave us free wet suits and it helped. Matt the bus driver was super friendly and our guide Will was the Bomb. He did a great introduction and guided us through the gnarly white waters of liquid snow. He was very accommodating as was the rest of the team. 5 star all the way.

We took our first float trip with this company in June 2021 and highly recommend this company. They were right on time for the trip and very organized. Very much safety conscious and the guide, Jed, was super nice and very knowledgeable. He pointed out things we never would have seen or noticed and provided some great history of the area. The views from the river are just amazing. We enjoyed every minute and will book again the next time we are there!

Wiggy was an awesome leader. The place was easy to find, had available wetsuits for $5 a piece to rent and was very customer friendly. LOVED the experience and would return to Barker-Ewing in the future!!! Two different photography companies take pics at a particular point in case you want to purchase pics (we did). Really fun. Next time will prob get small boat vs classic since this experience gave my kids confidence and a thrill!

This was my first experience whitewater rafting as an adult, I went as a child before (not in Jackson) but you don't get to paddle as a kid! First off, Jackson Hole is beautiful and whitewater rafting is a must if you visit in the summer. I know it can be difficult to choose but Barker Ewing is the best, you will not be disappointed. The entire experience from start to finish was so relaxed, we were worried about being late but they give plenty of time for guests to arrive and to give the safety instructions. Next stop, bus ride to the river itself, the bus driver was friendly and had some good jokes along the way. We arrived to the river and were advised we had Tom, as our guide. Let me tell you, Tom is the best guide that Barker Ewing has, he made the entire experience enjoyable and we all felt very safe and he had some great dad jokes along the river. To end a high note, this was a great experience, great price (they let us rent suits/shoes for free), the only thing I would change is that I wanted to go a little bit longer on the river! The route we chose was a level 3 and it was 8 miles long (perfect combo for laughter and excitement without being scared as a first timer), I could've went at least 15 miles with Tom as our guide!

When we arrived for our whitewater rafting trip we were told our reservations had been cancelled and they were booked and couldn't fit us in. We were discouraged as this is our last day here. We left and received a call from Adam fitting us into a cancelled spot later that morning. We had a great experience and our family loved the trip down the snake river with Zach. We appreciate Jeff staying with our belongings on the bus while we floated down the river! Thank you everyone at Barker Ewing! Fantastic morning!!

We just did a float trip, not the whitewater, but I absolutely would recommend this place. They went above and beyond to make sure every person was accommodated. You can meet at their shop or in two other places - basically, they make it super convenient to meet up for the trip. We had two folks that were going on our boat that took the wrong bus and got a bit turned around and everyone here did everything they could to make sure they got where they needed to go and were constantly checking in with us as we had to wait for them to find these folks. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly and did a great job guiding us on. Our bus driver shared all kinds of tips and made us feel really welcome. Basically, despite what could have been a hiccup, it felt like a seamless, smooth experience. From start to finish, everyone was kind, helpful and fun - what more could you ask for?

What a wonderful day on the Snake River! Though the morning started out overcast and slightly rainy, it didn't put a damper on our trip. Tim was a great guide on the peaceful float in the morning. The afternoon we had "Whitewater Jesus" (Will). A delightful white water guide who provided a very personal and safe trip. We were impressed by his great sense of humor and effort to know all our names! The staff in both offices we worked with were very warm and friendly. Highly recommend a trip with Barker-Ewing!

B-E can accommodate large groups and even small families. We went with a group of 30, and they divided us into two rafts. Our guide, Borg, was really great. He let us swim, played balancing games, and taught us to "ride the bull." (sit on the front of the boat) Even though we took the white water option, we were able to see eagles, otters, and an osprey. It was a great trip. The rapids are class 2 and 3. I had never been before, but it wasn't too scary.

Will give 4.5 stars. Loved working with Janet to arrange our float trip. She was caring and personable. Staff was very nice. Honestly, the float was kind of boring for our family. I guess it was too relaxing, lol and they wanted something more thrilling. Will have to do whitewater next time. Lunch was wonderful but they forgot my MIL's vegetarian sandwich. However there was enough food to fill her up. The picnic area is serene and clean. We were stuffed and we eat alot. I loved the thai broccoli salad and the fruit were yummy. Lemonade was a little weak. Thank you to the staff for being attentive and answering all the questions we had about wildlife and the area.

The day before our rafting trip we called to confirm the time we were leaving at. They informed us that despite us having paid for a smaller raft for our family of 5, we were going on a larger raft due to "COVID-19 procedures", which we understood but then they told us they would be adding another family to our raft since it was larger. This didn't make much sense to us, if we were changing things up due to COVID-19 why would we be put around another family that could increase our (and their) chances of exposure. Despite these complications, our float down the river was amazing! Tim, our guide was awesome and we were able to see otters, marmots, eagles and osprey. Definitely recommend this company as well as Tim specifically as a guide!

Great guys both in the shop and on the raft, Alex was our guide and did a great job. He made us all feel comfortable, as some of us were first time water-rafters. He remembered all 11 riders names (there were 2 families onboard) and was Super friendly, he was pretty cute too (all the guys were actually really good looking). My parents booked the trip, so we weren't really sure what to expect, but We will definitely refer the company to our friends in the future and may even come back for round 2 ourselves. Cheers!!

Great family experience in August! A perfect fist family attempt into whitewater rafting while the water was low the overall experience provided us with a first time whitewater experience. Knowledgeable team. Would do again earlier in the year! River temp was Also a bonus in August perfect expected temp if you try to time that sort of thing. Easy bus service easy parking.

Such a fun time. Went in August and the river was just perfect, not too scary and not so wild. Our guide was fantastic(wish I could remember his name though I know he was raised in Maui). It's a beautiful ride down the Snake River. They supply wet suits if you want them. I highly recommend using these folks as there are a few too chose from, but this one was really really good all around.

White water rafting that seemed well paced. Seemed a slow introduction to safety & rowing. However, when whitewater happens we were ready. We got the wet suits & were happy about that. The water is cold (we went in the spring). Sitting up front was great. I even got to sit in the back & spin us in circles! I wish I wrote down our guides name... He was just a summer worker while studying for a law degree. He knew all the comments & jokes with a quick wit to keep a group of strangers comfortable enough to work as a team. The smaller the raft- the rougher the rides so ask for what you want.

This was the first time most of the family had gone white water rafting. The crew made it fun from check in to check out. The guides were awesome. Fun and relaxed. Knowledgeable about the river. Everyone felt safe, and we had a trip we will never forget. We did the scenic tour and saw numerous bald eagles and beautiful views of the Tetons and snake river. The lunch was very good and we had some time to hang out before heading back to do the white water portion. That part was exciting. I think we laughed 90%+ of the time. Everyone from me to my 11 year old loved every minute. We will do it again. And only with this company.

Amazing family experience. Our guide was Merritt and he was fantastic. He was friendly, knowledgeable about the area and kept us all safe. The snack river is beautiful.

We had a fantastic experience with Barker Ewing. After mistakenly routing ourself to a different company, the owner of Barker Ewing was kind enough to drive us to the correct location. Our time on the river with Wiggy couldn't have been more fun or enjoyable and I highly recommend this company and our guide. Loved being able to book online and see all of the options.

Jackson has more whitewater rafting companies than it has mosquitoes. We only tried Barker-Ewing, so I can't compare it to the, well, raft of other possibilities. But I can say that Barker-Ewing did a great job with our trip, exactly what we hoped for and expected. Our guide, Danny, was both friendly and supremely competent. He engaged in the sort of guide patter that builds up excitement for rapids that are, in truth, pretty tame Class IIIs, but still lots of fun. He was skilled enough to make sure everyone got splashed a little without telling us that's what he was doing. The company offers a range of options - we did the "small boat" trip where everyone paddles, which seemed to me like a lot more fun than the "large boat" trip where some people sit in the middle and just ride it out.

This was a really good raft trip, about two hours. We had a few kids and adults in their 70s. Unbelievable scenery and the company employees were all nice and professional. Great experience with this company.

If you have a WYOMING BASED JEOPARDY or TRIVIAL PURSUIT game scheduled in the VERY NEAR future.... Then you're going to want to take a scenic white water trip with Barker Ewing, and REQUEST MICHAEL as your boat guide. This man, holy wow, was he knowledgeable in ALL THINGS WYOMING. AND I MEAN ALL THINGS. If you don't believe me, send me a Wyoming Trivia Question and I bet I'll be able to answer it! THANKS MICHAEL! Michael is definitely your live action WYOMING TRAVEL AND FUN FACT GUIDE. He was quite the motor mouth but in THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE! He never let there be more than a one minute moment of silence, yet eloquently and informatively filled our time with a wealth of knowledge while also steering our raft perfectly so as to not get us stuck, have any of us fall out, or even get splashed. Another amazing attribute about Michael is that he was VERY CONVERSATIONAL. He never was talking AT US, he was talking WITH US. Engaging, answering questions, discussing animal habitats, etc. talking DOWN at us as if we were stupid (which my party certainly WAS NOT) is NOT something Michael did and we appreciate him tremendously for that! Sure, scenic white water trips are full of exciting and scary rapids, but Michael made sure to excite our minds with loads of Wyoming knowledge, and we HIGHLY RECOMMEND you request him if you're planning a float trip!

We absolutely loved this tour! I would highly recommend - it was great fun. We did the morning rafting which included breakfast - it did not disappoint. The pancakes are fabulous! Will was our guide - and we couldn't have had a better time! He was informative, giving us info and pointing out Eagles and other wildlife, and also hilarious and so nice!

Oh my goodness, what's not to love? This place runs a tight-ship (or, should I say raft?!) From the time I made reservations, and still today, the customer service is over-the-top! Every step of this experience was perfect. The office is clean, well-ran and organized. The bus ride was fun - if that's possible (the driver, Jeff, was a great driver and was funny). The staff explained everything in great detail, so, even if you've never been whitewater rafting, you didn't have to sweat the details. My son and I chose to go whitewater rafting (he's thinking we should have gone for the float trip instead LOL). Max, our navigator, was fantastic! He shared his knowledge of the various birds we would see, pointed out wild life (judging by his personality, I think he's got a lot of experience with that one lol) and shared history of the area we were in, all with a great sense of humor (and an ornery grin). He made the 8 mile trip down the river FUN! The rafting part itself was GREAT! More rapids than I expected, which was a bonus. Very exhilarating (and a bit intense at times). I'd rafted in Colorado before, but found this experience to be far more superior. If we ever venture back to Wyoming, we'll definitely be visiting Barker-Ewing again!

We visited in late June when the waters were too high for our youngest son. Janet was flexible and accommodating to our family's needs and adjustments. She was patient with all our questions and an excellent communicator. Zack was our guide for the scenic lunch float. He was friendly, welcoming, informational and excellent with our kids. The food was yummy and the crew was competent and friendly. We are definitely going back to Barker-Ewing do the white water rapids next month.

Had a great time on the scenic float tour of the Snake River! We had a 4 year old with us who loved it. Next time we will do the white water since he will be 5 then! Elliot was an awesome guide and very knowledgable about the wildlife in the area. 5 stars well worth the trip!

We did the combo package of scenic float and water rafting. Both were great experiences. The lunch that was included in the scenic float was really good. Our guides Kevin and Fletch were very entertaining and knowledgeable about their surroundings. I would definitely recommend this trip and we would do it again.

Best whitewater rafting adventure !!! Took our three kids and they loved it. We did the early 8:00 am one. Our guide, Kyle, (pictured below because he took a selfie on my phone lol) was awesome. Funny, informative, and entertaining. We highly recommend this company.

Best money we spent our whole Yellowstone/Teton trip! We did the scenic float with Nick and the whitewater with Will. Both of them were super knowledgeable of the area, kept the rides fun and engaging, and always were conscious of our safety. The scenic float is definitely not an adrenaline rush, but it's an awesome way to see scenery and maybe even some wildlife. We saw 4 bald eagles on ours and a couple deer. The whitewater was amazing!!! I cannot say the enough. It was my first time whitewater rafting ever and you are a little nervous after hearing the safety speech but the ride was nothing but fun. Only 1 person fell off of our boat the whole trip and this was during the high water/fast flow season. I can not recommend Barker Ewing enough, the crew is all awesome and if we make it back to Jackson we're definitely doing this!! THANKS GUYS!

Very very Great trip overall. Will was our guide and very trustable and knowledgable. We hit several turbulences and saw 4 otters, Bald Eagles, and Osrey with the trout. We had a great time on the river, views, animals, and the rafting along the trip. It was part of the high-light in our trip to Grand Teton NP.

We did the 7 mile scenic float and I. An honestly say that they excelled at picking the most boring and then n scenic part of the river. My bad for not verifying the section of the river they were going on first. But they said Teton views, so I assumed it was a section we had done before. Total waste of money. You got a glimpse of the Tetons way in the opposite direction that you are going. Just a waste of time and money

Traveling with my 70 year old parents is tough work! My dad likes to cover everything ... and usually he's good about hitting up at least the top 5-10 items as recommended by Tripadvisor. Taking a rafting trip down Snake river was one of these activities when we were at the Grand Tetons and he booked us with Barker-Ewing. Ewing is the whitewater rafting side of the operation ... but we did a lazy river float. You will NOT get wet (unless it rains), you pretty much sit there, enjoy the view and take pictures. It's gorgeous and picturesque! You'll see lots of flyers for Barker Ewing and they have stands ... but the pick up location for the trip (after you've paid) is just a parking lot. Go to the parking lot and vans will come, check you in, pick you up and drive you to the drop off point. You float downriver back to where you parked. Don't look for a kiosk or a building ... wait in the parking lot. Bring water and bring snacks unless you are doing a breakfast tour or something. I would also recommend bringing more clothes than you need ... if you get warm, you can always take it off, but if you get cold, nothing you can do but ride out the 2 hour long float. Our guide was very nice and very friendly. The views are gorgeous. Because the raft spins and turns, there isn't a bad seat in the boat. I think it's great for an older or less active group and it's a unique way to see the sites.

Colin was an awesome guide. I'm pretty sure we went on one of the coldest days of the year but this company went above and beyond to make sure we were warm, Especially the Kids. We not only had so much fun but felt safe the whole Time and enjoyed Colin's dad jokes. :) would 100% recommend to anyone and can't wait to go again. Maybe On a warmer day!! Must do for sure when you visit Jackson!

We did the slow glide down the snake river with our guide Cody, and he was great. Explained things well, pointed out wildlife as he saw it, and was very polite and helpful as needed. No one got wet, and we were all really pleased with the experience. Would definitely do it again.

Go BERT! This was my first time rafting! We took the 8 mile white water trip and rafted through 3+ rapids! We were given the option of splash suits, I took it, but probably didn't need it. Our guide Kevin was awesome. He's guided raft tours for a couple of years now. After basic instructions (paddle forward, backward, etc, if you paddle you won't fall out, if you fall out, ride out the rapid and we'll throw you a tow rope, if you can't get back to the raft, don't panic and swim to the right side, the road is on the right side), we were off! The scenery was amazing! Kevin let us jump out of the boat and swim! What impressed me is the BERT guide's concern for safety on the river. Our boat and another BERT launched alongside a party of three other boats. One of the other boats got stuck in whirlpool and ejected three of the passengers. The other BERT boat pulled to the side and made sure they were ok before continuing down the river.

What a magical experience! I have been white water rafting numerous times and this was another amazing experience! Our guide, Dan, was so knowledgeable and witty and we loved every second of it! He made it fun and enjoyable and told us all about the river, the wildlife and myths around town. We saw many bald eagles and osprey and it was just amazing, can't say enough good things about this company and our guide, Dan. I hope my mom and I can come back in the future and get to experience it all over again. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is on Yelp trying to figure out which rafting company they want to go to. There are many companies out there and that is why I wanted to share my story so people can read it and choose this place so they can make as many fun memories that my mom and I made today. Highly recommend the whitewater trip with Barker-Ewing, went down the river on Saturday and had the best time! Our guide Josh was great and kept us entertained!

Our family of five had a great time rafting with Austin this June. He was very witty, informative, professional, and skilled. The trip was outstanding from start to finish.

This was such a fun family outing. We took the afternoon scenic with the Dutch oven dinner. We had ages ranging from the oldest 54 to the youngest 4. Since there were 8 of us, we had a raft to ourselves and our guide Rhone too! Although we did not see any moose on this trip, we did see many Bald Eagles, we even saw a Golden Eagle. We had such a relaxing time, Rhone even had my two grandsons (age 4 & 7) "help" him row/guide the raft. They had lots of questions and Rhone was so patient and answered them all. At the end of the trip we had a fabulous dinner. The staff was so attentive and nice. Truly they all really seem to love what they do and they were friendly and I would definitely recommend this as a family outing. If you're going to Jackson this is a don't miss outing

I had a great rafting trip down the Snake Rover with this company and their guide, Dean. He was very personable and funny and seemed pretty knowledgeable at the same time. He also freely admitted when he didn't know something about the natural history of the area. The trip itself was awesome. The canyon was beautiful. We had the chance to see some amazing wildlife, like bald eagles, osprey and a deer that was drinking at the water's edge. I really enjoyed being able to get in the water about halfway through the trip. This is a great raft experience for a beginner rafter with a very professional company.

Lunch float on the Snake with river guide Josh. Beautiful day, beautiful river. Easy float. These guys are pro's. Our guide was very knowledgable and pointed out a lot of stuff. We saw a bald eagles and deer. After about an hour float, we put in and had a picnic lunch buffet. Well done guys. I'm not into. White water, but I'd go with these guys again.

Really nice staff, well organized, fun day. Driver/lunch caterer-Art was very friendly. Both guides for float and white water rafting trip (Justin and Keegan) knowledgeable, friendly and enthusiastic . Keegan was an equal opportunity dunker making sure we all got wet. Also showed us the power of the eddy as he drove us to ride a wave at a stand still at one point. The float trip was nice but a little slow-lunch was very good. The white water was great. Perfect amount to of time

My family has been using this company every summer for 30 years; I've been going for about 6 years, and every whitewater trip is amazing. We had Zach this time and he was amazing and made the trip so much fun. I felt super safe but also tried some new things out of my comfort zone (which I loved). We will be back for many years to come and super grateful for the amazing memories!

I give this review 4-stars only for the mere fact that I wanted to hit more of the difficult areas of the river. Having said that this was a really good time. Mac, our guide was very knowledgable and made this trip fun. We saw areas of the snake river we would have never seen on our own accord. It was an 8-mile journey of fun! I'd recommend this to anyone who is visiting the area!
