"Barkowski, Santa Monica. A retro themed bar that pays homage to Charles Bukowski. Serving over 48 wines and 50 beers, your cup will never runneth empty - just how Bukowski would like it. With one of the best playlists in the city, it’ll keep you there for way too long as your favorite classic rock, punk, metal and alternative songs play one after the other. It also features Chuck's typewriter, pics and quotes. It’s like a dive bar sans the sticky floors, cigarette smoke and filth!"

It was an alright vibe, but Bukowski drank a ton of wine and they dont have anything but beer. Not a bad selection of beer though. It didn't really stand out as anything but a novelty. I'd go back, but only to pregame before walking to one if the proper bars a few doors down.

This bar had 3 different flavors of my favorite cider. The atmosphere is really nice. It's dark, friendly and they have a bunch of menus for you to order delivery. They pricing isn't bad and it's near the theatre. You can have a drink then go see a musical.

Fun bar, original, friendly staff, tastly aoju cocktails, no hard alcohol.

Google
Super fun place. Great beer selection, one of the few places I'll actually get cocktails too (I enjoy their specialization here!). The atmosphere is really fun and there is shuffle board! Also great random movies playing on a big projector. Not too loud either, which is nice.

Google
Great bar. Great selection of beer from bottles to tap. Awesome people and service, and they have BUMPER POOL! Love to come here after work. Plenty of parking out back, a rarity in Santa Monica. The staff is super friendly and the beer selection is great with many local brews. Relaxed environment with comfortable seating. Has a small town bar feeling, owners are great and like to get to know their customers. We personally had great customer service from the owner himself, I needed a bandaid from previous adventures, the owner actually had run out of them from his first aide kit so he went to store to not only refill his first aid kit but to grab me a band aid.

Google
Outstanding place. A dive bar that's clean, and welcoming. Great staff that's really friendly. Decent beer and wine selection. Atmosphere is always chill. TVs on both sides of the bar. Clientele, during the week, is also very friendly. Definitely one of my favorite spots on the west side.

Been coming here for 2+ years now. Place is decent at best. Won't name names, but I go over and tip exceptionally well to one female bartender cause she seemed nice, always there. Don't expect anything special. Being in service industry this place is always out of Marshmallow stout, every time. God forbid after tipping well every time you'd imagine a hook up or a beer at some point? Not here, after a couple years I let this place go, Brixton next door has better happy hour and knows how to keep their good customers happy! Sorry I had to leave this review, but it's true

Google
This is an outstanding local bar. The owner and bartenders are very friendly and the place is welcoming. Currently they just serve beer, wine and soju, but I understand that their liquor license is in the works. This definitely helps perk up this stretch of Pico in Santa Monica. Looking forward to many more happy hours here!

Yelp
I had so much fun here on Halloween weekend!! The bar is all you need, affordable and they include pear cider! The bartender was festive and nice!! I loved the karaoke and they have darts. I had so much fun singing with strangers all our favorite songs!! If you want a place to hang, chat, dance, and sing, or just play, this is the place :)

Yelp
This is a cool bar, it's really laid back and they have a lot of games to play around the bar with a karaoke on the projector. The bar tender was helpful in their drink selection. It's a pretty cool bar if you want to have a drink and play some games with friends. The have a good amount of cocktails and beers on tap.

Yelp
Super cute local Santa Monica bar!! Love the eclectic decor inside! Good happy hour (5-7 pm), except it was unclear to us which menu cocktails were on included. Either way, we enjoyed the select drinks! Wide range of draft beers as well.

Yelp
Loved their spooky decorations! The vibe is a little dark and trendy. They have music going on and they play random shows/ movies on their screen. Their drinks are great! However, their menu is out dated and the bar tender had to help us out in choosing a drink. Seems like the location is going through management exchange, but would be a good idea to update the menu list. Great location, easy to get to and from. Cool place for Halloween spooky spirit and drinks

Yelp
great Halloween vibe, not great DJ. decent drink prices in the well. FANTASTIC staff and decor. Very happy, overall for a Halloween night.

Yelp
This is such a fun bar! Came here with a friend on a Friday night to catch some drinks. We were pleasantly surprised by the whole venue. When you walk in, the place has a quirky vibe to it with multiple pictures of clowns, a huge skeleton and other interesting art that will quickly catch your eye. On one side of the place, there's multiple game options such as giant jenga, giant connect four, uno and other games. The bar area is a good size and the bartenders were amazing. They were super personable and quickly caught our attention to take our drink orders. Most of the menu is Soju based drinks which I found pretty interesting. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Small bar, intimate lighting, plenty of seating. Entrance looked a bit scary upon arrival. Artsy walls. Bar tender looked mean, but he was friendly. Drinks were delicious, a lot of drinks were made w/ Soju, I thought that was pretty different. They had a table with UNO, and a separate table with Large Jenga. They do not serve food, but you can purchase food and bring it in. Went to a creative gathering, it was definitely a unique experience. Will be back.

Yelp
Myles what a bar tender! Lovely spot. Great ambiance. This guy Made such a great experience for me and my friend. We are both officially locals because of the service. Super friendly... very "home-y"

Yelp
Very special place - it's an experience. I'd bring friends here but not necessarily come on my own ...

Yelp
THIS SPOT IS GOLDDDDDDD! I mean that. The drinks from the amazing bartender were STRONG and DELICIOUS! The vibes were hellla fun. It was busy but also not so busy that you couldn't get around. We visited on a Saturday evening and it was a blast. Definitely recommend parking in the back, Apple Maps sent us right to there lot and it was easy to park! (It's free parking - rare thing in LA)! Boyfriend got a Hazy IPA and I tried the Marg (10000/10) and Pain Killer (1000/10) Can't wait to come back! Cheers

Yelp
This is a great bar. There's parking behind it. They get food from Brixton's. It's also a great meeting place for book clubs and game clubs. I went to a book club here for mystery books. It was great. The service is good and you can't beat. I love the giant skeleton in the middle of the bar.

Yelp
Great bar - they had a singles event so we went next door - we came back around 11pm - great music - Wife and I had a blast

Yelp
Stopped over here briefly for a quick nightcap on a Friday. Interesting decor on the inside and not crowded at all considering the time of night. Solid beer and cocktail list at reasonable prices. Ordered a pint of the "A-Slo-Ha" by Slo Brewery ($6ish) - an incredibly juicy IPA that's crushable. Vibes inside are nice as there's a movie playing on the TV, no loud music, and some shuffleboard to the side. Bartender is chill and got our drinks out quickly. No issues with this spot at all, just an easy place for a quick/quiet drink.

Yelp
My husband and I LOVED this bar! Such a unique vibe and very cozy in the best way. We enjoyed playing all the game options and the goth poetry reading by Johnathan Santa Maria was divine!
google avatar

Louise L.

Yelp
This is a really fun bar to chat and get your game on. It's not too loud and not too dark. Definitely a place I like to bring friends to or just hang out by myself with the bartenders. Parking is a bonus in the back.

Yelp
Barkowski will always have a special place in my heart. This new iteration is just... okay to weird. I finally paid Weary Livers a visit on a Wednesday night after noticing the change in ownership/bar. They kept a lot of the games and decor from the previous bar, Barkowski. It's just a bit dimmer. The bartender was nice and checked in on me regularly. However, he had a kid with him (I assume his son?) even though it says at the door that no persons under 21 are allowed. That totally killed the vibe. As an LA native who loves Charles Bukowski and had great memories at Barkowski, I'm sad that his namesake bar is gone and replaced with just another bar.

Yelp
Really cute and spooky spot to grab a drink and app or small bite . Brixton is right next door , but honestly I prefer this place because of the spooky and very elegant decor and SHUFFLEBOARD . The service was friendly and genuine . They are just starting out so go show them some love and play some shuffleboard. Say hi to the skeleton upstairs too from a distance . :)

Yelp
Delicious drinks which are all great value for money and very smooth (love the soju mixes). We loved the frozen cocktail the most. There are fun games around like darts. Great vibes!

Yelp
Fairly new, lowkey bar. My partner saw it while driving and let me know we had to stop by because the name is perfect. Unfortunately we didn't get the name of our bartender but if I remember correctly they told us they've been open ~6 weeks. Interesting concept with basing their drinks with soju. They use a brand (not the green bottle type) that is made with a different method of distilling. I'm interested in what they'll come up with next. Interior of the bar itself is quite nice. Romantic lighting, paintings/portraits, and other various decor line the walls. They've also got a shuffleboard table and a few other games at the bar. Since they are newly opened it was pretty slow for a Saturday night but I'm okay with that what with the covid restrictions still in play. The only reason for the -1 star is the limited menu/stock that they have. They are trying something I've yet to see with soju-based cocktails but having a full bar doesn't hurt. I'll definitely be back in the near future to try some new drinks

Yelp
Weary Livers is a neat, eccentric bar on Pico that is adorn in a hodgepodge of cool and vintage decor and has a casual vibe for you to grab a drink, either during happy hours or not, and relax in a high top or limited lounge seating. There's also a shuffleboard as well. They serve wine and beer here as well as soju cocktails. Not sure if they will get a liquor license. There's also a limited food menu which they partner with the Gastropub next door to serve. An unique place worth a spot if you're looking for a chill watering hole.

Angela A.

Yelp
Friendly manager behind the bar. Good selection of beers and a yummy soju Piña collada on tap! Eclectic type decor of old photos & paintings.
google avatar

Yelp
First time at this beautifully designed bar! I had an amazing time! If you're a Harry Potter Fan or just love moody chandelier lit ambiance I highly recommend! Perfect for a quiet date night and or a small group gathering. (There's this velvet red couch seating area covered with vintage mirrors that's I'm in love with!) They have craft draft beer and a simple wine selection along with a rice vodka for cocktails. They have a food menu that's served from a neighboring restaurant. Pork belly sliders were delicious. Weary Livers opened in June of 2021. They're surviving on word of mouth! Once you visit, pass it on! Tell your friends!

Yelp
This place is a true GEM !! You'll walk in here and be like wtf is this but once you really look around and realize how oddly fucking cool this joint is you'll never stop coming. The owners are two friendly funny dudes that know how to make/pour a drink. If you don't go to weary livers you're a .... anyway literally the place to be !!!! Yea I know I have made little reviews but this was worth the time to make one!!!! Alright I'm done come through clowns.

Yelp
Great bar! Good beer selection and delicious (soju) cocktails.
google avatar

Yelp
Great new spot in Santa Monica! The Victorian style decor is amazing and the drinks are even better! A great selection of beer and wine as well as tasty soju cocktails. There's also a parking lot in the back! If you're ever on the west side looking for a chill night out this is your spot!
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place! Went two nights last week, cool vibe, very low-key. Bartenders are super nice and attentive. Shuffle board table and dart board make for great bar games. I'm usually just a beer drinker, but went for a Weary Grog cocktail too - tropical and delicious, tasted like a vacation in a glass! Definitely one of the best neighborhood bars in SM.
google avatar

Yelp
I've recently fell in LOOOOOVE with this place. Perfect location, perfect atmosphere, perfect staff. Especially Rene my favorite bartender, who's super friendly and fantastic host. This beautiful bar has the coolest style and addicting dart board game. And my new favorite THE SHOVEL BOARD.... Definitely a place to visit, stop by and have a drink. My go to drink is the pina COLADA.

Yelp
Thanks for responsively updating your hours! Previously commented that hours here we're not aligned with Google but owner updated right away.

Yelp
Great place to grab a cocktail and appetizers by next door@ The Brixton. Trendy place with friendly and great service.

Melissa T.

Yelp
My partner and I stopped in for a few minutes while waiting for our table next door. This bar puts an eclectic twist on a classic pub -- leather sofas and a shuffleboard table and a formal portrait of a bearded lady. Alongside the traditional wine/beer/spirits, they serve soju tiki cocktails, which were delicious and strong. The bartenders were friendly and efficient. The place was pretty empty at 8pm on a Friday, probably because it's so new (and because we're still coming out of lockdown). I'm sure it will quickly become popular; we certainly plan to go back.

Yelp
Great drinks and ambiance. Appreciated the good service. Glad my Husband and I stopped in. Great little hangout spot.

Yelp
Chill spot, generous pours. Interesting drinks. Atmosphere is fantastic. Bartender is friendly. One of the new best kept secrets of Santa Monica.

Yelp
Great local bar with tasty drinks and whimsical yet laid back atmosphere. So excited this place opened in the Pico neighborhood. Brian and John are the best! Plan to be a regular here.

Yelp
Love this place! Nothing like it in Santa Monica. Drinks are very tasty and the decor is super cute. This will be my Friday go to. We've been here twice since it has opened. It's a vibe

Tasita G.

Yelp
Bummer. Had high hopes but I sat and waited at the bar for 30 MINUTES and the bartender never took my order. In fact, he didn't greet or acknowledged me. Is this a local only or non-black serving bar I hear about all the time since moving to the westside? It kind of felt like discrimination, considering he tended to all of the white men sitting at the bar needs.
google avatar

Shannon B.

Yelp
Such an amazing bar!! They have an incredible indie vibe that invites you in the minute you step foot in the premise. They have super fun cocktail drinks they do themselves, we go the pain killer and it was amazing!! I highly recommend this bar
google avatar

Vanessa S.

Yelp
The atmosphere was steam pump meats retired circus but in an inviting way. Rene (I am writing this review two weeks later I hope that is his name) the bartender was so personable and helpful that though there was table seating I ate the bar! The food!!!!!!!! Did not expect something so delicious and creative to come from behind a hidden door of a bar! I got the nachos and the chicken sandwiches both were devoured. I can't wait to visit again!
google avatar

Yelp
Pros: great ambiance, lighting and decor. Romantic, cozy and edgy. Small offering of food from the neighboring restaurant. Cons: drink selection is very minimal. The soju theme is cool, but I really craved a stronger drink. If they added more spirits to their offering I would go back, but soju alone won't bring me back.

Brent L.

Yelp
Weary Livers has an eclectic interior that pays homage to its original theme by using humor, alternative music, and quirky vintage movies as their central topics of conversation. The crystal chandeliers give the interior a cool antiquated vibe which contrasts well with the local beers. They also have soju. What other bars in SM can you go to to hang out, have a laugh and drink soju? Take a dive into this bar if you're looking for a break from that stupid software sales job you're working.
google avatar

April C.

Yelp
Loves this place . The diversity of the people is great . They are friendly to everyone . The soju drinks are to die for . It is a modern tiki, goth,Victorian vibe . The vibe is just amazing and a lot of cool art to take pictures in . Anyhow will check it out again .

Josh S.

Yelp
I just drove over to get a drink. Weary Livers to be closed. No signs. No nothing. Is it closed Wednesdays? This week? Forever? Unclear.

Jon C.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I stumbled into the place while on vacation and it quickly became the highlight of the trip. The drinks are masterfully crafted and delicious (my favorite being the Weary Grog). I can't speak for the wines, but the beer options are great as well! The prize lies in the soju. An underutilized, delicious ingredient, that shines in the drinks served at Weary Livers. If you're anywhere near Weary Livers, it's worth paying a visit. I wish them nothing but the best at the Weary Livers. I can't wait to move out there and become a regular.
google avatar

Lyle J.

Yelp
We aren't from the area and wanted a place to have a beer after a show. Walked by this place was drawn in by the decor! The drinks are also pretty dang great! Highly recommend for locals and travelers!
google avatar

Iván G.

Yelp
This place is awesome. Recently opened so still a low key spot not crowded. The ambiance is great the design and decoration is unique. Nothing else like this in Santa Monica. The staff is awesome. Hate to blow it up since it's still a hidden gem but this spot deserves the business! I recommend everyone to go. Great drinks and great food. 10 stars is possible.
google avatar

Carolyn K.

Yelp
A cool neighborhood little joint with great drinks and food! Brian the bartender is super chill and really cool. I dig it here! The last time I was here it was called Barkowski, but I am glad I checked it out! Thanks Brian & Co.
google avatar

Yelp
Magnetic atmosphere, great unique drinks! Lively crowd and is open late. Definitely will come back
google avatar

Yelp
Came here after dinner for some drinks and was not disappointed! I got the soju mule and it was the perfect drink for me. They also have June Shine if you like hard kombucha. Love the decor and vibes of this bar and the bartender Brian was so nice. Definitely recommend stopping by!

Yelp
Because l called earlier as soon as l arrived they open the door said come on in which is no cus at all just us at my birthday night. very cool
