Barley and Burger Smashed

This place is a gem! I’m kind of a burger snob but man do they have great smash burgers and their fries are amazing too! The way their sweet potato fries are seasoned and the sauce they’re served with are perfect! The inside vibe is pretty bare bones but I’ve dined in and it was fine. Love love love their food!

My fries were burnt to a crisp. Fine whatever I wanted the burger. The burger had an off taste to it, not sure if it was the sauce (B&B) or what but I couldn’t even eat it. Disappointed since it seemed like a nice new local spot.

So burger was decent, not the best ever but definitely a solid burger. The sweet potato fries were burned to hell, like I’d feel bad serving it to someone if it was me….the inside of this place was dirty and (2) employees inside didn’t seem to care too much about it or my fries for that matter. Probably won’t be back, the burger isn’t enough to overlook the other issues.

I got a gluten free all-american burger and it was amazing. I was shocked at how big the gf bun was. The burger was lovely and filling. It was so worth the price, and the meal was under $20, which is very affordable. I was really glad that I took a chance at this place while traveling.

The burgers and chicken tenders were cooked fresh and the service was friendly. Easily the best burgers in the area!

Excellent food! Excellent customer service! I can’t say enough about this place. The food is superb! Hot, fresh, seasoned just right, great portions. You get what you pay for. I hope this stays around for along time. Q was the cook the day we went in. Excellent young man! Friendly and really spoke highly of the business. The young lady who took our order was extremely friendly as well.

Only my second time here and I will not be back. I had built my own hamburger with no cheese, just pickles and crispy onions, to go. When it came out, it had cheese on it so I went back to have them re make it. When I got my new order, I looked in it and it had Mayo with some crispy onions… so we had to go back in and have them re make it a second time. Third time the burger came out, they gave me my correct toppings (pickles and crispy onions) but did not give me a new patty since you can see in the photo here with mayo on it from the previous mistake. As in I wouldn’t notice the mayo on the same burger? Quiet rude and extreme laziness on the workers part.

Do NOT let the outside of this place fool you. It looks like an old abandoned restaurant, and inside it's pretty plain. Nothing special just a few tables and the movie pictures of which the burgers are named. However, once you take your first bite into this piece of Heaven, you'll be slapping the roof of your mouth with your tongue ready for the next bite. I am a burger critic and lover and this by far is in my top 5 of ALL time. They may be some of the best in Eastern NC! I was so excited I forgot to take a picture! Service was not bad, the lady wasn't mean but overly friendly.

I had no idea this burger joint was in Smithfield. We got done walking at the Smithfield park and decided to get some food. I got the truffle shuffle burger. It has Caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, Swiss cheese, truffle aioli. I had a side of the aioli, it was a bit sweet for my taste. I got the sweet potato waffle fries with it. My kids loved them. Too much sugar and cinnamon for my taste. I also had a side of onion rings. The onion rings tasted freshly made -best ones I've had in a while! Fries were good reminded me of Wendy's fries. My husband got their salad with the burger patty as his meat option. The salad looked amazing I wish I took a picture of it. His meat came on the side and the dressing came in packets. The service was good and the food came out fast. The ambiance of the place reminded me of an old Taco Bell. I did not care for it. I did like how they had tables outside. I would definitely recommend this place to others now that I know it exists!

Expensive cheeks--$37 for two burgers and two drinks with a side of hard, cold fries. We waited 30 mins to get our food just for an underwhelming burger. While the burger flavors were good, the toppings were almost nonexistent, especially considering the price. Also it's dirty inside.

Seen the reviews and decided to give'm a try. Yeah, nope! The staff was nice enough.. little to no communication. (I'm straight with it) We were the only ppl in the spot. Ordered 2 burgers, a chicken sandwich, 1 fry and, 2 onion rings, plus pretzels. This took over 25mins. I mean, I am all down to wait for good food.. but yeah, NOPE! It's too pricey for the for the quality they served us! (LACKING)... We WILL spend $$ on good food, good it was not. So disappointing.

The choices looked good.Don't like medium burger but they said they could do medium rare (didn't). The patties were fresh but wish I could get a single and the bun was nice and soft. The onion rings, although plentiful were tough- overfried. The worst thing was how long we had to wait for the food- very slow service. Don't know if they were short staffed but definitely waited a while for our food. Just black tables with some condiments - no one coming to clean them off.

We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door. The lady that took our order at the counter was super nice and helpful. Atmosphere was simple and clean. They have cute art up of the Goonies, Marty McFly etc. (they have named the burgers after movie references). They also have a nice outdoor seating area at the front of you have a pup with you. We got the Maverick burger and shared. The edges of the smash burger were crispy but it wasn't dry. It was juicy and flavored very well, not over salty. The sweet potato fries were fresh and cooked to perfection, they weren't undercooked or greasy, but that maple aioli that comes with is *chefs kiss! When we pass through Smithfield we will definitely be coming back.

A Must-Try in Smithfield, NC! I recently visited this place with a couple of coworkers, and it turned out to be even better than I expected. I decided to keep it simple and ordered the All-American Burger and fries--comfort food at its finest. What really stood out to me is that their burgers are named after 80s movies and shows, which adds a fun twist to the menu. Now I have a reason to go back and try more! Next on my list is the Maverick--loaded with garlic aioli, A-1 sauce, American cheese, and crispy onion straws. That sounds like the perfect burger for my taste. Another big plus was the friendly staff. And, let me tell you, they give you more fries than I've ever gotten anywhere! I finished my burger and was still working on those fries, which never happens for me. They were absolutely delicious! If you find yourself in Smithfield, NC, I highly recommend giving this spot a try. You won't be disappointed!

Stopped in for lunch today and the service was fantastic. The person at the counter was super friendly and very helpful. The whole restaurant atmosphere was very 80s/90s these which was really cool to see. I got the Marty McFly burger with tots and an all beef hotdog. My brother got the pretzel bites to try. Everything we had was SUPER flavorful and cooked perfectly. The tots were crispy outside soft inside and the burger was just awesome. Will absolutely be going back next time I'm in Johnston County! Stopped by Barley and Burger on Saturday a little after 7pm there was a line that moved along quickly. We were greeted and welcomed by Kristie when we placed our order one All American with Cheese and tater tots a Truffle Shuffle with onion rings. Food was served fresh and hot and tasted great, staff was friendly and responsive and the restaurant was clean. If you are in the area looking for a burger I recommend that you stop here!

Date 7-10-24 I went in and ordered the All American Burger and I was not Disappointed. The Burger was fresh sweet potato fries were just right not too much brown sugar. Josh the manager is the greatest he made sure the toppings were added and the food was hot. The time was 6:03 Pm. Excuse me for not knowing or Remembering the Cook Guy who made this special burger but he Rock That Thang. You Guys Keep up the Great Work. Also, the young lady at the counter was great to work with as well, all around Great Service Team. KW

Their food is great, even if a bit pricey. However if you get there anywhere in the near 45 min of closing, all you'll hear is fussing. We went a few nights ago, got our food within time to eat but the cook was fussing the whole time because he wanted to leave. They locked the doors while a customer was coming in and they still had 15 minutes. ‍

I saw a sign on the highway for this restaurant and was in the mood for a good burger so I figured I would give it a try. I got a double Smashburger with cheese was very good quality and cooked perfectly. The bun was definitely higher quality as well. I don't know what kind of bun it was, but it was not a normal bun from most hamburger places. Only improvement I would make would be the fries. They were good but the burger far overshadowed the fries.

Food is great, amazing even. Their fries are always so perfect and the burgers are great. I also love the customer service. First time my partner and I went in the person taking our order didn't recognize us and asked if we were new to town. With us being in the process of buying a home in the area, it was nice to see that the people who work there pay attention to their customers.

Overpriced the porción was not enough for what I paid it wasn't even worth it the only good thing I got from the spot was the staff they were really nice

They moved locations and we were back in town and had to try it again. Once again, they did not disappoint. The staff were wonderful, very friendly and helpful. Food came out quickly, and it was hot. You must get the burgers with the grilled and crispy onions, it really adds to the burger. We will definitely be back!

Ordered a burger here and it was delicious! I think it was the Rocky Balboa that was ordered. Cheese, pickles, and a house made sauce. They burger was delicious. It was cooked perfectly, a nice char on the burger. The buns toasted. Very very good burger. The fries could have been slightly crisper but that is personal preference, they were still very good. The employees were very kind even though they were pretty busy. Talked with us while we worked through what we wanted to order. I definitely would like to go back and try some of the other burgers on their menu.

Can you say cookout? No big deal just an ordinary cheeseburger joint. Fast food on steroids! Typical Johnston County burgers and fries! Fries and burgers! Just the same old everywhere here! At some point that becomes unhealthy eating!

Unfortunately our second visit was a train wreck. After paying $60 for 3 people to eat, our food took forever. The people who can in after us had their food before we got ours. Once we got our food the fries were cold. Then we noticed one burger had come with cheese which we asked for none bc of an allergy. So we had to wait for that one to be remade. Then one of the other burgers didn't have the toppings listed on the menu, it was just meat cheese bun. All in all, it was a very disappointing experience ESPECIALLY for the price. We won't be coming back

Ordered takeout, I saw my order on the POS readout and they even read my order back to me and STILL got it wrong. Food was not great. Burger was meh. Super salty boneless wings, only had one, no one else wanted them either. Fries were disappointing as well. It was expensive and most of the food got tossed in the bin.

I stopped by accident. The service was great and food was awesome. I was greeted very pleasantly by cashier and server Nisha! (Please forgive me if I spelled it wrong.) The meal came out fast, hot and fresh. My only recommendation to management is make the sign a little more viewable and standout on the road. Great place to eat and highly recommend.

I'm not sure where this place is. We never found it. It sounded good and we were set on eating here. Yelp said it was open. We got to where it was but never found it. No review on food!

Super yummy burgers and always friendly staff, my only pain point was how expensive it was for a couple to eat. Besides that, great experience!

Came to the new food hall and couldn't decide what to eat because there are so many options. Played it safe and went with the burger place. I'm from New Jersey & up there you could never go wrong with a smash burger! My husband and I ordered the "all American " burger and we added bacon & order of fries. The burger was made to order, perfectly cooked & fresh. They give a lot of fries, honestly one order of fries is enough for two people. The price for my meal was about $15. The quality is worth it! Definitely recommend!

Best burger joint we have been to in a long time! They offer veggie and turkey burgers (that are not listed on the menu). The staff were exceptionally kind and friendly. A staff member came out asked how the food was. Portion size well more than what we normally eat, very filling, Very tasty, French fries were very crispy and the house chips with ranch, so delicious. If I could give it 10 stars I would. From the outside you might think you shouldn't stop there. But when you walk in the atmosphere is amazing and the food is delicious!

I went to the Old North State Food Hall in Selma, NC and saw BBS as a vendor there. The menu looked great and I had heard from people that the food was excellent. So I ordered the Ricky Bobby and my wife got the Truffle Burger. The staff was jovial and acted like they were family. My wife asked for her burger cooked medium instead of well and they cooked it perfectly. When she went back to get a to-go box, the guy that cooked it actually asked how he did. She said it was great. They Ricky Bobby was very warm and the ingredients cooked perfectly. Lots of meat with a little bit of heat! Just the way I like it! The fries were just as good and the portion size was generous. With the service and food choices, I'll definitely be back!! Great job BBS!

Pretty tasty burger and fries. I was disappointed when it took 18 minutes (on a slow day) from order until it was ready. If you're not in a hurry and are ok with $14+ for a burger and fries, Barley and Burger is your place.

Not as good as when they were located at the food hall. Not the same quality which is sad. You would think getting your own brick and motar you would want your success to continue. Burger wasn't smashed at all. There was not that nice crispy texture like a smash burger should be. Waffles fries were not cooked fresh like they were cooked way ahead of time and like it has been sitting under a lamp. Not sure if I will come back.

I've been craving a good smash burger for a while now and stumbled upon this gem inside of the Old North State Food Hall while traveling to Orlando to meet the family at Disney. My wife had the truffle shuffle and I had the Rocky Balboa. Both were amazing! The burgers were incredibly juicy with a super-flavorful crispy exterior. The toppings were creative and delicious! Dovina cooked them perfectly and took great care of us. She was super-cool and made great suggestions. She is a great asset and deserves a raise!!! Fantastic fries and - pickle fries (whoever came up with this idea is a genius!) rounded out one of my favorite meals in a long time. This will be a regular stop for us from now on when we are on 95! (And here is proof: right now we are sitting in the parking lot waiting for the place to open so we can have lunch on the way home!)

Just left this gem after a day of shopping in New Bern, Greenville, and the outlets. Baaaaaby, when I tellllll y'all that my burger, chicken tenders, and fries were all "bussin"!!! Now our chicken cheesesteak was a bit salty, frugal on the filling, and overwhelmingly flavored so the chicken got lost. Might have to throw a leftover tender on to balance it out. But otherwise, this place was a hit! And the staff were super friendly yet professional. Top notch . And the chef's kiss was easily the perfect 100 inspection score. Definitely coming back when we're in the area again.

We were looking a great burger. We found Barley and Burger and it was delicious! Very clean, nice clean staff and a great burger and fries! Stop in! It's worth it!

Been wanting to try this place since I missed them at their first location. This is by far the best burger you'll find in Selma. Great sides and crisp sodas. The service is top notch and the music selection is on point. A must try if you're driving by.

This place is just off of the interstate and is accompanied by several other restaurants in the same food hall. My family and I have never been here before, but wanted to try it on our way through. All I can say is that it's worth the stop. My daughter and I ate here. She got the Ricky Bobby with fries and I got the all American with pretzel bites. My burger was great, but Ricky Bobby was awesome. I usually prefer a burger, but when I come back I'll be getting the Ricky Bobby. My wife got a gourmet hotdog and really enjoyed it also. If your hungry this stop has options and everything we tried was great.

Great burger! The pickle fries, not so much; get the waffle fries... they were amazing...

Both the burgers and French fries were so overly drenched with salt that it made the items completely inedible. I cannot imagine that is not a health code violation, serving poison. After the second smaller bite, both meals went right into the garbage. Has to make you wonder when a restaurant feels the need to go so overboard with salt, what are they hiding? The burgers most resemble Hardee's. Not sure if moist or incredibly greasy. If you are seriously deficient in salt or looking to kill yourself, B&B Smashed is your friend. They will do the job.
