Looking for somewhere to eat on our way though and found this awesome little restaurant and we weren't disappointed! Russ was excellent to us and gave us menu suggestions which turned out great. I had the Wasabi Fish Tacos and my wife had the Fish Sandwich with pesto and both were really good, fish cooked properly with a nice crispy coating. It was quiet when we were there but I suspect this place gets hopping.

I ordered the fish and chips and while the fish was great, the garlic fries seemed like they had been sitting a little bit before they were served to me. The slaw was just shredded vegetables, no mayo or seasoning in them and honestly, it was not what I’d expect from a restaurant charging 25 dollars for a plate of fish and chips. My girlfriend ordered the beet and goat cheese sandwich and I must say it was super unique and delicious! It seems like they cater to healthier cooking options which is awesome, but a little bit of avocado mayonnaise and salt in the slaw really wouldn’t hurt. And 6 dollars for an add-on fry is really a little steep, even in the year 2025.

First time here and came at noon, and it was packed, but still, some outside seating available. It was a day before the 4th of July and it's a tourist town. I ordered the 8 ounce house burger 🍔 and it was packed with tomato, lettuce onions, and crunchy pickles on a grilled toasted bun. Very juicy a filling. I should have ordered the 6 ounce (also, they have a 4ounce also. And a locally brewed lager. Overall, it was good , and the restroom was clean.

It's not easy to eat delicious food in a small town, but I got it. Although I waited for a long time, it was worth it because the boss was really busy and had to do a lot of things. I think it might not be easy to recruit employees in a small town, so it's understandable.

Had steamers and the fish tacos. Food was carefully prepared with quality ingredients and presentation but the flavors weren't quite balanced. Steamers broth was a bit too bright without enough umame and the tacos were a bit dry and in need of more sauce and the wasabi too intense for the rest of the flavors. Recommended the Arch Rock beer which was A+. Bill was over 50 bucks which would be worth it if well executed next time.

This was my first time there. I tried the clam chowder and the seafood tacos (I forget the real name of them). The clam chowder was pretty good...very rich and creamy, with many tiny clam pieces (but there was a lot of sand in some of those), and too many potatoes imo. The cream base was bland until I added salt and pepper, but then I enjoyed it. I would give it a 3.5 out of 5 score (given others I have tried on the coast). The seafood tacos were quite filling. I liked the shells and there was a lot of seafood and lettuce in each. My complaint again would be that they were bland and it felt like they were missing something...maybe avocado? Maybe bacon? Maybe cilantro lime crema? Idk. But I honestly wished I had ordered something different instead, especially since they are not cheap. And I loved my beer. The bill was around $50. So be prepared to spend a pretty penny if you get more than one item. I probably won't be back (I am not a local), but it sounds like they won't be open for the next 4 months anyhow...working on a remodel.

Google
Passing through town and stopped here for lunch. Got a soup and salad combo, and let me tell you, it was perfect. Chowder was perfectly seasoned, and their croutons are delicious. Any restaurant that can nail the basics, I am a fan of. Hope to come back again one day.

Google
Best fish and chips yet. Wasabi tacos were the perfect balance of amazing fish with a kick. Love the vibe here, service was fantastic. We want to come back and do everything on the menu!

Yelp
Probably not a typical experience. They mentioned they were closing for a remodel in the coming weeks so things may not be the norm. Even though they had a big display of beer tap handles....they seemed to have a very narrow selection of brews when we visited today. My bride ordered the "Fish and Chips" ($26) - which was grilled Cod. She was not partiularly pleased with her selection saying the fish was not flaky (but more chewy). I went with the Wasabi Fish Tacos ($24) - also grilled, and they were good. We thought the place seemed a little on the expensive side, but loved the vibe/atmosphere and would come back again!

Yelp
We were driving through and decided to spend the night in Gold Beach, Oregon. It's a small town with limited food options that were open when we arrived. This place had a wait when we arrived because they are short staffed (who isn't these days). The business is veteran owned and they were extremely kind and added us to the list knowing we will be seated around closing time. The tuna melt blew me away! If we are ever in the area, I will be returning for this! The fish and chips were light, flaky, crunch and delicious as well. A tiny more salt and this would be the ideal receipe! I throughly enjoyed the side salad as well. It had a hint of bitterness (in thinking from the finely chopped kale) and the vinegar made it so I didn't need to add the ranch dressing. It was perfect! I would skip the garlic fries. We sat outdoors on their cute patio type enclosure. It was a little chilly but we had our sweaters! Overall, great stop and I felt good supporting a local small business as well!

Yelp
A nice little spot for some good seafood! The pale ale he had on draft was delicious! Fish and chips were delicious and a big portion. The wasabi fish tacos were a different take but done very well!! Sweet potatoes fries had me craving a second basket. Cozy atmosphere with friendly staff and a good vibe. Worth the stop if you're looking for a quick bite while in town!

Yelp
I am updating my review to 4 stars after the owner made contact and offered to make our issues right. That goes a long way!

Yelp
This looks cute when you enter, and the parking lot was full, which is usually a good sign. On entering, it's a small cosy space, with a very coastal feel and ambiance. All the tables are busy but there is only one server, and he is run off his feet. We eventually get a table. We order - i get crab cakes, husband gets a Monte Crisco, and some garlic herb fries to share. The garlic herb fries come first. There's Parmesan on the top. It's not melted Parmesan, and the garlic on the fries is raw, and there are a couple of particularly big chunks of it. Husband asked the server about it, and was told that how we serve them. The fries were hand cut, but not particularly hot, and we'd have preferred the garlic cooked, and the cheese melted. The crab cakes - they were ok, but average, i wouldn't rave about them, but I'd seen a review of someone highly enthusiastic about the coleslaw that comes with the crab cakes. I've never, NEVER had such disappointing coleslaw. Bland, finely sliced veg. Couldn't taste any flavouring or seasoning at all. I only ate it as i was starving. He said his Monte Crisco was ok, but it's nothing he would be dying to order again. They need more staff. It's a beach town, and surely they get a lot of tourists through here. There's a sign on the table, almost haranguing guest regarding pricing policies, and if they want to challenge him, he'll come and bring his spreadsheets and show you how you're wrong. He knows what it costs to run a business. I found that offputting. I came for dinner, not a lecture from the owner. Probably wouldn't return.

Yelp
We arrived in Gold Beach for a long holiday weekend around 7:00 pm. Looked at Yelp reviews and decided take out from Barnacle Bistro was it. No one answered the phone. There was a message indicating we could order online. Did that. Simple. Arrived and noticed a pick up window. Food was done at the time promised. We ordered 2 orders of the Wasabi fish tacos. They were huge and we could have shared one order of 2 large tacos. They were delicious and so worth the price. The interior of the restaurant was small and dated or should I say had coastal character? Good choice!

Yelp
ABSOLUTELY delicious. Small place, clean and bright. This kind of steamer clams with coconut milk and lime was SO SO SO good. Their focaccia bread was very good too. Service was great too! They may be understaffed so be patient! Worth the wait.

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch and had the fish and chips. The Alaskan Cod was flaky and delicious, the fries done to perfection and the slaw stole the show. If they have this, order this!

Yelp
Super busy on a Monday night after six, we were lucky to score a table on the patio, protected from the crazy wind. Our server was clearly overwhelmed but super friendly and kept up better than expected in the packed restaurant. I had bookmarked this place to try the polenta crab cakes, and so that is what I ordered. Along with a $8 well drink, probably a rum and coke it was not memorable. The crab cakes were two thin patties, a little squishy inside, but with a great flavor. I appreciate NO PANKO. The little pile of coleslaw was a welcome addition of fiber. I forgot to order cocktail sauce, as it is my preference over the standard tartar sauce served with the crab cakes. It took our server a very long while to come back with it, but it was super. My husband ordered the wasabi fish tacos. They were enormous, breaded fish filets in flour tortillas with greens and plentiful spicy wasabi mayo hiding underneath. He also had a pint of beer, not sure what. By the time he finished the first taco he was already dismantling the second one to just eat the insides. They were very filling. Well, although hubby got sick shortly after eating here, I do not blame the Barnacle Bistro. There were beer and french fries involved long before we visited. I would love to come back and try more of the menu, maybe at lunch or off time when not super busy.

Yelp
My favorite coastal restaurant for fish and chips!!! Always fresh and not greasy. Tonight had the Alaska cod and garlic fries. Delish! And the blueberry cheesecake. Great atmosphere, super cute decor inside and very friendly helpful staff. Thank you!

Yelp
sweet lil spot right off the 101. was camping at humbug campground just 30 mins north and needed a spot to grab some grub. glad we came here. the fish and chips was cooked perfectly and we upgraded to garlic parm fries, yum! and we also split a tuna melt with the fluffiest bread i ever did have. really too good.but my friend complained it could have had more tuna lol. ofc had to have some clam chowder and that was perf. we also had beer, nice to wash it all down. had a view of the ocean while eating against the bar table. will surely come back again when i'm around the area!

Yelp
We came in on a Saturday around 3. We were seated right away there wasn't a wait. We ordered our drinks and then food. I ordered the chimichurri burger and my husband ordered the fish and chips with garlic fries. The burger was freshly made and delicious. The fish was fresh and tasty. The garlic fries are very good as well, highly recommend. Great service and great eats. We will be back. If you're looking for fish and chips in gold beach, this place won't disappoint!

Yelp
We'd been searching for a place in Gold Beach that wasn't serving the usual greasy, uninspired food--and we finally found it! This spot is a total gem: warm vibes, outstanding service, and food that's absolutely delicious and unique. We tried their fried fish, which is the most popular item on the menu, and the mussels in coconut sauce--both were a 10 out of 10! The flavors were fresh, vibrant, and unlike anything else in the area. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, but fair warning: it gets busy after 5 PM, so come a bit earlier to grab a table and enjoy the experience. Highly recommended if you're looking for something special in Gold Beach! We forgot to take a pic, food was amazing!

Yelp
I love the fish and garlic fries with coleslaw Great food service and great ambiance Thank you everybody ENJOY!

Yelp
Loved it. Both seating and service were prompt. The waiter was friendly and fun. Interior was attractive, but we sat outside. I had the Beet'N Goat Grilled Cheese. Roasted golden beets and goat cheese on grilled sourdough. I'd never heard or thought of such a thing, so I had to try it. Delicious. We tried to go back the next night, but at that moment in July they were closed on Sundays due to lack of staffing.

Yelp
Checked their menu online and it showed fish and chips for ~$17. Got to restaurant and menu price was $26 for 8oz fish and chips. Pretty mediocre looking place too. I've never been charged that much not even for halibut and chips. No mas for Gpld Beach

Yelp
My friend and I stopped by here on a weekday afternoon to grab some food for takeout. The restaurant was pretty empty when we arrived and only had one other patron sitting there. The restaurant itself was a bit grimy looking but they were decorating the window for Christmas. The waitress at the front was friendly and took our order quickly. After we paid, she gave us a beeper that let us know when our food was ready. We then went to picked it up from the take out window to the side of the restaurant. Our food came out pretty quickly and we split two entrees: CRAB CAKES: The crab cakes were quite disappointing. They were completely burnt and all it just tasted like blackened butter. The "slaw" to the side was also of poor quality. (1/5) FISH AND CHIPS: The fish quality was nice and it was well fried; however, it was pretty bland. The tartar sauce it was served with did help. The fries on the other hand were so heavily covered with garlic that the smell was overpowering. It caused our car to smell like garlic during our whole road trip that day. (3/5) All in all, an ok establishment. Their take out window concept was my favorite part.

Scott B.

Yelp
Great spot. Good beers and staff were great. We had crab cakes, curry mussels, and Brazil shrimp tacos. Tacos were good, crab cakes disappointing, curry mussels so damn good. Crab cakes didn't have a lot of flavor, but decent sized. The tacos is supposed to be a half pound but I'd like to see the scale... maybe not half pound. Still, they had nice flavor. Mussels really were exceptional. Just order those and a bit of extra bread, which is well cooked and prepared.

KQ L.

Yelp
This is a sweet little place with a few surprises on the regular-fare menu like the curry mussels. Yummy. My friend had the battered cod tacos and offered me a bite. They were darned good. The building had a tastefully weathered seaside charm with an outdoor patio as well as maybe ten tables inside. For now they serve beer & wine with a "cocktails coming soon" flyer on the table. I had a tasty lager on tap. We were seated right away and while a sign "we're hiring" for several job positions open, the food came reasonably fast. There was also a sign offering a 5% cash discount.
google avatar

Gab B.

Yelp
Interesting local place with friendly staff. We had a decadent cioppino with crab (and toasted focaccia for dipping), as well as, chunky clam chowder, battered fish sandwich with pesto and delicious sweet potato fries with a zesty aioli. Everything was amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant serves some of the best food in Gold Beach. It's definitely a locavore establishment, featuring local seafood and local produce. I'm going to lead with something you don't typically see in a review. The SALAD! All fresh local greens that were delicate and flavorful. You can NOT get this quality of greens in most stores. It was a true delight. The Fisherman's Melt, with Tillamook cheese and local albacore tuna and pesto served on a Rosemary Focacia that was pillowy soft on the inside and with bodaciously buttery, crispy goodness on the outside was outstanding. By the way, if you are visiting the Oregon Coast, a trip up to Tillamook Creamery is worth a side trip all by itself. The clam chowder was creamy and thick, and definitely appeared homemade because the potatoes were not of uniform size. If you are a fan of bacon, this chowder is for you. I'm more of a purist when it comes to clam chowder. I am not a fan of all that bacon and all that smoke. They offer a selection of Oregon Beer and Wine, along with ciders. I tried the loganberry cider and it was good; a nice combination of sweet and sour. Their garnish and plating game is also on point. Dishes look beautiful, fresh parsley sprinkled on the chowder and parsley and a nice lemon wedge on the Fishermen's melt. There is local ocean-themed art for sale here, too. Service was friendly and efficient, considering how packed this place always is. The only downside is sometimes there's a wait. And that's because it's so popular.

Brian L.

Yelp
I was expecting this to be good based on the reviews - it was just really bland. Service was good, but those Brazil tacos ? Tiny amount of meat and not very tasty.
google avatar

Pamela M.

Yelp
We found everything delicious here The fish has a very light crispy batter, and the Alaskan cod was delicious white fish You serve three pieces of cod with the fries. It was a good serving very filling. I had the crabcakes which are a served on a small plate but very good and made a meal for myself with a little of the clam chowder We will definitely return to Barnacle bistro on another day when we're in Gold Beach
google avatar

Diane D.

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch on our way north to Florence. Almost ordered the clams and fish & chips but made a last minute detour. Husband had the Barnacle Burger. I had the Chimichurri Burger. Had the choice of 6 or 4 oz patties and we opted for the 4 oz. Both were delicious--house made sesame buns and fresh hand-formed burgers. Side order of fresh hand-cut fries, yummy & plenty for 2-3 people. Friendly helpful server. Quick service. Good background music.

Wendy M.

Yelp
This was a sadly disappointing stop. We should've known when we were the only ones in the place, but it was a cold, and wet, and windy night and we were trusting the previous positive Yelp reviews which usually works out so well for us. The server was friendly and attentive, but the food was really disappointing. The fish was rubbery and even the fries were somehow bad. They seemed day old.
google avatar

Bob C.

Yelp
The food is very good.I had the clam chowder and Curry Cider mussel. Small selection of beer from the local Brewery(Arch Rock). Small venue locally own. great service and busy with Tourist and locals.
google avatar

Sriteja C.

Yelp
I respect the hustle here and the staff were very friendly! However, the black bean burger was very dry and came deconstructed although I never requested it to be served that way. This place seemed like it was great for fish n chips, but would not recommend this place for vegetarians.

Fiero F.

Yelp
Fish and chips is flavorful and not greasy. Coleslaw in a supporting is AMAZING! They add ginger

Sam G.

Yelp
Let's face it if you're in Gold Beach you are very limited in choices for dinner. This place is better than nothing but not by much. Everything was certainly edible and hope you want beer for dinner. Better idea would to keep driving to a larger town
google avatar

Shellie ..

Yelp
This is recommended to us via local. The wasabi fish tacos were amazing! We ordered those and the garlic fries (strong, fresh garlic!). We split them and it was enough for two people. Service was great. Food came out quickly. Wait staff was friendly and professional. We will definitely eat here again.
google avatar

Kyle W.

Yelp
I've had my fair share of fish and chips and I was craving some so I decided to check a new place out. Here, they do specialize in fish and chips and it's their best seller. A lot of reviews rave about how light the batter is, but unfortunately, the batter is quite thick and the fish cut is not as tender as I'd have hoped. Regardless, the overall food is delicious and we enjoyed primarily the garlic fries served as they use a loooot of garlic. Service is a bit slow but understandable as they're short staffed. Only one server was working and managing all the tables both indoors and outdoors, so I'd recommend this place only if you have a lot of time. We almost missed sunset because the food and the check took way too long, but this is something beyond the control of the restaurant for that given day.

Yelp
Headed to Grants Pass and needed to eat. Yelp had the answer! Fish and chips at Barnacle Bistro. They were due to close in 30 minutes. This restaurant is very unique with lots of character. Fun little counters at which to enjoy your meal as well as the tables. I was quickly greeted and confirmed that I could order to go. They offered a choice of garlic or regular fries. I'm not that fond of garlic. My drink was brought right away. While waiting, I went to wash my hands. The restroom was spectacularly clean and also a visual treat with interesting coastal decor and vintage material construction. The fish was the best I've ever consumed. So tender and juicy while the breading was crisp and light. It was so good, I ate it plain! No sauce, lemon or vinegar. A generous serving of French fries (chips) accompanied the delectable protein. Even the Dr. Pepper was good! Just enough ice, it almost served as dessert after the meal. I only get up this way about once a year for work, but now I know where to eat. Thanks Yelp!

Yelp
Amazing food and super friendly service! The fish tacos are out of this world, 2 is enough to fill you up. Everything we had was good and the service was o. point. Can't wait to return.

Vicki H.

Yelp
We ordered take out. We got 4 salads, 1 beet salad which they did not give us. $20.95. The green salads said they were local field greens. It came with romaine lettuce. The carrot was out of a bag already shredded. Garlic fries were terrible. Fish and chips were just ok. I have no idea what the Cole slaw was. It smelled like vomit. Clam chowder lacked potatoes and clams Please look up my review from 2023. WTH happened here. What a disappointment for $118, for my family from out of town. Save your yourself, go to the Port hole. Oh, we tried to call to tell them we didn't get our salad . No one answered the phone. Very disappointing.
google avatar

Jennifer K.

Yelp
Great fish and chips! Breading was very light and airy. Garlic fries were quite tasty too! Service was great!
google avatar

Jeano G. L.

Yelp
We love this restaurant the last couple of months we've been going there, but it doesn't open till 4PM although the website says it's open at 12 PM can't wait to go there again. I wish the website would reflect the time they open. We went to Hunter Creek that has great food too.
google avatar

Emily G.

Yelp
Service was AWFUL. the waitor was flirting with my under age friend and made us wait nearly an hour for one of his fellow employees to go to the store to get something for one of our meals. Restaurant is nice, the garlic fries tasted microwaved and no flavor. The big cheese sandwich was good.

T H.

Yelp
My brother had a burger and fries. Huge. My sister had a BLT. Great bread made the sandwich. I had grilled cheese with the same great bread. Provolone, goat cheese and beets. Delicious. Friendly service. Cute restaurant.
google avatar

Pavel S.

Yelp
Food did not meet expectation. Went there based on reviews but food was not so great; will not return next time we r in Gold Beach. Service was really good; 1 additional star for that.

Jeanne O.

Yelp
Great food. Cool little restaurant. The service was great too, despite being short staffed.

Enrica B.

Yelp
Friendly staff in busy spot. Fish and chips were bland and the flavors of the wasabi fish tacos did not blend well-I couldn't eat it. My son enjoyed his burger and sweet potato fries.
google avatar

Joe P.

Yelp
Rubber fish, day old fries. Stopped eating. This post needs 85 characters. Is this enough yet? Done.
google avatar

Dave G.

Yelp
They were very understaffed the day I went, one server for the whole restaurant, the help wanted sign outside was not for show! I had the fish n chips because another sign said it was the best in the area. The fish was okay but the chips were inedible, literally the scrapings from the bottom of the bowl., tiny broken, soggy, dark brown greasy pieces. Who in the world would serve something like this? The poor harried waitress looked as though she pitied me when she delivered it, even in her rush to take care of the entire restaurant . I didn't bother taking a picture like I usually do, left a nice tip and left hungry Too bad, I really wanted to like it
google avatar

Karli P.

Yelp
Wow. It was one of those places I wished I could eat again right when I when I was done. It was gourmet fish and chips and not lame stuff from tourist traps. I can't wait sit to drive us the 101 again.

Kim F.

Yelp
Little coastal roadside joint in Gold Beach that has a very casual atmosphere. It seemed a bit grimy, and there were more than a few flies, but that isn't uncommon in some of these coastal restaurants, and we aren't super fussy. It wasn't terribly busy when we arrived, but it did take a bit to be seated. Doesn't seem like anyone working here has a sense of urgency at all. Fortunately, we were not in a rush. We had the Curry Cider Mussels, Wasabi Fish Tacos and the Off Da' Hook Fish Sandwich. Everyone liked their meals. The Wasabi Fish Tacos packed a wallop of in-your-face wasabi (possibly too much, even for someone who loves wasabi). All in all, good dinner, good service and decent prices.
google avatar

Cynthia L.

Yelp
Cute little hole in the wall place right on the ocean. I ordered the crabcake polenta cakes. They were extremely thin, no flavor at all. I'm very disappointing as I love crabcakes! They were only $15.99 so I guess I can't complain. The service was very friendly and a very cheers like atmosphere. Maybe if I return I'll try something else!
google avatar

Becca M.

Yelp
The food is presented in a nice way and it's a warm meal. The service is good. Other than that - unfortunately we were disappointed with the flavors here. The chowder is mediocre at best with over cooked bits clams and lots of potato's. The ginger slaw sounds so promising but I think it ruined the meal. There were no other flavors to mellow the ginger out and it overpowered any other flavors happening in my tacos. There was a decent amount of shrimp and maybe 2 shredded scallops in there. For $30+ dollar meal, we were sorely disappointed.
google avatar

Nancy P.

Yelp
The food, service & ambience is top notch! Always pleasant menu surprises and we're never disappointed. Our go to place in Gold Beach. Try it, you'll love it!

Jeanette B.

Yelp
Friendly service. Fish n chips our choice. Fish lightly battered just right and not overcooked. Clam chowder good but tasted more like a potato soup and not strong in clam flavor. The place is small. Easy to drive past it as it is off main road.
