Google
This is a good bookstore. There's a Barnes & Noble Cafe serving Starbucks inside. The Starbucks app won't work here. But the B&N rewards program will. It is nice to browse and look for new books or magazine. The manga section is pretty neat.

Google
I really loved this place! It’s such a cozy and welcoming bookstore with a great selection of books, journals, and gifts.

Google
Review on the Cafe and book collection. This place is genius. I bring my vehicle in to have the tires changed and alignment and borders/Barnes is only a 10 minute walk away. Coffee is good, book selection and seating is vast. I can't complain. They have a decent selection of books to browse and a bunch of "trinket" style books to collect from. Ideally useless but for some reason really intriguing. For example I picked up a dollar origami book and a colorful periodic table book. Because why not. I think it is very important to have books and physical things in this digital age. Missing from digital is touch, taste, and smell. No point living life feeling only a small warm smooth screen. I want to feel textures and smell paper. And my eyes never tire when I see paper and colored pages. My eyes can tire staring at a super bright screen all day. Anyway. This is my autoshop's sitting room and ill be back as I bring my car for service. 5/5

Google
Great service. I order a pickup online and when to pick it up at this store. The full process was fast and smooth. I also walked around the store and they have a very big selection. This store has two floors with books, magazines, boardgames, legos, etc.

I am not an American. So the area felt a little sketchy compared to Stanford. But Barnes and Noble was great. Super selection and great murals on the walls of famous writers. The Starbucks was pretty good too.

I have been a member over 20 years and 10 members of the family get discounts using my phone # for hard bound books, calendars, posters, cards etc. One son has every Stephen King novel. Once a month the entire family enjoys going to Barnes and Noble.

Google
Had a lovely time doing my holiday shopping at this Barnes and Noble! When I needed help finding a book, the staff were kind and efficient giving me directions.

Cynthia Shrauner

Google
Plenty of parking, really kind and knowledgeable staff, and so many books! Great manga and young adult section, but also all the other top 100 books and classics. Also love the puzzles and candles and mugs and notebooks!

Yelp
Most shopping malls are mostly located in the suburbs. This particular mall will be closing in the future. This place has history and where Seabiscuit raced. This mall has the missing link of the chain stores missing in San Francisco which is a bookstore with lots of square footage. This is the biggest bookstore closest to San Francisco without crossing a bridge. The best part of this is bookstore is you can reading the books and inside at the Cafe is a hybrid Starbucks and Cheesecake Factory without the savory plates and 20 page menu. This place is also a mix of study hall, workspace ,and social gathering spot. The last of the best physical book store is at the Tanforan Mall at Barnes and Noble where you can enjoy a cup of coffee and a slice of cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory. A place with historical past and carries a new spirit since the days of Seabiscuit Before it's gone and then you will miss it and go to the Barnes and Noble at Tanforan Mall before it gets redevelop for a final visit

Yelp
Called them ahead of time to check on an item. They were nice and quick to check and hold the item for me. . When I arrived, they were quick go get my item on hold and let me purchase. I had a easy breeze pick up and go. . While I was there I needed to use the restroom which was downstairs. They were quick to unlock the bathroom for me. Also the bathroom is clean too. . The inside of the store is clean and organized. It was easy to spot the collections and look for items. . Overall if i need something from barns and noble this is my preferred location. Hope this helps and thanks for reading. Have a yelptastic day.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised to find a Barnes & Nobles still exists in Tanforan. The rest of the mall is very sad and dead but this Barnes & Nobles is the only store worth spending time in imo. I usually stick with shopping at my local indie bookstores, but I grew up hanging out at these larger bookstores and they are nostalgic. This Barnes & Nobles has vinyls for sale! It's fun seeing all the games, activity sets, and other knock knacks they sell. There is a lot more variety in every book category compared to the small indie bookstores I know. The store also had an incredible collection of stationary- both typical and high end notebooks from all over the world including Japan, Malaysia, Germany, France, and Finland.

Yelp
Barnes and Noble in the Tanforan Shopping Mall in San Bruno is a welcome, quiet respite for shopping in the area. There's also a small Starbucks in the back of the store. The staff's usually busy but quick to help you hunt down a particular book and are happy in placing a special order for you if needed. I usually come by for holiday shopping and to browse when waiting for a movie nearby. There's a free club that you can sign up for where it totals up what you spent and you can get a few dollars off on your next purchase. There's also a paid membership probably with more benefits but the free one works for me. Because it's in the Tanforan shopping mall, their future location is up in the air. But in speaking to a few staffers, sounds like B&N will try to stay close by. See you then!

Yelp
One of precious few DVD/record stores in the whole peninsula, on top of the value of bookstores in general.

Yelp
Absolutely love this Barnes and Nobles, especially since it not only has plentiful parking, but also 2 floors of books. My go-to bookstore for all my bookish needs. Giant sections for most categories, and they almost always have the books I want in stock. If they don't, they will happily help you order them online. If you need a specific book, employees will spend time looking through their stock and take you to the exact place it is on the shelf! Employees are attentive and very nice. Starbucks inside is very spacious. They also carry a good array of gifts and trinkets, as well as trading card games like Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Magic the Gathering. Can easily spend a few hours in here :) from experience...

Yelp
Today I wandered into my local Barnes and noble looking for a book for my best friend. I was struggling to find it so I went over to the front desk to ask for help and Raj was able to help me track it down. Unfortunately they didn't have it in store but he did see that hillsdale had a copy so he called them and waited EXTREMELY PATIENTLY for the associate in the other end to find the book and hold it for me. Overall it was a very pleasant experience and I really appreciated his customer service. Management team, please make sure to recognize him for his excellent customer service. Thanks again!

Yelp
It has been a long time, since I went into Barnes & Noble's; it was a pleasant surprise that the store has expanded the variety of merchandise they sell. I went into the store after seeing they had a jigsaw puzzle sale. It was great to see a good selection of puzzle, games and other thought provoking items. I will definitely be coming back to this store. The clerks were pleasant and helpful.

Yelp
This is a surprisingly nice Barnes & Noble given the sad state of the Tanforan shopping center. The store is one of the larger ones, and it is quite neat, organized and clean. The store is spacious and fun to browse for books, magazines, music, movies, games, toys, journals, planners, art supplies, and gifts. There is a cafe at the back, on the main level, with some seating. Otherwise there isn't any seating in the rest of the store if you wanted to sit and read. The Children's area is downstairs. You'll also find restrooms downstairs, at the back right corner of the store (to the right of the children's area). Water fountains are outside the restroom. And there is a diaper changing area in the large stall of the women's restroom. Books & magazines are in the main part of the store. They also have movies & music on the El Camino Real side of the store. Both sections are separated by a security tag sensor, because you need to pay for your movie/music purchases on that side of the store. I was a bit thrown off by this separation because I expected to find 2023 planners in the books/magazine side of the store, in the area near the other journals. This is where they are usually located at other stores. Nope, not at this store. They like to keep customers on their toes. The 2023 planners are tucked in a corner of the movie/music side of the store. Yelp
Wow. How many of these bookstores are left? I feel like I spotted Bigfoot when I turned the corner. Tons of books and magazines. Yes, some people still read - not all of America only has the attention span for a 15 second tic toc. Very clean and beautiful store. Not all that many people around but that goes for the whole Tanforan Mall. Its so strange.... this is prime location next to Bart and the airport and everything else you could imagine.... Seems like in general the area needs somebody to reinvent it. Maybe your in the market for a used car. I like to poke around in the Consumer reports magazines when I'm in a library or place like this. No, no... I don't believe you have to buy the 'best used car' off this list - but I do advise you to avoid the worst cars on the list. Take the new Toyota Corolla. Since the CVT recall on the hatchbacks that whole car became very questionable. Raise the sun visor and it makes a tin noise as it slams against the poorly insulated ceiling. Climate control annoying. Gas mileage poor compared to a Trailblazer or any hybrid. Maybe worst of all all these overstyled nooks and crannies on the dash for dust or RinksNaSweets hair to collect. I advise going for the Civic these days... the style of the Insight really beautiful especially since the new Accord looks like a beached whale.... Don't take my word for it all... come into this store pick up a book and read!

Yelp
The best customer service ever! They are always stocked and they help you find what you need if they do not have it in stock. You can also grab a coffee while you're there!

Yelp
Mr Eric is a superstar!!!! Great location. Came in looking for several copies of one book. Me Eric looked it up, ran and got copies for me (extremely appreciative)... They only had two copies, but better than none. Only suggestion for improvement is .. After waiting in line to pay for my little stack of books.... No bags. That was disappointing because limits my ability to continue shopping. All in all... Still very grateful for the great service and well stocked selections. A real treat. Thank you Mr Eric and last at register, Warm regards Sharine

Yelp
These paper straws suck. I tried 3 and still can't get a good taste. Besides that, customer service was alright. My drink had no flavor... Not even a little taste of mocha and it's suppose to be a mocha frap.. My whip looks like it's the last spray of whip in the can. I don't like to waste so I drank it even though I'm not happy with the flavor. By the way. After 15 mins of walking with my drink. The straw was so soggy I couldn't use it anymore.

Yelp
Absolutely love this Barnes and Nobles. This is a rare find, because it's huge. 2 levels, and most importantly, an entire section of manga. There's a Starbucks inside, and I usually just sit and wait for my girls to get their manga fill, before deciding what to buy. We can spend 2 hours here. The bookstore is very clean and organized. The staff if always friendly. Great place overall. My favorite Barnes and Nobles!

Yelp
This location hands down, has to have some of the most friendliest employees ready to assist you with your needs as a worker of the connecting mall Tanfran another shopping mall hanging on by a thread I find myself walking through Barnes & noble just to to start my shift off on the good foot so from the book service to the audio department and cafe at This is a location you can lose track of time easily because there's a lot to look at and things you can do I enjoy location

Yelp
Support your local bookstore. Staff was helpful and friendly; Tajmar was the cashier that helped me. Other staff members 3 different ones when i was there was asking if i needed help. Good selections of books. They have the 2024 planners out, journals, and lots of gifts options for birthdays, thank you gift, kids, new moms, etcs

Yelp
Recently rediscovered my love for tangible books and have been going to this particular bookstore because of its proximity to another errand that I go to weekly. It's a bit heartbreaking to know that this particular B&N has seen better days, but the lack of foot traffic is by no means any fault of their own. Clean, well organized, and the staff are absolutely lovely and very helpful! Always a good selection, and absolutely impressed with their huge wall of manga (if my younger self knew, she would've been ecstatic!). I know the company as a whole still has a long way in their efforts to compete with bigger online giants, but I hope this branch will eventually have a "what the locals are reading" section/table!

Yelp
Coffee and books is my favorite past time. Browsing the new books as well as clearance books (especially the classics). This location has plenty of parking and things are well maintained. The service is typical for Barnes and Noble. Staff are usually very helpful. I'm glad places like this are still around!

Yelp
Shout out to Gianna today. She was super helpful in helping me find an elusive item. Her energy and supportiveness was was unmatched. I'm so grateful she was working today, and was available to assist.

Jane S.

Yelp
Rude short fat girl serving coffee told me when I didn't hear the first time and she had to repeat she said "AS I TOLD YOU ITS OVER THERE". This was afternoon of May 17. And.... She made it a point to write the low balance remaining on my printed copy of gift card. It was not necessary. In a prior visit this same rude fat girl gave me warm coffee and said that's how it is when I said it was not hot. She is a phony person who is loudly polite to certain customers only whom she deems worthy to be polite to. So sad.
google avatar

Keit K.

Yelp
Some of the employees are back dooring limited supply of collectible cards. Very infuriating that I traveled so far only to walk away empty handed. Glad this mall is shutting down along with all of these unscrupulous employees. They need to put customers first and not make it a free for all favoring employees.
google avatar

Stuti V.

Yelp
Well this review is for the cafe inside.. There is only 1 person working but he is fast, polite and is doing a great job. I like bookstores which have cafe in but due to covid haven't been to one since so long. There is good sitting and it's very less crowded in afternoons. They also keep cheesecake factory's cheesecakes which is great as there is no Cheesecake Factory in San Bruno. The cafe serves Starbucks drinks but they do not accept Starbucks gift card which was little surprising.
google avatar

Connie L.

Yelp
There's a Starbucks at this BN location, and I got a grande latte - $4.25 with tax. I don't think there's anymore social distance enforcement as there's no stickers on the floor and no one is really 6 ft apart from each other. However, there's still a plexi glass between the cashier and customers. There are tables inside the store to enjoy coffee and reading. Tables are about 6 ft parts from each other. Staffs still wear masks. I don't feel the welcoming vibes at this location compared to other locations. Overall experience is okay.
google avatar

Nhie N.

Yelp
The staff is very nice, I like the place there. Shout out to Gabriel, he very supportive and helping me finding this Shf Deadpool when I could't see on the shelves, he start looking from the back and got this for me, 10/10

Maria B.

Yelp
I've been to this location multiple times & it just makes me feel safe and calm. I love this b&n or i just love b&n in general but i wish some books weren't $17-20. But that isn't there fault it's inflation. Always go here on my day off & friday just because i enjoy the peace. Also i wish they were more organized with the shelves other than that I love it here
google avatar

Teresa C.

Yelp
My kids and I enjoy coming to this bookstore. Physically holding a book and browsing titles is not quite the same experience you get ordering online. They have Halloween themed books on display now. Staff are always friendly and willing to help locate books. I am going to miss this location when they decide to close it.
google avatar

Kenny C.

Yelp
Eileen is always kind, patient & professional when I come in. Thank you! for being so patient with me. Funko Pop collectors are very picky in Box Condition & she was nice enough to show me 8-10 before I made my choice. (Friday, October 4, 2019)

Yelp
I like this Barnes & Noble. It has a lot of books and gifts, especially around the holiday season. They also have a cafe upstairs as well. Their book selection seems to be well curated. If you sign up for their membership it's only like $25/year or something like that. Sometimes they run promotions where you get 1 free drink every month if you sign up. I did that and thought it was well worth the $25/year fee. It's 10% off everything plus you get more coupons in the email so you can see the savings stack.

Yelp
If you are black or Mexican steer clear of this place. There is a lot of profiling of color people. This is not the first time this has happened but it is my first time leaving a review. Today I walked in the store to get to the mall area. I seen they had a $5 sale on animal books, my nephew love dinosaurs and also have an up coming birthday. I stopped grab 3 hard cover books ( remember these are kids books so their books are a lot bigger and wider then out adults hard cover books) and made my way to the cashier station. I got to the register to check out and was helped by Julianne D. After she rings me up I ask can I have a bag, she responds " we're out of bags sorry" I say okay but strange. Now if you been inside this book store you know the inside leads into the mall area right next to the cashier station, as I was walking out I happen to glance behind the counter and long and be hold there's hella bags back there. Okay whatever. I head out to pick up my order at another store. I got my ordered and I headed back in the direction I came, as I get back to the book store entrance I see two ppl walking out with bags (asain) I walk into the store and the person at the counter is being handed his (white male) items "in a bag". So I'm like okay clearly since I'm black I can't have a bag, because I'm likely to steal I guess. Julianne D was not the cashier, she might have went to lunch, had she been at the register, she would have got a great talk about racial profiling. Based on the area, there aren't that many black ppl who visit that damn store and so what if there is. A lot of theft in society is not caused by black ppl, that's the crazy part. Any way I know it's just a "bag" but it's the principle behind it. Definitely won't be going back or walking through that store again.

Yelp
This location has always been great. It certainly is one of the smaller branches, however, nowadays it's still much better than at least the Hillsdale location which is twice the size. I appreciate that they've kept the same old layout in comparison to the Hillsdale location's which since COVID changed for the worse. Also I know that I can actually find the authors in the correct alphabetical order again better than Hillsdale (confusing and not in much discernable order now). Plus they still have a fair magazine section including some international ones. Their travel magazine section does need to be better which it used to be pre-COVID.
google avatar

Sandy K.

Yelp
I really like this Barnes & Noble location because it's usually pretty calm and you can browse around in peace. The mall can be pretty busy but the bookstore is actually kind of relaxing. They have a little cafe that sells Starbucks coffee and other pastries/food. I also really like how there are two levels to this Barnes & Noble. The children's section is downstairs (really cute area) and the fiction/young adult area is upstairs. The store is pretty clean and organized, but I think a few more outlets would be helpful because there were only a few and they were all being used up by people on their laptops. Other than that, I really like coming here!
google avatar

Rebekah T.

Yelp
Bookstores still exist? Thank goodness. I was pretty sure that if you wanted to read anything these days you needed to go online and buy something through amazon. That sucks for those of us who like to browse. I still like to wander the stacks of books. Stare at the cookbooks until I'm inspired to make something new and check out the best sellers. I have more cookbooks than I will ever use, but I still like checking them out. I like this Barnes and Noble because they have more than the average bookstore. I found a Lego Architecture Set featuring Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water. You are never too old for LEGOS. I want it!
google avatar

Fanuaea L.

Yelp
My favorite book store chain; the staff is always helpful and accomodating. I have a membership and use it frequently. The little cafe tends to be quiet and they have couches down stairs to read leisurely. They also close at 9 pm which works for me when I am studying, killing time, or just enjoying a book before I commit to buying.
google avatar

Jazzzy J.

Yelp
The hubby and I came in looking for some books and a couple of personal things like pens and notebooks. At check out, the lady was rude and didn't honor our teacher discount. We've been to this location many times and were always turned off by the poor level of customer service.
google avatar

Laurie S.

Yelp
This is a great location! The store was super clean and well organized! The staff was very friendly and took care of customers very quickly! I have been a BN member for a long time. My membership will expire soon. The first cashier asked me if I wanted to renew and I said I would do it later. Then my daughter found something else and we got another cashier, this one was a little more aggressive about renewal (which annoys me...when I say not right now, I mean not right now), but I still love this location!
google avatar

Paulo F.

Yelp
I enjoy coming this book store to find some books in my Amazon cart. Unfortunately tho, they don't price match Amazon. However their selection is huge
google avatar

Matthew A.

Yelp
This is a small Barnes and Nobles in comparison to the Barnes and Nobles in San Mateo, I've only heard from trusted people that the selections and the spacious accommodations is greater when compared to this Barnes and Nobles. I must say, in my life I have learned to want more when you have much will leave you always unhappy. The Barnes and Nobles at Tanofran Mall is adequate and right next to a B.J.'s. Oh yeah, happy hour during study time and Starbucks coffee. Or if you're looking for music, interesting novelties, or movies, they have the department for these items available for your shopping needs. Yes they have a Starbucks complete with seating close to the delicious array and display case of their plentiful pastries and sandwiches, and if you're thirsty, they even carry the special holiday syrups and condiments for all you Starbucks fanatics, unfortunately, we're unable to use our Starbucks Franchise Membership Cards, but who cares! There's also two floors which separate the sections and plenty of register to minimize the wait time. This place may be anal in comparison, but great things come in small packages!!!
google avatar

Mahmoud A.

Yelp
This is a 5 for sure has everything been priced (with a price tag/label) ! Staff very respectful and easy going! A bunch of books to choose from! Big discounts I guess! I'm seeing on Yelp that they have collectibles as well. Great clean and neat store! I have been going here for Decades! I usually go by topics that interest me. The genre labeled on the walls, to make it easier to find what you're looking for! I recommend you to visit our local book store! They have a Starbucks in there as well, kind of low key!

Alan L.

Yelp
Danielle is the SWEETEST cashier ever. She has such great taste in books and music and definitely reccomended a few titles that I will be coming back in for next time!

Michael T.

Yelp
Wow, sort of felt like traveling back in time stepping into Barnes & Noble. I think the last time I did so was in the early 2000's. Maybe because of the nostalgia, I am already biased. I was immediately drawn to their magazine section. The variety of topics they carry is crazy! I had to grab a few. The store has an overall peaceful environment -- great for browsing. Employees were very friendly. Although my visit today wasn't planned, I had to grab a couple books in addition to the magazines. I saw a few more, so I will definitely be back for more. I've tried using e-books, but there's a particular charm to holding and owning a physical book.

Yelp
Hello! so i have gone here for many years and had no problems with the store, they are also one of the only stores in the bay area with kpop albums! ( that i know of) usually customer service takes a while but thats the only issue.

Jaycee G.

Yelp
I have asked the store if they can order a book for me online and told me they did, but unfortunately this site does not reach out to their customers if it was cancelled or if it is ready for pick up. I had to order a second time after calling them to ask about the order. It's been a few weeks and no one has called or emailed. Very disappointed.

Yelp
I've been going here for at least 5 years until now but I haven't seen any improvements on these 2 things: (1) Clean bathroom and (2) super slow internet connection. The bathroom, I understand cuz they might be short staff or busy but for the internet on this kind of business?.. it feels like I'm back to 56K modem exempt its 2018. However, the place is organised and the workers are friendly & helpful.
google avatar

Aqua R.

Yelp
Really nice B&N with huge selection. It has one of the bigger science fiction sections I found which I really liked and it's close to the airport so it's nice to stop by and pick up some books for flights.
google avatar

Lizzie G.

Yelp
This is the second Barnes and Nobles I been to this is huge it had an upstairs downstairs huge collection. little story time it was so cute all the little books that have like a little pretend forest chairs little benches didn't take pictures of that part. they have books for everyone everything you could think of it is even a Starbucks, so if you get hungry thirsty snack you could get something.
google avatar

Learnee L.

Yelp
I like bookstores... esp the ones with cafe in it. I can sit, find me a book I'm interested in, get me coffee, read the book and decide if I'm buying it or not. Unfortunately, there are only few bookstores that are open nowadays so I try to patronize them. Ive been to this mall area bunch of times but this was the 1st time I went to the bookstore. the bookstore itself is neat, clean, pretty big. It seemed to have a lot of the teen books but it doesn't quite bother me. service was pretty good too although I only see 2 employees the whole 2 hours I was there. then there's the cafe. few seats around it and they're pretty occupied by students and older people. but the tables are sticky, chairs are everywhere, floors are wet and dirty. it's disgusting. it's probably the grossest and dirtiest cafe Ive ever seen.

Yelp
I love to read. I love to read books the old fashioned way, where I have to turn the pages and can bend the corners to save my spot. I love to hang out in bookstores that make it comfortable for patrons to hang out. When I'm a bit stressed or just need to kill some time, I find myself heading to the nearest bookstore. More often than not, I do not leave empty handed. I know I can get better prices online, but there's something about a bookstore that makes me want to read that book NOW, not two or three days from now. Whether I want to imagine myself hiking in the Himalayas, whipping up a 10 course feast or attending the latest society function with the Vanderbilts, I tell myself that nothing is impossible, at least while I'm flipping through these books. As the big chain book stores are disappearing, I have found niche and neighborhood bookstores to patronize that are closer to home, but there is nothing like a mega store for browsing through a wide variety of subjects, picking up a cup of coffee, and having a place to sit and read without feeling as if you are in someones way or blocking the aisle. Their membership program is a great deal for those that buy a lot of books. This store is always clean and neat, there is a lot of space to move around, the staff is helpful and friendly and I like their inventory of books where 95% of the time I am able to find what I need.

Yelp
2 stories (haha, "stories", get it :) ?) of Books, movies, CDs, calendars, stationary, gifts, magazines Came here to study and do homework at the Starbucks in here. I actually got a lot of work done here, good place to concentrate and get away from home where there's so many distractions like my comfortable bed where I can sleep instead of work :). Came around 3pm on a Saturday, no tables were free. My friends and I waited for 10 min., then found a table. We settled in, bought a drink and baked goods. There's a few power outlets along the walls where there's tables too. The table was a bit small for the 3 of us to do work (the big tables were taken). It's a normal Starbucks with all regular items on the menu and regular pastries, relaxing voice singing to jazz music in the background. I bought a Cheesecake Factory Red Velvet Cupcake - $2.25. This one is smaller than the Cheesecake Factory vanilla & chocolate cupcakes that are also $2.25. The cream cheese buttercream was too thick, sweet and a bit too heavy for me.
