Went for a weekend break as a couple and the location is beautiful. The building and grounds are very nice, the room we had was great and the service was top notch. The staff for dinner and breakfast were friendly, helpful and highly accommodating and the food was fantastic. We had the lamb for mains which I couldn't recommend enough, good portions and tasted amazing

Barnett Hill, designed by Arnold Mitchell in the early 1900s, is a beautiful and distinctive building. This was our third stay, and we always enjoy the fabulous detail of the panelling and plasterwork. Even the drainpipes are fetching!||Sadly, we won't be going back there, though. The service had deteriorated dramatically since previous visits, and the hotel now no longer represents any kind of value for money. There were no bathrobes in our room, and there only seemed to be one in the building when we asked (straight out of the washing machine; we had to dry it on a radiator). Dinner was OK, though uninspiring, but breakfast was a full-on disaster. They have changed the usual cook-to-order breakfast model that you expect in a hotel at this price point to a buffet model—and not even a well-done buffet, at that. The selection of food was poor and the execution just dreadful: inedible scrambled eggs in a serving canister that was broken and 'mended' with clingfilm; no hot water for people to make their own tea... I could go on. Service (in so much as there was any) was weird and unpleasant as well—verging on the 'Fawlty Towers', as I noticed someone else said in a recent review. The management seem completely in denial about how bad things have got, so I can't imagine things will be getting better any time soon. ||Such a shame! A building as lovely as this deserves far better. Our experience was all the more surprising in that Barnett Hill is part of the Alexander House group, whose hotels I have always found highly professional—even sleek—in their offering. If they allow Barnett Hill to continue to operate in this chaotic manner, they will jeopardise the reputation of the whole group.

Stunning location & dog friendly||We have stayed before & came back for Xmas so that we could visit family locally. Hotel is in a stunning location, friendly helpful staff & we chose it over other local hotels because it’s dog friendly. Dog bed, bowls, dog treats in room, lovely grounds to walk in. Dog poo bin available. Dogs come with you to eat breakfast in the bar. Food was nicely cooked, decent cup of tea. I also pre-booked a spa treatment which was very relaxing. Good size car park, comfortable bed & good shower room. Rooms are serviced daily. |We had to keep bedroom window closed as local ladybirds 🐞 took a fancy to coming in.|Would go again & would recommend.|Just be prepared for single track road & passing places on the approach from main road & drive slowly.

I have had numerous massages at various hotels in the past. The massage by Lisa is the best I have ever had. She has a unique technique using hot stones which leaves you feeling great. I thoroughly recommend her. She deserves 5 stars but unfortunatly the hotel does not. I am taking the unusual step of writing a separate review of the hotel

I finally got round to using my treatment voucher yesterday and had a « best of both » treatment with Lisa. It was AMAZING! I have a massage every couple of weeks and this was one of the best I have ever had. I live in Wimbledon so wouldn’t normally travel nearly an hour for a massage but I will definitely be back for this experience!!!||Claire

I just had one of the best massages I've ever had. ||Lisa was fantastic and tailored the massage to my problem areas. No other massage has been as good or left me feeling as relaxed and comfortable.||We initially booked our stay thinking it was a spa hotel with additional facilities (jacuzzi/pool etc.) it would be a great addition to the treatments, especially as the hotel and grounds are lovely too. ||Will definitely plan to return in the future.

Lovely character hotel with excellent food, great staff in beautiful grounds and area of the country. Stayed for an early valentines 2 nights, as I am abroad at valentines. Intended to eat in the hotel night 1 and go into Guildford night 2, however the restaurant food was so good we ate in both nights.

My daughter and spent two nights at Barnett Hill.|The best things about the hotel: all the staff, including the waitstaff at breakfast and dinner were very friendly and accommodating. The room was large, comfortable and perfectly clean, and Lisa, who gave me a massage with hot rocks was fantastic. I felt as if my body had crossed a bridge to a better place as she worked on me.|Less good things: the bed pillows were hard and overstuffed, making it difficult to sleep. The breakfast coffee on the buffet was awful (I asked for a cappuccino which was better, but it wasn’t hot), and the dining room food was ok, but not great. Generally a good stay, but I suggest offering better food and both hard and soft pillows, so all the guests can sleep.
