Glamping by the Sea Is the Ultimate Hebrides Adventure in Scotland

"A whitewashed farmhouse on Jura where George Orwell, as one of the island’s only residents and grieving the death of his wife, completed Nineteen Eighty‑Four; he later described the island as “un‑get‑at‑able.” The setting’s remoteness — bleak weather, surf, and thin, wind‑blown landscapes — is central to its aura, and its history is threaded through the sea‑stories and legends of the surrounding straits (Orwell and his son once lost their boat in the Corryvreckan and had to swim ashore)." - Leslie Jamison

It's a four mile walk to get here but worth the effort, and then another three to the Gulf of Corryvreckan.

A nice little walk and a beautiful view.

Rented home of George Orwell. 1946 until 1949. Here he finished his book 1984 short before his death. What a stunning place to live and write. You can feel the atmosphere of this place in the pages of his - still so relevant - book 📚

This place is stunningly remote and quite ungettable-at-able to.

Barnhill is NOT open for visitors so don't even go on the property as it is private. This is where George Orwell completed 1984.

Beautiful spot but if coming please be aware this is a family home and when not used by them is a rental holiday house and not a public site.
