Barō

When you mention the word "bread" in Canggu, Baro is the name that immediately comes to mind. You can taste the difference between a loaf made to meet a quota and one made with intention. Mass-produced bread often tastes hollow. But at Baro, the bread tastes dense with purpose. It tastes like someone woke up at 4:00 AM not out of obligation, but out of an obsession to get the hydration of the dough exactly right. Cheryl pointed it out immediately, the ingredients are undeniably premium. There is a quiet luxury to the texture that you just can't fake. And a personal rule of mine: if you go to Baro and you don't get the focaccia, I’m not sure you’ve actually been to Baro. It was easily my favorite purchase of the day. As for the ambience, I really appreciate how the bakery is layered behind the lush greenery they’ve planted out front. It creates a pocket of freshness and a peaceful filter over the usual hectic energy of Canggu.

There is an artisan bakery located near Pantai Pererenan in Canggu. Guests are required to park at Pantai, which can be a bit challenging, particularly during rainy weather or when accompanied by an infant. They are known for their sourdough bread, though in the evenings, they switch menu and offer pizza. I had the opportunity to try their special weekend menu, the Chai bomboloni. The filling was generous and the texture was delightfully soft and chewy, however I prefer a slightly crispier exterior. While the chai flavor wasn't personally to my taste, my wife thoroughly enjoyed it. The Cardamom Roll, however, was a bit too dry for my preference. Regarding the cappuccino, they use beans from Ruster. It has an intense flavor profile, with a slightly less bitter note compared to Pison. The Hojicha was also quite good, and I found both beverages enjoyable. Regrettably, I may not have experienced their highly recommended offerings, especially after reviewing the feedback on Google.

I’ve been here a few times now and absolutely love it (besides the current noise from the construction 😉). The cardamom bun is one of my favorites, I’ve already had it several times. The coffee is always on point and the staff is really sweet and welcoming. Such a lovely place

We had the chicken focaccia, watermelon salad, & some pastries to go - the food was outstanding, so delicious (a really broad menu for a bakery). The staff were fun & friendly, & the music & atmosphere so fun! Highly recommend!

There’s a wide variety of baked goods and the service is excellent. Both the staff and the bakers were friendly and cheerful, and the food was really great — the quality of the bread was outstanding. I was very satisfied and it’s definitely worth coming back! There are also some lovely outdoor tables and a smoking area, which makes it a great spot to enjoy pizza in the evening.

First time ordering! I just ordered from Baro Bakery, and it did not disappoint! I got the whole pan of sweet potato brioche and a sausage roll, and everything was absolutely amazing. The flavors were rich, the texture was perfect, and you can tell they put real care into their baking. My order arrived cold, but that wasn’t an issue—I just warmed it up, and it was just as delicious. Definitely ordering again. Loved it!

Tried some of their pastry and bakery, my fave were the lemon pastry and chocolate cookies. Will try more menus next time! Especially the pizza!! They only sell in in specific hours. Very good ambience and dog allowed too❤️

To be honest, it’s a bit overrated. As a local, I’ve seen many friends from Jakarta rave about it, but honestly, there are plenty of other bakeries and cafés that are much better. The breads are actually good, but the other dishes like the pies and ham bread are underwhelming. Almost everything comes with some kind of sauce, but the flavor just doesn’t hit the mark. We ordered the ham bread and it came out too burnt and hard. So yes, their bread is worth a try, but for the rest of the menu… I’ll pass.
