On the Grid : Baron Hats

"Legendary hat makers are a rare breed in the 21st century. Few master craftsmen are left to pass down the art of hat making to eager apprentices, but at Baron Hats you can have a hat made by skilled master craftsmen, on century old machines. Mark Mejia is the second owner of Baron Hats, apprenticing and purchasing the business from the legendary Eddy Baron who topped the heads of half a centuries worth of movie stars and musicians. This hatter and his museum of iconic hats is an incredible story. Beyond the hat making, Baron hats can restore, resize or repair grandpa's old fedora. Everyone is welcome at Baron Hats - Hollywood's hat maker of choice." - Jennifer Beatty

Visited their new location in Downtown LA and I love their set up! There's a waiting room in front of the elevator entrance and a walk-around display area for their hats. They're still moving their inventory from the other location, so there will be more to see in a couple of weeks! The service is excellent and the staff are very knowledgeable. I brought my western hat to get the brim reblocked after a TSA employee (In HOUSTON!) forced my hat (brim-side-down) into a small space of the security bin and bent my brim out of shape. Can't wait to get my hat restored by Baron Hats. Thank you for your hospitality and service!

I absolutely give five stars to Baron hats Inc, from the wonderful customer service of Sonia, to the hatmaker Mark (who actually called and spoke to me on the phone which I would recommend up front if you're wanting something special or specific) All the way to the excellent packing and shipping. Yes they are a little on the expensive side and it does take some time, but you're getting something for the money and patience, perfection! Absolutely glad I went with these folks!

Admittedly, the new location downtown is a little more of pain to get to than the former Burbank one, but the setup is nicer and they seem to have a bigger and better workshop. Awesome staff, they have always been very friendly and will show behind the scenes if you ask. I came in with a design, we worked out the logistics, and they made it exactly to spec. Great hats with lifetime service. If you want a seriously good custom hat, made bespoke and fitted to you, this is the place.

The cowboy hat that I have ordered is a piece of art. Mark took measurements and suggested a couple of alterations to the original hat in order to fit my head and body shapes. His suggestions were spot-on. Even though I have not had further meetings with Mark for fitting and adjustments, the hat fit perfectly right out of the box when it arrived within the promised time interval. Both the quality of the materials and the craftsmanship are exceptional. Throughout the entire process, I have been in communication with Sonia. She was quick to respond, competent, and always patient. Now I cannot imagine ordering my hats from anyone else.

This person has no integrity. He cheated me and will not make good on it. I saved for four years to buy the incredibly expensive hat from Baron hats. I LOVED the Aunt Fran hat from Practical Magic and when I finally saved $700 I went in, they measured my head and it was supposed to be made FOR me. I was living on the east coast so when it was ready, my then boyfriend/now husband picked it up for me. 1. It never fit - it was too small from the beginning. 2. It was the wrong hat - it wasn’t the hat from the movie. 3. The third time I wore it, it started to fray. I couldn’t get back to them for awhile because of where I lived, and when I called, the woman who answered told me there was a “cheaper” version of the hat, and a more expensive version. Turns out I paid for the expensive version but he gave me the CHEAPER version that was obviously not even mine - it didn’t fit! I’ve been trying respectfully to get him to make it right for three years and he still hasn’t. He is not a good or fair person. He doesn’t care about anyone except his movie star clients. Shame on you!

They're are amazing. They follow your order from beginning to end and keep in contact with you through the whole process. That hats are made to be comfortable and flattering. The staff is so nice and Mark is so great. He's a real artist with hats. They have a huge selection of hats and if nothing else its worth going to see their beautiful displays and hall of fame.
