On the Grid : Barrio Alameda

"When a city is nearly 500 years old, a lot of changes will inevitably happen and Barrio Alameda was hasn't been the exception. The building of Barrio Alameda was born in the 1920s and was the home of many doctors, lawyers, journalists and other professionals. Yet throughout the years and the earthquake of 1985, Barrio Alameda was badly affected and deteriorated. In recent years the newly restored building has new tenants and new stories to tell. Including those of Cancino Alameda and Chaya BnB. The building also has one of the best views of the Alameda Central Garden." - Bryant Castro & Abel Coss from Open Late

"Originally laid out during Spanish rule, the Alameda Central was Mexico City’s first municipal park, at one time reserved for the elite. Today it’s a well-manicured garden for all, especially popular with working-class crowds on Sundays. Its willow-lined lanes lead to old-fashioned statuary, fountains, and a gazebo (where something’s always going on), as well as a rotating calendar of contemporary sculpture exhibitions. On the park’s western edge and occupying a beautifully restored art deco structure, the shopping and design center known as Barrio Alameda houses edgy boutiques, a chic guesthouse, and trendy restaurants whose outdoor seating is a people-watcher’s delight. Duck in for a glimpse of how the city center continues along its gentrifying course."

Lovely mall full of local stores and restaurants. Tucktaway with a nice calm vibe. Definitely a great spot to stop after you’ve traipsed all about the city center.

Nice place with too many options of different stores, usually contemporary Mexican design things. For me, the best it the food area. The restaurants and the place itself create a very cool atmosphere to share with friends since a beer to a whole meal or even a fun night.

ATM Bitcoin located on 2nd floor it is exposed to the view of everybody not a safe place to put an ATM Bitcoin. I won't recommend it unless the ATM owner put it in an enclosed area. Besides this issue the entire building looks amazing and the restaurants and the food offer by the vendors is good.

From being an old, creepy hotel, this place has been transformed into a small Mall but with Mexican style shops where one can have a drink, a snack, a tattoo or even take photography lessons. On top of the building there's a bar with a nice view of the Alameda Central. It's worth paying a visit!!

Yelp
Barrio Alameda is a very cool restored 1920s building with several shops, restaurants, and bars inside! We wandered in because I wanted to try an afternoon mezcal cocktail from Mundana after exploring the area for a day, and it was great. We had our cocktails and then wandered into a few stores - lots of cool places to check out. The building was beautifully restored - definitely a cool sight. And there are bathrooms - you just need the code from someone at one of the shops, restaurants, or bars! Definitely a cool place to spend some time if you're in the area! Kind of a quiet, cool (a little bit hidden) oasis just off the very busy Alameda Central!

Yelp
This place was extremely cute to walk into. The door man explained to me it was done after a European concept of small boutiques and shops. Place is very elegant. Very clean and so many shops to buy from, drinks and food are served here as well. Walked the first floor only and it was a nice vibe. There are three floors in total. Plenty of shopping.
