My usual accommodation was full, it was raining, and the Rotary meeting was at the Barthos Hotel; so I elected to stay for one night before more meetings the following day and heading back to Kigali. The hotel is out of town, bordering the University of Rwanda Butare campus; so there are plenty of students hanging around, and the hotel is a regular stop on all of the bus lines, but the hotel does front the highway to Burundi; so traffic is heavy and noisy if your room is at the front. I chose to go one floor higher up to be on the back side of the hotel, and the room was very quiet. ||||Rooms are large, bed was OK, pillows were OK, but the power went out sometime during the night (it was raining!), and there was no power the following morning; so I can't report on whether the water pressure or temperature were any good. The rate was a very reasonable 15,000 RWF including breakfast, and breakfast for my driver was 3,000 RWF.||||The building is constructed of concrete blocks.||||Service at breakfast was the most efficient I've seen in a while in Rwanda, good was good, tea was good, and most of the staff understood enough English to get by. ||||No elevator.||||Bar had plenty of customers until at least 8 PM when I left to have dinner at Hotel Mont Huye.
