Bartolomeu Dias Museum Complex

We visited the Bartolomeu Dias Museum in Mossel Bay and really enjoyed it. The grounds are spacious and beautifully maintained, and the exhibits are well presented. We especially loved the shell museum and the life-size replica of Dias’s caravel — both are fascinating and worth seeing. The museum offers a great mix of history and natural beauty, and it’s easy to spend a few relaxing hours exploring. The only small downside was that the ladies’ bathroom didn’t have toilet paper, but otherwise everything was excellent. Definitely worth a stop if you’re travelling the Garden Route — a well-run and interesting museum with lots to see and learn.

I love to recommend this museum to anybody visiting Mossel Bay. I enjoyed the aquarium and shell exhibit. Some of the exhibit need some upgrading, however, it is neat and I believe the people there are doing well.

It's a very enjoyable and informative outing, we've never visited the shell museum before, it was quite interesting. It can be found right next to the Diaz museum.

It was fantastic. Loved the curio shop. The history and the well maintained Aquarium. Overall a wonderful experience after many years. Kids also loved it.

It would have been nicer with better signs or a guide. Otherwise it was a great experience.

The Diaz Museum is situated at Mossel Bay, great collection and very rich in history. If you like the history, this is place you must visit.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this museum. From the outside, it looks quite unassuming, but there’s so much more than meets the eye. Inside, everything is neat, well-maintained, and thoughtfully presented. The maritime museum is packed with fascinating information, and the shell museum was an unexpected highlight—with a fun mix of aquarium exhibits and display cases showcasing an incredible variety of shells. A great experience overall!
